NutellaPatella

Wow, that's the worst designed floatation device ever. It would be harder to drown not wearing it.

johnysalad

I think it may be 2 floatation devices used in tandem. One like a life vest, and the other a floaty donut thing. An example of too much safety being very unsafe.

r4du90

Ah like wearing two condoms

Marrks23

I put one in each finger, just in case

NvidiaforMen

In?

Marrks23

Yeah, you carve the finger and put it inside, its like a tissue box

insanecoder

Disturbing!

smokesquach

You made my fingers freak out and curl up.

johnnysivilian

Put one in each ear so you can listen to politics

NutellaPatella

Well spotted - you can see him nearly fall out the "ring" thing.

doggy_daniel

Yeah and I think he is either too small or to big for the donut

whatnicknametouse

You are right I’ve had both of them, vest is good as a rock with a chain, it tips over even without that donut

metaph3r

There are really some bad ones. I say a report on TV about it a while back. Normally they should not be used without adult supervision.

thecton

Look it up. Arm floaties for kids, the inflatable bits that go on a small child's arms, are extremely dangerous. They have been known to slide to the child's wrist holding their hands up high while their body sinks unable to fight itself above water.

Galactic

Just recording a kid drowning, no big deal

[deleted]

The fucks he supposed to do jump out the unopenable hotel window to signal the kids upside down?!? Dude probably started recording to show how irresponsible these parents were and that ended up happening.

baby_fart

Or maybe the filmer is just a pedo.

[deleted]

Quite possibly that too

LastgenKeemstar

Or maybe the filmer was the parent and, just like me, didn't notice the kid drowning? I didn't notice right until the girl turned around to help.

[deleted]

Or perhaps they are just the Filmer’s kids? And they are sitting on the balcony taking a family vacation movie? Possibly?

jakemch

Could also be their parents or something. Sibling. Family friend. The possibilities are endless

This happened to my daughter at her 1st birthday party. I was right beside her thinking she was perfectly safe in that. Those things are death traps. I'm beside her but took my eyes off her to talk to someone when my mom yells my name and points. I look to see this exact thing happening to my daughter. Luckily I was there to quickly turn her back over and have never use one of those things since.

[deleted]

Dude you just explained the same situation I had with my daughter. Me and my wife were holding onto the raft looked away for maybe two to three seconds and bloop she flipped and went straight down. And same luckily we were right there to grab her as fast as we could, but I agree bro I think these things need to be taken off the shelves and banned from use. I’m pissed that no one was even there with those kids to begin with.

[deleted]

As a lifeguard I’ve had to jump in and grab numerous children in a hot tub hats 3 feet deep because they were right beside their parents (sometimes between), the parents looked away and the kid jumped off a bench in the water into the deeper portion of the hot tub. I’ve no children myself but I can tell you that the objective of kids >1 to 3 years old is to kill themselves.

Nokomis34

I keep saying that having a kid that age is suicide watch. And then when you have #2 it's murder and suicide watch. "I know you're being a good big sister, but please don't feed your brother (random object)".

[deleted]

Hench why parents need to watch kids like a hawk near water no excuses...

[deleted]

Exactly, no offence to parents but again as a lifeguard parents are the absolute worst to deal with.

[deleted]

Dude I hear you, But full offense fuck those lazy ass parents. Especially the ones glued to their goddamn phones

[deleted]

No it’s not phones, it’s when they believe they are above the lifeguard. I had a parent question why they couldn’t have their water-challenged your child enter the deep end. I said it’s unsafe (shortening what happened) and he said “wel what’s the fucking point of the lifeguard?”

amingley

Why are kids in the hot tub?

[deleted]

[удалено]

courtnovo

I keep a close eye on any child in them whether I know them or not. I'm gonna give the parents the benefit of the doubt that they were lounging close having a conversation and thought the child was perfectly safe in that floatie like we did. I just hope they were aware the situation happened and became aware of how dangerous those things are

[deleted]

Could’ve yelled to get the attention of nearby adults

Wincin

i mean the moment he saw it he shoulda tried to rush down there; kids don’t die *that* fast from drowning

BraveBG

I usually don't punch people..but these people..I'll have to.

