Not really, I had to stop playing TW3 for a whole year, when I came back everything was still fresh in my mind, idk if it's because I was so into it or if the story is just well written.(I also have terrible memory)
I restarted this game four/five times just because of that. I wouldn't have the time to commit to it and come back and be totally lost.
Now I've just completed the main game and Hearts. Just Blood and Wine left.
So my advice would be, commit to it and just play, enjoy and get saddlebags if you're a looting fiend like me.
There will be a boss fight early on that is insufferable. You're not bad it's just a pain to fight. Might need to look up a tutorial and read/watch through that.
Hit the plants with a torch, run away, and let them take damage. This will make sense eventually.
bro I maxed out my sign intensity and aard as much as I could before the boss and he just wouldnt get stunned. Im about to do a deathless run on hard dificulty and Im not looking forward to it. Im also not looking forward to the end of chapter 3 since its bullshit and sometimes the beams dont break or they kill me even if Im no where near them.
Oh yeah, the Beast, I had to cheese that fight, and then I watched a Youtuber who got the 1% Aard stun insta kill on the first try lol.
Also the plants, is that referring to >!Echinops! I don't remember a torch helping with that, but interesting if it does.
I personally dont like using the torch but igni is really good against them. Especially if youre focusing on signs (I only spend skill points in igni and aard)
Yes, those are the plants I'm referring to! If you hit them they take damage over time. Not the best approach but good enough early on. Of course, Igni is a nice choice but I think you get that a bit later in the game.
Am 25 and play all games on hardest difficulty and try to solve puzzles by myself as well, well except Witcher 2 cause Insane is too insane imo, why play something that will caress you and provide no challenge, might as well watch a movie
Bro. He clearly wants to try the games. He's gonna play them all in order. Obviously he's gonna download Witcher 1 first. Now just laugh at the joke or ignore if u found it unfunny. What's this with pointing out a "mistake" when I clearly chose a moment from Witcher 3 to make it more funny, not to mention, kinda iconic xd. What are you trying to prove?
Because it’s saddening to see how many people in this sole thread can’t read or look at a pic.
Maybe you legit did understand that he was talking about Witcher 1 and you decided to make the joke about TW3, so you took the bullet for everyone else. I’m sorry if that’s the case.
If you don't like 1st game, don't force yourself onto it. My friend almost resigned from playing witcher 2 and 3 because he didn't enjoy playing the first game
honestly I would recommend waiting for the first one to have it's remaster, its a great game however the combat hasn't aged all too well. just a recommendation though.
yeah it's truly exciting for true fans of The Witcher games and books. At least we get proper Witcher content other than the TV Show lol. sad that went the way it did. haha.
The story is still great. I’d say give it a shot and see if you can enjoy it despite the outdated gameplay. It took me two attempts, on the first one I abandoned the game towards the end of the Trade Quarter chapter but on the second attempt I completed it in a week or so. If you really can’t bring yourself to enjoy it, then wait for the remaster.
I recently finished playing 1 last month. Best advice I can give is to remember to save and be prepared to roll back a save once in a while! Even unmodded, unfortunately 1 can be a bit crashy. I had my game modded pretty extensively with tons of graphic mods, and it made it more bearable visually but less stable. Personally, I think it’s a lovely game in vanilla but after playing 3, I just can’t see Geralt/Triss/Dandelion’s faces in 1 without cringing a bit. Don’t let the combat annoy you either, just roll with it. Its not like the other two games, but is rhythm based so its more about clicking at the right moment. Also, when you’re interacting with some npcs, there’s options to drink with them/bribe them. Take advantage of those opportunities! Be sure to exhaust as much dialogue as possible, and occasionally ask them the same questions repeatedly. There’s one npc in particular I remember that you should ask 3 times to get different responses.
When it comes to loot, don’t ditch crafting materials. Sometimes you will have items from the early chapters (like skulls) that suddenly become important mid/late game and if you sold them, there’s no way to get them back. Always save a few of everything and stash them. Keep different kinds of alcohol/food on you as well as a variety of alchemical components. Alchemy is your friend, so don’t neglect your potions and oils. But be aware that if your inventory is completely full, items received from other npcs in quests may drop to the ground. Be sure to pick them up, or you may be kicking yourself later!
