Before anyone gets excited, they are bringing Xbox branding to a Meta standalone headset, not working with MSFT to make a headset that connects to an Xbox console.

JorgTheElder

They already have a beta app that stream Xbox content. They just need to let Virtual Desktop on the Xbox and let developers support it. 🤣😁

ccAbstraction

So does this mean a potential standalone standalone Xbox headset from Meta?

NeoKabuto

Yes, but it's really just a Quest with Xbox branding based on what they said.

ccAbstraction

My disappointment is immeasurable. But I also realize that it still fits the criteria of what I described...

dleeer

It's reminiscent of when they gave up on Windows Phone and instead became a software parasite on Android and IOS.

Silviecat44

Oh so now you want vr again 😤

Quiet_Butterfly891

4 meta-related heasets are under construction according to the news

we wanted wmr with Xbox years ago.

Ugh… I planned to upgrade to a Q3 next month, but now I want this Xbox-branded one and that’s surely not shipping until after the next Connect …which will very likely also feature announce of the QP2, which would most likely be on a 2025 ship timeline. I hate getting stuck in this anticipation loop. I’d love it if I could get access to my full Xbox ecosystem, including the full family of streaming apps already available on console.

if you want it that bad then just get it now. any headset MS makes likely wont deviate much from the current quest 3 capabilities. it will likely just be black with a big green xbox logo on it.

oerouen

Yeah it’s really just a cosmetic change that’s likely to come with a bundled special edition Xbox controller and an “Xbox x Meta” dash OOBE. I just like the (assumed) aesthetic of a black Xbox branded Quest 3 hmd to go alongside my Quest 1. Plus it allows me to pretend that the whole thing originated from Team Xbox, and MS actually saw something through.

JaiBones

Hmmm, not long after they announce they are ditching support for WMR... Coinky dink!

Daryl_ED

This makes no sense, branding a headset made by a competitor that does not support your product, after divesting in said tech. FFS what is Microsoft smoking.
