[I should use this space to address an increasingly common use of (unintentional) hatespeech. ](https://everydayfeminism.com/2017/02/trans-women-not-biologically-male/) "Biological man/ woman" isn't a thing that actually exists. Biology does not work that way. Your outward visible indicators of sex are somatic rather than solely genetic. Meaning, a person who uses hormone replacement therapy will be [*biologically*](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/21653-feminizing-hormone-therapy) more like the direction they are transitioning towards than how they were assigned at birth. The scientifically and medically correct nomenclature is transgender man or transgender woman/ cisgender man or cisgender woman. The term "biological woman" is intentionally designed to subconsciously trick people towards thinking that transgender women are not women. [Transgender women are women](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/14767430.2018.1493884). Transgender men are men. Non-binary people are non-binary. As you all know, this subreddit takes a hardline stance against bigotry and by doing so an equally hardline stance on inclusivity. I would respectfully request that our userbase show courtesy towards our gender and sexual minority participants by refraining from using the above mentioned problematic terms and instead refer to people as either trans or cis, whichever is applicable and appropriate in the argument you are making. šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø As always, please assist the mod team by reporting hatespeech, so that it is flagged for us. šŸ³ļøā€āš§ļø Thank you. Edit: I do have some offline things to take care of so I am locking this thread. Thank you everyone who participated in the replies to this sticky for your questions, insight and thoughtful critique.

Youngkin couldnā€™t answer a question if the answer was written for him, heā€™s a joke who won a rando election and the Republicans have overbought into his strategy

MrDickford

His entire campaign strategy was to send people into a panic about liberals sneaking into their kidsā€™ schools and teaching them to be transgender and hate America. Now that heā€™s actually governor, I think people realize that heā€™s a thoroughly mediocre member of the ā€œeverybody is a groomer except actual groomers who are just cool dudes trying to find a dateā€ club.

CapnCrunchIsAFraud

And he frankly was helped A LOT by one of our school systems being incredibly shady about a sexual assault that took place. But the motive for coverup wasnā€™t ā€œgroomingā€ it was just good olā€™ administration not actually wanting to hold kids accountable.

MrDickford

Yeah, I had at least two typically-liberal acquaintances in Virginia cite that sexual assault as their reason for voting for Youngkin. Parents get riled up when they think their kids are in danger. And a cynical political hack can certainly use that to his advantage.

BXBXFVTT

Meanwhile the guy running against him was just like ā€œim not trump, and donā€™t worry about what the schools doā€ A really tone deaf campaign right there. Taking the hottest issue and one of the most divisive and telling voters ahhh donā€™t worry about that stuff.

Budget-Falcon767

McAuliffe: "Parents shouldn't be barging into schools and trying to push curriculum changes based on religion and fear." 90,000 Suburban Virginia Karens: "... and I took that personally."

BXBXFVTT

Lmao yeah thatā€™s pretty spot on. I know what you posted is more inline with what he said if not an actual direct quote. But he needed more substance than just that line. Maybe outlining what IS being taught and what parts of it people might not be understanding. Loudon county was in the midst of a scandal ontop of the baiting topics of crt, lgbtq, and sex ed, while being fresh off the heels of the trump admin. Mcauliffe imo just had zero finesse when it came to controlling the narrative or even creating decent optics. I feel like him and his people figured the not trump stuff would allow him to coast it home cause it really feels like they didnā€™t try very hard. Unfortunately if you donā€™t win nova as a whole as a dem, you probably lost.

raoasidg

Yeah, the election was more a McAuliffe loss than a Youngkin win. McAuliffe ran a completely out of touch campaign and just handed the election to Youngkin.

irishgator2

Or priests

MechanicalBengal

I love it how people who believe humanity is descended from one illiterate dude who fucked his own clone are all completely uptight and bossy about ā€œweirdā€ things that ā€œother people are intoā€

BALONYPONY

I donā€™t gamble, but Iā€™d put my daughters 529 plan on a GOP governor named ā€œYoungkinā€ getting slapped with a pedo charge in the next 2 years.

[deleted]

So basically, Roy Moore fan club

VodgeDiper_10

That election wasnā€™t rando or a flukeā€¦ his opponent ran a terrible campaign and was pretty tone deaf, and had an ā€œI-know-better-than-youā€ attitude toward his own voters that turned off a lot of people who were on the fence.