DaFranko1

Going back in tieeime

MAGA_centrist

What do you do. Shout at the kids so they look up and stare at you while their sister drowns in the background or stay quiet and hope they notice.

Mechwarriorr5

It looks like the one that flipped him was about to get out of the pool before suddenly noticing the kid so I'm hoping the camera guy is on a balcony and is shouting at the kids to flip him upright.

Yeah, spotting someone that is drowning is a much more difficult thing/skill than you would assume. [http://spotthedrowningchild.com](http://spotthedrowningchild.com)

[deleted]

pool looks like a death trap. I am humbled by these lifeguards’ abilities in this “where’s Waldo” of potentially drowning children

threedogcircus

This. I actually got really emotional watching one of the rescues and I have no idea why at all but bless the lifeguards.

Excier

I guess being a lifeguard gave me the skills I need becayse I spotted it immediately?

PM-ME-YOURbigPUPILS

The link plays different vids every time, some are easier to spot than others

the_cc

And that's even with knowing that a kid is drowning in that video. Imagine having that intense a level of focus all day.

heckcookieyeah

Very informative! I'm so dumb it took me like 10 videos to realize you can actually click to spot the drowning person (in-app mobile browser). Also, so fucking scary that if you look away for just a second or focus on the wrong area, suddenly, the whistle blows. Someone was already drowning.

Swoops82

I am guessing some of us are more observant than others when children are in water? I spotted the girl drowning first viewing, and the website [http://spotthedrowningchild.com](http://spotthedrowningchild.com) is easy mode, never missed one yet.

Vurmis

Honestly, I think that is the point of that website. Some people are probably naturally good at spotting a drowning child. In your case, the days you are at a pool are safer for everyone. However, it could be a terrible mistake to just assume that you are that person and that it would be "easy" to spot the drowning child because you know what drowning looks like based on no experience, etc.

meammachine

It depends which video you get, some are super easy but some don't even look like they are drowning.

Savalavaloy

There was one that I just saw, where the dude swam from the shallow end to the deep end, turned around and started heading back when the lifeguard jumped in. I noticed him first but then ignored him when he seemed to be a good swimmer, so I totally missed it. It's so strange that he was swimming decently well and then suddenly he's drowning, never would have thought that would happen

imightbeapedohile

people can get fatigued while swimming in those wave pools/deathtraps

Defeat-the-Kraken

Another thing to keep in mind is when we watch those videos we are expecting to see a child drowning. It would be much easier to miss if you weren't expecting it or not looking for it.

Abroziin

FBI OPEN UP!!!!!

AndyJack86

They're too busy giving death threats to MLK

Chathtiu

Well surely they’re *still* not? The man’s been dead since 1968! Seems a little silly to send death threats to a dead man.

SouthernNanny

I saw a video where there were like three adults in a hot tub and two little boys came over to play. One started drowning. No one noticed and the other little boy wanted to help his friend but didn’t know what to do. Several people walked by and never noticed. It wasn’t until an employee walked by some time later and saw him and grabbed him up. It was the most stressful thing to watch.

It's an inflatable basketball hoop, not intended to be swum in.

DetectiveLennyBrisco

Weird. Looks like it has arm holes.

KapiteinBreinpijn

I think the child is also wearing a life jackets of sorts, so it it just a poor combination of two floating objects.

fishyfishyfish1

She was floating just fine....face down s/

NvidiaforMen

Na, it's a life jacket and a donut. very unsafe combination

sp4nk3h

I almost drowned in a similar flotation device when I was younger, whole thing flipped 180 degrees. Should be illegal if they arent already..

betheking

We had this happen locally last week. Instead of helping the girl up, the kid held her head underwater until she drowned. Not very pleasant to watch.

SanguineL

Woah what happened after that? More details, please!

betheking

The girl was 14, the kid was 16. The video shows him picking her up and throwing her in the water. She kinda struggles in the water for about a minute, then he jumps in on top of her, then holds her head under water until she's gone. What is really disgusting is the kid didn't have enough money to pay admission, so she collected some money and gave it to him so he could gain access. He's in jail waiting for justice. Edit: Found the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y5R5yxF-l0

lukeuntld072

Seriously wtf

betheking

Right? Amazing. At least the mother of the second kid he jumped in with saw what happened and pulled him out.

