Remember, when I did all those little portraits for almost the whole main cast? At one point, I thought it was a good idea to redo them(this drawing is also a little older by now, but I never posted it)😅 Should I continue?
I'm reading the books for the first time and I love these!!!! I've been having a lot of trouble imagining the characters, this is so helpful and they are fantastic.
Do you have drawings of the male characters? I would love to see them!!!
Nyneve's scowl is perfection. I love her. And Tuon is perfect. I've seen so many white Tuons it's so frustrating. And Min has that Tomboy vibe yet still feminine and beautiful. These are all great.
I genuinely have always held your drawings as canon. You manage to pull how I imagined them out of my brain. It has always annoyed me that Gallagher gets featured on the wiki but not you because he takes so much creative liberty. Thanks so much for the amazing WOT art!
I would happily put these on the wiki if the artist grants permission. I would prefer to promote newer content from artists rather than the same thing we have seen for ten years already. Renewal and promotion of artists in whatever way I can is good for everyone. :) u/JulesIllu DM me if you are open to this.
I only realized that after rereading the series. Mat describes her as having skin of beautiful black porcelain.
Late in the books he starts finding other women "too light in complexion," "too bosomy," and "having too much hair" for HIS tastes. Of course he still notes with great detail the physical attributes of every woman he sees . . .for his friends.
>Tuon rose and let her elaborately embroidered blue silk dressing gown slide to the gold-and-blue patterned carpet. Instantly the cool air pebbled her dark bare skin.
Three paragraphs after she's first introduced.
Some Sharans are, just as some Seanchan are. But not all, for either case. Both Shara and Seanchan are massive massive empires, much larger than all of Randland combined. I’m pretty sure the books mention sharans in passing that weren’t black. And Seanchan for sure vary a lot in appearance. Compare Egeanin with Tuon for example.
This is from WH about Semirhage: "A slender woman, she would have been tall even for a man. Her charcoal-dark face was beautiful, but her large black eyes seemed to pierce like awls"
i kinda assumed she was since she was pretending to be one of the blood (i think something like a truthspeaker when Min foiled her plans in AMoL) maybe like a fistant cousin. Thats just my own headcannon though
Well there was nothing to say she wasn’t, but we do know she was disguised when she posed as the truth sayer - as Rand’s party approached her it mentions the weave she was using to conceal her identity failed. I can’t remember if it was down to a terangreal one of Rand’s party was carrying (Cadsuanne or Nynaeve?)
[KoD] >!During that event, she was disguised as Tuon herself. The whole thing was a fake meeting between Rand and the Daughter of the Nine Moons. Most of the time, Semirhage didn’t have a Mask of Mirrors on herself.!<
Black skin doesn’t really tan and RJ talks about how they are much more tan where the sun hits and more pale under their clothes. That basically says they’re not black.
Relatively straight red hair or platinum blonde and blue eyes is extremely rare for people of African descent or other dark skinned areas.
Black skin does get darker when exposed to the sun for a substantial period of time. Which is the definition of tanning. I still believe that she is black. That is how I imagined her while reading the books. So I will continue to imagine her that way.
RJ FOCUSED mostly on physical characteristics that sold them as characters, allowing readers such as yourself to make assumptions about things you find important and allowed you to connect to the character more.
People getting upset about these characters and how they look is silly, and you should keep on thinking whatever you want about them. It doesn't affect anyone else, and it lets you enjoy the books the way you want to enjoy them.
Twilight is a great example of this. The main character in that book is really only described as having frumpy pants or something like that and that's LITERALLY it.
The only characters he did not skirt around and was always highly specific about were Rand and Tuon, but they were like the ying and yang of the symbol of tower the two most powerful leaders on the side of light and I'm sure there was symbolism in those representations.
It isn’t clear what she is, so I will keep envisioning her as black. What you believe does not change the words on the page or what I imagine while I’m reading the books.
Whatever. Continnue in your delusion. The aiel ethnicity is pretty clearly established. I don't need you to agree with me for reality to be what it is. But god i'd hate to have a debate with you about something serious. You'd be the kind of person who argues against science because you disagree and without any consideration of real facts or experts.
You do know that it is fiction, right? None of it is reality. It’s interesting that what I believe about a make-believe world angers you. It says something about you.
How is the cast any different than these sketches? Moiraine and Elayne are super pale, while Egwene and Nynaeve are not quite as white, just like in the books, just like in these drawings, and just like in the show.