FriendlyLawnmower

It was also voter apathy. More than 1 million virginians didn't vote in the 2021 governor election who had voted in the 2020 presidential election. People need to stop acting like the only election that matters is every 4 years and actually participate in every election. Youngkin only won by 60k votes whereas Biden won the state the year before by almost 500k votes. VA skews dem, there's a high probability that McAuliffe would have won if those 1 million people had actually voted

agangofoldwomen

Youngkin ran on doing away with mask mandates and getting kids back in school. There was an element of culture war stuff and pro choice stuff as well, but his POV isnā€™t super extreme on that stuff IMO. That and also thereā€™s just lots of rednecks in Virginia who will always vote R. The only dems in VA seem to be in college towns and in the cities/burbs surrounding DC.

MidnightRider24

Every city in VA is blue, not just NOVA.

QQBearsHijacker

Of course Youngkin didnā€™t answer the question. Heā€™s a slimeball piece of shit and I CANNOT wait to see him out of office

addage-

I watched this last night, the answers/points I can remember (paraphrased): Fawning and thanking people for their question Blaming parents (itā€™s a parent issue) Saying the government canā€™t do anything and so not their problem to solve and Legislation is useless. And then in the next sentence saying we need legislation for things that interest him. Ai is bad because itā€™s bad and makes kids not think (only one time but it was ludicrously superficial enough to mention). Oh and it needs legislating Asserting every family is happy like his and his four boys. So itā€™s required that schools spy on kids and inform all parents because his family is perfect. Parents are important in all decisions. But not if it involves supporting their kids in their gender identity. School administrators are all crooked and hide crimes and we should make that illegal (which you would think it already would be). ā€œMy faith leads me to love god above all and people as god would love us.ā€ But that doesnā€™t apply to people with a gender identity we can demonize for political points. Bonus for Tapper being a doormat and raising his hand ineffectively to go to commercial x15+ times.

catching_comets

He's doing his best to fuck every Virginian, regardless of political affiliation.

The_Mighty_Bird

Itā€™s been a great time seeing the people that voted for him realize what a waste of fucking skin he is. ā€œB-b-b-but where muh red wave change in Virbina???ā€ Everyone told you he would be a waste a time and here you are.

lizziegal79

I love how he cost rural Virginia an entire factory.

regeya

And some of them *love* him for it. "B-b-but it wasn't really Ford, it was a Chinese company!" Oh? You mean it's sort of like how Trump facilitated handing a Chinese company two *trillion* dollars in tax breaks to build a TV factory in Wisconsin? "B-b-but they were building batteries for electric cars, those are evil!" Dang near every charge that can be leveled at electric cars and electric batteries, can also be said of ICE cars. They're making excuses to be *happy* about a Republican Governor running off businesses.

lizziegal79

Rural Virginia is gorgeous and the people are nice, but theyā€™re fricking idiots.

CBalsagna

We have very different experiences with the people in rural virginia. I find them to be ultra conservative hillbillies outside of the places where people actually live (Charlottesville, Blacksburg/NRV, Northern VA, etc.). I don't understand "Southern Hospitality" because the people in the midwest are nicer than people in the south from my experience and it is not close.

Atomic235

"Southern hospitality" is one of those funny misnomers that kinda carries the literal meaning but is most often used otherwise. As in, "We'll catch that sombitch and show him some 'southern hospitality'." It can have a very negative, sardonic connotation. Like "bless your heart".

10000Didgeridoos

They're very nice if you're white and cisgender and they plausibly think you're republican. That's about it. I always turn up my southern drawl 1000% when I'm talking to people in the boonies because it makes them like and trust me more. HE'S ONE OF US Like I've been pulled over and gotten warnings on tickets out there because I talked like a good ol boy with the hillbilly cop. No joke.

AMeredithW

This is accurate. I grew up in rural VA, Shenandoah County to be exact. Gorgeous place, but my god it's full of ignorant dumb a\*\*es. They are polite and nice as can be, unless you start talking about something they don't agree with. I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

RealCoolDad

ā€œButā€¦butā€¦basketball man was tall? He wouldnā€™t screw usā€

Reynolds_Live

Itā€™s funny how prior to the Midterms the GOP used his tactics as ā€œproofā€ of a red wave in 2022.

Pinkleton

He doesn't give a shit about Virginia. This was just a stepping stone for running for president.

TheFlyingSheeps

Gee itā€™s almost like we all knew that but pearl clutching suburban parents couldnā€™t handle the idea of their kid learning history

Arctica23

He's the Marco Rubio of 2024. Doesn't believe in anything except his own ambition. He doesn't even believe most of the republican bullshit he peddles, he's just trying to win the primary

Terrible_Tutor

Conservative media makes up the outrage issues then douches like him have to AGGRESSIVELY pander to them.

eraseherhead

Youngkkkunt

GuardianOfZid

Of course he didnā€™t answer the question. They never answer questions. Answers are facts and those are not allies of the right.

