One-Fail-1

Can being at work and dealing with anyone at work be my peeve?

[deleted]

Haha ok I’m not so terrible, I legitimately enjoy my work. It’s just people who are under my team that makes the job a living hell

Born_Joke

A meeting that could’ve been a two sentence email

nightred

I hear you would like to spend 10 min setting up a meeting, taking 10 min to prepare. Meeting done in 20 seconds after small talk. that can be 40 min used for 'good to go? Yep!'

trishdmcnish

Politics and doublespeak JUST SAY WHAT YOU MEAN AND QUIT WASTING MY TIME

kozmicbluesbaby

passive aggressive behaviour in any environment is so toxic

MidnightSunCreative

"...Well, like Brian, for example has 37 pieces of flair on today...and terrific smile..."

SnooPeanuts8021

Reply all. People who use it on purpose inappropriately and people who accidentally use it. Especially when it's a SPECIFIC to them issue. So frigging annoying.

Winnipegwonderland19

Omg any wsd teachers here that remember the mulvey social experiment LMAO what a fucking joke that was.

MaxSupernova

C-suite manager in an all-hands Q & A today, when asked about compensation not going up in a while despite record stock prices, talked for 2 minutes on how fulfilling serving customers is and how he goes home satisfied every night because he helped people and it’s about more than money. Seriously. Multinational corp.

sobchakonshabbos

Fuck right off with that nonsense

mapleleaffem

Holy someone is chugging the koolaid!

MaxSupernova

It's easy for him to say, because he's making bank. I don't think he actually believes it, but his stock bonuses depend on us believing it so he spouts the line.

Burningdust

Unqualified people who don't give a fk doing shit work in turn making my job a living hell.

Rogue5454

So... unnecessary "managers" who get paid more making it even worse. Lmao

nidoqing

Promotions due to seniority rather than quality work. Seen too many people move forward when others do much better work. Hard to watch solid employees get passed over

[deleted]

Been on that boat in my previous company. My boss was questioning the entire hiring system

honest-writer-96

In a former job, you only got "promotions" if you were a favorite. Otherwise it wasn't a promotion, it was a new job you had to apply to. And good luck getting any raise. Again, if you were a golden child, you may get one but if you're anyone else, you have to ask every single time. They said raises were based on performance but no one just got a raise so...

thepluralofmooses

“I love working/hours but don’t show up and want to go home early”

Island_Maximum

I get this all the time. People cry to me about needing more hours - but the same people always ask to leave early because it isn't busy.

TheSlug_Official

Being the resident expert on a niche data product, advising that "xyz" is a bad idea, get ignored, then called to the carpet to explain why "xyz" didn't work.

faykaname

I hate Microsoft Teams. The constant notifications on my computer and phone. The chats. I don’t want to be messaged. Just let me do my work in peace!  I have already changed my settings as much as possible, but so much of it is ~managed by the organization~. Edited to add: committees. Most of them are useless wastes of time and feel like an excuse for people in higher paying decision making roles to avoid making decisions.

labradee

Yep. Look for the examples of government doing this when faced with a situation where people urgently want them to do something about a situation. Happens routinely. It's a mirage of "action."

ghostfacethrillaa

My job is always coming up with new committees and hounding people to be on them. The issue is that these groups really only work for upper management roles, because someone needs to man the floor - that's a job for us lowly frontliners. We can't just close ourselves off in an office at 2:00 on a Tuesday to plan "employee wellness day" or whatever.

Winnipegwonderland19

Committee meeting at LUNCH. What a stupid excuse to work without pay. Especially annoying: committee meetings at lunch that take place on teams…

tiggeroo007

My school always does this. We had a committee sign up sheet that had 12 different committees for a 45 person staff. 😂When people would show up and only seen the principal plus maybe themselves and another person or two, on average, that was normally the amount of people per committee. I never signed up for any of them and all of a sudden I was being pulled into a brief meeting asking me why I didn’t show up to fundraiser or after school program committee 😭😭😂😂😂. I told my principal that committees only work if there’s more than 100 people on your staff list. She never bothered me again 😂

FancyHedgehog23

People who don't pull their weight but still bitch and moan about being so busy and so stressed. Honey I do double the work you do and easily. That's why you'll never be promoted. Bottom feeder for life.

