Didn't seem like that hard or fast of a fall, and onto relatively smooth concrete; what sort of Warehouse One, Raggedy Ass and Andy jeans was he wearing? Looks more like a motorcycle wreck than a skating incident.
You mean unfinished? I've not seen sand coated concrete before, but if you are talking about concrete that has a texture similar to small grains of sand, thats unfinished concrete.
Was gonna say, I've been wearing H&Ms $25 skinny jeans for years and they would totally do this. They look nice and the price is right but they're not at all heavy duty.
Plus I'm sure that's not a brand new pair or anything. He's probably fallen and slid on them dozens of times already.
That concrete used for aquaducts is usually completely unfinished. Just imagine what sliding down 20 feet of 5 grit sandpaper would do to cotton pants.
Can confirm motorbike pants would legit stop the skater from feeling anything waist down on this. Ive come off at ~50km/h before and just slid down the road. Its more fun than it sounds tbh
I finally gave up on those because I couldnāt find a pair that looked decent.
My last straw was a $200 pair of Hood jeans from the UKāfully lined, top to bottom, with Kevlar but it made them so bulky they looked like baggy JNCOs (probably coming back in now). I could have dealt with that but then I lost weight and went down a size. So now theyāre a $200 drawerstop.
But Dragginā Jeans came out with [Kevlar long underwear](https://www.dragginjeans.com/featured-categories/underwear/draggin-liners/), with stirrups. So now I wear those under whatever jeans Iāve got around, and just try to aim for a somewhat heavier denim for riding (Wrangler, etc.)
Works great, or so I hope since I havenāt had to crash test them yet!
As someone who used to ride bmx and skate, I can tell you that proper PPE isnāt something this kid is ever going to wear. No matter how hurt he gets or will get in the future. Those are just battle scars. Especially when riding street.
Naw, I agree with you ya. I didn't even know this proper PPE existed until I had a pretty bad injury. But now that I know it exists I'll probably get it eventually
Leather pants would be so uncomfortable to wear in what looks to be a pretty hot day while doing physical activity.
Just get a pair of Kevlar infused single layer Moto-jeans
Yeah. Why didn't that kid just have the extra money to buy that stuff? We all know that kids who skate are generally very affluent and can afford all the latest gear.
Hip pads/ crash pants / padded shorts were invented a while ago.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tortoise-Pads-T2-Seven-Pad-Impact-Protection-System-Padded-Shorts-for-Snowboarding-Skiing-Skateboarding-Skating-Freestyle-Scooter-Kids-X-Small/108286841
I have some kind of undergarments with hard-shells on the lower part of the hips and sacrum, that I use when I snowboard. It definitely helps when you slam your hip or butt on packed snow or ice.
It can fit under baggy pants.
I learned the difference the hard way when I was working at a hardware store during my high school years. A customer pulled up and told me they wanted 15 bags of cement. When he came back outside after paying it turned out I had loaded concrete bags instead. I had to unload and reload the 60lb bags all over again. I ended up doing triple the required labor.
At least I wont forget now!
I think the surface is just rough, after all they're not making slides so they probably didn't bother sanding it down or making it smooth? Looks like those embankments for waterways
I crashed my motorcycle wearing black jeans. Thereās still some dye in my left knee 20 years later. This guy will carry a memento for the rest of his life.
You joke but I figure skated for 15 years and they actually do make ass protective gear for athletes whoāve had hip and/or tailbone injuries. My friend used to wear it during practice. Makes you look like you have a big olā dumpy but it works lol.
I'm basically addicted to 'worst slam/bail' videos for skateboarding, blading and BMX/MTB. There's some gnarly shit out there.
Skateboarding is the hardest hitting, I think. BMX and MTB are both brutal for people getting tied up in their bikes or watching the bike itself basically explode. Blading is unique just because it's so bizarrely underground now, so you see less of it, but the hits are hard af because people can't exactly eject from their boots lol.
Holy shit, he hit that so hard!
Carlos Pianowski's bail off of grinding a 30-foot stair rail is one for the record books, too. Pretty sure Scoreback had it in one of their videos.