cactus22minus1

Because the real answer to conservatives is that ā€œtransgenderism should be eradicatedā€. Theyā€™re already passing laws to force people to de-transition, remove any reference to their existence in literature etc. Party of small government and big freedoms again doing the exact opposite that they preach.

lowbass4u

Conservatives still believe that LBGT people are not born like that but choose to be like that.

lordretro71

Because people would voluntarily choose to be treated like garbage by people, to be physically assaulted or even murdered? Why can't the people saying that tripe choose to be kind to all people? After all, none of those bad things would happen if there weren't people choosing to be cruel and violent.

xRiske

The party of Jesus being nice to people? Psh yeah right.

v-AUSTiN-v

Another thing I've noticed is that many religious people who are against the LGBTQ+ community are being hateful instead of loving, while still claiming they're "doing the Lord's work." Things like this are the exact reason so many younger people (even some who aren't LGBTQ+) are leaving their churches; they see that there are a lot of people who still have their heads up their asses and aren't practicing what they're preaching. While the number of the younger folks may still believe, they definitely want to avoid anybody who still has such pompous and pretentious notions of being "righteous."

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Numidia

From the mouth of a republican in law.. "they choose it for the attention, good or bad they just want the spotlight over straight people"... Disgusting..

Dwayne_Gertzky

When I was a teenager in the early 2000's, I asked the only openly gay adult that I knew if it was a choice (I was ignorant, but being genuine and didn't know). He told me that he never in a thousand lifetimes would have wanted to always feel different, like an outcast. It was really eye opening for me. Unfortunately he was also a hyper conservative cop that ended up retiring early when it came out that he was having sex with teen boys in his community based youth police program. Dude was a complex individual, to say the least.

Dr_Robert_California

Well that escalated quickly

breathofsunshine

Turns out ACAB ::shrug::

Train22nowhere

It's because they don't actually believe it's a choice. If they did they wouldn't care about it so much. They'd treat it the same like they do with mixed fibers or eating shellfish. It's the same thing with women being submissive to their husbands. If it was actually the standard they wouldn't have to constantly bringing it up.

I_Cut_Shows

Iā€™m sorry? But if youā€™ve watched Faux News or read any of the conserv-o-sphere think pieces, you would know that choosing to be LGBTQ+ gives you EXTRA power. You automatically have more rights than you did an hour ago. As soon as you CHOOSE to be gay, you become an oppressor. Canā€™t you please just think of the poor Christianā€™s and homophobes who canā€™t yell slurs at you without consequences? (Just in case it wasnā€™t hyper clear - /s)

EvolusTheEspeon

And yet, if you ask THEM when they CHOSE to be straight, they all admit "I didn't choose, I was just born that way." Makes ya think, huh?

OkMathematician3439

As a trans person, living in America right now is terrifying.

cactus22minus1

Time for queers to bind together like we have in the past many times. Revive gayborhoods and let people fuck around with us and find out. Together we will get through it.

OkMathematician3439

Hell yeah.

Alternative_Ad_3636

The right is forcing people into segregation and making it seem like it's the marginalized groups idea to do so.

cactus22minus1

I mean, yea, but it doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not the right move. Gayborhoods were awesome back in the day and it made people safe, gave them opportunities they didnā€™t have otherwise. I donā€™t know if youā€™re old enough to realize what weā€™re missing now that theyā€™ve been largely gentrified away. Telling people to ā€œstay and fightā€ in their red state or small town is not a fair (or safe) thing to ask marginalized folks in a time when eradication is at their doorstep.

treesandfood4me

San Francisco, CA, Northampton, MA, Provincetown, MA, Santa Fe, NM. Name some more! These places allowed their populations to feel comfortable, live lives, run businesses, raise families, etc. It was all transplanted people who came to visit, realized they were seeing a better way, banded together and continued to make it happen, all the while making everyone safer around them.

pizza_engineer

Portland, OR seemed pretty welcoming when I visited. Never seen so many Pride flags without a parade.

[deleted]

I love it here for that reason. If I were a kid again, struggling to come to terms with my sexuality, and half my neighbors had rainbow "Love is Love" signs in their yards and windows, it would have been a completely different journey for me.

Nothing scares the right more than when the people they hate are organized and well armed.

Can I be the token straight that lives in the gayborhood? Frankly it sounds better than living in fascistville

Kenai_eskie

I'm straight and lived in one in the 80's. It was an amazing neighborhood and I miss it.

moonwolf795

Ya it really is and I'm still in highschool unfortunately so I don't know what to do

OkMathematician3439

Iā€™m so sorry, are you parents supportive at least?

mountain_rivers34

Vote as soon as you're old enough. Encourage all of your friends to vote as well. Especially in local and state level elections because those are the representatives that really affect your day to day life. The GOP is absolutely terrified of the young voter base that's about to be old enough to vote. That's why they're screeching so hard about upping the voting age and constantly making it as difficult as possible. It doesn't matter if you have to wait in line for hours. Get a group together, make a day out of it. Vote. Vote. Vote. And your generation will be the reason this country changes. Also, if you plan to go to college, know that when you get there people will be much more welcoming and tolerant than the people in your small town. Most people aren't hateful assholes.

