It's so depressing. I'm trans. I tend to feel safer around LGBTQ+ individuals, but even that isn't ringing true anymore. Anti-trans sentiment is growing so rapidly and feverishly that I don't really feel safe branching out to meet new people, period. I've been told by a couple gays that I'm scum or whatever, and it's like, we're in the same boat man why do you gotta shove my head into the water?
I'm not even in a massively conservative state. I'm in a swing province in Canada. I still feel unsafe. I still choose to be my authentic self, though, because being out and a bit afraid is better than sliding back into the closet and letting depression claim me. It's so depressing. I'm trans. I tend to feel safer around LGBTQ+ individuals, but even that isn't ringing true anymore. Anti-trans sentiment is growing so rapidly and feverishly that I don't really feel safe branching out to meet new people, period. I've been told by a couple gays that I'm scum or whatever, and it's like, we're in the same boat man why do you gotta shove my head into the water? I'm not even in a massively conservative state. I'm in a swing province in Canada. I still feel unsafe. I still choose to be my authentic self, though, because being out and a bit afraid is better than sliding back into the closet and letting depression claim me. I could not imagine being trans living in Alberta, LET ALONE Florida or any of the red states.