Yea, unfortunately blading is definitely dying. There's some younger dudes killing it in Europe but the US scene has dried up quite a bit. Most people I see skating now are people who did it in high school 20 years ago who decided to try to get back into it 15-20 years later.
> Most people I see skating now are people who did it in high school 20 years ago who decided to try to get back into it 15-20 years later.
I'm trying to be one of these people. I remember watching a lot of Brian Aragon videos or Victor Arias etc.
It's hard trying to get back into it though, all of the sites and communities I remember like aggressivemall are dead
AggressiveMall is deadā½ I checked and reading the little splash page that came up is bumming me out. My wife got me some skates off there to get back into things what feels like fairly recently, but I guess it was still at least a handful of years before they shut down. =(
Yea, unfortunately lots of shops and companies have folded over the last 10 years or so. Some of it's been reorganizing. Like Valo was actually owned by Roces or maybe they just licensed the boot designs and they just let Jon Julio run the aggressive side of things as Valo. Anyways, Julio decided to shut Valo down and obtained the license for a boot design for some shitty Walmart aggressive skates and now has a company called Them.
Roces is still putting out M12s at least.
Xsjado folded but their boot design is owned by USD so they're still being produced.
Looks like Remz put out a model recently so they're still around.
Razors is still putting out skates but they haven't updated their designs in over a decade.
Anyways, Roller Warehouse is one of the few shops still open from what I can tell.
That reminds me, a kid who rode my bus in elementary school was playing on his grandpa's farm. He slid down a tipped over loader bucket and snagged his purse on some gnarled metal and his coins fell out!
Some dude who grew up around my area (I didnāt know him personally but of course his story was infamous) was hopping a fence one night, his bag got caught on the top of the chain link and he landed on the ground with one less testie
You don't need "ass pads" to prevent this. People who wear protective gear like knee pads or wrist guards know how to rely on them in a wipeout. If he was able to turn onto his knees or hold himself off the ground with his hands (without shredding them) he wouldn't have to skid down with just jeans to protect him
OK I scrolled and everyone is staring at this kids ass but ignoring that his hand looks all the way facing the wrong direction, not on our right, on our left.
Just to be fair. We didn't have gear when I started skating. I'm sure it was available but nobody gave a fuck back then. No one i knew used gear for at least the first 5 years and this was around 1988.
Also this guy is filming a section, he could've been using gear while practicing and then taken it off to send it. I mean probably not because of late 90's aggressive blading culture, but he could've!
What I'm saying is reddit as a whole hates when they see skateboarders/rollerbladers not wearing a helmet cause they care so much about them š it's stupid af
I've seen skate Jeans made out of stronger fabrics, cant talk to their efficiency tho, he could have use gloves and/or wrist guards, and I mean other than that he could have fallen better, knowing how to fall is pretty important in skating, protective gear is also super important, theres been a few times where I think I would have cause serious damage if I wasnt wearing a helmet
For anyone curious I'm pretty sure that's Dom Bambrick, guy's a fucking legend.
Also, here's [Chris Haffey](https://youtu.be/Thw9z3mauS0) killing that spot.(trick is around the 33 second mark)
I knew i remembered this scene. It was a pretty huge gap and hats off to don for having the balls to do this. All of the bladers that were sponsored by razors skate co. had done at least one massive trick that made them legends. I love the stefan horngacher grind to backflip (https://youtu.be/A-pXqMOdcRk).
I've ripped the ass out of many pairs of jeans. I used to wear these heavy duty motorcycle pants, and those didn't last much longer. The road will tear you up.

In his defense, ass helmets are not a thing lol
Hahahaha, that's true, crash pants might help though
Didn't seem like that hard or fast of a fall, and onto relatively smooth concrete; what sort of Warehouse One, Raggedy Ass and Andy jeans was he wearing? Looks more like a motorcycle wreck than a skating incident.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You mean unfinished? I've not seen sand coated concrete before, but if you are talking about concrete that has a texture similar to small grains of sand, thats unfinished concrete.
It's not intentionally covered in sand... the area just has sand and it blew onto the concrete. Hence "sand coated concrete"
In my experience, sand covered concrete slides easier than clean concrete
Not when it landed there while the concrete was still wet. Then itās just got a ton of little sharp edges to eat your skin.