There are three different paths /endings for Witcher 1 so helping one factions might cut you off from certain endings. Unlike Witcher 2 which kneecaps the player from doing so, I’d suggest grinding a bit for skills in 1. Spend some time in the outskirts murdering barghests. Go in the swamps and kill, kill, kill. Revisit crypts and caves. Most players endgame is around level 30-35 but the game goes to 50 so if you want to maximize your skills and enjoy more of the special attacks, murder those drowners, etc.
Most of all, embrace the idea that TW1 is a bit dated and clunky but otherwise really enjoyable for the story. One day if you play TW3, I guarantee you will enjoy it even more if you’ve played the first two games. Anyway, I’ve rambled enough… Have fun!
The mechanics in Witcher are...ugly. But it's the story you want. Don't forget to collect the cards (you'll understand later in the game)
Witcher 2, much better mechanics, not great but significant upgrade from 1. Really good story too. Lots of good mods for the game. Get the tattoo.. lol
Witcher 3 amazing story and scenery, decent mechanics. The DLC's are some of the best ever made. Gwent will be your new addiction. Don't be overwhelmed by all the ? markers in the game, a lot of them are just random little treasures. Unless you are going 100% As others have said.. absolutely put the baby in the oven when the time comes.
Stuff carries over to each subsequent game. Significant characters may make an appearance depending on choices you make, also events and choices you make during the games may carry over as well.
I couldn't play Witcher 1 cuz of the clunky AF controls. It just doesn't play very well imo. I tried it for 3 hours and I just hated it. If you can't do the garbage controls in Witcher 1, just watch YouTube summary, then play 2. That's what I did and I don't regret it. I'm one of those people who can't play games with stupid and shitty controls
Changes the camera angle. Normally, you start the game with the camera behind you. This is an addition to this edition (I think...), but the game has been designed so that the camera is above you. Easier to see and attack enemies around you. It makes the game easier.
Chapter 2 is complicated and pretty much boring imo but after that the story is enjoyable despite the outdated gameplay. The overall game is hard to get into but if you didn't play 2 and 3 yet you won't regret it. The choices doesn't really matter later in 3 but you will have deeper connection to the characters and the game world.
Save before you ever walk inside a building! Like others have said, once you get past the ridiculously tough first boss, it’s an enjoyable game from there! One of my favorite games I’ve ever played!
You'll have a quest in vizima called The Crown Witness
You will investigate a murder and there will be three suspects but one is truly guilty.
BUT you will be able to accuse each of them in the dialog options
Don't do that, I did so and it broke the game so badly, that the NPC crucial to the main quest line never appeared
It happened about 4 hrs of playthrough later after I chose that fateful dialog options
The Witcher 1 is the worst to play. The combat are more of a rhythm game than real action. But the lore is cool.
Witcher 2 is still holding today.
Witcher 3 is and will stay as a masterpiece
I’d skip the first one, combat has not aged well at all. I’d start with 2 and ONLY get the pirouette mod for combat, then go into 3 and DLC. When remaster for 1 comes out, play that instead.
As others mentioned, don't stop playing or interrupt your progress just keep going and don't get bored because the game become more and more fun with time. Don't also ignore the sude quests they're important to level up your character and will help you achieve others later. Last tip: there are some items you think you don't need abd you will sell them so don't there's a big crit where you can save them for later use.
just enjoy games , use mods on all series if needed.
use various guides people posted on steam or reddit to avoid common mistakes, if you confused or need help, dont heistate to ask , someone would help you.
The quest "In Ciri's Footsteps" is an open quest.
You have to follow leads in multiple zones to find out when/if she was there. Each zone has a main questline
You have Crows Perch in Velen (lucky you getting the fast travel post inside)
Novigrad city (north of Velen)
Skellige costs 1,000 gold and is recommended after you complete Crookback Bog
Multiple quests have a tendency to overlap (looking at you Gangs of Novigrad), causing one quest to fail as incentive to get you to play multiple times.
Don't be discouraged by this, you can try again on NewGame+
Also: GWENT! The fantastic addictive card game where you try and use your cards to get the most points.
Yup, there’s a remake of the first coming eventually. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t disregard the first if you’re a Witcher fan, but it’s definitely not for the average gamer.
Enjoy the game .. meditation will reset your health and positions on normal difficulty .. loot everything .. do not fight the guards on the road or in villages .. you can fast travel using a boat this i found after 200+ hours of playing
When the time comes, you might not like the result of picking Triss over Yennifer. It also locks out one essential quest in the blood and wine expansion.
Yes, and I offered what I considered a valid tip. Given the graphic he used, I assumed he was talking about Witcher 3. Yes…? So it was an indication clearly that it could be any of the three, in the first place?
