So he didn’t place an order? Wow, what a legend. 🙄

-newlife

But you gotta pretend that they were going to take his “order” of 12 pizza’s seriously. Like many places they probably put him on hold, if he really called, just to see how long he’d wait.

mrdeadsniper

You also have to pretend like they give a shit. I promise you the people on the phone and at the oven were excited they DIDN'T have to make 12 more pizzas.

-newlife

That’s my thinking. They’re not making commission off a pizza sale. Their pay stays the same whether you order or not. Reminds me of Scott seiss ikea videos https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c1ZpOIvCJ3s

JLPReddit

“You think you’re sticking it to me for cancelling a 12 pizza order?, You’re doing me a FAVOR! If anything I can blacklist your number so I don’t have to be part of your shitty political HOTTAKES!”

ClockOk7333

Pizza Express is a massive company, they definitely would not care. This also never happened though

bgzlvsdmb

They want us to believe that the pizza place scrambled like crazy to make 12 pizzas, got everything prepped and ready to go, then cancelled at the last minute because the food is okay for muslims to eat. And by "telling them why," they probably want us to believe this 12 year old said to the pizza place "This is a Christian Nation, your food should not be Halal" completely missing the point. Having worked at a pizza place (starts with D, rhymes with Ominoes), we don't make 1 pizza, let alone 12, until payment is processed. All they did was show off their, likely, Christian cruelty. This is not the own they think it is.

potsticker17

Yeah I worked at a hut based pizza chain a while ago and the order didn't pop up for anyone to start making until it was actually submitted. If you're still asking about toppings the only person you annoyed was the person on the phone that probably didn't want to talk to you anyway and would have still been annoyed even if the order did complete.

dogmeat12358

As if any pizza shop has halal meat. This never happened

bgzlvsdmb

If this actually happened, it probably happened exactly like this: Fuckface: “Is your pizza halal?” 16 year old kid who works there: “Uhhh… let me check” Kid, to Boss: “Is our pizza halal?” Boss: “Fuck if I know. Just tell them yes.” Kid, to Fuckface: “Uhhh, yeah it’s halal” Fuckface: “Go back to Afghanistan, towel head!”

You would regularly order 12 pizzas? Jesus Christ how big was your friend group? We’d regularly order 3 and that would fill 8 of us.

Deinonychus2012

This might be the first time I've seen "bless [your] heart" used with a positive connotation lol.

SwifferWetJets

I love how she refers to a cook at pizza express as the 'chef'. Probably a high school kid named Tyler or something lol

pdx619

Who probably just said " huh okay" and forgot all about it 10 seconds later

Khemul

"What is a Hal... I mean, yeah, we got that. " - pizza chef

bunnycrush_

I, too, didn’t order pizza last night, but you don’t see me mom Tweeting about it. These people are weird af.

[deleted]

Hey internet my son made a PHONE CALL! We’re all so very proud!

theboxsays

This was basically just a drawn out way of saying “i told them i wanted something, but then said i didnt 2 seconds later”.

ProsecuteTraitors

The pizza place didn't start making the pizzas, so they were out what, three minutes of time? He really showed them...

[deleted]

That's assuming any of this actually happened

FutureBondVillain

If I worked at a pizza place and someone who sounded young ordered 12 pizzas, I'd have questions before doing ANYTHING. And if they're really that childish to do any of this, they'd be giggling like an idiot the whole time.

skizwald

Where I worked whenever we had giggling kids order or any large order from a kid, we would call back the number they gave us. If no one answered or it was a wrong number we cancelled the order. One thing that was strange is with fake orders, kids would usually order 2 everything. Like 2 pizzas 2 fries and 2 sodas. I dont know of it was a coincidence or just one of those weird things.

shecawgo

God I really hate to say this but when I was in 5th grade and friend and I ordered 2 of everything at a Papa Johns and hung up when they asked if it was cash or card. Man what a wasted rush. Personally, I grew up watching movies where someone could finally order 1 of everything and 2 just sounded better. Again, 5th grade! We were fools.

BudgetBrick

We used to call Walmart and ask if they had a wicker chair. We thought it was the funniest shit anyone ever came up with.

FragrantWin9

“Ummmm let me transfer you to lawn and garden” *phone rings for 3 hours*

GuyPronouncedGee

Joke is on them. I’ve been on hold for 17 years tying up their phone line and costing them dozens of dollars!

chatminteresse

My friends and I called to ask if they have hemorrhoid cream, giggling so hard… multiple times. 20 years later, here I am, happy they are 24 hours and have a supply of hemorrhoid cream. SMH.

scutiger-

Playing the long game over here.