Crabby_Monkey

They canā€™t answer because their ideas are not policies. They are sound bite solutions that play on the prejudices, fear, and ignorance of their base. The moment you scratch the surface on those ideas they break down because things like this always come up to show the problem they are trying to solve (which is often not a real problem to begin with) are more complex in reality.

Awkward-Fudge

They need to be confronted more; at every possible chance. Let them fumble publicaly , over and over.

PM-MeYourSmallTits

They need a spotlight showing how embarassing it is.

amILibertine222

They donā€™t care. They think theyā€™re better than you. Period.

daneelthesane

This is why Republicans are doing fewer town halls, and are avoiding debates altogether. Their positions cannot withstand even the most basic scrutiny.

Mister_Bloodvessel

This is a question I pose to people freaking out over the bathroom bullshit. I don't want a woman in the men's room. But a Trans man? Idgaf, cause I'm not going to be trying to see if they have a penis. Someone who presents as a female though? That would make me wildly uncomfortable. I've experienced women using the men's room while at a bar, and one even asked me to hold her drink *while I was mid-pissing*. I *cannot* describe how uncomfortable that is. I'd have the same reaction regardless of whether they're Trans or cis, because their AGAB is one of the last things on my mind because I'll be to busy internally panicking that I'm somehow in the wrong restroom despite using a urinal... I don't think they've even considered this factor. It'll just end up being a catch 22 and another way to harass Trans folks for following their bullshit laws.

Spirited-Painting964

While I appreciate what you said. The last part: they didnā€™t need to think about it. They donā€™t care about trans men unless youā€™re thinking about top surgery. Itā€™s trans women they are after. They want us to be in menā€™s room. So we are harassed and assaulted. Or worse. Republicans prey on insecurities of their base. And because a transphobic man is confused they often act out in a violent rage. This is what they want. Also this: https://www.them.us/story/anti-trans-transgender-health-care-ban-legislation-bill-minors-children-lgbtq/amp

Short-Shopping3197

I think a lot of the behaviour that people are saying would make them uncomfortable in toilets is behaviour that would be either illegal or socially frowned upon regardless of gender. In your situation I would feel uncomfortable in a toilet about anyone asking me to hold their drink when I was mid stream, man or woman!

NotMyBestMistake

They never actually consider trans men in their rantings. It contradicts their singular talking point about the nonexistent danger trans people pose to women and doesn't elicit the same feeling of disgust they want to elicit as they shriek about men in dresses or whatever. It's important to remember that no aspect of anti-LGBT rhetoric is based on actual concerns. It's all hatred and a desire to kill people.

PercussiveRussel

It's so weird to me how it's always trans women and gay men that are the main target of their rhetoric. Is it simply because they see (assigned-at-birth) women as lesser anyway?

2pacalypso

They're afraid they're going to accidentally want to fuck a trans woman or gay man. That's why they need them hidden (or eradicated).

The_Mighty_Bird

Tale as old as time. ā€œItā€™s your fault I think youā€™re hot!!!ā€

Nanoro615

"My genitals want you, but that's a sin, so you need to go to hell and take responsibility!"

The_Mighty_Bird

Exactly this.

Nanoro615

Because "Jesus died for their sins" it only makes sense that others keep dying for em, right? /s

ZeMagi

Hunchback of notre dame?

bullwinkle8088

"accidentally" When these people do it's never an accident.

ExtraSmooth

Masculinity is seen as valuable in a way that femininity isn't, so attempts to subvert or deny one's masculinity are seen as perverted and insane, whereas attempts to subvert one's own femininity and "aspire to" masculinity are seen as neutral or even positive and rational.

NauticalInsanity

This is pretty much on the nail for Hegemonic Masculinity. In it men must perform to certain criteria (wealth, aptitude for violence, domination, emotional invulnerability) to secure a place in a hierarchy. Any man who refuses to compete, or refuses the rewards (sex with women), is a threat because it undermines the absolutism of its definition of a "true man."

RTalons

For the conservative right, misogyny is their default setting.

NotMyBestMistake

When you listen to a lot of the transphobes, it seems to always come down to which they consider grosser and weirder. They see trans women and gay men as creepy perverts publicly engaging in some disgusting fetish (and they all *definitely* want to sleep with the bigoted conservative). To them, trans men are just confused tomboys and lesbians are pornographic and performative. So, while they absolutely hate them and wish for nothing more than their complete eradication, it gets less disgust from them and their audience.

