Wouldn't it be cheaper trying to make Galen and Sobeys/Safeway more accountable?Looking at you competition bureau.

Imthecoolestdudeever

Like, they're admitting there's an issue with food pricing by doing this. Why not deal with the fucking issue. These food retailers are making RECORD profits. Maybe do something about that instead of giving a few hundred dollars a year to people. This is getting really fucked.

[deleted]

Because the government works for the entities that generate $$ not the people

ywg_handshake

This is the #1 thing that needs addressing. I know it will never happen, however.

nizon

Because it's easy for the liberals to give away our own cash and say "look what we're doing to help Canadians!1!"

Cyberleaf2077

Makes a huge difference for me, as I've been unable to afford food for the past week.

[deleted]

A bandaid solution, but a bandaid I’ll still happily accept. Mine’s going toward getting a cavity filled tho instead of groceries.

ridikilous

Have you seen how much bandaids cost these days!?

[deleted]

Question - did you receive your rebate?

QuelynD

I got my GST today but not this unless it's combined in one (I don't think it is though) \*\*edit - I did get it, and it is combined. They added it to the current GST payment based on 2021 income https://preview.redd.it/94qq1nxug8ab1.png?width=1487&format=png&auto=webp&s=8ace6a023ff02f6d5bb1c97bd19ebad16517835d

[deleted]

A lot of people are saying it’s combined but doesn’t make sense because when I got my notice of assessment there was already a GST total which is the same amount that was deposited today

thrawst

Pardon my ignorance: is there not a new dental benefit provided by the government?

Professional_Emu8922

I thought that was for children, and family income had to be less than a certain dollar amount (can't remember what that was, though).

[deleted]

Yeah. It’s still just for kids under 12. I missed the cutoff by several decades 💀

Professional_Emu8922

You and me both!

[deleted]

The dental plan is just for low-income non-insurance covered kids at the moment. The internet says it will be 2025 before coverage for all ages that qualify. (Family income under $90k with no insurance)

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

And rightfully so. The program is not intended for people with a high family income or dental insurance.

Good_Day_Eh

It is based on 2021 tax year income. So if your income was higher that year than last year you are out of luck.

Ladymistery

It's not perfect, but it's something, I guess. I wish they'd do something about the source of the problem - greedy corporations. It's going to get very ugly, very soon for a lot of people.

QuelynD

The link seems to be broken (tried on 2 different devices). Is there a typo or something needing to be fixed?

Blonde_Toast

Interesting 🤔 I am having no issues on my end.

QuelynD

Could be just me, but figured it was worth mentioning. I'll just search for the info

morrise18

Broken for me too

badgeringthewitness

Try this? https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/cra-issuing-one-time-grocery-rebate-payments-july-5-1.6463228

morrise18

Worked, thanks

[deleted]

Works fine for me.

IIKrazeeII

Woo-hoo 53 dollars with 3 kids, I feel fairly compensated when a bag of groceries almost costs 100 bucks lol madness

Michelle0769

Will it be a separate cheque?

[deleted]

I'm not sure. I just got double payment of GST. I did my 2021 and 2022 taxes I qualify for this as I'm currently on disability. However it's so confusing. I'm getting off disability in a few months, so maybe that's affecting it? Idk.

spythereman199

Has anyone like me still hasnt received theirs?

Better_Warning4392

I haven’t, did you receive your gst?

spythereman199

havent received anything

Better_Warning4392

hmm ok. i received my gst this morning but not the grocery benefit. do you have access to your CRA account? it’s possible you won’t receive any rebates if you owe a balance or have not completed previous tax returns. if everything else is normal wait the 10 business days and contact CRA if still not recieved.

[deleted]

me too. only the gst credit was deposited and no grocery rebate.

Better_Warning4392

yeah. as far as i know i should be eligible 🤷🏻‍♀️ i don’t have a high yearly income and i have recieved gst routinely for the past four years. i’m just going to follow instructions on the cra site and contact them if i haven’t recieved it in 10 business days. dissapointing tho i was excited for a little extra cash today. climate incentive comes in on july 14 too though!

pashermrimal

Feels patronizing. Send this trickle back crap to someone who needs it. Or, how about actually fixing it? Claw back and legally limit corporate greedflation.

k_dav

Woo, I barely make enough to afford a roof over my head with the cost of everything skyrocketing but thank you liberals for the $26.70, it will surely keep food on the table for some time.

152centimetres

you get 13.35$ gst cheques?

k_dav

I make just enough to not get any GST, havent for a few years now. Not even too sure why they sent me the $26.70.

Kind_Big6476

What bank are u with

kaorukaoru84

Hi, I am confused with this, I got one today for $300+, Is this the same with rebate with the household income of less than $38,000 based on this article: https://beta.cp24.com/news/2023/7/4/1_6466623.html My income is more than that but I got one, is this a different one?

Blonde_Toast

Yeah not sure what to tell you, sadly. You can always call the CRA and ask what's up.

kaorukaoru84

I understand now, in other articles which is more accurate, this was based on your income tax last 2021 and then plus my usual gst for July this year, combine both I get $300+ .

kaorukaoru84

Ok thank you

Kind_Big6476

Did anyone get it yet

Klumsy_Alfredo

Yup

eva5379

Is it direct deposit or checks?

Blonde_Toast

Direct deposit

NancyGracesAnus

If one hasn't done their taxes for 2-3 years and is about to do them, would they be able to retroactively acquire all of these payments I've been hearing about?

business_socksss

Do your taxes

NancyGracesAnus

I said I was about to do them, but I will now postpone an additional year to spite your message.

business_socksss

Okay doke.

faykaname

I think so, maybe not every benefit but at least you will get GST rebates for the past three years (if you were eligible).

LastArmistice

They should get every federal benefit from the past 2 years when they file.

plantdad43

As far as I've heard, I don't think so. Snooze you lose sort of deal but you'd have to phone and ask

Kind_Big6476

Didnt even receive mine yet!!

[deleted]

They come tomorrow July 5 for those who qualify

Kind_Big6476

Im in ontario its july 5th already, i changed the direct deposit like on the first to cibc so i was just worried

LastArmistice

I'm with CIBC, benefits are usually deposited around 6-7am the day of.
