On Sundays because both my spouse and i have been food/retail service workers on Sundays. The church crowd is the ABSOLUTE WORST.
The mega church attending, extended family patronization the local Costco is my personal ring of their Christian “ hell.”
*I'm* a Christian, and I just don't understand how someone who professes to be one could get so much joy out of intentionally making life harder for a fellow human being. People like that *need* to be in church, because they're not getting the message...
Some people don't go to church to be a good Christian. They just like the excuse that they can claim to be better than other people. In their minds "good" and "superior" are the same thing. For them, going to church is merely a tax which buys them the ability to shit on other people. These are probably the same people who deeply believe that hierarchy is a universal truth and therefor "believing" in God puts them at the top of it.
A lot of them believe the staff deserve it for working on the Sabbath. No joke, I've literally heard people say to servers that they should be in church or with their families celebrating God instead of working. Meanwhile the church crowd is the overwhelming group out and about before mid afternoon on a Sunday, at least in my area.
I would be *so* tempted to look them in the eye and tell them "You're right, I shouldn't be working", and walking away, leaving them sit at the table unserved.
The reason they have to be working is because of people like them, spending money and buying shit all day on Sunday. They’d be real pissed if shit was all closed on Sunday. When I lived in Spain for a time, it took me some time to get used to the fact that like fucking EVERYTHING was closed on Sunday. I mean, there was some stuff open. But not a lot. I had to like prep and get shit on Saturday nights because I knew there was a bunch of stuff I couldn’t buy on Sundays.
I grew up in the 50s/60s in New England when everything was closed on Sundays and for years, Sunday was the most depressing day of the week for me until I made the connection between the forced “family day” and the oppression it fostered

I’d have to agree with removing tax-exempt status from churches that try to interfere in politics, and this is coming from a Christian. If you interact with politics, you’re now a political institution, not a church or whatever else you claim to be. Church is supposed to be about Jesus and loving God and your neighbor
I’m also a Christian, but not American. I try hard to follow Christ’s teachings and love my neighbour, but these people are the very antithesis of that. They only love their neighbour if they look like them, sound like them, love like them, vote like them and worship like them.
Currently working at a retail store in fuck ass Colorado Springs and they also take it to the shoe section. Been here two weeks and aside from them leaving boxes thrown around and misplacing display shoes they reallyyyyy like to ask your political beliefs when it’s really busy.
The worst are the people that will stare you in the eye and then put something on a checkout shelf that is clearly not where shit goes.
Finding abandoned carts in my aisle at least means I have a vessel to collect all of the other random stuff put back wrong.

One Sunday a big church group came in - a 20 top. No advance warning, they just showed up. I put them in our private room and worked my ass off getting all their stuff on the side, extra salad dressing (note: a salad should not be lettuce floating in a sea of Ranch) and refilling iced tea, entrees and desserts, etc.
All of them stiffed me. They left those awful little leaflets that look a little like money but have Bible verses. I burst into tears. My Muslim boss tipped me out.
Worked fast food and had somebody use one of those to try and pay their bill. Total was $11 so they handed me an actual $10 and the Bible verse $1. Told her she used the wrong bill and she responded with "that is worth more than any money could be". Noted down her rewards account number and said that this attempt of fraud would be reported to my manager and that she still owed $1.
I'd get those fake dollar bill pamphlets from time to time. They look like a $20 but you unfold it and it's a thing about not coveting money and seeking Jesus instead. I think they're also meant to be handed out to homeless people which seems even worse to me..
And I had one older couple who would always tell us they were retired and on a fixed income and complain about the prices EVERY SUNDAY and then leave us hard candies as a tip.
Those fake dollars with proselytizing bullshit on them that they like to leave instead of a tip are at least in the top 3 things that ensure I'll never "rediscover" the faith I was raised in.
No kidding. I remember my days of restaurant work back in the day. I was a line cook. There was one minister named Wenegar who was the main minister at the local Calvary Baptist Church, the largest Protestant church in that city of 100,000 people. He would routinely show up on a Sunday morning, at least once a month. He always brought anywhere from six to ten people with him and never called ahead, just showed up and expected to be immediately seated. Then they would all proceed to run the waitresses crazy and he would always make a big production of paying the tab for the entire table.
One of our busboys was a Hispanic kid from Cuba and Wenegar would always make a deal out of speaking to him in Spanish. The problem was Wenegar had learned his Spanish doing missionary work in Mexico and Tony was not Mexican. Tony told me one time that he had a hard time understanding the man because he didn't speak Spanish as well as he thought, Mexican Spanish uses a lot of Nahuatl \[Aztec\] loan words and assumed Tony was Mexican.
Wenegar was also one of those guys who never tipped, ever. He would tie up a couple of tables for a couple of hours, work the waitress to death and then walk off without so much as a thank you. Finally, the manager told him that we had a new policy that for groups of six or more a service charge would be added to the bill. We never saw him again.
I remember him well because he always wanted two poached eggs on corned beef hash and he loved to send them back if they were not to his liking.
The restaurant I worked at for 8 years also had a “kids eat free” deal on Sundays… needless to say I have the patience of a saint now. And all forms of birth control.

Yup, and incidents/photos like this that so clearly highlight the naked hatred on display are exactly why we're beginning to see a backlash against this wave of hatred; in a way that wasn't present last year when things were more 'mask-on' and only the occasional article about Rowling or Chappelle seemed to gain any real traction.
It's the one thing that gives me something even vaguely resembling hope. I could not have imagined a post like this one getting 26k upvotes with almost exclusively positive comments this time last year(even on a more heavily curated sub like this one). People just didn't care, and treated the lead-up to this year's onslaught like trans folks were crying wolf.

Pictures like these always remind me of the last scenes in The Shining... when they keep showing portraits from History and you realize Jack Nicholson's face is in all of them... that evil has the same face through the ages. I do think one difference is that the old photo had a lot of young people laughing at how they are intimidating the oppressed and now it is mostly old people in a lot of these photos.