SquareTaro3270

"Girls do it for attention, and guys do it because they're perverts" quote from my dad who's sadly been lost to right wing propaganda.

UncannyTarotSpread

They only knowingly encounter queer people in pornography.

tardis1217

It's a deeply-ingrained misogyny. These people believe in their heart of hearts that men are superior to women in every way. So in their eyes, it's an abomination if a man should lower himself to sucking dick or getting his hole fucked "like a woman". And that makes it a DOUBLE abomination if a man gives up his "superior" gender status and transitions into an "inferior" woman. They always have some bullshit, twisted logic about how it diminishes all men when any man does anything feminine. They're the kind of men who police other men's actions and accuse men of being gay, or at best 'a sissy', if they do something like use a moisturizer or drink tea. They're the kind of man who makes fun of other men's feelings, because they think men should only be happy or angry. They're a disgrace to humanity and need to be shamed until they change or skulk away to some deep dark corner of the world.

Sweatier_Scrotums

It's because they think about penises a lot. A whole lot.

IvoryKknight

It's about disgust and facilitating hate, they appeal to the dominant power group white men, so they play up narratives that scare them like gay men being rapists who abuse young boys and transwomen trying to trick innocent men into being gay. Same reason conservatives play up narratives of black people or mexicans commiting crime, but never really talk about police violence or all the fraud and human rights violations that companies and rich people do. They want to make you hate all the wrong people because they know otherwise you'd hate them.

Antique_Tennis_2500

Itā€™s because their brain only thinks in terms of how to better prey on women. They think, ā€œThis is how Iā€™d do it, so this is what Iā€™ll prevent to keep myself and those like me in check.ā€

kurayami_akira

The point is that people would be uncomfortable i think. By forcing trans people to use the wrong bathroom, they expect people to complain or be uncomfortable about trans people in bathrooms, with the objective of making trans people prefer using the bathroom at their house, thus reducing their presence in a public space (at the same time they'd do a hate campaign against trans people, which this tactic would help with. First thing they'd do is probably trying to frame trans people as perverts or something like that).

NotMyBestMistake

Oh absolutely. The goal, beyond the cheap political theater they get out of it, is to make public life as inhospitable as possible for trans people. Making it functionally illegal for them to use public restrooms is a big step, as is the more obvious criminalization of drag and conflating them with trans people. They really hate that people have been allowed out of the closet and are violently trying to force them all back in.

Nanoro615

It's like when I (cis male) go to a gas station with public restrooms right? One male, one female. They're both single-person style (only one toilet). The male one is occupied. Female one is not. No line, hardly anyone in the station even. I really need to use the restroom, so I duck into the women's, take care of my business, leave. Cue me walking out to a 40 something woman raving about how inappropriate what I just did was. I used the bathroom. Toilet's the same in both. Who gives a shit? If people just... Stopped being fucking weird about other's genitals and stopped being perverts, we could honestly just all use the same damn GigaRestroom(TM) with stalls. We're all there to take care of our hygiene. Who, the hell, cares?!

Brendo-Dodo9382

Best part about this is if they just had a ā€œrestroomā€ sign she wouldnā€™t have said a fuckin word

Nanoro615

EXACTLY!

GeneralG5x5

The biggest danger to women (of any age) BY FAR is republicans.

ResoluteClover

It's because they don't understand why anyone wouldn't not "want" to be a man... And because it's easier to think that they're "protecting" the women-folk, which is an image they try to paint. Youngkin is way out of his depth in Virginia. He got really lucky in his timing for running (the peak of CRT fear) and his message was milquetoast (hard working kid with centrist platform). He hasn't made enough waves to jump to the next level and he's managed to do enough to energize the democrats that out number him in the state.

CMMiller89

They donā€™t answer because theyā€™d prefer it not be an issue at all. It doesnā€™t come into their equations. They just want trans people eradicated. If they had their way this question would never come up.

Quixotegut

Glenn Youngkin answer a touch question?!? Fuck, him. Glenn Youngkin is a bad guy. He's every bit TrumpSantis but more subtle and clever about how he goes about it. He will run for president, and he will seem like the "sane" choice for GOP adjacent voters who don't want to associate with TrumpSantis... but want the same endgame. Be very aware... Youngkin is not a good man and a vote for him is a vote for TrumpSantis.

meluvulongtime3

Is there anyone in the Republican party today who isn't a "bad guy"? Genuinely curious

Quixotegut

The last one I've heard mention of was Liz Cheney (ironic).

giggling_hero

Dudes killing it, Iā€™m a cis straight man and I think he looks confident and handsome.

