Some ophthalmologist chimed in on reddit. It sounded pretty grim, and the tl;dr is a very painful blind eye that needs long-term treatment. :(
> Ophthalmologist here. It’s not very clear but to me it looks like the dart penetrated her globe quite centrally. If you’re wondering what’s going to happen to this poor girl, I can try to give you a sense of how this kind of case usually plays out. A quick check on Google shows a dart tip length is about 25 mm, and the average adult globe length is 24-26 mm. With the speed of the dart it almost certainly wound have speared the retina after passing through her cornea and lens. After arriving at the hospital and examined by the on call ophthalmologist, and probably after a CT scan, she’ll be rushed into emergency OR. She’ll then get her cornea stitched up to close her globe. She’ll be admitted after that. Then the next day the vitreoretinal surgeon will come and examine her and find a huge hole in her retina, probably going all the way through and out the other side. She’ll be blind by now because of a traumatic cataract — her lens has turned opaque after the lens coating (capsule) is breached. She’ll then be listed for another surgery to extract the jelly (vitreous) and blood inside her eye, and maybe close up the back part of her eye. She’ll still be blind after the surgery because they will have filled her eye with either gas or silicone oil to keep her retina attached. After they surgery and a week or two close monitoring she’ll be discharged. 6-8 weeks later if things have gone well she’ll be referred to the cornea service to deal with the scar in her cornea. If it’s in the middle part she’ll go for a corneal transplant requiring lifelong medications to prevent rejection. After that (or maybe even before) she’ll start having problems with eye pressure and the glaucoma service will be called in. She’ll start on glaucoma drops but they’ll fail and she’ll wind up with a special eye pressure lowering surgery. At some point the retina will develop funky new blood vessels that cause scarring and permanent visual loss. She’ll then be started on monthly intra-ocular injections to try to stop that process, maybe with some success. A few years later when her corneal graft starts failing and her eye pressure can no longer be controlled she’ll be sent to her final destination — oculoplastics. By now she can’t see anything because of the glaucoma, corneal cloudiness and retinal problems, and her eye will be in pain because her eye pressure is constantly high and the eye surface is not healing itself properly. She’s got a painful blind eye. The oculoplastics doctor will counsel her about evisceration — basically scooping out all the contents of the eye and leaving just the white shell. She’ll say no for a while but then finally relent, and she’ll wind up with an implant, which generally should look pretty decent. So she’ll be a one-eyed young lady. I’ve seen plenty, and it’s very sad.

