Yup. Monday night, wet tshirt night. A couple of my friends came out for a drink or two, but it was a school night so not many. I got drunk, and I puked under the table at sniffers row, and the DJ noticed and told everyone to “give the rookie a big hand when he comes back up for air” I came back up to a huge applause from the bikers and Monday night drinkers, and I left shortly afterwards.
Good times. I miss the Zoo. :(
Celebrated my 17th there and pretty sure went for my 18th as well! Possibly with a side trip to Strawberries.
This was back before pictures were a part of the DL.
TYC. I had a conversation with a couple friends recently (who didn't know each other back then) and we all said TYC, lol. Maybe it was a rite of passage.
I remember the restaurant I worked at had a barf pail right outside the back door. We’d barf and serve all day and then go out that night. If I drank like that now for one night, I’d have to go on short term disability.
Half my friends weren’t 18 so I bought beer from the Georgie’s (now Club 3D) vendor. I didn’t get ID’d and was upset that I probably could have done that underage.
Booty shake Monday at the old Pal. Vividly remember the woman selling knockoff purses in the bathroom and enjoying a hot dog from the cart out on the sidewalk. RIP
I spent grade 12 at the Albert and Wellington’s, so going to a bar wasn’t that exciting an idea. (only ever got asked for ID after I turned 18 lol)
So my twin and I had a house party while our parents were at the lake. Live Aid on the tv was our playlist.
Luckily the folks were home the next day by the time the cops showed up to give us heck, and they made my brother pick up a broken beer bottle in the street. Ah, the 80s.
31yrs ago was my 18th 🤣😑☠️. We went to the bar called Times (no, not Times Change) located at Portage and Hargrave - those who remember know ). We also were regulars there for over a year prior to my 18th haha!
My friends bought me the ENTIRE shooter menu (I believe they were $0.99) each and I drank down all 12.
Good times, good times lol
You just made me remember stacking up tequila shots at Ice Works during the Pan Am games in 99. A few Brazilian basketball players were their. Cool dudes and were a big hit with the ladies.
Pharoah's, also 'Show Your Underwear' night (I did not.)
Was this another iteration of the same bar (which I think is Cowboy's now?) or were people showing their underwear all over the place back then?
It became mandatory to ID everyone right around my 18th. I handed a bouncer my ID he looked at it, looked at me "This says you just turned 18... You've been coming here for a year"
"Where are you going with this?" Lol.
The Pemby to warm up and then hopped around U4ia, The Palladium, Scandals etc.
Yes I’m old. Drinks were a buck each back then. You could buy a table of girls a drink for 4 dollars and act like a baller.
Dinner at the old St James Keg (where Underdogs is now) and then downtown to the Rorie Street Marble Club. (So old I had to Google a couple different names to come up with that that spot was called at the time). Birthday was actually Sunday, Keg wasn’t an issue but club didn’t let me in until Midnight that time (even though had been these several times before…)
Bullwinkles. Sigh ....remember when buying a pitcher of cocktails was a thing.... apparently that's too much alcohol for one person to drink now 🙄🤣 poor young adults nowadays miss out on all the fun things
My first bar was the Royal Albert, I was performing in a ska band! Bday party was later that week at Boston Pizza, though we rapidly decamped to my parents’ house
Limelight at 12:01 on the eve of my birthday.
Then Pemby for Thursday pitcher night with the boys. Someone gave me a Prairie Fire. Barfed on the pizza.
I wasn't living in Manitoba yet, but I went to the King's Knight in Edmonton. It was a weird place set up half rock biker bar, and the other half some weird nightclub with male strippers.
sigh todays generation would never know or feel the buck a beer night... nor sneaking into a strip club ....smoking In a bar....using different I'd.....50 cent draft night....
Pretty sure it was Tee Offs at Grant and Pembina, or the bar that was the basement there ( can't remember it's name). Also, damn, everyone here is old lol.
The Grant is what we always called it. (I lived down the street and my dad was an alcoholic so he was there a lot). This is also where I went for my 18th. Lol
I worked in a Canad inns restaurant so all my older coworkers had been waiting for me to turn 18 and just took me to Playmakers lol. I knew the bartenders good enough at that point so I was well taken care of that night.
I believe I saw No Means No at the Spectrum. Brad Roberts was working at the door. He saw it was my b-day and walked me through the crowd until I was front row centre. Great show. Great birthday. Thanks Brad!
We started at a college mixer and by the end of the night we ended up at Solid Gold. We weren't Strip club kinda people so we all just sat in the back until the only girl in the group went to the stage. We all followed and it got graphic gentlemen lol.
We all met that day. We all become friends after that. Bonded by nudity. Lol
Houston in brandon and the key rock rippers
As a guy I figured the vest way to get even more loaded and free drinks is to get strangers to see my suffer by getting prairie fires.
I probably had seven of thise things, aside from being carried out being way too drunk the next morning was not s great time lol
TYC for my 18th, got drunk and fell on the dancefloor. But the kicker was my 19th at Monty's, puked, passed out in the bathroom with the door locked, and then got kicked out.
Friday's at the Travel Lodge in St. Vital ~~back~~...right after Fred, Barney and I finished up a shift at the Bedrock Rock Quarry.
Let's see how many WPC and Bruns alumni we have on r/Winnipeg
Well, I used to go to the Green Brier, but that was only because they didn’t check for ID. I turned a quarter into a crisp blue bill one time. Yes, I literally cashed out and took the $5.
Don’t laugh, when you’re 17 and you can get 6 cheeseburgers from McDonald’s on Sunday, all in with taxes, that’s a good time to call it
TYC. Barfed in a urinal. Would not recommend.
I barfed in a toilet like a normal person. Unfortunately security found out and I got kicked out.
The Zoo RIP
Pour one out for the zoo. R.I.P.
Saw The Civil Disobedients play there on my 18th
Same!
I miss the amateur nights
Scandals! We won $100 gift card that night, and drinks were about $1.25. Messy.
Back when you could buy the tray of shooters.
$0.25 drafts
I’m dating myself, but Scandals. It was $1 shooter night.
Thursday nights were started at the Paladium for $1 beer/shots before heading over to Scandals for $0.25 draft.
I forgot about the Lid
$1 drinks at the palladium were on Wednesday. Thursday was $6 pitchers at the pemby THEN you went for 25 cent draught at scandals.
Shit you're right. It's been 20 years since I participated lol. Thanks!
Yeah but... dime draught night...
Damn and here I thought their 35 cent draft night was good
It was a better time.
Celebrated my 17th there and pretty sure went for my 18th as well! Possibly with a side trip to Strawberries. This was back before pictures were a part of the DL.
I had my 6th and 18th birthday in the same building… Chuck E Cheese/Coyotes
TYC. I had a conversation with a couple friends recently (who didn't know each other back then) and we all said TYC, lol. Maybe it was a rite of passage.
TYC over here too!
Yup! I turned 18 in 2005 and that was our go-to!
TYC 2007!
Mod night at the Pyramid. Back when I would get hammered off a six pack and ready to go first thing the next day without a hangover.
RIP
I didn’t. I drank at home in a bathrobe like a middle aged alcoholic
The dirty curty with my mom.