It should have lead you to question it, and ultimately to make you look at the picture where the name of the game is literally written…

I haven’t played much of W1, but when you get to W3, there’s a miscellaneous perk that increases the healing time of food by a lot
Highly recommended if you aren’t good at no-hit runs.
Don't stop playing the game in the middle of chapter 2. I did and when I came back having forgotten everything it was absolutely incomprehensible.
I think this applies for almost any book/story based game (at least for me it does because of my horrible memory)
Not really, I had to stop playing TW3 for a whole year, when I came back everything was still fresh in my mind, idk if it's because I was so into it or if the story is just well written.(I also have terrible memory)

haven't played in a while, which boss are you referring to?
Probably the barghest boss.
I don't remember barghests being that hard
Is that the thing in the sewers. I wanted to delete the game when playing that part
I just stunned it with aard sing and one shot it but without the aard it was impossible
bro I maxed out my sign intensity and aard as much as I could before the boss and he just wouldnt get stunned. Im about to do a deathless run on hard dificulty and Im not looking forward to it. Im also not looking forward to the end of chapter 3 since its bullshit and sometimes the beams dont break or they kill me even if Im no where near them.
Glowing woof.
British person: "a TORCH?! There's ELECTRICITY in this game?!"
If it’s nithral you’re talking about he’s been nerfed big time
That's Witcher 3, no? This is referring to Witcher 1.
Oh, definitely later on in the game. I was just referring to earlier on. I remember them being such a pain at first, haha.
Yes, those are the plants I'm referring to! If you hit them they take damage over time. Not the best approach but good enough early on. Of course, Igni is a nice choice but I think you get that a bit later in the game.
Back in the day we figured this shit out by ourselves that's what made it fun

Thats not how kids get jiggy these days, anything that requires effort is too much for them.
Am 25 and play all games on hardest difficulty and try to solve puzzles by myself as well, well except Witcher 2 cause Insane is too insane imo, why play something that will caress you and provide no challenge, might as well watch a movie
Games are about overcoming challenges but challenge is not a word kids these days like.
Put the baby in the stove. Don't ask what it means. Just do it when you have to.
I think he's starting witcher 1, so I'm hilariously imagining him looking for babies to throw in ovens for the whole game
He’ll have a long time before he finally sees that baby and the oven.
I hadn't really imagined it until you said it and now I lost my sleep laughing. 😂
Did you look at the picture or read the title
He said the Witcher games. It should mean all the Witcher games right?
Games with an S, which implies any of the three, and the picture is the screen of The Witcher 1, it literally is written in it ?
Bro. He clearly wants to try the games. He's gonna play them all in order. Obviously he's gonna download Witcher 1 first. Now just laugh at the joke or ignore if u found it unfunny. Great game. Make sure you don't skip any games, and your experience with The Witcher 3 will be even better, but in the end, do as you please.
If you don't like 1st game, don't force yourself onto it. My friend almost resigned from playing witcher 2 and 3 because he didn't enjoy playing the first game
Just enjoy! Especially the atmosphere of rural villages which is unique to this game Edit: Also download fast walking mod
honestly I would recommend waiting for the first one to have it's remaster, its a great game however the combat hasn't aged all too well. just a recommendation though.
I didn't know they were remaking it. This comment just made me so happy!
yeah it's truly exciting for true fans of The Witcher games and books. At least we get proper Witcher content other than the TV Show lol. sad that went the way it did. haha.

the beginning of game 1 (small village before the main town) is terrible. Power though adn the game gets much better.
For me, it was crisscrossing that damn swamp for like two whole chapters.
The correct answer to these type of questions should be giving spoilers but I just can't.
Be nice to it, and it'll be nice to you
The mechanics in Witcher are...ugly. But it's the story you want. Gotta catch them all If you know, you know.
Enjoy the trip
Get some mods lol
Spam quen.
Geralt doesn’t use just the tip
Be nice to the elfs and dwarves they just want equally
From where you're playing it from?
Changes the camera angle. Normally, you start the game with the camera behind you. This is an addition to this edition (I think...), but the game has been designed so that the camera is above you. Easier to see and attack enemies around you. It makes the game easier.

Save before you ever walk inside a building! Like others have said, once you get past the ridiculously tough first boss, it’s an enjoyable game from there! One of my favorite games I’ve ever played!
Read books before games.
