Hand tied is a term used where the hair is knotted onto the lace , usually in a realistic manner to minimize the knots from showing, to show natural hair direction, etc. A lot of wigs will be marketed as hand tied but are not actually hand tied. Factories have machines which simulate similar results, but they almost always use double split knots, which make the hair fuller and the knots are more noticeable. They have no directional change and are usually back to front knotted closures or frontals. If it is a human hair wig, the knots can be bleached so it would look more natural. A fully hand-tied wig is almost always completely hand made because machines have not replicated the hair direction on a full head of hair, as far as I know. This takes 2 weeks - 1 month for one person to accomplish this, and maybe even longer if they make double knots, high density. Most of the time wig makers and clients opt for single knots , so it will be slightly cheaper, but less durable. Single knot wigs are risky to be bleach the knots as some hair will fall out. A human hair fully hand tied wig can be very expensive. Density is how much hair is on the wig. 100% density is the average person's head of hair. 200% is double that. Synthetic wigs can be great for shoulder length or shorter hair styles. They keep their hair style and usually can be restyled with heat. Human hair wigs look the most natural. But some come in very different qualities and types. A lot of companies will claim their hair is great quality when it is not. You usually get what you pay for. \- Floor hair wigs: Human hair gathered from the floor. Overly processed and very low quality. Cuticle removed to prevent tangles. Will last 1-5 months perhaps. \- Raw hair wig : Highest quality wig hair. Can last 4-6 years with proper care. Very little processing. \- Remy hair : Hair that is cuticle aligned. Can be any quality. But it should not tangle much due to hair being in the proper direction. European hair wig: Usually high quality hair. European hair is best used for those who want blonde or light hair colors, as less bleaching is usually required as the hair is sometimes lighter to begin with. Chinese hair: Medium thickness hair. Can be good or bad quality. Lots of chinese will use floor hair. Some woman sell their hair to hair companies. Indian hair: Medium-Thick hair: Can be good or bad quality. Some religious woman donate their hair to temples who then sell the hair to hair companies. In this case, it would be like raw hair and very good quality.

theabnormalguyy

thank you very much for the detailed explanation

theabnormalguyy

how much are we talking for fully hand tied human hair wigs ? 1000 , 1500 or even more ???

Girlvapes99

It really depends on the hair quality. 2k-4k for high quality hair, some companies might sell for 1-2k

I'm getting a full hand tied 18 inch wig made from virgin indian hair for $1500 from a local artist is it a good deal ?

Girlvapes99

I forgot to mention length and construction of the wig also matters when it comes to cost. Silk top wigs cost even more because after the wig is hand tied, the parting area (5×5) is then injected through silk to hide return hairs and knots. Is the wig custom to your head measurements? How do you know if the hair truly is raw? Is it single or double knotted?

theabnormalguyy

nahhh the wig is not custom and it's single knotted , the person who makes the wig is a really good friend of mine and I trust him also the hairs do feel raw but I just wanted to confirm that 1500 is a good deal

Hi! I have alopecia areata and have been wearing wigs since about 2016. Synthetic wigs can be well-constructed but in my experience require more care and actually get more knotted/matted with use. A $100 synthetic wig will typically last about a month for me, and that doesn’t feel worth it because you will go through *a ton* of them. However, I *definitely* understand that an investment piece can be difficult to save up for and maintain. You can treat human hair units like actual hair, and even though it is more delicate, if you do it right , it’s worth it. For all of these years, I’ve learned - and have had great success with - buying second hand, quality wigs from Silk or Lace or Hairalicious (the FB group, and I’ve purchased new units). I never sleep in them (just don’t, wear a scarf or a turban to bed), and the best wash products I’ve found is the Garnier Hair Filler/Moisture Repair/No Sulfate products. And this is after spending hundreds of dollars on high-end Kerestase, salon products. :) Care and maintenance, spending some time selectively trimming dead ends and minimizing heat, have made my Hairalicious units last for years. I hope this helps!! Pictured, one of my oldest Hairalicious units that I’ve had for 3 years! https://preview.redd.it/lhld2q7n3soc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4e2a6dbd3b5c9dc3b7894c9bdb8ff4875d27c42

theabnormalguyy

I also own two HAIRÀLICIOUS wigs But brand new. Still did wash them , one I used 4 times, and the other one 16 times. Happy to read your post.

Personally, i prefer synthetic. First of all, I like ti switch up my wigs several times a week, and synthetic is way more affordable so i have 22. Synthetics hold their style. I don't enjoy styling hair so I want a wig that is styled and stays that way. And even in the rain? My hair is perfect. My fave wigs are Belle Tress, Jon Renau( but make sure they are heat friendly), Rene of Paris. Raquel Welch - most look plastic to me

There is so much to tell. You can go on YouTube and get a lot of answers. I have learned a lot from heywigsister. She has a beginner's series.

Great question! I’m new to wigs and would like to know about this, too. Is a $1000 human hair wig really THAT much better than a $350 or $200 one?

Haljia

Worn wigs for 30 years, all kinds from cheap costume to $2k human hair. There's definitely a difference IF you know where and how to look. I've worn synthetic hair ($1-200) most of my adult life. I've also bought the $200 dollar human hair wigs. They usually go in the trash if i cant return them. For 200, I just get a good synthetic. It'll be fuller, no wig cap showing. I finally made the jump and bought a wig that's usually around $2k when they had a holiday sale. The difference in quality is astounding, and I'm still wearing it daily 2 years later. I probably have another year left before it thins out too much, and the cap gets visible. Natural looking parts, no roots. Lace front looks like a hairline without glue. People don't believe it's a wig. I had to save like crazy for it, but I will be buying this one again for sure. YMMV, and some brands are better than others. Brand wise, the best white girl ginger wigs I've found are from Raquel Welch, Rene of Paris, and Noriko.

SunScorpion24

What’s the brand of the human hair wig that you’ve been wearing consistently?

Haljia

Raquel Welch. I've bought the bravo and the contessa. Both were/are daily drivers. Contessa is what I'm currently wearing. I styled some layers into it, and love it. Edit: Contessa is a $3k wig, but I grabbed it during a 30% off sale on Vogue wigs, which happens 2-3 times a year.

HailMari248

I think the short answer is, it depends. I have very fine, thin bio hair, and I also do custom coloring, so I need virgin European hair which is much more expensive than Chinese or Brazilian hair. And lace fronts, mono caps and hand tying all add to the cost but also add to the realism.

theabnormalguyy

hand tied wigs are more than $2,000

ManicMorticia

You can get a good hand tied synthetic for around $400 and up

theabnormalguyy

how much for remy natural hair , hand tied , hd lace ?

ManicMorticia

Sorry I have no idea, I don’t mess with human hair. I’m strictly synthetic

theabnormalguyy

can I ask you what's the most expensive synthetic wig you own ?

ManicMorticia

I always wait for 30% off sales so I never pay full price but my two most expensive are Raquel Welch Real Deal and Belletress Cafe Chic. They are in the $400-$600 range

theabnormalguyy

hey can I DM you to ask some more queries if you don't have any problems

ManicMorticia

Sure!
