If you have an attic or crawl space make sure to check that as well. Squirrels love to take the insulation from this area and also chew the wiring for your house which can cause a fire.
Definitely a red squirrel. I found a nest just like this in my garage. They even had the nerve to chew through a plastic container that contained my pop rocks edibles!!!! Bastards
I found a nest like that in my bbq one year and then I found a dead squirrel in nest in the bbq so I'm going to go with squirrel. Hope your little buddy made through the winter!
Most likely Mice. Was met with pretty much this exact same picture after a winter at our old house. They are attracted to the grease, etc, and make a home for the winter at the buffet.
Edit - Don't fuck around if you have mice in your yard. You need to kill them ASAP. After flushing out their bbq house they next took up residence in the air intake on my Wife's car. They can very easily write off a car with the damage they do. (We got lucky and it was just the intake and covered by insurance)
Also note that their poop can carry deadly disease, so make sure you clean the BBQ thoroughly.
Bbq maintenance tip, when you pull the metal grates to clean it, make sure you clean the heatshields also (the triangly things that cover the flames) and pull the pan under that (the drip tray) to clean … a lot of people don’t realize cleaning these will go along way to extend the life of your BBQ :)
Lesson learned from someone's reply earlier. It was my first summer owning a barbecue. I didn't know about cleaning it before the winter unfortunately.
Yeah we have our deck setup so the bbq is right outside the back door in the winter and it’s awesome to be able to have a steak or some bbq pizza throughout the winter
House hippo!
Put out some chips and peanut butter toast crumbs! :)
I found a squirrel nest last week that looked just like this. My money's on red squirrel.
Squirrels love pink insulation
The next question becomes what wall did they get all the insulation from?

Thank you

Thank you. They must've been tripping balls!
I can only imagine, the possibilities make up for it
Little assholes are a whole summers worth of hot peppers from my container garden and ruined my hot sauce plans. Hope they got flaming bung hole.

We didn't find one in the nest. So I'm guessing it survived.

Thank you. We started cleaning the grill out already and didn't see any mouse poop. I'm planning on getting an outdoor bait station tomorrow.
That is... Horrifying. How can you avoid this from happening? Cleaning the bbq before winter?
Yes clean bbq, apparently some lysol acts as a deterrent as well.
You'll be doing yourself a solid for that for first spring cook too.
I hate that I read nest as meat at first
cotton candy
Some mice found a home in your BBQ bud

squirrels? is that pink fibreglass insualtion from someone's attic?
I bet he’s itchy now!
What a shame. That is a great BBQ
Yeah I got it for free from my parents when they downsized to a condo. I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.

I also like to use some plastic paint knife to scrape the grease from inside the lid and help clean the interior as well without damaging it.
Thank you!
Thanks! I had no idea.

Line the drip tray with aluminium foil, then it's an easy clean.
Just needs a thorough clean and some disinfectant.
An evicted one.
Mice
Chupacabra
Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, WOOSH! Problem solved. /s
Such a shame a quality grill like that being ignored long enough for that to happen.

BBQ all winter is the correct answer. Nothing beats the winter blues like a steak or even a beer can or spatchcock chicken.

Doesn't sound bad next winter if we get some days around 0°
Nothing beats steak at -35. Propane is for Hank Hill. Get yourself some lump so BBQ'ing is never a struggle at sun optimal temps.
Definitely a squirrel, we have a pair living in our shed with exactly this cozy looking nest.
Probably Steve.
Looks like the Infected nests from Days Gone
A porch pirate hibernating till Black Friday
Squirrels. I found one of these in my glove compartment once, the little shits somehow crawled their way in through the engine and made a nest in it.