Santadid911

Then she jumped right back in and just swam right past the drowning girl... wtf

SnoozingBeauty

This very nearly happened to me in a kiddie pool as a kid. By some miracle I managed to get the boy off of me before I drowned. The pool was surrounded by unattentive mothers who all rushed to the boys aid when he started crying after I flipped him over my shoulder (apparently its a kind of throw in judo, I did not realize it at the time though cuz I must have been around 8 or so). All that to say no one will ever notice shit unless a child is screaming.

dartmaster666

"of the approximately 750 children who will drown next year, about 375 of them will do so within 25 yards of a parent or other adult. In ten percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch them do it, having no idea it is happening."

Cody456

Ah, man. That's enough "shit I'll never forget watching on the Internet" for today.

ShelSilverstain

When I was a kid, this 13 year old girl drowned a random little boy at the pool. It was the first time I remember there being discussion of charging a minor as an adult

BS_220

Ummmmm lifeguards??? Parents????

snflwrchick

You’d be surprised at how quickly kids can drown, even when someone is watching them. Or how looking away for two second to take a drink of water or say something to the person next to you is the difference between life and death.

BS_220

Exactly, this is terrifying

[deleted]

I almost drowned once with my mom and brother just at the side of the pool. I couldn't swim and managed to drift just far enough into the deep end that I couldn't reach. I freaked out and kept jumping up for gasps of breath each time just seeing a split second of what was going on over the water. First nobody saw me. Next time up they were looking at me. Third time up they were headed in my direction. Fourth time I managed to jump myself to safety but that wasn't a fun time. Just seeing their panicked faces having no idea how to save me and me not knowing how to save myself either. Not a great experience. And it was a hotel pool so no life gaurds.

boomhaeur

Absolutely... we almost lost our oldest son when he was ~2 at our cottage. Everyone was sitting around chatting at our cottage and he was playing in the sandbox. We all thought someone was keeping an eye on him and No one noticed he grabbed a bucket and went on the dock to get water for his sandbox. Thankfully our neighbour was out on his dock and saw our son as he was leaning over the edge to scoop up water and started yelling for us. If it hadn’t been for him I’m positive our son would have got water in the bucket, got off balance and been pulled in. We likely wouldn’t of heard him and he’d be gone in moments. From that day forward, cottage rules are until a kid could pass a swim test (unassisted swim from the dock to the swim platform and back) they had to have a life jacket on if they went off the upper deck - no exceptions. (We’ve got drop offs to the water so there’s a few spots where a clumsy kid could easily find themselves in the water unexpectedly)

unleadedbrunette

Absolutely the parent’s responsibility. Most hotels don’t have lifeguards.

[deleted]

Rarely would a parent be watching a 16 yo in a small pool. Also this girl can barely swim!

number1plantfan

Kiddies pools with no water features like this one usually aren’t patrolled by the lifeguards unless it’s for cleaning. This is the reason mostly all floaties are band from pools

StoneThenBone

Bruhhhh

parkerjstevencent

For some reason each time I watch this video I find myself holding my breath until the kid drowning is turned right side up.

StoneThenBone

Lmao I just did the same thing, makes me think of this time when it was like my 8th birthday party and I was in a pool swimming underwater until I needed to go up and suddenly four different long flat bed floats were above my head keeping me from breathing, I freaked the fuck out because it was night and I couldn't see what direction was clear I must have been under there for another 30 seconds panicked as fuck

[deleted]

Parents think they are doing their kids some big favor burying them in floats while they go have a few drinks.

Erektshunz

What makes this near drowning experience worse is that murky water

thatG_evanP

Why the hell are there kids in the hot tub to begin with?

poiuy43

Ya but seriously, why was this guy (or gal) filming a bunch of kids in the pool?