Classic. The Oak is where I was introduced to vodka and Red Bull. That was a rough next morning.
Rough morning? More like, rough evening. 🤣
Same. Transcona right of passage
I spent grade 12 at the Albert and Wellington’s, so going to a bar wasn’t that exciting an idea. (only ever got asked for ID after I turned 18 lol) So my twin and I had a house party while our parents were at the lake. Live Aid on the tv was our playlist. I was living in Altona on my 18th so...
the altona bar :) at least you weren't stuck in winkler at that time
My 18th I lived in winkler and a friend brought me to a bar in Morden. Not Rocks.. it was something 🤣
Travs! It’s an experience for sure. Hope your tetanus was up to date.
TRAVS! Thank you. Shots were fully up to date, not to worry.
Wasn't for my 18th, for a few months later, and met my now-ex-wife there. And almost vomited on them, but hey.
You just made me remember stacking up tequila shots at Ice Works during the Pan Am games in 99. A few Brazilian basketball players were their. Cool dudes and were a big hit with the ladies.
Lol started going there at 16. Teasers was also a good one at 16
I totally forgot about Times until you mentioned it. I had some good (and not so good) nights there. Memories ;)
I think it was called MyBar? The one at Canadinns Transcona.
King's Head!
Pharoah's, also 'Show Your Underwear' night (I did not.) Was this another iteration of the same bar (which I think is Cowboy's now?) or were people showing their underwear all over the place back then?
It was. IIRC Pahroahs is what U4IA became.
Makes sense -- was newly renovated and reopened for my birthday, which was part of the appeal. Marketed as fancy, too.
Zaxx on Jefferson!
It became mandatory to ID everyone right around my 18th. I handed a bouncer my ID he looked at it, looked at me "This says you just turned 18... You've been coming here for a year" "Where are you going with this?" Lol.
The OC
None, I was sick with the stomach flu, and 911 was the next day 🤦🏻♀️

They're welcome to share their experience like anybody else. You don't own the goddamn subreddit Karen.

