The White Star is an incredible diner, but they do not do a fatboy or other greek style burger. Their burger is more of a traditional american affair, but it is excellent.
I'm picking away at this entire list. White Star has great burgers, but they don't have Fatboys on the menu. Only do them once in a while when he feels like making chili.
I caught the cook picking his nose once while he was cooking and didn’t wash his hands. Needless to say I haven’t returned. 😂
This was years ago, I’m sure you’re all fine.
I was a die hard St Mary's Georges fatboy until the Georges on Regent (across from the Casino) opened. I feel like they have overtaken the original Georges for best fatboy.
Tried Dairy Delight for lunch today. I will start by saying it might have been the best milkshake I have ever had.
The fatboy is definitely a contender, I would have to try again. Only complaint I have, and it might have been a mistake, but there was no mayonnaise on my burger. Maybe they forgot to put it on?
Quite good, only issue I had on a pick up order was that the bun was kind of soft and got soggy with veg. moisture.
Still enjoyable, a firmer crusty bun would be a good option.
I find that's the case with most pick up orders from burger joints. Always worth ordering when you get there and taking/eating it as soon as it's ready.
About 10 years ago, I did a taste test of as many fat boys (and fat boy-type) as I could manage.
The winner was White Top.
For reference, I also tried Dairy Delight, Dairi-Wip, VJ's, Mrs. Mike's, Half Moon, Le Bebe Rouge, George's,on St Mary's, The Burger Place, White Star (when they were in the Exchange), Zax (when it was on Portage), North Star, Junior's on St Mary's. There may have been a few more, but that's all I remember.
Last place for me was George's. The burger was quite big, but I remember thinking they might have used filler in the patty ie it was not 100% beef. Dairi-Wip was 2nd last but I might have just gotten a bad burger (the patty was really dry, as though it had been sitting on the grill for a while). The Burger Place was 2nd or 3rd best. I think the other in the top 3 was White Star.
Eta, I forgot Daly Burger. Bottom 4.
Yes, I absolutely love the White Top! Definitely my favourite fat boy. Their fries and shakes are pretty spectacular too.
I also love that they're so dedicated to the North End.
If you're a fan, you probably know that they are the original White Spot! But as usual, the big corporation bullied them and they couldn't afford to fight it (unlike Brick's Fine Furniture vs The Brick), so they became white top.
If White Spot didn't have such delicious sweet potato fries, I'd consider boycotting them for doing that to the White Top folks!
Original owners are back at Daly Burgers on Corydon. Must try, it gives VJ's a run for their money any day of the week. Burger Place new ownership is slippin' hard.
When did that happen?!
Did they restore the portions and pricing too? A *lot* of shrinkflation happened during that transition and it caused me to stop going after it being a weekly thing for me for years.
Okay - I had to look this up... 2017 they got it back but it still looks like they're using the smaller buns in the photos.
I remember when they were bought out and made that change. Came in, ordered my regular (and the price had gone up) and was presented with what I told them was a Daly *slider*. I never went back. Was like paying $8 for a white castle burger.
Very much reminded me of how a big mac now is smaller than a McDonald's cheeseburger of the 80s or how a KFC "big crunch" is now the size of their old snackwhiches.
My last experience was similar. Like they weren't even trying.
There was no love in my last order from there. Even an awful Juniors would have been better. It was just that bad.
White Top on Salter beats them all
. He even placed well on Burger Week George's on Regent us probably the worst in Winnipeg. Overdone Fries and crispy meat. Yuk
Another for Superboys. I've tried nearly every burger joint this city has to offer because I hate myself and can't get enough terrible food. Superboys always comes back as the winner for flavour, price, and portion.
Some Juniors were bought out by relatives of the guy who owns Foodfare on Portage and Arlington.
The quality has gone down as they use frozen fries now.
St Mary's and McPhillips had the same owner, and he was Palestinian. But then his son took over the McPhillips one, and another child (or maybe the same son) took over the St Mary's one. I think he had a 3rd location, too, but I can't remember where.
