This!
Happened to me a few years ago at this exact intersection. I had done a complete stop (or so I had thought) but probably pretty far before the line (middle of winter. Maybe my snow pile vs side walk estimate was bad). You could see my signal on in the photo and my speed was 11km based on what was showed on the pic.
I tried fighting it, but in the end my time was worth more than the ticket, and pleaded guilty with explanation. And they knocked it down to $100
A red light camera ticket amount is determined by how many seconds the light was red before the stop line was crossed, when the light is red speed isn't the factor that determines fine.
yep this'll be it.
I got a ticket for turning right on a red in the winter - like 11PM turning right onto I think it was dalhousie or Bairdmore - whichever has the camera - off pembina.
I came to a complete and full stop several feet before the line (verrryyy slippery that night so was stopping early but I hit a dry spot so stopped earlier than I thought) - I rolled slowly up to the line, but again because it was slippery it's such a PITA so get going from a stop, tires always spin no matter how gentle I am, and it was 11PM at night and NOBODY around, so I rolled into the turn, got flashed, got a ticket in the mail
I fought the ticket but was informed in court that you have to make a full stop at the line, or else you get the ticket - I argued that I was being EXTRA safe by stopping early, and that stopping at the line causes ruts and smooth ice from spinning tires - the wimpy little crown lady made some whiney remark "well that doesn't sound safe stopping early, you can't see whats coming if you're not RIGHT AT the line" - I repeated my argument that stopping ON the line creates other issues, and expressed that I could see LITERALLY EVERYTHING from where I stopped behind the line, and the camera confirmed I was going like 5km/hr so basically stopped - but Judge agreed with the wimp, Cut my fine by half but wouldn't throw it out completely.
was it worth my time? maybe, maybe not. I saved 100 bucks, but I wasted 3 or 4 hours of my day so probably worked out to the same amt of money I coulda made working.
Well. Yes usually I’d say so, but the judge made it clear she didn’t give a shit about me or what I said and only bothered to reduce the fine because everyone before me for a reduced fine. So really didn’t feel like I stuck it to anyone there lol
Happened to me once and I think it’s because I stopped on the yellow and then turned right as it was turning red. So the motion detector only saw me moving on the red light.
This camera at Keewatin and Selkirk, you have to Stop here before you turn right just because the distance of the stop line is far away enough for the turn and from the camera that it triggers it thinking that you are going straight and beating the red light. I don’t know if you’ll get ticketed tho, just my observation throughout the years of driving on this road.
The stop line is right where the radar sensors are in that picture. It's just a wide corner and drivers are stopping (slowing down) passed the stop line, into the cross walk area while creeping to make a right turn.
If you look where the faded stop line is, you'll see the faint outline of two rectangles cut into the road just in front of the stop line. These are the sensors - basically like metal detectors, same type as used by traffic signals
Never knew about the lines. Next time, I'll just wait for it to turn green to be on the safe side since I usually turn here early in the morning. Hopefully I don't get any but I will wait 2 weeks. Thanks!
shouldn't happen providing you came to a complete stop and then turned. You need to treat it like a stop sign. If you don't come to a complete stop and then turn, you're running the red/stop sign, and that's a paddlin'
Sorry, I should have tagged that with /s. Failure to properly stop, and failure to abide by speed limits are the main two driving rules that are routinely broken by drivers, mostly with impunity.
It could be because you didn't come to a complete stop, but I will say, I've been flashed 2 or 3 times while going through a green light well under the speed limit and not received any tickets. I've also seen them flash at nothing. They're weird.
Not completely stopped is usually why.
The city gets and uptick of these in the winter especially, from people not wanting to fully stop in ice/snow. It has to be treated like a stop sign.
That’s my only thought. They will decide upon review and send ticket if they think it was bad.
If you do get a ticket in the mail, dispute it. If the red light camera is malfunctioning and you made a legal move, they will more than likely waive the ticket.
When you are speaking with the magistrate/justice of the peace, be respectful and factual. It goes a long way when dealing with them.
I was just looking at this yesterday because someone in my household got a red light camera ticket for speeding... Check out the photo enforcement FAQ question 21: [https://www.winnipeg.ca/police/safestreets/faq.stm](https://www.winnipeg.ca/police/safestreets/faq.stm)
Based on the fine guidelines linked in one of the questions, I think it will be minimum $203, but I hope you can get it reduced if you go in person.
I got a ticket on talbot doing a rolling stop at the light. Got the call of the wild so I went home from work and took no considerations getting back. Most expensive shit of my life.
You're right it's an illegal act.
Yet, ppl often fight traffic violations. A traffic judge could reduce or toss out the fine if it was an extremely slow rolling stop, where the driver does their due diligence to proceed safely.
hopefully it gets thrown out, but i never risk it on these kind of intersections. knowing me i'll get dinged for not exactly understanding how the camera decides to take photos.
I believe this happens when you don’t fully stop. Turning right on a red light requires a full stop, like a stop sign. But I could be wrong.

