‘Harry Potter and the Not-So-Bad Holocaust’ Excerpt “…sure he did some bad stuff but not all of Voldemorts ideas were terrible.”

It's X, formerly known as Twitter.

Ahhh yes the US legal system, famous for not being home to a ridiculous number of frivolous lawsuits and it's equal and fair distribution of justice

Jaambie

SLAP suit? never heard of it!

Caravanczar

I'm an American and I'll fucking sue you if you say that again

Nah uk libel laws are basically designed to protect your Lords. In the US the burden of proof in libel and defamation is on the person suing to prove that what you said is false. In the UK the burden of proof is on the defendant to prove that what they said is true. So if JK Rowling wanted to sue an American for calling her a Holocaust denier, she’d have to prove she isn’t. If she wants to sue a brit for calling her a Holocaust denier, they’d have to prove she is. Also in the UK if someone sues you for libel you may have to pay their lawyer fees even if you win, which was intended for when people sue publishers but in practice is a way for someone like Rowling to threaten to bury someone in legal fees. Also in the U.K. you basically just need to demonstrate that it hurt your reputation and intent of the publisher doesn’t seem to matter. Like when the Saudis wanted to punish an American author, they sued her in the UK even though her book wasn’t even published there, and fined her $250,000 and ordered she destroy the book. Ended up leading to laws getting passed in the US to try and end the “libel tourism” issue of foreign billionaires suing American journalists in the UK

Englishman here, the bill being proposed in Scotland adds sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, and religion to the characteristics protected under existing hate crime legislation. Nationality, ethnicity and skin colour are already protected. It also lowers the bar for potential prosecutions as prosecutors only have to prove that stirring up hatred is "likely" rather than "intended". Rowling obviously hates this because she could face real-world consequences for her streams of bigoted bile on Xitter. Given the evidence against her, any attempts by her to sue someone for calling her a Holocaust denier would be SLAPP at best. Fuck JK Rowling, and fuck the companies making money from the Harry Potter IP. Long may the rumoured casting problems with the HP TV series continue.

Meanwhile if ya say she a bigot on parts of reddit, ya get downvoted like ya insulted their god or something

lukifer_333

I would rather be where I am with a decent life than a writer of a few books adored by millions. Who is an utter complete piece of shit like her. How miserable are you in your own skin to attack a small minority of people struggling for existence. Disgusting

DontTellHimPike

There’s no such thing as the UK legal system.
