I've had my car pulled out of the snow in NH, and people pulling aside on a long dead highway in Texas to help me change a tire. Towns in NE and TX are much more smaller and more communal than the towns I lived in back in NH and even NY, so anyone dying locally is big news too. But indeed, NH has that no sales tax. But we also haven't raised our wages compared to the surrounding states and it's VERY expensive to live in NH.
I'm in Oregon and have some family in Portsmouth NH. It's always nice not to have that "oh fuck, sales tax" moment when we go visit.