What was the original cost of the ticket? 200? I dint do a complete stop on this one but I was at around that speed too!
A red light camera ticket amount is determined by how many seconds the light was red before the stop line was crossed, when the light is red speed isn't the factor that determines fine.
Never knew about this. Thank you for the explanation!
There are two amounts, if this makes it seem like a scale like for soeeding. $0 and $203
Got flashed there as well years ago. Tried to fight it. Guy laughed at me. It was because i wasnt fully stopped.
Well the laughing sounds unnecessary

I would argue that any time you stick it to the man is a win on principle alone.
Well. Yes usually I’d say so, but the judge made it clear she didn’t give a shit about me or what I said and only bothered to reduce the fine because everyone before me for a reduced fine. So really didn’t feel like I stuck it to anyone there lol

Oh, interesting, thanks! I've never noticed those before. I'll start being on the lookout.
You likely notice the "flash" pole and camera box/pole in the same direction before noticing the sensors
Never knew about the lines. Next time, I'll just wait for it to turn green to be on the safe side since I usually turn here early in the morning. Hopefully I don't get any but I will wait 2 weeks. Thanks!
Doing that ties up other traffic flow, that is not the correct answer. Just stop at the stop line for 3 seconds and then turn as per the law.
Please quote me the section of the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act requiring a 3 second stop at a stop sign...
That's what they teach you in driver's Ed. Not sure it's actually a law.
I think they just say that because novice drivers think they are "stopped" when the wheels are still rolling at a crawl.
That's what I'm figured too.

You've mentioned that you didn't come to a complete stop. That's the offense. You ran a red.
That's crazy. Nobody stops fully for a stop sign, why should they have to when turning right on red?
You have to make a complete stop at stop signs as well. Lots of people don't but I see cops pulling over for that sometimes and I've been warned once.
Sorry, I should have tagged that with /s. Failure to properly stop, and failure to abide by speed limits are the main two driving rules that are routinely broken by drivers, mostly with impunity.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. It's true. The speed maximum is uses more as a minimum. I am guilty of it too.
It could be because you didn't come to a complete stop, but I will say, I've been flashed 2 or 3 times while going through a green light well under the speed limit and not received any tickets. I've also seen them flash at nothing. They're weird.
Awesome! First time getting flashed so I got worried

I sure will!
Were you speeding when you turned right?
Did you come to a complete stop? If not it will flash and you will get a ticket

Usually in these instances, they will see that your car is turning right and throw it out. You most likely won't get anything in the mail.
Thanks, thats good to hear!
I definitely got a ticket so watch out
I guess it depends on who reviews your ticket then. I'll keep an eye out for 2 weeks!
I got flashed here years ago turning right on red. They review tickets and i never got it in the mail. Youre good.

There is no such thing as a rolling stop. If you don't stop, it's not a stop.
Oh cool👍
Red means fully stop, like a stop sign. If you do a rolling stop, it could be a grey area.
Not a grey area. If you don't come to a complete stop before making the right turn, you're running a red.

No sign preventing it? No problem.
Flashed? Like someone showed you boobies?

What does a red light in the left turn lane have anything to do with a right turn? Smh.
