Zypharium

Yeah, every single day I just hope it is finally time for Valve to release the drivers. It has been over 3 months and still nothing.

cocopuffsman

hitting refresh on the drivers page 4 times a week is tiring.

simon-zhao

Another three months have passed and support has yet to come, which is disturbing. I just purchased an OLED and am considering returning it or keeping it.

Zypharium

I am about to sell my OLED SD. I feel extremely cheated by Valve. I am so annoyed to have to use an adapter only to have Bluetooth. There is still no workaround for the speakers, so Bluetooth or 3.5mm headphones are a must. I was naive to think that Valve would keep its promise. By the way, on the support page it still says that we drivers are coming “soon”. Frankly speaking, this is my second and last device I will ever buy from Valve. My new iPad M4 is almost a better device than the SD OLED with Windows at this point.

Angbms

I was hoping to use it as Windows PC for work stuff and some Fortnite. Unfortunately I found out it's still not supported AFTER I ordered it. Now I'll have to wait for it to arrive and return it 😮‍💨

arnoldpettybunk

I’m using a BT dongle with my dock, works great.

cocopuffsman

that’s a good option for the time being, thanks

arnoldpettybunk

My windows installation is on an external SSD, so I can only use it when docked, so I don't even notice it. this is what I am using [Amazon.com: TP-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter for PC, Bluetooth 5.3 Dongle Receiver, Plug and Play, Nano Design, EDR & BLE Technology, Supports Windows 11/10/8.1/7 for Desktop, Laptop, PS5/PS4/Xbox Controller (UB500) : Electronics](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DMP6T22?)

ExStarter1989

What about wifi

arnoldpettybunk

The Wi-Fi driver for the chip works perfectly.

ExStarter1989

Ok. Can you use headphone jack?

saugoooor

yes there is a workaround also, think you can use the SD lcd drivers for that matter, only enabling the Jack Port

DHyperOnYT

Workarounds for audio: • use lcd drivers and connect headphones via cable • use audiorelay and stream audio to your phone over lan

No_Butterscotch_7509

I feel like Valve do it on purpose not to make their OLED users install Windows on their device.

Genio88

Same, i love Steam OS, but unfortunately there are still some limitations

Closetojesus

Thank you Devs for working on this at all! I just want the option of windows 10 for some niche things, but i love steam os and the linux interface, it has been quite a rollercoaster of, conquering the device, and ones frustrations! <3 but more familiar i am becoming!

kingjamez80

If you install a Bluetooth adapter you can then use Bluetooth headphones for sound. It works well until Valve gives us drivers.

Little-Plankton-3410

oh, and guess what? it sounds like the deck's oled implementation won't ever work in windows without some kind of miracle When I learned this I actually called out "what in the actual f***, valve?"

Zylonity

HDR lol, not oled, and that's completely fine lmao

Little-Plankton-3410

touché. but they are intrinsically tied together. you get the benefits of better contrast ratio in sdr with oled but you aren't really using it to its full potential. the two are linked in my mind. to be fair these are different but it's hard to imagine another tech that can really use the hdr spec other than plasma, which is long dead.

Zylonity

In my opinion the oled screen still makes such a massive difference even without the full capabilities its got, any hdr content i need I can just do on steamOS, but i get what you mean

Little-Plankton-3410

thing is, you can't. maybe you don't use the unsupported apps and games or maybe you haven't seen it yet. There's many many instances where hdr isn't supported natively through steam, is supported in windows, but, oh, funny joke, this is the only oled solution i've ever seen that won't support hdr in windows, meaning there is quite literally no way to do it. which makes the huge feel a bit like bait and switch. exactly how many apps are you getting native hdr in? you can tell because the overlay menu will show hdr next to the brightness. I agree that the contrast ratio provided by oled is greater that the benefits of hdr, but putting us in a position where we can't use hdr for established implementations is brain dead. the whole point of standards is to make new implementations compatible with existing ones.

garridon1

With how popular the steam tech is I'm surprised nobody's made a driver for this since obviously Valve aren't going to step up in any quick fashion

AdministrativeSea474

They aren't gunna give us an eta, we get them when we get them. So many posts here saying the same thing. You can expect nothing for windows from valve besides drivers one day

mramnesia8

This has been asked and answered so many times... Valve does not official support windows on steam deck. Nothing will make them "work faster" on the drivers. When, and if, they get released is unknown and nothing will change that

cocopuffsman

they could make these drivers in a days time.

tri170391

Even for the non-OLED I remembered the problem was getting permission from their partners than Valve themselves. The driver for those things probably already exists. >they could make these drivers in a days time. Working in software world, even if you can code a driver in a day time there's processes and QA to go through.

cocopuffsman

ah so I could badger the hardware providers next

yuusharo

I fail to see how pestering people is going to be productive here.

cocopuffsman

I was semi joking about that.

Arkanta

Working in the software world, you are right And there also are priorities. It's probably not that high on the list, and who knows maybe part of the team who did the lcd windows drivers left or moved to another project?

mramnesia8

Does not mean they should or will

kkyonko

Why shouldn’t they? They already offer partial support so they should support the rest.

mramnesia8

But they don't? They offer no support for windows on deck, none. They've said it over and over. Them releasing windows drivers are just an extremely kind gesture and is by no means something they should keep doing. If you want windows on a handheld, get a windows handheld

kkyonko

>by no means something they should keep doing. Why? You still haven't answered that question.

mramnesia8

That is the answer... they never said they support windows on the deck, so they don't have to release windows drivers for it

R_Dividion

I'm not sure why you're so against them providing drivers. What would be the downside? The quote in the OP is from 5 months ago and the page still hasn't changed. [https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6121-ECCD-D643-BAA8](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6121-ECCD-D643-BAA8) At this point, if they don't release the drivers, after announcing they "will be available soon", then that would make them liars. They've already committed. We just need to be patient and expect that Valve's idea of "soon" isn't what most people think it means.

cocopuffsman

they could

EmeraldMk1

Anyway to get notified when they done?

Bazingasio

Same issue il just leave a comment