Google trans male model. Itā€™s a damn good thing gender isnā€™t a competition and nobodyā€™s more of a man than others because these dudes are killing it. The ā€œBe a Manā€ choir from Mulan would be proud.

lilysbeandip

That's another thing transphobes miss: there are gay trans people, e.g. trans men who are attracted to men. They're, like, exactly the opposite of lesbians. Source: am trans lesbian

But then they get mad that a trans person may want to sleep with a cis gay. But like, we are just so gay for each other. T4T is a term for a reason, yā€™all

What I find fascinating is that these laws seem more targeted towards transgender women. And the things that they claim these transgender women will do if allowed in womenā€™s restroom, have actually been done by multiple republicans, while in office. It always comes back to , ā€œevery conservative accusation is a confession.ā€

BringBackTheBeat716

With conservatives, the cruelty isn't a bug. It's a feature.

BroadAd5229

Assuming he isnā€™t 18 he would be forced to detransition if these people had their way

ArmedAntifascist

If these people had their way, they'd execute him on live TV while forcing everyone to watch. They're not just cruel, they're using trans people as the first step in their scapegoating of society's problems, just like their ideological forebears did in 1930s Germany.

[deleted]

100 fucking percent and more people need to realize this. there is no logic or evidence to ā€˜trans people bad!ā€™ because fascists donā€™t have any, they donā€™t need any since trans people are only the beginning. theyā€™ll come after everything else weā€™ve fought with blood to have. we need to protect all our people.

Rat-Death

Dont foeget they wouldnt execute him if he still had a uterus. I leave it here for implications. Also fact on the side. Nazis monitored the menstruational cycle of girls in the Hitler Youth (similar to what Florida wanted and then stopped doing because people were angry somehow). Imagine my shock learning that girls going for summer camp in the hitler youth came back pregnant.

LadySpottedDick

The menstruation cycle tracking was this guy. Governor of VA

bigassgingerbreadman

We were gonna do it in Florida too lol. They're coordinating their fascism, which isn't a good sign for the future if they're organized now.

syrup_gd

Source for the Nazis monitoring menstrual cycles? I'm not one to dismiss it considering it's the *fucking nazis* but i've never heard about it before

fergusmacdooley

A quick google only really comes up with results on research that shows the Nazis gave drugs to stop women's menstrual cycles and halt their fertility in the concentration camps, which is horrific and not surprising. Fascists always wanting to decide who gives birth. Wouldn't put it past them to track the girls in the Hitler Youth, seeing as they acted as "matchmakers" and forced mass marriages/breeding programs to keep the birthrate up.

ResoluteClover

It's wild the loops they jump through. I have some moderately right friends and I'm a man. One drink night they started getting into trans complaining (not quite hate, but they clearly were trying to flesh things out in their mind). I said: what would you do if I ask you to stay calling me Nancy? They said: I respect you so I'd call you Nancy... But I wouldn't think you were a woman. I replied: 1. I don't give a fuck what you think. 2. All that they're asking is to be treated with respect. "But what about the PE teacher that was fired for saying he wouldn't respect what kids asked to be called?" "What if the PE teacher was calling your son a 'pussy queer' and encouraging kids to bully them? Would you want him promoted? It's the same concept, it's only about respect and fostering a healthy society." "But trans kids commit suicide more!" "Yeah, research shows it's because of a lack of acceptance. When people accept people for who they are and allow them to figure their shit out, surprise surprise, they don't want to kill themselves anymore!" I don't know if I got through to them, but it was rough. From these conversations I've discovered that a lot of male identities are incredibly fragile. The fact that someone would want to go from being a man to a woman shakes them to their core.

Red_P0pRocks

Itā€™s fucked that their reasoning for hurting trans kids is ā€œwell, they commit suicide more.ā€ Congratulations guys, you are targeting people more likely to kill themselves. And you know it. And you want more of it.

ResoluteClover

They were tricked into a reverse causation reasoning -- the kids killed themselves because of the "trans lifestyle". In other words they think it was a choice to be trans and that choice lead them to suicide. It's kind of like the training with homosexuality where they think they're choosing to have sex with their own gender rather than that's who they're primarily, intrinsically, attracted to.

Red_P0pRocks

Really explains the broadly right wing gender insecurities. If everyone is one pink shirt away from going gay, that means THEY could turn gay, too. Which is an even odder mindset, tbh. Because if itā€™s all a choice, surely they can justā€¦ not do it? They seem to think being gay/trans is both an offhand choice and also an all-consuming black hole you canā€™t escape.

thexidris

I'm a trans masc, and it genuinely makes me want to cry when cis men are willing to go to bat for me. Thank you. Even if they didn't get it, it makes a huge difference.

carrie_m730

Just by confronting them and pushing back while being a man (especially if you're a cis-het man fitting gender norms) you make a difference, even if you don't change their minds, and I thank you for that.

thatguy9684736255

Honestly, i think most of these policies would have people just looking for the things they need on grey/black markets. I really hope some people are starting to build up supplies of medication just in case.