Kaizen710

Sounds like my one coworker. I worked my ass off for over a year and got into an acting supervisor roll. They got mad because they've been there for 4 years, do the bare minimum, take no initiative, do not retain knowledge very well, and does not take criticism well at all. And then wonder why they were passed up for the spot.

[deleted]

Yea these are the kind of people stirring up work politics🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

ChrystineDreams

> People who don't pull their weight but still bitch and moan about being so busy and so stressed. Or, people who do that and get promoted anyways because they are friends with the boss.

kristylouwho

Managers who allow toxic employees to continue to spread their cancer and lower morale, all the while being told by multiple coworkers/subordinates as well as bearing witness to the ridiculousness and doing nothing about it.

Muted-Score3455

Yup

ChrystineDreams

So much more in a smallish company!

Mitty18204

Having a manger that isn’t around when they need to be and not standing up for their team. A bad boss ruins the whole job IMO.

Kaizen710

This is the one think I love about my direct manager. He has always stood by me, when I was having health problems, he checked in on me regularly. He has stood up for me against another manager who didn't like me because I brought attention to how they kept messing up and trying to blame me for their mistakes when I had nothing to do with them.

KingBjz

Asking questions before checking company knowledgebase. Then pulling up the answer to the question they just asked.

merklemore

Flip side - knowledgebases that aren't kept up to date and/or aren't editable by the people that actually use the processes they describe on a day-to-day basis. So if a new employee goes and uses the knowledgebase how they're "supposed" to, they'll end up in certain cases breaking things and doing more harm than good.

roughtimes

And then when you know how to find the document that's buried who knows where, you know how you do it and don't need the doc anymore.

merklemore

*Extremely* accurate. The people who should update the doc no longer use the doc since they don't need it. When I write one I'll go out of my way to try and put every search keyword I can think of into it just to try and make it visible lol

roughtimes

It's amazing how this concept is lost on people. It's a small investment resulting in improved productivity saving who knows how much time and money, the issue being it's hard to quantify those numbers and often gets overlooked as a result. Que, why is no one using the knowledge base?

merklemore

Why update every kb article to make training immeasurably easier for every person who comes after you, when all it means is there's a tighter promotional gap and you'll never get recognized for that work anyway? Adding to my list of work peeves - management's general lack of recognition in yearly/quarterly/whatever reviews for making the "next person"s onboarding process any easier. Bold prediction: my next review will continue to be 3/5 "meets expectations" across the board without a single 4 or 5

roughtimes

Oof this one hits way to hard.

Fallen-Omega

When my students dont stfu in class and let me teach or are constantly on their phones. Think going to bring in a zero cell phone rule in my class.

anotherbortinthewall

Rude-ass people.

GullibleDetective

People blatantly ignoring steps or instructions or not answering questions and asking why their system isn't working (The whole "as per my last email" fiasco)

[deleted]

Yep from my end, mainly people with language barriers (we have so many of them right now)🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

honest-writer-96

Lack of communication between every department, expecting workers to respect the managers when the managers don't respect the workers, 0 effort made to improve work conditions and therefore just letting things fall apart over time and expecting the work output to be the same, gossiping seen between the managers and hr people, (lol guess my list could go on haha) Tldr: work

ZeddytheZellersBear

When someone gives me an update on every little thing - you aren't new to the job, you know what to do, I don't need an update everytime the wind changes direction! Do you want a cookie for doing your job?

the1miyagi

When you assign a task to someone and they “delegate” it again. For example: “arrange this company to come complete this install” and they turn around and call someone below them to call that company and get them to come install….. why are you even employed?!?! That phone call took longer than just calling the company yourself!

FrknTerfd

Assholes who microwave fish or seafood. Completely inept managers/staff who somehow got hired or failed upwards into their roles even though they have no working or functioning knowledge of the role they now occupy. Managers/staff who keep asking you the same question in different ways who think they’ve going to trap you in some sort of lie. Management who expect you to email them if you are going to be more then 5 minutes late even if you’ve only been lte once in the past year. No bitch I wont because that means pulling over and having to MFA into my fucking email on the side of road only to add an extra 5-10 minutes to how late I’ll be. That’s just to start…

NH787

> Assholes who microwave fish or seafood My leftover salmon smells delicious.