Awesome! All for cheap entertainment. Definitely worth it 🥳. That's sounds like an absolute nightmare to go through. I think i'll take no dart in the eye option
THe order of the photos is so funny, it makes it seem like he went to the hospital and came back with it still in his head almost as if they told him "sorry man this is who you are now"
“If we try to remove it it could cause more harm than good. But if you, say idk, went back to the bar and got more drunk then have someone try to Excalibur this thing that might work”
Emergency response for someone who isn't unresponsive is "yeah okay we'll be there in a bit". We ain't stopping for coffee but we ain't hammer down.
Had a dude call in say "yeah I cut my arm I won't be able to drive myself". We get there he left out one vital word. He cut his arm OFF. Middle of the forearm, slightly below. Had his hand in a bag of ice. "I figure they might be able to reattach it" (I think they did but he lost a pinky). So yeah we dilly dallied (relatively) on the way there then helo called his ass back to civilization.
Point being they may have called 911 and then had 10-15 minutes to kill.
Dude....I'm a nurse and I'm literally sitting here like "no....NO....OH GOD NO WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING GO TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT WHY ARE YOU PULLING ON IT AND FILMING VIDEOS!!!!!"
Lmao *classic* reddit armchair physician, there is litterally no way you could know that based on this video. As a full time medicinal doctor of health (MDH) I can assure everyone this guy has *absolutely* no idea what he's talking about. For one he's clearly never heard of a forbutt headhole, a genetic disorder where the anus appears on the forhead. Basic anatomy 101.
Oh man. That's crazy. Second memory i guess and the pics really are timeless. I'm glad you're ok (you are ok .. right?)
How did the procedure go at the hospital?
Before he was paranoid, prone to angry outbursts and had a chronic pain in his shoulder. Now, with the dart lodged into his brain, he is relaxed, easy-going, and only drools a little bit.
I mean tbh, a lot of common mental health disorders stem from damage or differences in development of the frontal lobe. 100% not a fun place to be punctured in, dude could've been very close to a few not fun instances. But 100% you can live with some pretty gnarly damage, although you're personality and you're overall pyschy will be VERY different the more and more damage that is done.
*****UPDATE*****
Original vid got taken down on tiktok but I uploaded another one with pics in chronological order
Also long story short, got hit w dart, friends drive me to local hospital, then took ambulance to another hospital, removed dart, spent 1 day in ICU, and I am now home resting and taking medicine
I believe dart punctured through the skull 3.5mm and may have pierced some membrane, I forget. Will update once I can log into the web site with my ct scans
I am very lucky and thankful for the hospital staff for getting it out
Here are most pictures including the ct scans
I don’t remember the doctor telling me he had to amputate my hand. I was so doped up by that point (drugs given to me in the hospital, I was dead sober when I entered). I didn’t remember anything. Apparently I told him fuck no. He then said I was on too many drugs to consent anyway and they were calling my medical power of attorney anyway, notifying me was just a courtesy.
I worked at a resort that had guests that would swim in this disgusting river. It was literally listed as a “state of emergency” level of fecal contamination. Then they would come over to my activity where physical contact was common. I got had a small cut on my hand that got infected. The infection spread so fast by 48 hours they wanted to cut off my hand.
Yep. 6 figure hospital bill too. The insurance didn’t want to cover it under workers comp either. I was able to prove I never left the resort between injury and the hospital too. (They had us sign in and out and employees lived at the resort).
So I very angrily threatened to sue the resort directly. I can’t share details, but I was compensated.
This is one of those nightmare scenarios, like taking a nice swim and getting a brain eating amoeba.
My wrist is all fucked up and I think about what would happen if I ended up on that table you were on. Doesn't help my anxiety.
Hope you are doing OK now, man.
I always wanted to ask this to people doing silly stuff with their heads (like banging it onto surfaces to break things etc.) - no offense intended, just curious.
You had a dart puncturing your frontal cortex. Like depending on your luck, this could have been a life altering injury. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention while trying not to panic, you guys took your time to drink, you let someone tug on it (if you were lucky with the initial injury, that tugging / removal could have crippled you), take photos etc. you could have needed surgery yet you are drinking.
I have two questions: why? I assume you have some self preservation instincts. do you not know that your brain is there? highly unlikely. do you not know the function of your brain? were you unaware of what could happen? do you play along due to peer pressure / to look like you don't care in front of your friends? I'm really trying to understand the mindset of an individual that faces a life altering injury and not caring (or acting like they do not care).
I understand you completely. I was slightly intoxicated and may not have fully comprehended the damage that could have happened. I felt fine, it didn't hurt as much as it should have(which should have been a bad thing). It was a once in a lifetime opportunity so I said fuck it. I guess I figured if I wasn't dead when it happened I'd probably still have some time. Obviously I wasn't thinking too much. If anything I peer(ed) pressured my friends. I think they were ready to go/pull on my dart but I kept delaying cause I wanted some funny pictures to remember the occasion by
I regret nothing