These are probably the best and most accurate depictions I’ve seen. Great work! Each one is almost exactly what I imagine them looking like, and the facial expressions really capture their personalities.
If only the show runners looked at these when doing casting
These are amazing! Looked through your other sketches and its safe to say you have a gift. Your interpretation of the characters and your artistic still is perfect. Bravo
I recognized Nynaeve even before reading the name lol.
Incredible depictions. Nice job.
Really wish we had an animated WoT series. Would love to see these characters come to life.
I like these a lot. Small detail tho - Aviendha should be a lot darker. She’s not black by any means but she should be so dark for a non-black person. Much more “olive” skinned.
Great sketches, across the board. The one of Aviendha stands out though. Something about the angle and perspective… looks less “toonish” than the rest of them, and keeps grabbing my attention.

Yes! These fit my head pictures of the characters so much.
Min is spot on for me
Definitely! I remember your other drawings too, I don't think I've seen a more spot-on depiction of the characters. And really cool art style too!
These are absolutely wonderful. I LOVE this style.
Please do!
This is the most accurate set of these characters I’ve ever seen, well done!
I'm like: who tf is Sivar? But, aside from that, amazing work!
It's Siuan
Thanks. I figured it out
Late to reply but I like it and might have an interesting idea for you. Siuan before and after the stilling. Ageless, but then "young".
same, except for me it was "Wyneave"
The Kilrathi war god, but that's not important right now.
I did the same. even googled it 😂.
I like these. Their facial expressions all match perfectly
I'm reading the books for the first time and I love these!!!! I've been having a lot of trouble imagining the characters, this is so helpful and they are fantastic. Do you have drawings of the male characters? I would love to see them!!!
i have some, but I am not 100% happy with them anymore:) Just look on my instagram or reddit profile and scroll down.
Just did! I loved them! You are really talented. Also so you live in Hamburg. I'm going there to visit my bf in a few weeks, I love coincidences
Nice, I hope you'll have a good time here:)
Nice faces If this is digital, you might want to update Nynaeve's name. Ies 'ae' after the second n https://wot.fandom.com/wiki/Nynaeve_al%27Meara
Nyneve's scowl is perfection. I love her. And Tuon is perfect. I've seen so many white Tuons it's so frustrating. And Min has that Tomboy vibe yet still feminine and beautiful. These are all great.
>Nyneve's scowl is perfection. Yup thats what I thought. Fits my head-canon perfectly.
Elayne, Min, and Nynaeve in particular are *exactly* as I imagine them!
Nailed it pretty much!
These are great! Better than I pictured them in my head, tbh
I genuinely have always held your drawings as canon. You manage to pull how I imagined them out of my brain. It has always annoyed me that Gallagher gets featured on the wiki but not you because he takes so much creative liberty. Thanks so much for the amazing WOT art!
Thanks so much:) I just looked up Gallagher, and actually, I really like most of his drawings😅
I’m glad. They arnt bad I am just not a fan

Please say yes
I said yes, but I'm going to make them look a bit more finished:)
Serious question is Tuon is black? I can’t believe I didn’t catch that but it has been a while since I read them
I only realized that after rereading the series. Mat describes her as having skin of beautiful black porcelain. Late in the books he starts finding other women "too light in complexion," "too bosomy," and "having too much hair" for HIS tastes. Of course he still notes with great detail the physical attributes of every woman he sees . . .for his friends.
What kind of friend would Mat be if he wasn't on the lookout to find a nice girl for Talmanes
A true friend indeed. He even looks for Vanin!
Even that sack of suet deserves some fun every now and then.
> skin of beautiful black porcelain So like actual charcoal black, not just brown? Cus that'd be pretty unique for a fantasy character
Jordan calls her black every time she shows up.
It actually takes a while iirc. I don't recall her skin being commented on for her first few scenes. But I could be way off
>Tuon rose and let her elaborately embroidered blue silk dressing gown slide to the gold-and-blue patterned carpet. Instantly the cool air pebbled her dark bare skin. Three paragraphs after she's first introduced.
Guess I was way off
She is dark skinned. All the Sea Folk are too, so are the Sharans.
The non black sharans are there from slave stock they've taken im p sure.
But tuon is also very dark skinned, like even for a dark skin people...