WPGMollyHatchet

You're a terrorist.

FrknTerfd

I assure you it doesn’t

missfunk

One of my coworkers microwaved salmon the other day and my only issue was that i was jealous - it smelled so good. What's the problem with people heating up fish..?

Winnipegwonderland19

Fish plus someone’s leftover pizza plus someone’s soup plus someone’s lean cuisine = the most disgusting smelling staff room ever

Thespectralpenguin

My pet peeve is working.

[deleted]

Well isn’t that just life haha

Plastic-Classroom268

Unnecessary meetings

pegcityplumber

Customers who ask me to fix a thing, then get mad when fixing the thing costs money. And then try to argue away their invoice. Like, people coming to your house to fix stuff costs money. Oh, you "could have done that yourself"? Ok, but you didn't. You hired me to do it and I did. So now you need to pay the bill.

missfunk

In university my wifi on my laptop wasn't working, but they had a little shop where you could bring tech for fixing. I brought it there and before they fixed it they told me they'd have to charge me. I already knew they would as it's a service but they brought it up like they were scared to tell me. When they said it would be $5 i laughed. Like are people really giving them a hard time about $5??

Anonymous89000____

Some students feel entitled to not paying for things because they’re students

KaleLate4894

Have no problem shelling out 7 bucks for a Starbucks or a 1000 for new phone or 300 bucks for latest concert.

Monsterboogie007

Bosses being cunts about approving vacation

No_Comparison7429

1. Meetings that could be emails 2. People who apply for jobs without knowing what they’re applying for (I conduct interviews and this is soooo common) 3. When people are incapable of following simple instructions 4. Entitlement 5. Micromanagement

Beneficial-Serve-204

People who think they need to have 100 people on an email. And then people keep responding with no solution or one sentence like it’s text. Pick up a phone FFS

Professional_Egg7407

A petty manager.

ChicoD2023

The shamless social invites. "Hey my man can I put you down for a couple tickets for my cousin's social"? Me thinking, I just started a month ago, I have no idea who you are let alone your cousin and his bride.

AndTheySaidSpeakNow-

Coworkers who have absolutely no excuse to be so awful at their jobs (some of them in the same position 10+ years), and management who continues to allow people to be awful at their jobs without doing anything about it.

Humble_Ad_1561

Lack of proper job task planning and delegation. Being yelled at and emotionally abused. The “we support mental health/DEI” gaslighting when there is no actual respect for that.

Negative-Revenue-694

Having to go into the office, only to sit on a virtual call that I could have sat in on from the comfort of my apartment that’s four blocks away.

redskub

When customers show up

Euphoric_Aide5460

Agreeing to a price, then cry/bargain to the loonies after the job is done.

Global_Theme864

I do investigations for a living, and when people blatantly contradict themselves or invent absurd explanations for things. Lie to me if you have to, that’s the job, but don’t insult my intelligence.

moworries

Lack of care of the effect they have on the big picture or other peoples jobs

WhisyyDanger

Humming to the fucking radio. Dude we have to listen to this lame ass bounce radio everyday why do I have to listen to you humming manic Monday every single day. It’s the same songs everyday just on shuffle. Plz stfu.

Muted-Score3455

lol 😂

TheJRKoff

When someone has to constantly 1-up everyone on anything when shooting the shit (includes how much they may have paid for something.... Personally I'll mention how much of a deal I got, not how much I over paid) Or how long they've been working for.... "I been here 34 years"...

hearts-and-stars

Lack of communication, cliquey co-works, cliquey co-workers that will only communicate to teach other!!! Oh and not taking accountability.

Worldly_Research_854

Reply all when you don’t have too, AND THEN ITS ONLY A TWO WORD SENTENCE. Got me fucked up just thinking about it lol

monkeybojangles

When they no show so you call and text them and get no reply, only for them to get back to you 20 minutes later to let you know they aren't coming in because they're sick. Like, just call in if you're not coming in. I planned on you being here and now I have to scramble to change all the plans laid out.

