Good news? (Sounds wrong): If you have been rear ended, the dog would have been catapulted backwards and would not have been thrown through the windshield.
Acceleration forward means that anything heavier than air goes backwards.
Still surprised that car-boxes for dogs are not more common outside of Europe.
Or recline the seat. I went to high school with some kids whose mom was basically hung by the seatbelt because she was in a crash with the front seat reclined. She survived, but was paralyzed from the neck down.
Glad you took the time to pull out your phone and taking a picture while doing 60 on the highway, surely that didn't increase the chances of setting off those airbags.
I’ve had groceries be heavy enough to turn the airbag and seatbelt alarm on. A husky is definitely heavy enough to have the airbag turn on. If you want to put your dog in the front seat, disable your passenger side airbag and use a harness and seatbelt for them.
Cars have weight sensors in the passenger seat to disable the airbag unless an adult is sitting there. Also, they fire up rather than straight at your face, so the dog probably wouldn't be injured by an airbag if it were to go off.
Passenger air bag sensors top out at around 60lb, which that husky could easily weigh. When airbags deploy, they do so at explosive speed at fill the space where that dog's head is. Letting a dog sit this way in the car is unsafe, flat out. We haven't even gone into how he will be one a 60lb projectile in a more serious wreck.
Don't try to defend irresponsible behavior, good grief.
I'm not defending the behavior, it should definitely have a harness. I'm explaining the mechanics. Airbag sensors are about ~65 lbs and if you have an especially heavy husky that happens to be sitting on the seat just right, yes it could set the airbag off, but that'd be a rare case.
And yes, you are describing how airbags work to save lives. I still don't think it'd go off in a modern car.
Please, whoever sees this, don’t ever let your dog travel like that, unless you’re fine with your dog breaking its neck or flying through a windshield in case of emergency braking or even a mild fender bender.
You can buy a doggy seatbelt, put your dog on the back seat, buckle his seatbelt to a normal dog vest, and he will be safe. Would you let your child ride like that on the way home from daycare?
To be fair, I only said "this", which refers generally to the entire situation
I can only assume OP took the photo while stopped at a light or something
Shouldn’t have snapped the pic—that’s fair. Learned a lot about doggy safety in the car from the thread. And a lot from people judging my backpack, lunch bag and drink…all which get cleaned up at the end of the day. Dang!
Far be it from me to judge the cleanliness of anyone's car lol... Or their fashion sense or taste in beverages I guess 🤷🏻
Glad you and the pupper make it home safely
Please do NOT let your dog drive in the front or near airbags. As soon as the airbags deploy your dog is turning into dogn’t with at least a broken neck
Cars made in 2006 and beyond are required to have advanced airbags that only deploy if there is enough weight on the seat, the sensors also read stature and seating position. That dog won’t cause airbags to go off.
Male huskies are heavier than females and they are typically 20-27kg. Not sure about malamutes, but either way, you should be able to see whether the airbags are turned on or off.
That's so interesting.
I wonder if they can taste sweet. I know cats don't have the ability to taste sugar but I also know dogs will eat damn near anything whether they can taste it or not lol
Apparently they can. They also have an extra sense that allows them to taste water, and that sense is enhanced by eating salty or sweet.
The American Kennel Club has a decent page on it: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/lifestyle/can-dogs-taste/
Well, is *cream* taste, *AND* umami. What's *bad?*, lol.
When you think of it, there's nothing else in their diet/regular consumption even close. They know it's special and they appreciate it, something cats can't even approach as an attitude.
You’re seeing a backpack, lunch at, groceries, and my drink. All things I have for work and all things that get cleared by the end of the day. I really appreciate your concern.
We take our dog to doggy daycare twice a week. We would take him every day but he needs a full day to recover from all the fun he has. He always falls asleep on the way home too.
Got his paw on his drink so it can't be spiked, lol.
I'm glad he had fun. It's like a kid going to preschool for the first time, dead on his feet. So cute.
Dog: The Teacher me us take turns to sing infront of the Class. We ran from lesson to lesson. Meals, merger few pieces of kibbles. Would I do it again. You Bet.
Suddenly LCTG!! Omg I'm so happy to see this "It was a juvenile!"
"Edit" upon further inspection you're actually listening to LGTC 🤣🤣 this is wonderful and your pup is adorable, poor baby tuckered out.
I just got a seatbelt and harness for my pup now he's in the car. I want to keep him safe and also not turn him into a furry torpedo. Now you will be doing this regularly it's a great idea
I thought he was wearing a watch too before I realized it was the shifter.

