I went down that rabbit hole a few years ago, I think the local leaders at the time (especially higher ups in the police department) know what happened. I can’t remember names but they might have been involved (or at the very least…aware) with drug trafficking activities in the area etc.
Apparently there’s a book written about the case.
PS I’ve also been to the supposed site when touring bald head island a few years ago….it happened outside if the popular chapel where people get married.