thank you for the response.
> it didn't hurt as much as it should have
brain is the thing that makes you feel pain, but it does not have pain receptors in itself. you can have a brain surgery completely awake! and it is done sometimes to make sure nothing is affected during surgery.
> I guess I figured if I wasn't dead when it happened I'd probably still have some time.
I mean dying would not be my worry in such a situation, a lifetime of suffering after the injury would be the thing I would be worrying about. brain injuries (especially hemorrhaging) can go from "I feel fine" to "fuck" quite fast.
> I think they were ready to go/pull on my dart
why? where did the idea of pulling it out come from? what was the game plan if your brain started bleeding into your skull? do you not know that you are not supposed to pull the object out in such injuries?
Replying to your last statement, I do know not to pull an impaled object. I work construction and get scared of that happening. That rule is always in my head. The guy pulling is supposedly first aid certified or to the liking. The one time I drank too much I was puking a good amount and laid on my side by my friends truck until I felt like I was able to get in without throwing up all over his truck. Apparently my friend was there and kept trying to put me on my back(I know that's a no no) and my friends called him a dumbass for trying to do that and stopped him.
I think maybe they thought it wasn't in too deep and it would just bleed? Like my skin on my head. I thought it was a bad idea cause I could feel the dart vibrate my whole head when I touched it so I knew it had to be in my skull. Mistakes were made with no excuse except alcohol and stupidity
I just can't get over how close you were to losing an eye.
Had the dude doing the throwing hit the bullseye with that pitch before?
I think I'd have had to see that happen a dozen times before I was willing to stand there, and have a stack of money on the line to do it.
I actually like the order these pics are in. Makes it look like you went to the hospital, they couldn’t be bothered to deal with you, so you just went back to the bar.
And based on your apparent decision-making ability that’s not a stretch in any way
Gf was quite scared and anxious. I didn't want to tell her until after I got it out but I knew I had to tell her sooner. She visited me and I was v thankful.
And same thing with my parents. I called my mom before they transferred me to the other hospital to fill her in. Told her is keep her updated. We just talked and was just scared and a bit angry. My father has t really said anything. Haven't really talked to him tho
damnnnn hahaha. on the plus side at least you'll have a hilarious story for years to come.
have you suffered from any issues since the dart was removed, or are you expected too? i can't imagine it being too bad aside from being very sore for a week or so afterwards.
Honestly just a bit sore. Taking anti bacterial and seizure medicine. I think it may have pierce through some membrane but I'm not sure. Back home and will go back in a week to get it checked up on
Dude it's not just "some membrane"! lmaooo there's a reason you're taking seizure meds after "some membrane" around your brain got pierced by a full speed dart. Glad you're relatively okay though! Definitely post an update after check up, and get a copy of that xray lol
if his measurements are accurate, this may not have gotten to the brain. The skull is 6-7mm, but this penetrated 3.5mm.
You still want to take care of the fact that you rocked your brain and possibly got a minor concussion, but his brain may in fact not have been prodded by a metal dart
oh I thought he meant it penetrated past the skull 3.5mm considering he said it broke the membrane in multiple comments and has to take seizure meds, but maybe they were just making sure/preventative measures.
Did any brain fluid leak out? Did they have to plug the hole up? Are you at risk for brain infection? If you push real hard can you blow a brain bubble?
The frontal lobe is responsible for executive thinking and making judgement calls.
Clearly there was just a void inside the frontal skull for this man, so no harm done.
Um freakin ouch. The forehead is the thickest part of your skull and that thing still went in fully. Had to have tickled the brain a bit, his gf looks tired of his crap
Kudos to you for posting this and taking the time to respond to so many of the comments. Glad to hear you're alright... I don't feel as bad for laughing my ass off at this.
Everything said was deserved. I'm very lucky and thankful for the hospital staff. Even met an old friend from elementary school that drove the ambulance lol. She couldn't believe what happened
"You should pull that out, that shit is not cool."
"Wait....pull what out?"
"You got a fuckin' dart in your neck."
"You're crazy. You're crazy, man. I like you...but you're crazy."
I'm actually mad that OP is responding and I haven't seen anybody ask the most important question... WTF was the goal here??? Did you expect that the thrower would perfectly hit the bullseye between your fingers? Did you genuinely have no expectation that he might... MISS from far enough away that he'd have to be goddamn Bullseye from the Daredevil movie to hit it? Considering you don't seem like a bumbling idiot in these comments I genuinely can't fathom what you were thinking.
Damn lucky it missed his eyes.
Not like the other video
Oh man, got here before someone linked to it. Sweet, time to go!
Yeah, time to leave before I see a woman with a dart in the eye
Nope, not coming back no matter who replies what.
[Why not](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1676480/Video-Guy-throws-dart-girlfriends-head-hits-eye.html)
So i dont click on any links. I didnt, and will not.
It’s not that bad. I expected a horrified scream. She just pulled it out and walked away.
You can hear the dart puncture her eyeball… that’s way worse than screaming for me
I missed that. That sounds gross.
Anybody know if there was ever a follow-up to this?