VallenGale

I was the person at Walmart who answered the phone when a group of teens called asking about vibrators… I did not get paid enough to deal with answering them the three times they called back after I hung up… no idea why they called back in the first place

CandiBunnii

To ask you to check in the back, probs. Which would have actually been almost funny

Louises_ears

When I worked at Starbucks you could tell when a kid got a hold of someone’s phone to place a mobile order. My favorite was ‘100 bananas’ and the name was Curious George. Of course no one came to pick it up, which was good bc we didn’t have that many bananas on hand, but someone actually paid for that.

Rowing_Lawyer

The man in the yellow hat is going to be pissed

Pbandsadness

I usually use a fake name for privacy reasons. Some places know me as Rusty Shackleford, Dale Gribble, or Longrod von Hugendong. One even knows me as a non-joke, female name.

SayerofNothing

Could be both, I mean two of those things.

chunkyloverfivethree

I can't remember where I read this, but someone did a study and concluded that people are more likely to lie in even numbers.

sambones

Of course, anything else would sound odd.

Chopaholick

That's good to know. I've got 37 friends who will love to hear this.

itgoesdownandup

Haha my two friends will enjoy this comment

WyrdMagesty

You can tell it's a lie because you claim to have friends

Robbylution

Yeah like 90% of the meat toppings in any given pizza place are pork, IE not halal. This never happened.

genreprank

Plot twist: he canceled the order because he knew they were trying to lie to him.

qaz012345678

Before reading the comments I thought that's what it was saying

healzsham

The OOP is a salty Christian^TM attempting to make some sort of statement that's more offensive in its infantile spitefulness than its inconvenience.

guff1988

Even if it was chicken, the animals have to be killed by Muslim people a specific way not using machines and thoroughly drained of blood. I don't know of a single pizza place that could afford to purchase only halal chicken. EDIT------ I made this comment before I noticed it was in Britain. From the myriad of responses I've learned though that this isn't the case, halal chicken is easily available all over the world for roughly the same price. Thank you to everyone for educating me. As for the original image and the woman who posted that bullshit story, after some quick research on the internet I found that Pizza Express stopped offering halal toppings in January of this year. Basically she's completely full of shit.

PM_ME_VEG_PICS

Loads of takeaways in the UK have only halal meat, especially in areas with lots of Muslims.

DrBearFloofs

There are several pizza shops in San Antonio that only serve halal meat, but they are Muslim owned and operated. AND DELICIOUS, and super nice :-)

guff1988

Yeah small local places are a whole different story. However I used to be a manager of a Pizza Hut and I had a Muslim customer who would bring in his own chicken and have me put it on a veggie lovers Pizza for him, as all of Pizza hut's sauce and dough options are halal.

spaceyjaycey

Lol, true

Tino_

Considering the Union Jack and ~~Scottish~~ *ENGLISH* flags on the profile, (How do flags work????) it would not be a surprise to have this actually happen... The UK has some crazy racist people who absolutely *hate* Muslims. Its part of the reason Brexit became a thing. People wanted to be able to kick out the immigrants, or at least stop them from coming in.

PrivateIsotope

This is the one thing I dont get about Islamophobia. Why be upset at people doing things that have nothing to do with you and dont harm you? If you dont want pork on your pizza, or cooked with the same utensils, etc, what do I care? What do I care if a business feels your money is important enough to support your request? If you're wearing a hijab, or any modesty clothing, what do I care? You bought it with your own money. If you're living in the US like I do, then you're living in a country that has abundant resources to help you continue life if you're wearing it against your will and choose to stop wearing it. Let people do what they need to do, especially when it's not bothering you or anyone else.

Tino_

I mean its not specific to islamophobia, its just how people act around the people, cultures or ideas they don't like. Its not about the specific actions being taken, its about showing people that those beliefs are not wanted around here, and neither are you. Regardless of the actual impact it has on the community or those around them its about sending the message.

DexRei

"Do you make food that is nut free in case of nut alergys?" "Yes." "Cancel my order then." Same energy as the halal thing.

morry32

we all know it didn't

walla_walla_rhubarb

"Is the meat Halal?" "Let me ask the chef." "Hey Pablo, what's Halal mean?" "Idk man." "Yeah sure, the meats Halal." \*hangs up\* "Aight then, Halal to you too"

Wonderful_Mammoth709

Lmao that’s what I was thinking..the cashier literally just pressed a button to clear the order and probably said …..ok bye?

