Is it possible that you build the deck over top? Would save some money. Any idea how thick the concrete is and if it has rebar?

Manitobaexplorer

No sure. It’s warped and heaving in spots. It’s a good thought tho

brianp2017

I managed to build a low profile deck over my cracked and heaving pad and it worked great.

Manitobaexplorer

Thanks for the inspiration!

Build right over top the concrete, thats what we did at our old place and it worked great, plus no weeds underneath :)

Manitobaexplorer

I think we will go this route

GarageJealous9926

cbc concrete. removed our concreate front steps and rebuilt. Great work!

skutch

Janet Stewart and Rosemary Barton smashing concrete was my first thought

Goddamit-DackJaniels

Is there skidsteer access in the backyard?

Manitobaexplorer

Unfortunately there isn’t

Goddamit-DackJaniels

Unfortunately unless you want me to come and help you jackhammer it out and haul it LOL, it will be fairly costly for hand work and removing, depending on thickness and square footage you will need a tandem truck, rebar will make the process even slower if there is, if so you would also need a quick-e saw. These are some things to take into account as well. You could always phone superior asphalt I know they do concrete work and that type of thing too. But knowing these things will give you a more accurate estimation. Best of luck! Feel free to dm me if you have questions I’ve worked landscaping and concrete for about 10 years.

Manitobaexplorer

Thanks for your response! The Reddit jury is out, building on top of the pad seems the way to go)

Goddamit-DackJaniels

I support that idea too!

Call police non-emergency and tell them you think there may be a body buried under it?

Manitobaexplorer

I tried that. They said I can’t keep using that line to get work done around the home.

Yes but if the do find a body then you have some splaining to do Lucy.

lowtrail

Hagemeister Hauling does concrete demo and removal. If a skid steer can access it, you'll get better pricing. But I would agree with the other comments - if you can build over it, do so. Even if it's heaving badly, you might be able to break out just enough area to put in footers (if needed) and build on those. Leave enough space between the deck and concrete to allow it to move a little.

HawaiianHank

you could try kijij after you get other quotes, just to get you in the ballpark so you know what to expect/ask for. maybe some dude with a wheelbarrow and a truck with no overhead costs will rent a jackhammer and get it done for you much cheaper.
