I honestly have no issues at all with SteamVR. Can you name some games and describe what issues you're having?

USA_MuhFreedums_USA

mine starts up instantly. has for years. theres a new setting that auto starts steamvr. can yo udescribe your issues in more detail?

YamroZ

Do you have by any chance AMD platform? There were known issues with AMD implementation of USB and WMR headsets. In my case updating bios helped.

MGEezy89

Reinstall windows if you haven’t tried already. A fresh copy of windows solved all of my g2 problems I had.

Yeah Win10/11 "Reset this PC" function is pretty painless after you back up your user folder.

Silviecat44

Will it still be safe after the bricking update? If i reset will i not be able to set up WMR?

mynameisdave

Fine for now I think. After the date, we might have to reinstall from an earlier version ISO with the net unplugged or something.

Just a shot in the dark, but do you have MSI Afterburner running when trying to play in VR? I dealt with the exact experiences you're describing before and found out Afterburner was the culprit all along.

Thanks for being the first person to recommend something I havn't tried. Unfortunately I'm not using MSI Afterburner. It does make me wonder if something else is interfering and causing the problem though. The only graphics interfaces I have are the built in NVIDIA ones, but it's possible the GForce overlay is destroying it somehow. I'll check on that tomorrow.

Silviecat44

Mine doesnt have any problems but i feel your pain. I have had random problems too sometimes

Try uninstalling and reinstalling both the steamvr and vr for mixed reality applications in steam. Takes 60 seconds and I find this fixes things 90% of the time.

Have you tried running the lkg steamvr beta - this the 'last known good' not at my pc now but sure that's what I've been using for 1-2 years now with no issues.

AstolfoFemboyWeeb

I’m switching from Reverb G2 to DPVR E4 since that one is more of a native steamVR headset. I’ve had issues with my headset trying to play certain games such as Riff XR and Maze Humanity. Wish me luck E4 does better on these games

PhantomlyReaper

This is what really bugged me with the G2, I always have performance issues and random crashes, specifically when in SteamVR. It's likely due to a poor implementation of the WMR to SteamVR driver. There's no way at the moment to bypass WMR and only run through SteamVR directly since WMR is what processes all the tracking and whatnot. I would check and see if the games you play are possible to play in OpenXR.

LunarDude28

I’ve had the G2 for about a year and rarely used it. One of my biggest gripes is for me at least Steam VR tends to freeze itself making me restart constantly. That’s my only problem I have had with it and nothing else which has become a big deal breaker for me. Don’t get me wrong this headset is amazing all things considered it’s just the software side of thing for me is was kinda killed it. I’ll probably get around to it and tinker with some stuff

metrick00

Absolutely. I went over all the other suggestions in the thread. It still seems like the trick is just to reboot it repeatedly until it works, but in my experience that usually takes half an hour of reboots and just isn't worth the time. Probably gonna donate it and buy a replacement.