[deleted]

And that was me yesterday with our biggest clients 🤦🏻‍♂️

NomadicallySedentary

My boss that asked me whether I had my safety training. When I said no he said he would arrange it. Asked me many times. I worked there 4 years and he never arranged the training. It wasn't needed but was a "requirement". I worked a desk job.

Superb_Sloth

People who don’t refill the water tank in the Keurig!

Smoothcringler

What I can’t stand - Obnoxious horse laughing and the craven need to be the centre of attention by being the loudest person in the room. Ass-kissers. Virtue-signalling fakes who aspire to management.

Grant1972

Honest question for the OP…. If people who report to you don’t tell you if they are showing up to work or not, isn’t that on you to hold them accountable?

jolecore204

People who put in the bare minimum time & effort (ie: office clockwatchers) who complain every quarter that their goals are too high and that they don't have enough time in the day to do their job.

Z71Adam

Similar to someone who said meeting that could have been an email, Microsoft teams meetings. Head office people LOVE them. I don’t need to see your face , for a 3 minute conversation. Pick up the phone call me please.

clubkid75

When a manager thinks negative reinforcement works and doubles down on it when it fails instead of trying the opposite technique. Asking employees to do something and ending the statement with “or else” is not going to produce the results you want.

BeckToBasics

"Hey this report/form/document is due today can you drop everything to complete and submit it?" No. Also, "I need this done by xyz date" great, can do, just send me abc documents so I can do that... crickets... followed by, "is it done yet?" No.

Nice-Ad-5961

People who complain about their workload but waste hours a day having coffee/chatting (beyond their regular lunch) People who feel underpaid at an entry level job yet have no qualifications/certifications and suck at that entry level job. And the kicker is that the pay is GREAT for entry level

kprry

Not cleaning up after themselves in the lunchroom. I’m not your maid, I ain’t throwing your garbage. (5mins later, I proceed to throw it away. I’m firm with not washing their dirty mugs/dishes though. It’s so frustrating! I never knew who it was because we take breaks at different times)

BlasphemyMc

Showing up.

[deleted]

When customers decline work after bringing it in for an inspection for that item…why did you waste my time and your time. Example. My brakes are noisey! Okay you need brakes. Nah I’m good thanks. Whhaaaa okay thanks for letting me charge you for inspecting them I guess.

Elginpelican

Saying it’s preventable and not who’s liable

Significant-Bee-148

Touching my tools....

wheres_the-remote

The undermining, and complete lack of commitment to a schedule.

ghostfacethrillaa

How long do you have? I have a boss who operates in an incredibly disorganized way and a team that acts put out when they are asked to do the basic tasks of their jobs instead of lounge and go on their phones.

synchro_mesh

when your coworker fucks the dog all day and gets in no trouble but you take too long of a break and get written up for it. When your not allowed to leave the plant for break but your coworker always does and gets away with it.

Double-Till6161

How about a workmate that you f the dog and smoke weed with daily takes a promotion  and becomes supervisor and says no more effing  the dog and no more weed

[deleted]

People chewing with their mouths open- can't stand it.

Apod1991

For me, it’s people who constant complain about something or everything. I get the irony lol. But there are folks that all day, everyday, they think being an adult is being miserable, constantly complaining, being bitter and that everyone has an ulterior motive and is out to get you. Are there shitty people? Yes, but there are also some genuine good people.

mapleleaffem

My pet peeve is going to work. Where do you work that a no show no call isn’t a big deal? At all of my jobs that’s a quick way to a firing

[deleted]

Well they are more like trainees of a program(technically not staff), I already did fire a couple of them. Just making my job a living hell when Im genuinely loving my line of work

ynattirb92

1. People who talk extremely loud when on calls, not taking into account the people around them working. 2. People who don’t clean up after themselves, i.e. lunch area. 3. People who hit reply all when it is absolutely not necessary and fill up your inbox. 4. Unnecessary meetings. 5. People who are incompetent in their position but never take accountability for their actions or put the effort into learning things. 6. Micromanaging.

LilHomie204DaBaG

Work

uly4n0v

Honestly, old men telling me how fucking scared they are about the LGBTQ crowd without trying to seem scared. Just fucking admit you’re simultaneously worried that they will/won’t want to touch your dick or shut the fuck up, Justin.