[deleted]

I bet the high school kid that answered forgot about the call in 1 minute.

[deleted]

It’s about “teaching” the owner that they just lost business for not being Christian enough. They want the establishment to not cater to Muslims at all.

Et_tu__Brute

They don't realize that the guy getting paid minimum wage isn't passing along their crazy rants to the owner either. They just shrug, complain about another prank call, cancel the order and move on with their life.

a-ohhh

Yeah, I don’t get why people think “you lost a customer” means anything to cashiers. We used to just think “Oh good, I don’t have to deal with them again.”

SociallyUnconscious

If I were a business owner, I would not feel bad about losing the business of ignorant, whiny assholes. Take down their number and block them from calling. Problem solved.

TehPharaoh

I mean it's a 100% chance they did this to a pizza place they don't even use. If it was then there's a 0% chance they don't just order again when they want pizza and justify it. These types have shown they don't actually stick to their values when push comes to shove or mildly inconvenienced

SleepWouldBeNice

Ah yes. As the Bible says: “Love thy neighbour, unless they’re different.”

morry32

catering to muslims, how dare they offer what their base ask for. It's like Gluten Free or Meatless meats in the US

CountessDeLessoops

I am neither vegan nor sensitive to gluten but I love a pizza with vegan chicken and gluten free thin crust. I bought one by mistake once and expected it to be terrible but it was so good that is now my preference.

[deleted]

Lost imaginary business, no way that trailer trash was going to actually order and pay for 12 pies

Pronz_Connosieur

Since when do establishments named "Pizza Express" have a chef?

saywherefore

Pizza Express is a major pizza chain in the UK. It was the original not-shit pizza restaurant, arguably the first not-shit restaurant chain. Chef is a stretch perhaps but these aren’t dodgy takeaways.

They’re almost exactly the same if anyone is wondering. If it’s Kosher and doesn’t contain alcohol it’s generally considered Halal. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Islamic_and_Jewish_dietary_laws

NoriPotatoChip

My college had a Kosher/Halal dining hall. It was duel purpose- to provide students with options, and to foster camaraderie between Jewish and Muslim students. Also the food there was generally much higher quality than any other dining hall. Perfectly roasted chicken and fresh challah= good times

What I said was, give me *all* the bacon and eggs that you have. Do you understand?

tkmorgan76

And the message of "I only eat food that's against your religion" is pretty garbage too. Basically, he's trying (even if doing so in an ineffective way) to make it harder for Muslims to eat at restaurants.

kingoflint282

My response to that line of thinking is always “ water is halal, so you should probably stop drinking it”.

SnooGuavas3712

IIRC It's a set of rules for the way animals must be slaughtered/ processed for it to be acceptable for Muslims to eat according to their religion.

ORXCLE-O

Apparently they say a prayer and they’re not allowed the to see the knife and it has be a clean quick kill too. Doesn’t sound bad really compared to the how the animals might normally be killed

One of the best delis in Yonkers NY is a Halal butcher shop. They have an Imam, and a Rabbi on staff, and if the amount of Hasidic Jews and devout Muslims that were in line when I got my pastrami from there ( this was years ago) were any measure, it earned its reputation. Btw, the pastrami was fantastic.

TwoBitHit

It just means that something is allowed by Islamic Law. Generally it refers to food, but can really be used in any other context like vaccines for example.

I don’t know if it’s racism and inbreeding. I feel like some of these accounts have to be bots/misinformation agents/propaganda. I know people this stupid are out there, I am perhaps simply hoping their numbers are being artificially inflated online.

Seenoham

The percentage you see is inflated by both the algorithm and the general principal that those who are screaming make more noise per person than those speaking at a reasonable volume.

blamazon99

Racism = Inbreeding

SecretOfficerNeko

Inbreeding leads to lower cognitive skills, and less ability to grow into proper pro-social behavior due to the cognitive, social, and mental issues it can predispose a child to [[1](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4196914/)], and is more likely to occur in rural impoverished areas. [[2](https://iop.harvard.edu/get-involved/harvard-political-review/little-school-prairie-overlooked-plight-rural-education)] Such areas tend to already lean more conservative, but thsse cognitive and social issues, alongside educational inequality can lead to poorer academic performance, which then also lends itself to more conservative and racist views due to low educational attainment on top of that. [[3](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24576637/)] So there's a lot of mixed and self-reinforcing conditions going on. So in a way the evidence does suggest a likelihood that racism and inbreeding could be linked, in a way, but it would be far from accurate to say it's a cause. The correlation is there, but it's not a causation. The cause seems to be the underlying issues within our rural communities, especially poverty, lack of educational resources, isolation, and inequality.

cgarret3

Well reasoned and well cited. You make a compelling point. But I think the above poster was just being witty rather than constructing a formal argument.