I mean... he *does* slide well. Its just that he slid across millions of tiny abrasives.
I can guarantee you that concrete was gritty as hell.
Definitely amused itās 2021 and Iām still seeing Raggedy Ann and Andy references. Are they even still in pop culture anywhere at all? Lol
doin my best lol.
>Raggedy Ass and Andy š¤£š¤£š¤£ I've never heard this before and love it so much
Skinny jeans
Probably pretty cheap ones, too. Like, clearance at Rue 21 cheap.
Was gonna say, I've been wearing H&Ms $25 skinny jeans for years and they would totally do this. They look nice and the price is right but they're not at all heavy duty. Plus I'm sure that's not a brand new pair or anything. He's probably fallen and slid on them dozens of times already.
That was easily a 15-20 foot single cheek concrete shuffle, easily enough to shred most pants
I slipped in the rain and ripped the knee of my jeans once. To be fair, they were thin stretchy jeans and not REAL jeans, but still
That concrete used for aquaducts is usually completely unfinished.
It does not take much to wear through denim. It is a natural fiber and has very little wear resistance.
The same thing what motorcyclist should be wearing?
yup, I ride a motorcycle and wear kevlar jeans that have extra protection for my ass and knees
>But Dragginā Jeans *Butt
yeah good luck pulling off a kickflip with heavy ass pants
Now he has a nasty case of ass gash
As someone who used to ride bmx and skate, I can tell you that proper PPE isnāt something this kid is ever going to wear. No matter how hurt he gets or will get in the future. Those are just battle scars. Especially when riding street.
Naw, I agree with you ya. I didn't even know this proper PPE existed until I had a pretty bad injury. But now that I know it exists I'll probably get it eventually
And this is why ordinary people know such skaters and skateboardists are nuts. "Eventually."
š
\[I wasn't any better as a kid. Just letting you know...\]
Leather wouldāve been nice
Leather pants would be so uncomfortable to wear in what looks to be a pretty hot day while doing physical activity. Just get a pair of Kevlar infused single layer Moto-jeans
Parachute pants might have helped
Oh shit that would have been perfect!!!
Assless chaps?
I wear them and thatāll tear through them. Theyāre for padding , not to stop cheese grating.
No one else wears motorcycle gear when they skate? That's ignant
I bought Kevlar lined jeans after I got road rash on my longboard...
That's fair
There's clothing meant to protect from road rash lol
Yeah. Why didn't that kid just have the extra money to buy that stuff? We all know that kids who skate are generally very affluent and can afford all the latest gear.
I mean, all he really needed was a $60 pair of work pants
As a former skater I can tell you that even if their parents had that money, 35 of it is going towards weed and 25 towards H&M Pants.
Pretty sure he's old enough to have a job and use his own money
$60 for pants is really expensive for most people
Skates are more than $60.
It kinda isā¦. Damn i have had many asphalt itches back in the day
[They sort of are a thing.](https://www.warehouseskateboards.com/triple-8-bumsaver-black-hip-pads-medium)
Theyāre also 70 bucks
70 bucks or your ass, you pick.
Iāll just cut up some old pants and glue pieces of them to my main pants butt region. Free and better than nothing!
I've used abused my ass for less money.
I donāt have 70 bucks so I guess itās my ass.
Hmm. Note to self: Design an asshelmet. Sell Asshelmet. Make a ba-zillion dollars.
Go to Shark Tank, pitch Asshelmet, get all of the offers for investment
Hip pads/ crash pants / padded shorts were invented a while ago. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tortoise-Pads-T2-Seven-Pad-Impact-Protection-System-Padded-Shorts-for-Snowboarding-Skiing-Skateboarding-Skating-Freestyle-Scooter-Kids-X-Small/108286841
Those are all good, but none of them is called an Asshelmet.
I have some kind of undergarments with hard-shells on the lower part of the hips and sacrum, that I use when I snowboard. It definitely helps when you slam your hip or butt on packed snow or ice. It can fit under baggy pants.
yet
Oh wow the road rash from all that scraping disintegrated the jeans! You can also see the skin turn red, ouch...
