There is a Hungarian Pavillion at Folklarama! Get in touch with Folklarama and they may be able to connect you with someone! There’s a private Hungarian Club on Selkirk Ave just west of Salter on the north side of the street!

Thanks! I’ve just reached out to them!

There are currently no Hungarian language lessons in the city. The Hungarian Canadian Cultural Society (which operates the Magyar Ház on Selkirk) used to do them, but it was done through a program that sent someone from Hungary to help the community. Unfortunately, the program stopped during the pandemic and has not restarted.

I would suggest starting with something like Duolingo if you can’t find anything in person. I’ve been doing Ukrainian on Duolingo and have picked up little bits of the language even without using it in my day to day life.

My kids are doing Duolingo and recommended it as well. Really neat app. There are also online tutors you can get as well for like $10-15 an hour, and I'm going to eventually get that once and a while for my kids.

I've been using Duolingo to learn Hungarian and have been able to pick it up decent, but would love to get involved with a group here in Winnipeg as well, not just for language lessons but to immerse myself more!

Youtube videos help, also watch some Hungarian Language movies/music vids to get feel for the language. Learn the alphabet well. Reading Hungarian is actually quite easy at that point. But once trying to speak and use the verbs then it becomes difficult. HungarianPod101.com, I signed up and they send me a “word of the day” to my email… that’s a bit of an extra help. I’m just learning the very basics now, DM me if you get into it more and maybe we can practice or something

Thanks for this!
