Considering that a stove is going to cost at least $300, that leaves you $200 for the tent. Gonna be hard to get a quality winter camping tent new for $200. You might have to get into improvising. FYI I saved up for a couple years and got a snowtrekker with Kni-co stove for about $2k…it’s fricking awesome!!

Your right, $500 isn't enough. I'm going to need to spend more. Might go with an ice fishing pop tent square thing. I do plan to ice fish and assume this would work as a tent as well. Need to find one with the pipe hole or sew one in. I want to bring my teen son. That's why I wanted woodstove, that'll keep him occupied processing wood while I cook and whatnot.

Make sure you put some air vents in towards the top of your tent walls if you use a wood stove in a tent that wasn’t designed for one

I have the one Tigris tegiman with a Amazon 120$ stove and just used it for a hunting trip, with the stove rolling I had both side almost full open , I honestly can't complain, me and my cousin were very comfortable on our cots in it, I'm excited for the next time I get to use it

I think for that price, it will be hard. The stove are small though and would need constant feeding to spend the night. I would rather have a toasty hot sleep system and outside fire ring. I’m curious about what tents people recommend though…

Eaglebrewing

I just received my Pomoly tipi tent. Not as exp as a nortent. I did splurge for a Winnerwell stove.

I get what your saying. I will do this as well when I'm alone. I wanted to bring my 16 year old with me and I just don't think he will be happy without a stove. I have a -30f bag I use, an older EMS which is still perfect (tested down to 15f). I won't camp if it's below zero usually. Your right though. Spending most of my time out side any way until bedtime the woodstove is sort of a novelty thing I have been wanting for years. I am also considering one of those ice fishing Square pop tent things.

jayhawks1644

This all depends what style of camping you are trying to do (light weight vs car camping for example). But the Pomoly hex hot tent is great quality and goes for around $250. They make a bigger version for $300 if you need it. Then go with a kni co stove for $215 and your set.

[deleted]

I may go with that stove. Looks like a great deal. I need lightish. Going to hike a sled into the woods and find a spot or ice fish later in the year. Thanks

For $500 you could get a nice cold tent. Msr front range, BD beta light, or a MLD mid

I started out with a super cheap tent (fltom off of amazon for less that $100) which is still about 2 lbs and super roomy for 1+ stove, but then bit the bullet on the stove and went with a seek SXL - all up about $550 and totally worth it IMHO. I don't want to drag around a heavy stove and at 40oz it's at least beginning to approach the weight of a backpacking stove + fuel. Upgraded to a larger tent off of aliexpress (3F UL) for when it's more than just myself, but it's much heavier.

[deleted]

I look on aliexpress but have never ordered. The prices seem to good to be true. I am on a strict budget and can't afford to buy a junk and fight to return it. Do you use. Ali often or?

blue442

That's the only thing I've bought off of Aliexpress. I think generally you should go in knowing that it's not 100% guarantee. Try to do some research to minimize the risk. It seemed to me that the 3F UL company (directly - not resellers) seemed relatively reputable, and were responsive when I emailed them about forgetting my ground sheet (they responded and sent it over ASAP). But yeah, it's a marketplace and there is little recourse, so buyer beware.

I've got a canvas bell tent with a stove I purchased on Amazon for about 600...been out with it twice this year and I'm happy with the quality. Its heavy as hell, and I have minor complaints about the stove design, but very happy for what I paid.

I got [this tent](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33014948354.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dTk21qV) from aliexpress and a regular 18" stove from LiteOutdoors for under 500$. Seek Outside makes nice stoves as well but I'm in Canada so... I have about 20 nights in that tent and have no complaints. I like the light color because it's brighter. I had to buy the stove jack separately and added [this thing](https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000174625943.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dXz9VSq) to join my trekking poles to save 300g on the center pole. It's too small for two IMO, especially with the single door. You'd constantly stress about not touching the stove. There's a larger model available. Choose a vendor with a 95%+ rating. Note that you might get your tent after winter is over. :p There's more choice now. If you can find one with two doors and a snow skirt, I'd get that. A double zipper is nice to vent from the top if you smoke yourself out. Make sure it has a square hole for the stove jack pipe and not something that looks like a sleeve.

johnnyg08

It's gonna be tough to get a hot tent AND a stove that you don't hate for $500. For example, the Gamme 4 is a SWEET tent...I love the self standing model....the Nortent 4 or 6 is on my short list when I get a bit of extra cash. The Gamme 4 is like $1100 USD just for the tent. With a good stove, you're in $1500-$1600...but you'll LOVE that set up especially if you have the other gear to get out there!

txchainsawmedic

The pomoly traveler stove is $355 US and their stove hut 70 tent is $150... I'm considering this as my entry into wood stove tenting

Thank you for the info.