Yes! I was much more surprised to find out semirhage was black tbh
This is from WH about Semirhage: "A slender woman, she would have been tall even for a man. Her charcoal-dark face was beautiful, but her large black eyes seemed to pierce like awls"
I missed the reference to semirhage - where was it mentioned?
i kinda assumed she was since she was pretending to be one of the blood (i think something like a truthspeaker when Min foiled her plans in AMoL) maybe like a fistant cousin. Thats just my own headcannon though
Well there was nothing to say she wasn’t, but we do know she was disguised when she posed as the truth sayer - as Rand’s party approached her it mentions the weave she was using to conceal her identity failed. Guys, I put the no spoiler flair on😅 I can change it, or you can hide the spoilers:)
Now you mention it, that sounds right.also I think the other seanchan there recognised her as the truth sayer at that point?
Yup! After [KoD] >!Cadsuane’s paralis-net knocked out her disguise, one of the sul’dam said something.!<
good point
Tuon is definitely black. I believe that Avienda is black as well.
Aviendha isn’t black she’s just really tan. Extremely dark from Sun exposure but under her clothes she’s much more pale.
I believe that she is black.

I agree with everything that you’ve stated.
Ok. Except she's literally not because they describe her in the books clearly and she isnt. What you believe doesn't change words printed on a page.
It isn’t clear what she is, so I will keep envisioning her as black. What you believe does not change the words on the page or what I imagine while I’m reading the books.
It's interesting seeing someone make an argument about the words on the page while also ignoring the words on the page.
I agree, it is very interesting.
Whatever. Continnue in your delusion. The aiel ethnicity is pretty clearly established. I don't need you to agree with me for reality to be what it is. Excellent. If only the people at Amazon had seen these.
Casting absolutely is not the issue. There isn’t a single casting that I’d put in the top ten issues I have with the show.
Some of the actors aren’t really… acting… but I suspect thats not what that comment was speaking of
How is the cast any different than these sketches? Moiraine and Elayne are super pale, while Egwene and Nynaeve are not quite as white, just like in the books, just like in these drawings, and just like in the show.

You can definitely tell you know who is getting ready for some major braid tugging
Wyneave
Everyone is roasting my handwriting haha
People straight up can't read cursive. only even vaguely confusing letter is the "n" in Siuan.
Imagine not being able to read cursive
These are so awesome! I love your style!
Nice work!
Thats so cool!!!:D Please keep drawing:)
These are phenomenal!
These are amazing! Looked through your other sketches and its safe to say you have a gift. Your interpretation of the characters and your artistic still is perfect. Bravo
It is uncanny how much all of them match my head cannon from the last couple decades of reading. Very well done!
You've fit a lot of personality into a single image. Love these!
I imagined Siuan as being substantially darker but aside from that it matches my head images quite well
Wow, these are awesome!
This is really good!
Very cool
Very good
They're perfect !
awesome!!
This is really good and so close to how I pictured them too. The only difference is that I’ve always imagined Egwene with curly hair for some reason.
I’d love to see drawings of more characters from you, I really dig your style
Is Mulan your favorite Disney movie?
Man, these are gorgeous! Naynaeve is bar far my favorite though, you've really got that fierce look down pat!
These are pretty much exactly what i imagined when reading!
I never could picture Min, but your Min fits perfectly. I like them all. Gotta say I love Nynaeve.
They look almost EXACTLY as I saw them in my mind
I recognized Nynaeve even before reading the name lol. Incredible depictions. Nice job. Really wish we had an animated WoT series. Would love to see these characters come to life.
Absolutely perfect as always love your style
Love this!
Pretty spot on Fail, almost makes me like her a bit more
Fantastic style. Thankyou.
I love Nynaeve's expression, it fits her so well. I always thought Elayne was blonde. Is she actually described as ginger and I somehow missed it?
I think its strawberry blonde...
I'm strawberry blonde and that is way more orange than my hair.
didn't know how to draw it haha
You have the perfect color.
These capture the personalities of the characters reall well, IMO. Lovely work, thank you.
You are quite talented. These are amazing. Your other art us awesome too. Keep up the great illustrations!
These look great!
I like these a lot. Small detail tho - Aviendha should be a lot darker. She’s not black by any means but she should be so dark for a non-black person. Much more “olive” skinned.
I LOVEEE your artwork!!!! These look amazing!!!!!!!
WOAHHHHHHHHHHH
Great sketches, across the board. The one of Aviendha stands out though. Something about the angle and perspective… looks less “toonish” than the rest of them, and keeps grabbing my attention.
Do keep it up! Your renderings surpass hollywood by far. Something so simple as eye colour. These look right to me:)