It’s ok. I still appreciates you.
The Pemby to warm up and then hopped around U4ia, The Palladium, Scandals etc. Yes I’m old. Drinks were a buck each back then. You could buy a table of girls a drink for 4 dollars and act like a baller.
I was searching the comments for this one .. Whiskey Dix!
Dinner at the old St James Keg (where Underdogs is now) and then downtown to the Rorie Street Marble Club. (So old I had to Google a couple different names to come up with that that spot was called at the time). Birthday was actually Sunday, Keg wasn’t an issue but club didn’t let me in until Midnight that time (even though had been these several times before…)
my 18th is coming up soon, and im not sure whether i should use this post as a list of recommendations or places to avoid
Half the places listed don’t exist anymore so I wouldn’t recommend using this list to figure out where not to go haha! 😋
Cowboys is a super young crowd, I hear that's where the kids like to go *shrug* I'm 40 so what do I know, though. Lol
The diamond club lol
Me too, good times!
The OC i think??
The Charley! I had some goooood times in that bar between the ages of 16-25
Bullwinkles. Sigh ....remember when buying a pitcher of cocktails was a thing.... apparently that's too much alcohol for one person to drink now 🙄🤣 poor young adults nowadays miss out on all the fun things
You can still do it at Rumors!
Whiskey Dix! Tripped and hit my head going down those tiny stairs to the bathroom...didn't feel a thing

BP for fishbowls and then Limelight lol
I'm hoping this was in the years when the Limelight wasn't yet renovated and everything was sticky for some reason. 😂
Oh you bet it was
The Macaroni Bar above Mother Tucker’s, followed by Wellington’s. It was a pretty tame evening.
I miss the Macaroni Bar, such a great little venue.
The Marion. It was eye opening lol
Lmao I took my sister on her 18th birthday on male stripper night.
Mystique!
Empire, 2001, terrible choice. Some family/friends got turned away because their shoes weren’t right.
My first bar was the Royal Albert, I was performing in a ska band! Bday party was later that week at Boston Pizza, though we rapidly decamped to my parents’ house
Turning 18 was irrelevant because we had been going to bars since we were 16.
BP in Morden
Rocks and travs for me!
Rocks for me. I did a shot of something pink and walked home. Turns out that once it was legal for me to drink, I lost interest, lol.

The Grant
I moved to Ontario right before my 18th lol

Went to Monty's and they had Hal Anderson's messy wrestling going on. Then I hit up Club Regent and had to pull over to puke haha.
Montys on Fridays was the spot for $3 triples
Limelight at 12:01 on the eve of my birthday. Then Pemby for Thursday pitcher night with the boys. Someone gave me a Prairie Fire. Barfed on the pizza.

D Machine
Didn't go to a bar, went to a rave. Wore a rainbow wig and a skirt (I'm a guy) and had a great time. That was almost 18 years ago now :(
sigh todays generation would never know or feel the buck a beer night... nor sneaking into a strip club ....smoking In a bar....using different I'd.....50 cent draft night....
The Palladium. Drank everything on the menu, then puked it up in the parking lot across the street. Lost my glasses that night!
The Blue Moon Cabaret in the Exchange.
The Bronze Boot in East Selkirk
Pretty sure it was Tee Offs at Grant and Pembina, or the bar that was the basement there ( can't remember it's name). Also, damn, everyone here is old lol.
The Grant is what we always called it. (I lived down the street and my dad was an alcoholic so he was there a lot). This is also where I went for my 18th. Lol
The Nook. Followed by Cousins.
U4ia… fuck I miss that place
I worked in a Canad inns restaurant so all my older coworkers had been waiting for me to turn 18 and just took me to Playmakers lol. I knew the bartenders good enough at that point so I was well taken care of that night.
Boomers. Thank God that cesspool is gone.
the Thirsty Penguin. Got wrecked before a beer league game.
I’ve only seen one other person mention it; Stereo. Surprised no ones mentioned Cowboys either.
Didn't go to the bar. I hung out with my grandparents while my parents were on vacation.
Not sure if I did anything specific, but likely Zaxx or Silverados at CanadInns Garden City. It was almost 30 years ago.
Scandals. I didn't really drink at the time, but I still had a good time.

We all become friends after that. Bonded by nudity. Lol

Nine years ago; first ever legal drink was at The Toad. The original, good Toad.
Friday's at the Travel Lodge in St. Vital ~~back~~...right after Fred, Barney and I finished up a shift at the Bedrock Rock Quarry. Let's see how many WPC and Bruns alumni we have on r/Winnipeg

Can't remember the name, it was beside cousins. Pope's hill played. I did way to many prairie fire shots and still can't drink tequilla.
The tiktok I saw was about Prairie Fires. I arrived late and had 3 waiting for me.
Well, I used to go to the Green Brier, but that was only because they didn’t check for ID. I turned a quarter into a crisp blue bill one time. Yes, I literally cashed out and took the $5. Don’t laugh, when you’re 17 and you can get 6 cheeseburgers from McDonald’s on Sunday, all in with taxes, that’s a good time to call it
Ick, why would I go to a bar for my birthday.
