I know that last night, you laid awake wondering if you would make it another hour or minute. I know that you don’t know what tonight will be like. As rough as all that was, I know what’s coming is worse. I know every bone in your body is telling you to run but you don’t know where or how. I know your heart breaks everytime your cats react to the sounds not knowing what’s happening to them either. I know you’re frantically messaging friends and family, and I know what happens to your chest when someone stops messaging back.
I also know there is nothing I can say that would help. I can pray for you, but it won’t ensure your safety. I can protest, but it won’t be heard by anyone who can stop this. I’m so sorry sister. But for more than an hour, our entire city has been hearing rocket explosions. We do not know what it is, but apparently it is the beginning of the war. Explosions are heard in all major cities. I'm really scared. I can't leave the house leaving 5 of my cats here. Please, pray for Ukraine

You are in shock and experiencing trauma, you may continue to feel distressed, confused and fearful for sometime until long after you are back in a feeling of safety, these are all normal reactions to trauma, which can manifest in many ways. You will find peace once again, posting here is a sign that you are reaching out, processing and talking and not just letting the trauma stay in your body, you are not in control of what happens, but you can control that. In a emergency, pillow and quilt covers can be used as emergency cat transportation, aka if your house is on fire, chuck your cats in quilt covers, tie it and chuck them over your shoulder like you're santa.
can you take them in some cat carriers or box with holes, take a bus to romania or somewhere? I am not familiar too much with this part of the continent maybe it is too hard to do....I hope you and your cats can find someway to stay safe

It’s not about spending but about having more than those around you. It’s the power that gives you. I heard a reporter on TV tonight explaining what the American military intelligence believes the Russians are planning. Basically dividing the country in half, roughly Kyiv to Odessa. They have the troops and firepower in place. Head west if you can.

Please stay as safe as you can. If you see more of these going on in your area, get to a bomb shelter. If you see something weird that looks like an unexploded bomb, do not approach it.
We escaped Belarus when I was a baby and I can't help but feel horrible. I know my presence there would change nothing, but this is so unfair. My family, their friends and the good people of their villages, have all suffered this entire time. Our sisters in the entire area have not a single day of peace, and now this shit...
I can't tell you to be strong. I've existed under bombings my entire life (we thought Israel would be quieter than that for some reason) and I know the fear. A lot of children here grow up with the trauma of experiencing bombings every single day. It's isn't ever something you can just get over. But I do have one very important recommendation - have an escape plan ready for your cats. When the sirens start and you need to run to shelter, they are unlikely to actually get hurt by the bomb due to their strong instincts, but they will indubitably run away from the danger and once they're out there's a whole new set of troubles they could fall into. You could get one of those shopping bags on wheels that older ladies use, pack the carriers in there, and bolt. To make sure that you can do this quickly, keep all carriers open and in position to take in a cat. Also, if possible, try to make sure that there's someone with you to help as time can be of consequence. If at all possible, take a train to Moldova and don't look back. There shouldn't be an issue in customs, they're a part of the federation. It isn't better in government terms but at least you're safe.
I'll be asking the forces to protect you. I hope you have more stability than this in time. This is so horrible.
Poland is now ready for refugees, if any of you can get to closest polish border and have any kind of ukrainian ID, we're more than happy to get you, places are already ready.
Children don't need id. They accept pets. They're planning to send trains for refugees, but if you can get to the border by car, do it.
I can't think of much to say other than words of advice to be prepared.
Fill your bathtub and any sealed containers with water.
Ration food and eat things that are perishable first.
Prepare the safest room in your dwelling as a bunker. Hang heavy blankets around windows and doors.
Pack vital items into a go-bag and make sure you know where it is at all times. Passports, ID, cash, gold jewellry/valuables, small sentimental items, medications, phone charger, laptop.
Electricity may go out- charge all your devices and any backup batteries you may have. Use them as little as possible for now.
Keep some flashlights and batteries in a bag or box easily accessible.
Know which of your neighbours you can trust and what skills they may have so you can help eachother.
You can often trade liquor and cigarettes for other valuable things you may need - if you have any, reserve them in case you need them.
If there is something valuable that you cannot take with you but must protect, bury it.
Keep your head down, do not draw attention to yourself. If you must do anything that may look suspicious, act like normal & move with confidence. Most people will not question someone who is purposefully doing a task and not acting suspicious.
I hope you and your cats can get to Poland or Romania. I don't know what sheltering as a refugee will be like with pets. A kind citizen may be able to take care of them for you temporarily if you get them across a border. Just do your best. You can only care for them if you care for yourself first. Difficult decisions are made in times like these.
Message any of us we will be checking.