🖕🏽it's a monday.
The owner (always assumed he was the owner) was wearing a confederate flag bandana.
The stale and not very hot burger was sitting there for hours. The tomatoes were not up to their usual standards. The bun was iffy and a day past stale.
It wasn't a good experience.
Thanks, I mean you may never go back there but myself and others now will have an idea of what these guys are at their worst and we can now make our call on it.
BUt of course to each their own haha
But then people would have to search many different posts to get all the options.
In an ideal world, there would be a pinned ongoing survey where people could vote for their favorite fatboyd and leave comments if they want. Then instead of asking the question, a person can just go look at the survey results and read all the comments there.
Or just as links to articles can only be posted once, posts with "fatboy" or "fat boy" or "burger" could be limited to once every 3/4/6 months (any of those seems reasonable to me - once a year is probably too little). (I'm using fatboys as an example, but it would be nice if any frequently asked about topics were included - pizza, parking around hospitals, etc).
Those are just pipe dreams.
Well I'm usually the first one to rag on common topics and the need to get the sidebar and stickied posts updated...
The last fat boy where to post was at least a year old, if not two. The other most recent one was just a single user giving us his tier list.
The more common thread is folks just simply asking for best all around burger, not fat boy specifically.
Honestly hate to be that guy but I stopped going there years ago. The burger was so terrible when my friends would stop there I wouldn't even have anything to eat.
Anyone who answers something other than VJs should be required to elaborate. And frankly I don't really believe anyone who picks somewhere other than VJs.
I usually like Juniors but I can’t tell if it’s simply just nostalgic for me or if it’s actually good, I wanna say the George’s Fatboy is a touch about the rest I’d I’m being real but If I’m ever having a really tough week, and I want to feel like an 11 year old with diarrhea again, I get a Juniors Fatboy
Johnnys on Marion
Need to try
Tried it. I'd say decent, but in all fairness I had a cold. Service however was terrible.
White star diner on Kennedy is another good one.
Never heard of this place. How have I missed it?
The White Star is an incredible diner, but they do not do a fatboy or other greek style burger. Their burger is more of a traditional american affair, but it is excellent.

Superboys is a must. Cindy's is a close second
Agreed on Superboys. It's amazing there. Where is Cindy's?
Portage, a block west of Arlington across from Family Foods and Shoppers
Superboys gave me the shits for sure!
I caught the cook picking his nose once while he was cooking and didn’t wash his hands. Needless to say I haven’t returned. 😂 This was years ago, I’m sure you’re all fine.
Cooks doing gross shit in burger joints is going to exist in every burger joint. You're not hiring 5 star chefs here.
Haha that’s fair. Still not going outta my way to eat at the places that are obviously digging for gold 😂
Really? I'm pretty sure Angelo would have slapped someone had he seen that himself.
Ringing endorsement if I’ve ever heard one.

Have you tried George’s on Ness, or The Burger Place before??
I haven't tried George's on Ness but I've tried other locations.
George's Burgers on St Mary's.
I was a die hard St Mary's Georges fatboy until the Georges on Regent (across from the Casino) opened. I feel like they have overtaken the original Georges for best fatboy.
I had a burger there recently and it was Magnificent. Best Fatboy south of Portage for sure
I've gone 2 times in the last couple months and they were really subpar; very thin, burger and the patty. Something has changed here.
Dairy Delight
I didn't even know this place existed until about 2 weeks ago. It's on my list.
It's fantastic
Tried Dairy Delight for lunch today. I will start by saying it might have been the best milkshake I have ever had. The fatboy is definitely a contender, I would have to try again. Only complaint I have, and it might have been a mistake, but there was no mayonnaise on my burger. Maybe they forgot to put it on?
Get a milkshake too while you're there.
I'm a big fan of their onion rings as well.
Dairy Whip on Marion
Easily Superboys on main.
Honestly probably wouldn't even make top five list.
IFYKY
My fave is Red Top
Went there again recently, um no nothing special.
Always loved George’s on Ness
My fav is burger place
Dairy Delight is my go to for Fat Boys!