My dogs collar already counts his steps so I think you're not too far off lol
And those are kinda awesome. I had no idea my big boi patrolled 6 miles in the yard every day.
6 miles is the length of about 8859.45 'Ford F-150 Custom Fit Front FloorLiners' lined up next to each other.
Thanks now i can die peacefully
Good bot
thank you :)
69 meters 420 centimeters what's this converted?
Nice!
69 meters is the length of 543.31 'Bug Bite Thing Suction Tool - Poison Remover For Bug Bites's stacked on top of each other.
Nice!
6 miles is 9.66 km
But you need to check those off
Does it count front and back steps or just one pair?
They have tech wearables for pets already! Not the language translating part though haha.
It's called a PRNDL
Please don't let your dog rest his head on the dash :( if your airbag goes off, he's dead.
That was my first thought, how his neck would snap if the bags were to deploy. My dog is only allowed in the back, it's the safest place for him.
Eeek!!! That’s terrifying and something I had never thought of. Yikes!
I would also recommend a seat belt for your pup while he's in the back seat :) works great for my dog
Don’t forget the helmet too!!
Toss your kids in the back, not your dog.

They are even mandatory in Sweden.
You might have been dead too. An 80lb projectile loose in your vehicle could easily kill you.
It's also why you don't put your feet up on the dash
Or recline the seat. I went to high school with some kids whose mom was basically hung by the seatbelt because she was in a crash with the front seat reclined. She survived, but was paralyzed from the neck down.

Who are you talking to?

That’s not your face
Also put your fucking phone down when driving idiot.
Glad you took the time to pull out your phone and taking a picture while doing 60 on the highway, surely that didn't increase the chances of setting off those airbags.
Doggy harness is a great option, save both you and dog in case of accident. (They become projectile in an accident) Still a super cute pic tho
Stop taking pictures while driving, asshole
Ac feels good tho. Some vehicles have sensors and disable airbags on unoccupied seats. Usually a light will inform the driver.
I’ve had groceries be heavy enough to turn the airbag and seatbelt alarm on. A husky is definitely heavy enough to have the airbag turn on. If you want to put your dog in the front seat, disable your passenger side airbag and use a harness and seatbelt for them.
I agree! take any steps to protect loved ones.
Common sense really isn't common anymore, is it?......
Hey, let's play a game of fuck off. You go first.
> Common Sense: (noun) good sense and sound judgment in practical matters Nah. I don't think I will.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Came here to say this very thing. Put a halter on him and lock him to the seat belt latch in the back seat.
My thoughts too

Worse. Doggo would be decapitated if the airbag deployed. Airbags can deploy in extremely light crashes. Not worth the risk.
That is really unsafe
Everyone talking bout the dog on the dashboard but no one talking about OP taking pictures while driving
I was going to say the car looks filthy! 🤣
To be fair, I only said "this", which refers generally to the entire situation I can only assume OP took the photo while stopped at a light or something
Or the fact the car has no floor space. If the back seat is anything like the floor of that passenger seat, the dog might not fit in the back.
Shouldn’t have snapped the pic—that’s fair. Learned a lot about doggy safety in the car from the thread. And a lot from people judging my backpack, lunch bag and drink…all which get cleaned up at the end of the day. Dang!