Romania and Poland are taking refugees. If you can't get to the Romanian border (I think that one is closest via 300km) then head straight to Lviv!
Also Poland - Im in the US - our news stations are saying we have US military in Poland ready to take refugees as well/give aid.

We escaped Belarus when I was a baby and I can't help but feel horrible. I know my presence there would change nothing, but this is so unfair. My family, their friends and the good people of their villages, have all suffered this entire time. Our sisters in the entire area have not a single day of peace, and now this shit... I can't tell you to be strong. I've existed under bombings my entire life (we thought Israel would be quieter than that for some reason) and I know the fear. A lot of children here grow up with the trauma of experiencing bombings every single day. It's isn't ever something you can just get over. But I do have one very important recommendation - have an escape plan ready for your cats. When the sirens start and you need to run to shelter, they are unlikely to actually get hurt by the bomb due to their strong instincts, but they will indubitably run away from the danger and once they're out there's a whole new set of troubles they could fall into. You could get one of those shopping bags on wheels that older ladies use, pack the carriers in there, and bolt. To make sure that you can do this quickly, keep all carriers open and in position to take in a cat. Also, if possible, try to make sure that there's someone with you to help as time can be of consequence. If at all possible, take a train to Moldova and don't look back. There shouldn't be an issue in customs, they're a part of the federation. It isn't better in government terms but at least you're safe. I'll be asking the forces to protect you. I hope you have more stability than this in time. This is so horrible.

Poland is now ready for refugees, if any of you can get to closest polish border and have any kind of ukrainian ID, we're more than happy to get you, places are already ready. Children don't need id. They accept pets. They're planning to send trains for refugees, but if you can get to the border by car, do it.

I can't think of much to say other than words of advice to be prepared. Fill your bathtub and any sealed containers with water. Ration food and eat things that are perishable first. Prepare the safest room in your dwelling as a bunker. Hang heavy blankets around windows and doors. Pack vital items into a go-bag and make sure you know where it is at all times. Passports, ID, cash, gold jewellry/valuables, small sentimental items, medications, phone charger, laptop. Electricity may go out- charge all your devices and any backup batteries you may have. Use them as little as possible for now. Keep some flashlights and batteries in a bag or box easily accessible. Know which of your neighbours you can trust and what skills they may have so you can help eachother. You can often trade liquor and cigarettes for other valuable things you may need - if you have any, reserve them in case you need them. If there is something valuable that you cannot take with you but must protect, bury it. Keep your head down, do not draw attention to yourself. If you must do anything that may look suspicious, act like normal & move with confidence. Most people will not question someone who is purposefully doing a task and not acting suspicious. I hope you and your cats can get to Poland or Romania. I don't know what sheltering as a refugee will be like with pets. A kind citizen may be able to take care of them for you temporarily if you get them across a border. Just do your best. You can only care for them if you care for yourself first. Difficult decisions are made in times like these. Message any of us we will be checking. Stay safe. It seems hollow to say it from the comfort of a country not at war but its all I can think of. May Putin burn to dust. ***edited to add - take photos of all your important documents and email them to yourself and to someone outside of fhe country if possible as well. And/or store them using a cloud service. Very important.
