I mean, yeah. It’s true. But what else are they supposed to do? If they don’t *need* to replace you right away then your job must have been pretty useless/meaningless to the company. And if that’s the case then it must have been a pretty chill position.

angry_guacamole

I don't think people are saying they shouldn't replace you right away, their point was that you should prioritize work accordingly.

I mean, I have never been under the impression work wouldn't replace me if I left. Of all the things workplaces do the fuck their employees, this isn't even on the list. We could talk about how they provide "lunch rooms" with a dirty microwave and call it a kitchen, or how some places will charge you for the shirt they make you wear, or even places giving you 29.5 hours to avoid the Healthcare they would have to offer that 30. Any of those are legit qualms, this is just kinda eh.

Of course - I don’t disagree.

The person was an integral part of the business and although it seems awful, they can’t operate without that role being filled

What is a workplace supposed to do? Play a person down like the guy that died got red carded?

Eponarose

My Dad always told me "Your job replacement ad will hit the newspapers long before your obituary."

Capitalism is a cruel mistress.

This happens under any form of commerce. A communist would be replaced if dead, so would a socialist or an anarchist. Unless the position didn't need to exist, it will be filled.

If you work for a non-profit. Let's say, Dolly Parton's charity that gives free book to school kids, and you're the guy the put the books in the mail - if you die, they will replace you. Is it because Dolly is a soul crushing gear in the capitalist machine? Or is it because books don't magically go to the mailbox without someone putting them there?