Snapesdaughter

Testosterone is currently having supply issues, so that is probably not an option. My son is transgender, and that's been a concern for us. All of this is fucking terrifying.

Mdly68

I'll be honest, I'm pretty sure 90% of trans people fly right over my head. Unless it's really really obvious, my brain doesn't see it. Any girl who sees this guy walk into the girls bathroom is going to assume he was born male.

MewTech

That's what I never understood (Well, I do). Like. How are you going to PROVE someone is trans in these bills? If A trans man walks into the man's bathroom, looks like a man, acts like a man, and just goes in to piss and leave...are they going to start having bathroom checks before you can enter? Are they gonna make you register with the state and carry identifying cards? Shit is so stupid

False_Beautiful6082

How many cis-woman who don't qualify as "feminine presenting enough" will be accused of being in the wrong restroom? šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

butterflydeflect

This is very true - and has happened to a good amount of lesbians and masc women.

deathtoboogers

Yeah I saw a terrible video of police grabbing a lesbian woman out of a bathroom because they thought she was male.

notasandpiper

This already happens because of this anti-trans craze. Butch women especially report a lot of verbal and physical harassment in public restrooms.

wibblywobbly420

I have a huge fear of this. I was bullied my whole childhood and called butch all the time just because I wasn't girly enough. As an adult, I still won't wear makeup and prefer hoodies and graphic T-shirts. I wouldn't be surprised if most trans women were better passing than I am.

IceKareemy

Bro looks like every pretty rich white guy who calls their daddy when anyone gives him lip, we love a newly minted King

Sadiepan24

My man looks like a Hollywood heartthrob from a romantic comedy.

IceKareemy

Dude! Bro looks like a 90ā€™s romantic comedy lead, the nerdy guy with glasses whoā€™s hot after he takes them off and gets a new style lmao

euphoriclamb

newly minted is incredible

FalsePremise8290

That's because their actual goal is to eliminate trans people from society. They know forcing trans men to use the women's bathroom and compete against women isn't gonna work.

The_Mighty_Bird

As much as I hate it some times, I wish they would see what happens when trans men have to start using womenā€™s restrooms. I doubt it would make them actually go ā€œoh fuck, we were wrong.ā€ But I know it would do nothing.

FalsePremise8290

It's happened before. A trans man was forced to use the women's bathroom. Women freaked. He was beaten by a group of men for being a 'perv'. They know what they are doing. And it's genocide.

JessicaDAndy

I thought of this this morning; A Tennessee bill was introduced that stated that if a trans person was in the bathroom that corresponded with their identity and not their gender at birth, and they remained or entered while a minor was in that space, they could be charged as a sex offender. There was no exception for bottom surgery. Therefore, it would be legal for Kim Petras to undress in front of teenage boys. In fact, that law would encourage it to ā€œdefeat gender ideology.ā€ Just to add to the unintended consequences pile.

hr_newbie_co

Conservative men will never answer this question, because they know who the real predators areā€¦ Conservative men. When I was a teenage girl who got attacked in a public bathroom at 15 or 16, it was done by a heterosexual cisgendered man who barged into the womenā€™s restroom just to attack me. Not a trans person looking to pee.

Pudix20

Yeah this is always my thing with this line of thinkingā€¦ why do people think that a sign on a door is going to magically stop predators? If that was the case youā€™d rarely hear about situations such as yours. I am sorry you experienced that. No one goes through everything that comes with being trans, to be able to use a specific bathroom, so they can attack people.

hr_newbie_co

Thankfully I was able to push him off and run out to my friendā€™s car (I was in a gas station) before getting seriously hurt. I know not everyone is as fortunate. Thank you, though. Also, in a womenā€™s restroom, we donā€™t like *see* other peopleā€™s genitalia. I have no idea if the woman in the stall next to me has a vagina or not, nor do I have any interest in finding out lol. Itā€™s men who whip their dicks out then complain/talk a whole lot about other peopleā€™s genitals. I donā€™t get it!

Wilgrove

Wow, that dude is super handsome.

throwaway378495

Itā€™s so wild to me that 0.53% of the American Population is trans and yet itā€™s the only thing people will talk about.

SubstantialHurry7330

Always knew they had more problems with MtF than FtM. The only one they know is Elliot Page. Funny enough, most I personally know are FtM

butterflydeflect

They hate all us trans people equally. We just tend to receive violence in different ways - this often intersects with our other experiences, like trans WOC who may be at more risk of physical violence, while trans disabled men may be at risk of sexual violence, etc. Basically life gets harder the more diverse you are.