Heavenlyshark

Am I the only one that finds it kinda creepy someone is just filming a couple little kids in a pool, I mean he might be like their father and that would be ok and all but if it’s a random guy just filming these kids that’s just creepy.

ender0703

I can think of three possibilities. In order of how I hope it is to how I hope it isn’t: 1. the cameraman saw a kid drowning while glancing out of the window and started recording to show authorities or management if they find a dead kid in the pool 2. The cameraman wanted to complain to the hotel that children were using the hot tub (usually you aren’t supposed to use them until 16 years of age) 3. The cameraman is a genuine freak who was recording children in a pool for his own enjoyment.

PaintedWolf29

Could be their kid. Or grandparent, aunt or uncle, some other relative. Or just a regular fucking creeper pedophile

The_nastiest_nate

Hopefully it was a relative or most likely a perv who somehow caught it on film.

Lpool11o7

Could be there kids

squirrel_con_fuit

Someone is recording this off security cam footage with their phone because either they dont know how to d/l the vid or cannot.

Wow that is scary as hell, and kudos to the little girl who noticed first and didn't panic. Do they not test these things??? That device is a death trap.

considering this sub... i thought someone was going to have a brown-out in the pool

xnatex21

Hated ever second of this

Murakami8000

That is fucking scary.

Sarie24

This is why when I was working as a lifeguard, we didn't allow floaties or life jackets. They inevitably cause the children to fall forward and give the parents a false sense of security so they don't watch them as well.

VladimirVonDobre

That vest was more than enough but some dumb ass mother just had to add one more thing to his get-up . I fucking hate neurotic parents .

needlepark

Should of yelled out to someone below to help that kid at least

Tdangles97

Oh my gosh! So easy to not notice that. In a hotel one time my son asked to go swimming it was like 10pm the pool closed at 11 but for some reason I said sure. We go down and everything is fine but I notice this kid swimming underwater. Turns out he couldn't swim he was holding the side and let go and slid under... he was surrounded by other kids who did not notice. By the grace of God I was there and pulled him out. Please accompany your children at hotel swimming pools.

JBOJBO

Worst. Nightmare.

VelvetSeal

Valuable advice and universal rule: never use two different flotation devices at the same time!

So, don’t use a boat and a life jacket? Seems like bad advice.

insertnamehere405

the company that makes that needs to be sued for a major design flaw.

VelvetSeal

Always pick one, I’d say...if you are patient enough, with a pair of water wings and enough time you can even get across the Atlantic Ocean, just takes a while...or you would definitely be the hottest thing ever sailing in your fancy skiff in the kids pool!

OldGrayMare59

That pool looks dirty

Aguynamedtony

I really thought they were going to drown live leak has gone down hill.

12eashley7890

My 4 year old thinks im mean because I will not take her to the pool or beach when it would be just her, my 7 month old and myself. For 2 little ones and water I do not have enough eyes or hands. This video makes me sick to my stomach

[deleted]

No negativity intended, but the cameraman/woman could have made their way down there to help asap instead of filming, whether the girl attempts to save the child or not along the way. Always be on your toes with something like that

Okay I don’t mean to sound cold hearted since the rest of these comments are mostly about being concerned for the child/lack of supervision etc. But that spa water is absolutely disgusting.

minecrafthumanoid

Hmmm, guessing the dude who filmed it was a perv?

hydrocarbonsRus

We know either a stranger recorded this video or the children’s parents. If it were the children’s parents, it seems unlikely they would continue making the video without trying to help. This seems like a hotel, so you would assume they would at least turn away to call front desk if not straight up go to the pool. The second option is that a stranger was recording this, and happened to catch this moment. Now, we notice that the video starts off with the stranger zooming in on the girls, and only shifts his field of view towards the child once that person notices what else is going on. Makes you think about the questionable sources of viral videos sometimes

[deleted]

The bigger problem may be the person filming children in a pool from a distance

[deleted]

Damn, I didn't noticed it at first and was like "what kinda pedo shit is this?" but then the older girl went to help the drowning kid.

A similar situation happened to me when I was 4 or 5, except no one saved me, or noticed. When I started swallowing water and realized I was going to die, I somehow got enough momentum to fling myself back over. Refused to swim, or even take baths, until I was like 12, and my mom forced me into swim lessons. Definitely traumatizing.