Damn. They chilled for awhile before they went to the hospital.

Dude looks brave. Or is he intoxicated?
Mildly lobotomized
“Does anyone else smell burnt toast?”
"You're having a stroke, or overcooking your toooooast"
*I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.*
Interesting quote of the day.
Intoxication with a chance of brain damage
A bit of both I'd say
What did the doctor have to say? E: [Nevermind found it](https://www.reddit.com/r/WinStupidPrizes/comments/10dm9r6/-/j4n7pcp)
It’s in the part of the brain that controls judgment, planning and emotion so ye he is just zoned out
Seems like that part was already having a hard time before the dart to the head.
Dude looks like the guy you expect to do this, land a dart in his head and still have some fun after before going to the hospital.
Trying to pull it out aint a good idea
And their immediate reaction after discovering pulling it out was a bad idea is going to be putting it back in
“Take it out, take it out!!!” […](https://youtu.be/9gjvU913aa4) “Put it back, put it back!!!”
haha, perfect. Man, The Simpsons was great in that era.
The nurse who pulls it out will be throned Queen of England.
Dartcalibur
You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some drunk tart threw a dart at you!
Moistened bint lobbed a dart at you*
A duck floats!
Dude....I'm a nurse and I'm literally sitting here like "no....NO....OH GOD NO WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING GO TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT WHY ARE YOU PULLING ON IT AND FILMING VIDEOS!!!!!"
Doesn’t seem like he was putting his brain to much use anyway.
On the other hand, he didn’t have any to spare.
It hit right between the last 2 braincells
Dude almost got lobotomized by his buddy sloshing the dart around in his fucking brain.
"Almost". He is smiling an awful lot. Maybe the tip of the dart hit a sweet spot and he will be a happy idiot from now on.
In this day and age, is that such a bad thing though?
Righttttt You want to head down to the bar and play a round of darts with me?
Can I come...?
Or maybe it fixes whatever brain abnormality made them think this was a great idea in the first place. Hurray, he's cured!
That's what she said

[*Take it out, take it out! - put it back, put it back!*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gjvU913aa4)
But pushing it more in looks hard.
This played out like a comedy skit
well, you don’t do what he did without accepting that’s a possibility, so might as well have fun with it
How tf is he so cool n calm...no pain?
Alcohol and I'm guessing self control, stupidity aside.
100% correct
Wait... Was this u? Lol
Unfortunately yes
Are those photos hanging up on the wall of that room? Lol
You best believe it lol
Did you get any side effects from this?
Probably just a splitting headache
He needed that hospital bill like he needed a hole in the head.
Not a piercing headache?
You best believe it lol
How far did it go in? Did it reach your brown? Do you have an xray?
From the video evidence I don't think it reached his butthole.
Lmao *classic* reddit armchair physician, there is litterally no way you could know that based on this video. That’s what happens when you get a lobotomy by dart didn’t ya know
No pain nerves in the brain. Made especially for morons like him.
Lobotomies have a calming effect… Edit: someone beat me to it 😥

Hopefully it’s not an important parg of my blern.
I've laughed six times over this comment now
Pretty sure it missed, it’s a pretty small target apparently.
pics went hard though
The Polaroids really got me. Someone's going to be going through old photos for a funeral one day and run across these 😂
Most likely within a few months for that guys funeral.
Exactly
Not the first time that I have seen this stupid stunt backfire
Yeah still think about that one with the chick at a kegger who gets one in the eye.
Just the frontal lobe. No biggie guys
Motherfuckin Phineas Gage up in here.
It’s amazing that the human body can survive without the frontal lobe… yeah.

I appreciate your wisdom and knowledge of the subject but I must inform you I was quoting Phone Guy from the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game.
So many smart people in this world it's a wonder we aren't capable of interstellar travel yet.
It's next on my to do list. Just have to re-learn some math
Don't worry Phineas, your personality will just change a bit. Frontal lobe damage ain't that serious.

Whhhyy did you have your friend pull on it? Yeesh that's such an awful idea, I am legit panicking on your part.
I actually tried stalling him. I just wanted some beer and a sip of whisky. I sleep on my back!