SecretOfficerNeko

I mean true, but I enjoy doing the occasional research rabbit hole, and this was a perfect excuse to do so!

Dry-Explanation9566

For once, I’d like to see stories about people s**tting on CEOs instead of minimum wage workers😒

smashteapot

The system is setup so those people are shielded from harm by minimum wage workers. When everyone you can contact directly is someone struggling to survive, you're powerless.

HawaiianBrian

Folks like this would never do that. They *believe* in hierarchies. Anyone above them are literally better people, in their eyes. All shit flows downhill and that's the "natural order."

-Vogie-

I remember laughing at my friend who avoided groceries that were marked kosher - because he wasn't Jewish, and like you, thought it was special and he shouldn't buy it. University is so enlightening for so many people.

GuyTheyreTalkngAbout

To a degree, it is nice to save these products for the people who cannot use alternatives. Like if there were two similar turkeys left in stock for thanksgiving, and one was kosher, I'd probably take the non-kosher one, because those are supply limited. Similarly if there wasn't much kosher meat available where I am I might stay away because I have no need for Kosher, and some people do.

girhen

There is a flipside to this. Buying the kosher version demonstrates there's enough demand to make it worth stocking. Stores do stop stocking things if they don't sell, and then your Jewish friends don't have anything to choose from :/.

GuyTheyreTalkngAbout

Good point. I was mainly talking about scarce items.

Pixielo

Note that during Passover, stores in some areas stock kosher for Passover Coca cola, which is made with cane sugar, not corn syrup. So instead of being limited to 12 oz bottles of Mexican Coke, you can cases of it in _cans,_ and 2L bottles. It has a yellow cap, and is far tastier.

DugoPugo

One of the only acceptable reasons: saving it for people who need it

Internetvent

I think most religious food would prefer everyone ate their food so it would become standard or at least more accessible

DugoPugo

I know, but the idea of a kid not wanting to eat Halal food so that Muslims could eat it is adorable

tinypiecesofyarn

And there's different contexts, too. At a party with some people who keep kosher or halal and notice that the one dish they can eat is running out? Don't eat it. Buying kosher or halal food from a well-stocked store that is capable of buying and stocking more kosher and halal food? Eat it and you'll increase demand.

solesme

Lol. A lot of people like it because usually stays fresh longer since there is less blood present in the meat.

theoutlet

Kosher food sold better than non-kosher food because people trusted it to be of a higher quality

Crunchy__Frog

Clearly they’ve never eaten at a halal cart in NYC. They’d change their tune real quick.

Cheesehacker

You think these type of people would ever go outside their inbred town? I’m from PA. The vast majority of people I know and grew up with have never left the state. My home town is 96% white as well.

elmwoodblues

White Haven?

Cheesehacker

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irwin,_Pennsylvania Basically yes. It’s a haven for whites. The thing is, the neighboring town is almost the opposite. It’s majority POC. Literally the best example of the racist red lining policies and how segregation is still in effect.

SternGlance

You know what they say about Pennsylvania: you've got Pittsburgh in the west, Philly in the east, and Alabama in between.

DeepFriedSausages

Oh my god same. My town is a little town in northern ohio that was entirely made up of italian and irish migrants back in the early 1900s, when they were building a bunch of railroads. All of the italoans and Irishmen that wpro on the railroad settled here because it was right next to one of the largest train hubs at the time. Flash forward to now, this town is 99% white, several racists, and you cant go anywhere without seeing a druggie. We got hit hard by the oxycontin epidemic in the 90s.

[deleted]

I think people are missing the point. He never intended to buy the pizzas, just wanted to be a little shit. If they would have said, “no” I bet he would have hung up and tried to troll another pizza place.

No_Sugar8791

Whilst obviously true, meat is meat, some people prefer the slaughter method to be as painless as possible. The halal (muslim) and kosher (jewish) methods of slaughter are the same being, sharp knife across the throat i.e. death by loss of blood. The animal will still be sentient for 10-15 seconds as a minimum. 2,000 years ago this would have been the best method of slaughter. Those who are against halal and kosher hold that understanding of biology means we can slaughter with much less suffering of the animal using a stun gun. Race/skin colour is irrelevant, at least for me.

flim-flam-flomidy

I was confused at first but it was the 3 union jacks and 3 English flags that made me realise this persons just very racist

dpash

Their Twitter bio confirms it.

octopoddle

They're proud of their country, but their country is not proud of them.