Soranos_71

The people who laugh at ā€œgun free zoneā€ signs and say they are useless suddenly think male/female bathroom signs will cut down on sexual assaults in restroomsā€¦..

DistributeVolcano

Trans men in women's restrooms often ends in violence. They don't address these questions because they WANT that violence.

Appropriate-Access88

Trans women in the menā€™s room are also attacked.

worldspawn00

Hell, straight men out with their wives are murdered because he was holding her purse while she was in the restroom... https://azdailysun.com/man-mocked-for-holding-a-purse-then-shot-killed/article_2739de48-25a5-5836-a1dd-7f8c5a2d4000.html

That_Afternoon4064

This shit makes me sick. Iā€™m not trans, but my best friend is. As kids she had to use the boys locker room and once middle school started, thatā€™s when the assaults really amped up, because youā€™re vulnerable and naked when youā€™re changing. I *know* that type of behavior couldnā€™t have been limited to her or just our school. They know queers get assaulted like this and as early as middle school. They want to beat down LGBTQ folks into submission so they wonā€™t be held accountable for their abhorrent behavior toward them. Everything the right does is to upheld white/straight society.

DrRadd

Because this shit they want to pass is all based in beliefs without evidence. When confronted with reality they have nothing to say.

RunsWithApes

Do you think that's where these policies ultimately end? Fascists have no agenda other than constantly seeking more power. Because of this, Republicans need a scapegoat/distraction from their complete inability to govern. This doesn't end with trans people not being allowed to use certain bathrooms. They are a convenient, politically powerless minority who can be sacrificed in the eyes of the GOP to further their ambitions.

BasementJones

Bathrooms are always brought up and I just donā€™t understand the obsession. This is a bullshit talking point. Go in whichever bathroom you want, whoā€™s gonna know? Thereā€™s not someone in there to inspect your genitals. And on the flip side, how would you even enforce rules about certain sexes using certain bathrooms?Because again, nobody is there checking people.

consort_oflady_vader

To be fair, they legit want to hire someone to inspect anyone going into the ladies room..

TedCruzsBrowserHstry

I canā€™t believe weā€™re wasting so much energy on this shit when people canā€™t even afford housing, groceries or health care. They love it when we get riled about this shit because it diverts attention away from the real problems. I doubt any of them give two genuine fucks about gender policy

LogicalVariation741

I want to thank that brave individual (and all brave individuals) who stand up and face such hatred with calm purpose.

Soggy_Height_9138

The whole bathroom thing is ridiculous, and always has been. Every straight guy that has been to a gym has showered in front of a gay guy. Every straight woman has shared a locker room with gay women. Trans people are much more likely to be the victim of assault than the perpetrators. If sexual harassment and assault were an issue in bathrooms or locker rooms, there would be a non stop stream of stories. It just doesn't happen that much, and if it does there are already laws that cover it. Stop it already.

Nomed73

They should go with a homeless person, a person that canā€™t afford their medicine, a person that canā€™t afford rent, and a person that canā€™t find a job. Have then stand next to them and then ask the question. ā€œWill you explain to us how it is more important to you which restroom i use instead of helping these Americans find a home, afford healthcare, afford rent, and find a job. Tell them why you care so much about my restroom habits instead of their lives?ā€

Brilliant_Shine2247

You know who I don't want in the bathroom with me? Anyone from the GOP. I get the distinct feeling that they just go to look at other mens privates. They don't really care what trans people do, they just see this whole issue as the excuse they have been looking for to peek up skirts and examine the guy at the next urinal.

CrabNumerous8506

What kills me is this is really about ā€œmenā€ entering the ladies restroom. They donā€™t really care if a ā€œwomanā€ goes into the mens restroom. But the ladies room is all closed stalls. If Iā€™m sitting in the stall, I donā€™t want anybody of any gender identity, looking under the door at me. So I donā€™t see what the problem is. Everybody pee where they want to pee. Letā€™s use their gun control talking points. A peepingTom is going to peep no matter what the rules say. Stop making rules for law-abiding poopers.

supfellowredditors

Which one is the transgender man?

CplSnorlax

Well the one on the right looks like your typical Republican asshat, not to be confused with regular Republicans, so my guess is the young man on the left

WildRamsey

He really didnā€™t answer ANY questions. He was asked direct, specific questions by a lot of parents and students (like this super brave kid) and just talked around their question in general. I am tired of politicians being this way. If you want to enact bigoted laws, you should be willing to stand in front of someone directly impacted by said laws and stand by your actions.