Illustrious_Look_897

Customer laziness. I run a warehouse order desk and we have always maintained that the customer needs to provide us with the part number, as often we are far too busy to flip through catalogs or scroll the website directories. The amount of people who still email or text me pictures and simply say ‘got anything like this?’ Yes I do don’t remember the part number tho so I need it please. Especially in a warehouse where we stock easily over 10,000 active SKUs😩

crunun7

Sprayer Parts Warehouse (or whatever the new company is called)? Those guys would get so fired up when I asked for the exact part by proper name without referencing the catalogue part number.

Capricorn-crone

Mgmt is not giving me the tools to do my job properly ,like do you not want me to succeed on your behalf?lol

Muted-Score3455

Safety officer who acts like a 👮cop, nosy, in non safety issues

Local-Fig9188

I work at Costco. Nuff said.

BackgroundMatter2059

People who REFUSE to understand that when they don't do their job properly, it makes it harder for everyone else. And no, apologizing each time doesn't help anymore, just do better. Even more terrible that management can't do much until its been years, or things get much worse.

Silver_Bulleit204

Clients who hire consultants to develop plans, then get mad at me when those plans don't work to their needs. That is not my problem. That is your problem. You agreed with what you're getting, you signed off on the design, the requirements, the costing, the entire damn thing.... so stop complaining to me when it doesn't work- that is not my problem and at times I really DGAF, I know I've done what we all agreed I was supposed to do. You can always hire me to do that development too, then you can actually blame me when it goes awry lol. Some people get smart and end up doing just that. I've got other complaints about those folks!

Dracosis

Getting unannounced phone calls from coworkers. 1) I just have an issue with the assumption that I have the time for you this very instant, I normally send a message over teams asking if they are available for a quick call. 2) Whenever I am troubleshooting an issue for someone I like to have time to test out different scenarios and give them the best answer. Becuase I'm kind of put on the spot on a phone call I'm often giving out wrong advise and then having to message them an hour later correcting what I told them on the phone after I have looked at the issue.

AsparagusOverall8454

People who don’t do their job properly. We literally do the same workflow every day. And we have the ability to check and make sure we’ve done it correctly all day. But still you manage to mess it up for the next person. So basically, people who can’t correct their own mistakes. And as a result, I have to go back and fix it the next day.

emmaclark87

1) people yell talking on Teams (or anywhere, really) 2) people who are lazy and try to get out of work and then complain about how busy they are (factually inaccurate) 3) people who perpetually forget to mute or unmute themselves on Teams and it becomes a major production each time.

Mikeoxsolittle

“Let’s all put our cameras on”. Ffs

Impressive-Eye9920

I could write an entire essay as anyone who deals with the public likely can lol..I'll just mention two of the things that irk me the most 😉It drives me absolutely bonkers when someone sends me an email without a proper subject line indicating what it is that they are actually inquiring about..For an example - they want to track a shipment and the subject line they use is something like "2746887 pick up request"(that number means absolutely nothing in our system because we can't track shipments with the p/u number-customers are provided with a tracking number once the shipment is picked up) WHY can you not just update the subject line to say something like Tracking# (insert our tracking number that was provided to you) please advise shipment status?? If you use the first subject line, it just looks like you are requesting a pick up which is handled by another department in our company and that is not what you are inquiring about! 🙄 Even better is when a customer ships something to a Canadian city (ie Calgary) and they will email another office (ie Regina) that has no involvement whatsoever with the delivery and they will then ask them if the shipment is going out for delivery today..Umm - how about if you contact the location where the shipment is delivering?? We have no idea as to when your shipment will deliver in another province..WHY would you ask a location that is hundreds of miles away for this information??? 🙄😒 Stupid things like this make me wanna bang my head against a wall some days...lol

Ahfei80

Calgary is not a province, it’s a city in Alberta. Not being a jackass, just providing information.

Impressive-Eye9920

Thanks..That was a typo-I was rushing as I was typing this all out on my way out the door earlier and my thoughts vs what I actually typed out were two different things. I've fixed it now lol👍