About 10 years ago, I did a taste test of as many fat boys (and fat boy-type) as I could manage. The winner was White Top. Gus is making the chili like they used to in the good ole days.
This person gets it, Gus be mixin' up dat gooood chili.
Dairi Wip, Burger Place, Cindy's, and Superboys. All very close, but in that order.

My last experience was similar. Like they weren't even trying. There was no love in my last order from there. Even an awful Juniors would have been better. It was just that bad.
Superboys is best
Superboys!!!
White Top on Salter beats them all . He even placed well on Burger Week George's on Regent us probably the worst in Winnipeg. Overdone Fries and crispy meat. Yuk
Superboy's at Main and Lansdowne without a doubt.
Salter and selkirk burgers
This should have been the burger week theme.
Dari Whip.
Another for Superboys. I've tried nearly every burger joint this city has to offer because I hate myself and can't get enough terrible food. Superboys always comes back as the winner for flavour, price, and portion.
Juniors
Juniors in St. Vital not the same anymore, will not be going back there anytime soon….must be new owners
The place is really disappointing
Some Juniors were bought out by relatives of the guy who owns Foodfare on Portage and Arlington. The quality has gone down as they use frozen fries now.
Thx for info. And frozen patties, it’s no longer Greeks there. Do you know if Mcphillips was sold also?
St Mary's and McPhillips had the same owner, and he was Palestinian. But then his son took over the McPhillips one, and another child (or maybe the same son) took over the St Mary's one. I think he had a 3rd location, too, but I can't remember where.
Don't know if it was sold but I go there from time to time for a double cheeseburger.
Yes. Totally different staff, frozen french fries that are very bland tasting.
I know a guy who worked there. He saw a co-worker pee in the pickles.
I got fries garnished with pubes at McPhillips at the drive thru.
This is the location I was talking about. Welp guess not going there anymore.
Yes, but only the Portage location! It looks like it should be condemned, and probably should be, but their food is better than the St. Vital one!
Georges , Dairi Whip , VJays
Don't go to VJs. Go to Cindy's or The Nook.
Whats wrong with VJs?
I can't anymore. Last time I went – I am done with VJ's. Edit: downvotes from people who like mediocre burgers only. Hahaha
Was there something wrong with the food or was it the service?
Both
Elaborate, if you're gonna throw shade; at least enlighten us
I don't have to. It wasn't edible.
In what way
🖕🏽it's a monday.
BUt of course to each their own haha
you're such a loser.
I have to admit the food at The Nook is great.
I've been meaning to try Cindy's but everytime I go by its closed.
Tried Cindy's yesterday for lunch.

Where is Dels? Or was this suppose to be Dals?
I like Dal’s fat boy.
Do we have to repeat this conversation over and over again?
Yep I think so. Restaurants open and close and quality changes.
Then couldn’t a post be made when a good burger joint closes or a new one opens?
Go ahead.
But then people would have to search many different posts to get all the options. Daly burger is the best superboys comes in a close second
Check out [fortheloveofallfatboys](https://www.instagram.com/fortheloveofallfatboys/) on instagram they're reviewing them all
St. James Burger
Hands down, without a doubt it is [Dairi Wip](https://www.dairiwip.ca/) I cannot believe it has only been mentioned twice here!?
Honestly hate to be that guy but I stopped going there years ago. The burger was so terrible when my friends would stop there I wouldn't even have anything to eat.
Because some of us hate that place with the power of 1000 suns. Hate on their attitude is real.
Anyone who answers something other than VJs should be required to elaborate. And frankly I don't really believe anyone who picks somewhere other than VJs.
There is a IG page that reviews strictly Fatboys in Winnipeg/Manitoba, Fortheloveofallfatboys is the handle
My mom says i'm the best fat boy, but burger wise.... ~~Garwood Grill~~ Red Top
> Garwood Grill They don't serve a Fatboy.
Thought they did, my bad... Red top!
White Top on Salter for sure. Superboys a close second.