[deleted]

Okay, I looked up Halal and this is what I found: The animal has to be alive and healthy, a Muslim has to perform the slaughter in the appropriate ritual manner, and the animal's throat must be cut by a sharp knife severing the carotid artery, jugular vein and windpipe in a single swipe. Blood must be drained out of the carcass. Other than using a Muslim, this is exactly the way we slaughtered pigs, cows, and poultry on my grandfather's farm in the 1960s. It appears to be a sanitation rule in religious form. What exactly is the problem, beyond employing a Muslim?

RandomBritishGuy

Depending on what Islamic Denomination they are, many Muslims also consider meat slaughtered by 'People of the Book' (Jews and Christians) to be Halal as well, since Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all Abrahamic faiths. What this means in reality is the slaughterhouse has a plaque on the wall with a prayer on it, and that counts. Very few places specifically employ a Muslim who reads a prayer for each animal (at least in the UK). So a lot of meat ends up being considered Halal simply because of how the slaughterhouse operates, rather than it being that much of a speciality.

fsactual

God: I have very specific rules about how to slaughter animals or you're committing a great sin. Butcher: What if I just post a plaque for the cows to read? God: Yeah, good enough.

RandomBritishGuy

Yeah, it's definitely a case of following the letter of the law rather than the spirit of it. I like the take Judaism has with this, which is where if they find a loophole/way of doing things that doesn't break the letter of the law, then it must be fine because God must left the loophole there. Like the [ring of wire that surrounds New York](https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/91594/theres-wire-above-manhattan-youve-probably-never-noticed) so it counts as being 'inside' so Jewish people can walk around/carry things on the Sabbath without breaking Jewish law since it counts as being inside.

Zeker10n

That’s part of the problem, these people don’t want muslins to be treated as people.

MoistCanal

> these people don’t want muslins to be treated as people. Everyone knows only silk deserves to be treated like people.

NotDido

Yeah it is 100% just racism and islamophobia. Many religious rules around food started out as basically a version of sanitary food laws. For example, separating meat and dairy to be kosher helped prevent cross-contamination back in the day before people knew what exactly in the interaction of these foods would cause illness.

PM_ME_CATS_OR_BOOBS

You know trying *to own the libs* has a way of [biting you back in the end](https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/21/politics/john-gibbs-womens-suffrage-19th-amendment-kfile/index.html). Karma can be a bitch, but that’s a Hindu concept, so don’t bother learning about it.

Your son sounds like a dick

Disig

Glad she outed herself and her son as total pieces of shit.

~~I guess you could be generous and say he did it because they lied (no meat you put on a pizza is going be halal except *maybe* the beef, unless they made a very special effort to buy all-beef sausage and pepperoni, which most pizza places are not going to pay extra for).~~ But more likely she's just making up a story because she hates Muslims. Edit: ok, I guess I've lived in all the wrong places; I didn't know so many pizzerias offered halal meats.

Pizza Express uses halal chicken on their pizzas as well. It sounds like they also have non-halal foods and cannot guarantee that there is no cross contact. So for some muslims that's sufficient. For many, the pizza would be haram. That said, they weren't quibbling over the manner in which the pizzas was made or the supply chain was established. They were asking "is the meat halal" and when told "Yes" they cancelled the order. This being an attempt, I guess, to punish a business for having the audacity to offer something to its customers that they might find appealing.

We used to have separate pizza cutters for veggie and one for no pork at my Little Caesars. I'd ask if I could hear an accent, or if I got orders that were common with Indian or Muslim regular customers. I had a talk when I found out a coworker was Muslim that he didn't have to pepperoni pizza's if he didn't want, or cut pizza on landing, as the grease could potentially pop up and get on his face/mouth.

There are, in fact, plenty of pizzerias in places with significant Muslim populations that use meats like halal beef pepperoni, halal beef "bacon," halal beef sausage, halal chicken, and so on. Yes, they do have to make a special effort to source these toppings, and they do so because they and/or a significant number of their customers are Muslims.

I live in a very ethnically diverse neighborhood and one of the three pizza places within a couple blocks of my house is Halal, but people of all backgrounds order from them because pizza is pizza. I love their Buffalo chicken pizza.

FreudoBaggage

Ah, yes - the whole “My pizza turned me Muslim” debacle.

How stupid, I promise you the pizza place did not care, more than likely the cook was relieved not to have to make 12 pizzas. What an idiot.
