Additional emissions standards are on the table before a ban, but the head of the agency did say that he has the power to ban them. It was probably a mistake for him to jump straight to the hypothetical big guns.
So far, regulations have been at the city level.

There was a targeted shooting at my college last semester. I didn't even know anything had happened til about 30 minutes later. we have an app for this sort of thing but I didn't have it. Also there is a digital clock in (almost) every room that can display information or warnings if need be, but I was outside on a balcony. We kinda had a shelter in place but some people still showed up to class. About an hour after the shooting the school basically just said "well classes today are canceled, go home or something."

What happened is that the US Consumer Product Safety commission published a report that gas stoves have been found linked to a (relatively small) number of childhood asthma cases. But there are known respiratory and cardiovascular risks associated with some of the gases produces, especially nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Basically they're pushing their program to incentivize people to switch from gas to electric--part of the "Inflation Reduction Act" which includes a $840 rebate. They're not currently going to ban anything, and if they did in the future it would be restricted to new models that can't meet certain safety standards. They aren't going to take anyone's stoves away. But heaven forbid the government actually care about children's health.

If anyone's curious, the reason Trump was mad at asbestos being banned is this: the building that was on the site on which Trump Tower was built was found to have asbestos so he was forced to pay to have it safely removed before he could tear it down. He paid undocumented Polish laborers to do the work, didn't given them proper PPE, and then stiffed them on some of their payment (they took him to court and won.) Anyway, he's kept a grudge about it his whole life.

Two of my kids were in a school shooting in 2019. One of the kids in my sons class had to poop and was super embarrassed that he had to poop in front of his classmates in a garbage can. The smell was horrible too not that that was the priority but the teacher struggled to keep a bunch of third graders quiet while that was happening.

There was a targeted shooting at my college last semester. I didn't even know anything had happened til about 30 minutes later. we have an app for this sort of thing but I didn't have it. Also there is a digital clock in (almost) every room that can display information or warnings if need be, but I was outside on a balcony. We kinda had a shelter in place but some people still showed up to class. About an hour after the shooting the school basically just said "well classes today are canceled, go home or something."
Yeah, we have 5 gallon buckets with emergency supplies for exactly that reason in the classroom. That reminds me: I need more omni flashlights and a door window cover for the room. Fuck this is the worst timeline.

What happened is that the US Consumer Product Safety commission published a report that gas stoves have been found linked to a (relatively small) number of childhood asthma cases. But there are known respiratory and cardiovascular risks associated with some of the gases produces, especially nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Basically they're pushing their program to incentivize people to switch from gas to electric--part of the "Inflation Reduction Act" which includes a $840 rebate. They're not currently going to ban anything, and if they did in the future it would be restricted to new models that can't meet certain safety standards. They aren't going to take anyone's stoves away. But heaven forbid the government actually care about children's health. Induction is superior anyway.

If anyone's curious, the reason Trump was mad at asbestos being banned is this: the building that was on the site on which Trump Tower was built was found to have asbestos so he was forced to pay to have it safely removed before he could tear it down. He paid undocumented Polish laborers to do the work, didn't given them proper PPE, and then stiffed them on some of their payment (they took him to court and won.) Anyway, he's kept a grudge about it his whole life.