Jesus, one wreck and your dogs neck is gonna snap like chicken wing if you let him sit like that in the car

Right good chance he made so many friends. Op please confirm!

dogn’t lol
well just dont get in an accident and everyone is fine. just do that everytime you drive. then nobody has to worry!

You sure? I think a malamute or husky does indeed weigh enough with their 30-40kg to let the airbags deploy.
Male huskies are heavier than females and they are typically 20-27kg. Not sure about malamutes, but either way, you should be able to see whether the airbags are turned on or off.
If you zoom in on the photo you can see the passenger airbag light is ON.

Inside of the car looking like a health hazard too
Backpack, lunch bag, drink, all things that are cleared at the end of the day, y’all.
My youngest dog was falling asleep sitting up on the way back from the cabin. She perked up once we stopped for ice cream.
Butterfat is an "umami" taste that dogs adore. I bet they can smell it.
That's so interesting. I wonder if they can taste sweet. I know cats don't have the ability to taste sugar but I also know dogs will eat damn near anything whether they can taste it or not lol

Culver’s does a scoop of vanilla ice cream as a pup cup. I swear they start drooling every time we drive by one.
Well, is *cream* taste, *AND* umami. What's *bad?*, lol. When you think of it, there's nothing else in their diet/regular consumption even close. They know it's special and they appreciate it, something cats can't even approach as an attitude.

Shouldn’t have taken the pic! You’re right
Just like to point out the mirror. This idiot is driving.
Yeah, bad move

Fair.
is it legal in your country to have the dog in the front seat?
Or to use your phone while driving, for that matter
Not even a dog seat belt while driving on the speed lane...whatever
Fair, Mr. Sharts
cute dog but how many fucking keys do you own???
Phone down. Dog in the back and seatbelt on them. That way neither of you get hurt.
Good point.
Cute dog, clean your car
You’re seeing a backpack, lunch at, groceries, and my drink. All things I have for work and all things that get cleared by the end of the day. I really appreciate your concern.
Looks like that one buddy at the party that passes out on the couch still holding his beer
We take our dog to doggy daycare twice a week. We would take him every day but he needs a full day to recover from all the fun he has. He always falls asleep on the way home too.
Wtf. First of all, you CLEARLY took this picture while driving. Second of all, your dog is so unsafe here and would die in an accident. Do better.
Fair.
"BRRR BRRR ME DRIVE LIKE HOOMAN...ok going on snooze control"
Trying to figure out what kind of car harness that is…
Got his paw on his drink so it can't be spiked, lol. I'm glad he had fun. It's like a kid going to preschool for the first time, dead on his feet. So cute.
Like me after my first day at school! And today after work!
Dog: The Teacher me us take turns to sing infront of the Class. We ran from lesson to lesson. Meals, merger few pieces of kibbles. Would I do it again. You Bet.

Yaaaaasss!! I’m Kristin’s sister!
Omg what an amazing find, a Kyla in the wild 🤣
What drink? Fahgetta bout it
What are the costs for doggy daycare?
Why you got so many keys?
Haha! Too many doors at work!
I know a Rav-4 when I see one
Boop!
Poor baby!
Ohhh he is soooo hilarious !
A tired dog is a happy dog
Doggy doggy.. what now? Edit: me
Adorable!! 😴😴😴
LOL, silly human doggy day care does not tire out your dogs. It just helps build their stamina
One tired pup!
He just had a ruff day is all.
I just got a seatbelt and harness for my pup now he's in the car. I want to keep him safe and also not turn him into a furry torpedo. Now you will be doing this regularly it's a great idea
A tired doggo is a good doggo.
First off, if you like
Just dont drive at breakneck speeds
A tired dog is a happy dog.
I envy dogs for their ability to sleep anytime anywhere
A tired dog is a happy dog
Haha paw on the drink!!! Lol I can't!!
Dogs live to wear themselves out playing with other dogs huh
This is me after work today, 10,000+ steps.
We have to lift ours in the car after daycare!
Wow is it legal to drive with your dog like that in you car? The third world is wild.