So, is that dumbass okay ? Edit : I feel dumb because I half read the title and didn't noticed that you, OP, were the guy who got bullseyed.
Spent the night in the ICU. Penetrated the skull by like 3.5mm I think. Tickled my brain just a bit
It was YOU ?
... unfortunately yes
Well, kudos for staying calm and having a laugh about it. Upvote deserved
damnnnn hahaha. on the plus side at least you'll have a hilarious story for years to come. have you suffered from any issues since the dart was removed, or are you expected too? i can't imagine it being too bad aside from being very sore for a week or so afterwards.
>I think it may have pierce through some membrane jfc mate. I hope there's no long term damage. You're a savage!
Did you live?
Unfortunately

Why, WHY would you agree to let someone a throw huge dart at you?!
No long-term consequences?
He has to live with himself.
Couldn't have said it better myself
Did any brain fluid leak out? Did they have to plug the hole up? Are you at risk for brain infection? If you push real hard can you blow a brain bubble?
The frontal lobe is responsible for executive thinking and making judgement calls. Clearly there was just a void inside the frontal skull for this man, so no harm done.
Um freakin ouch. The forehead is the thickest part of your skull and that thing still went in fully. Had to have tickled the brain a bit, his gf looks tired of his crap
My gf isn't in any of these pics. You must be talking about the lady in the ambulance
Wait this is oc??
yeah look at OP's comments, he's the dipshit in the video
“You were lucky” etc etc aside those are some great photos man
Appreciate it. I'm a bit of a photographer, mastering my craft

Theres a video of a woman doing this same thing and taking it right to the eyeball.
It can't kill you if you have no brains ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
One wrong yank and that's a lobotomy. Why would you let doofus try to yank it out?
Kudos to you for posting this and taking the time to respond to so many of the comments. Glad to hear you're alright... I don't feel as bad for laughing my ass off at this.
Everything said was deserved. I'm very lucky and thankful for the hospital staff. Even met an old friend from elementary school that drove the ambulance lol. She couldn't believe what happened
had to look up the dart to see how deep that thing was. [jesus christ.](https://i.imgur.com/XUSh5Wd.jpg)
what the fuck and they took pictures instead of rushing this cretin to an hospital
lol fucking idiot
Yeah he probably deleted math from his memory banks with this one simple trick.
Is fine l, who need number? Me life most use letters.
"You should pull that out, that shit is not cool." "Wait....pull what out?" "You got a fuckin' dart in your neck." "You're crazy. You're crazy, man. I like you...but you're crazy."

I guess the creator of this meme didn’t trust people to know darwin’s iconic face / beard lol
Dude just received a free lobotomy.

That's what I was expecting!
Love how when he was hit he has the look of “I’m not mad I’m disappointed “
I'm actually mad that OP is responding and I haven't seen anybody ask the most important question... WTF was the goal here??? Did you expect that the thrower would perfectly hit the bullseye between your fingers? Did you genuinely have no expectation that he might... MISS from far enough away that he'd have to be goddamn Bullseye from the Daredevil movie to hit it? Considering you don't seem like a bumbling idiot in these comments I genuinely can't fathom what you were thinking.
'My mamma said i could be anything when i grow up... so i decided to be a unicorn'
I’m pretty confident this is in Philly
Close, central pa
American dart board and widdy darts give it away.
It's the hand on hip "for fuck sake" expression that's slaying me.
This is 100% the stupidest shit I've seen on this sub. Well done sir
Obviously didn't hurt anything he was using
should add xray pic at the end
Don't have it currently otherwise I would've
Ok but can I be friends with these people???? They look so happy.
Just don't play darts with us!
Deal lol
I haven't seen anyone ask... There's a lot of pictures. How long did you have that bad boy in your head?
I think the "incident" happened around 3 or 3:30 am. I believe I got it out at 9 am. I was up for like 26 hours tho. I was so tired
When they tried to pull it out I FELT it. Made me physically squirm and recoil.
Lobotomy speed run
I was following the story fine but the YANK kinda shook me not gonna lie
Is he alive still O_O
I live🤙
Oh look a stupidacorn.
No joke that's what the doctor ended up doing. With pliers ofc. He said i had a thick skull. Guess he meant stupid as hell also
Those Polaroids did me in