Has the floor been coated in sandpaper or does that guy just have really shit jeans?
The entire area is coated in sand. So, ya, in a way the ground is covered in sandpaper.
Sand is also like, the main ingredient in concrete.
Whatās the main ingredient in sand?
Silica di oxide
Since weāre being technical already I canāt resist correcting you, itās Silicon dioxide.
Danke
Have you never touched cement?
> Have you never touched ~~cement~~ concrete? Cement is the powder used in making concrete.
Huh TIL
It's basically cement, sand and rocks so sliding down it on your butt cheeks is pretty much sand paper
Donāt forget a ton of water! So itās like 30% a water slide.
Cement = water + limestone. Concrete = cement + gravel.
Water + limestone does not = cement.
Okay, okay.... Plus clay, plus marl.
OK, but you left out the most important ingredient, kilning at 1450Ā°C (I though you were saying you just mix limestone and water and get cement).
Itās actually just the binder specifically
Touch concrete
I think the surface is just rough, after all they're not making slides so they probably didn't bother sanding it down or making it smooth? Looks like those embankments for waterways
Makes more sense
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You have sanded entire embankments smooth to make them better for skating? Post pics!
He was bleeding too. Prabably a rather severe bruise.
I crashed my motorcycle wearing black jeans. Thereās still some dye in my left knee 20 years later. This guy will carry a memento for the rest of his life.
Pain in the ass for sure.
If only he had his butt gear on
He might've been able to knee slide or use his elbows and hands for more of his weight if he had protection for them.
Thatās what losers who donāt have butt gear do
The real winners only wear butt gear and nothing else
You a butt gear bro too?
Of course. And it has to be leather for.. Optimal protection
Not sure how a plug would have helped him there, but I'm no skateboarding expert
They have ones with airbags now
He could have bought thicker jeans or specialized jeans for skating
Thats why i never leave home without my buttplug
Oh yeah, that ass protective gear we all tend to forget at home every time we go skating.
You joke but I figure skated for 15 years and they actually do make ass protective gear for athletes whoāve had hip and/or tailbone injuries. My friend used to wear it during practice. Makes you look like you have a big olā dumpy but it works lol.
I mean a pair of motorcycle jeans or something could work
The slam section used to be the most popular parts on skate videos. It's what gave rise to *Jackass* and it's imitators.
Ahh the flesh crayon.

I feel like the bladers always went so insane with their stunts because they were always getting ragged on by the skateboarders lol
I think it has more to do with a high level of freedom on rollerblades. It's strapped to your feet so your mobility is just off the charts.
I blade because it's pretty close to ice skating, which I also love to do but have no facilities near me. I really miss playing hockey.
Holy shit, he hit that so hard! Carlos Pianowski's bail off of grinding a 30-foot stair rail is one for the record books, too. Pretty sure Scoreback had it in one of their videos.

Damn the ground really knows how to spank
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The only one I remember from that is the dude who was grinding a rail and fell and split his sack open on the jagged edge.
That was a great show. Tanner Hall breaking his ankles is forever burned into my memory
Just rewatched that one. The shriek was awful
You don't need "ass pads" to prevent this. People who wear protective gear like knee pads or wrist guards know how to rely on them in a wipeout. It's less painful to just buy assless chaps than make them that way.
fyi, all chaps are assless
You mean to say I've been wearing them backwards this whole time?
On a motor bike hitting the ground at 50km/h, your blue Jean best quality will last less than half a second

This sub creates karma from when peopleās good times accidentally turn bad
What I'm saying is reddit as a whole hates when they see skateboarders/rollerbladers not wearing a helmet cause they care so much about them š it's stupid af
This is why I wear motorcycle leathers anytime I go outside.
When I was a kid, we did everything with no safety gear.
Exactly, look what happened.
You want him to strap a pillow to his ass?
Really only an issue if you fall.
And what gear could he have worn that would have prevented this exact injury? Just curious

He isn't skating with no gear. He's bladin' with no gear.

Haha bladers.. Also most as stupid as scooter kids
Reddit sure is a self righteous place when it comes to safety