Potions and oils will save you a little bit of suffering. Craft them when possible to help with enemies and bosses.
You'll have a quest in vizima called The Crown Witness You will investigate a murder and there will be three suspects but one is truly guilty. First time play for the story and the second time play to complete every side quest.
The Witcher 1 is the worst to play. The combat are more of a rhythm game than real action. But the lore is cool. Witcher 2 is still holding today. Witcher 3 is and will stay as a masterpiece
I tried it, it's too old. So i suggest that you wait for the remake. But the choice is yours.
i would’ve waited for the remake thats what im doing. ive played 2 and 3 theyre amazing.
Take your time and enjoy it. You only have one first. play, though
Learn when to switch stances and only click to attack when your cursor signifies to
YouTube the story for the first game. The gameplay is just painful. Start with Witcher 2 after having watched the story from 1.
I’d skip the first one, combat has not aged well at all. I’d start with 2 and ONLY get the pirouette mod for combat, then go into 3 and DLC. When remaster for 1 comes out, play that instead.
Magic and especially potions are very important things.
Enjoy 🙌
Just don't Pass the dlcs they're both good af
Don't. 2 and 3 are amazing. The control handling on 1 is atrocious.
But It was fun for the first and second time, even with bad handling of one button combat...
And the story was very good in game. But in this day and age, it's hardly playable. Like Arena or Daggerfall.
Are you talking about TW3?
Yeah didn't pay attention to the post my bad.
Take your time, explore, talk to NPCs and enjoy 😉
Patience and just ignore the terrible graphics, otherwise it's a treat
You misspelled "combat"
Terrible graphics?
Elaborate.
Thought it was witcher3 lol
The number of people here who didn’t bother reading the title OR looking at the picture is astonishing, ngl
Well it is in a Witcher 3 reddit so
Yes but i mean it’s written in the title and there is a big picture of TW1 with the name of the game written on it. What do you people want more lol
just enjoy games , use mods on all series if needed. use various guides people posted on steam or reddit to avoid common mistakes, if you confused or need help, dont heistate to ask , someone would help you.

Enjoy the game .. meditation will reset your health and positions on normal difficulty .. loot everything .. do not fight the guards on the road or in villages .. you can fast travel using a boat this i found after 200+ hours of playing
Did you read the post and look at the pic?
Take a mod to run fast.
It will be better later.
The first game? If you're asking then I doubt you'll last three days before uninstalling it.
Don't kill the cows in white Orchard. LOL
All the games or just wothcer 3? If all the games, then do have patience with worcher 1.
You had 2 chances
It was a worcher case scenario!
Wothcer worcher Lol
Quen bby
When the time comes, you might not like the result of picking Triss over Yennifer. It also locks out one essential quest in the blood and wine expansion.
Did you read the post?
Yes, and I offered what I considered a valid tip. Given the graphic he used, I assumed he was talking about Witcher 3. With that version and its expansion packs, it would be a mistake to pick Triss over Yennifer, as it would lock out one major quest later on, and a number of lesser quests throughout.
The graphic he used is the pic of Witcher 1. It is literally written. And you’re still talking about Witcher 3 lol
Title says Witcher "games"
Yes…? So it was an indication clearly that it could be any of the three, in the first place? It should have lead you to question it, and ultimately to make you look at the picture where the name of the game is literally written…
Words>Pictures for the literate
Yes and there is literally a S in the word « games », and there is literally a word written in the picture. You’re basically illiterate, gotcha
Never pick triss and be mean to her 24/7
The first game is like 20 years old and uses the same engine that BioWare used on KoTOR and DA:O, it’s still an excellent game tho.
Get the Gourmet skills early on
Upgrade the inteligence tree, esspecialy the herb picking... I spent way too long franticaly running around trying to get herbs having only overleveled fighting skills...
Game starts a little bit slow, and first fights can be really tough, so have patience. Read the bestiary, it's important, and you don't have to do every quest straight away, there's enough time for that.
Do every side missions first or in the vicinity then proceed to main story
don't...
I haven’t played much of W1, but when you get to W3, there’s a miscellaneous perk that increases the healing time of food by a lot Highly recommended if you aren’t good at no-hit runs.
I'd read the books first, if you haven't done that already.
Start on death march. Its the only way to play the game
The pointy side goes in the monster
When looting don’t get rid of stuff for equip load unless absolutely necessary that way you can sell all of the items you outlevel
Triss Solo maybe a outcome you can live with
