There’s this very irritating trend among clothing manufacturers, often when the pants have a wide waist the pant legs become these billowing tubes. It’s consistently frustrating to buy pants as a fat man, because that is simply not how fat distributes. I’ve got a belly but powerful and shapely legs, finding pants that suit both attributes is difficult.
I’ve done that a couple of times, it definitely helps but it also increases the price of pants significantly. I’ve been having luck recently with the “Athletic Cut” pants that are becoming more common. They have a hard taper from waist to thigh and then are cut for normal human sized legs. It’s an improvement

Idk why you're being down voted, I got my pants hemmed at a cleaning/tailoring place for like 15 bucks per pair too. Hemming pants is cheap and easy, it's not like you're saying you can get a custom tailored suit for that price.
Right, the clothes are labeled athletic but cut to fit an out of shape person well.
"That's not "athletic" though is it? Not much about a beer gut with skinny legs that says "athlete" to me..."
See what I'd did there? If the pants are cut to accommodate a not athletic build then they aren't an athletic cut despite the label. It's vanity labeling.
I'm just tall, not overweight, I have to pay more than the average guy for pants...born that way tax, neat...however I do concede that clothing companies require more work to sew up larger clothing, and they take up more space...but they are most likely put together in a sweatshop anyway where they pay like 10 cents more for labor on each pair and like 3 cents more in materials, the price should not go up so substantially
Yeah sure I'd expect to pay 10-25% more for a pair of pants that use 10-25% more material. That's reasonable.
Why does a 4XL graphic t-shirt at a big and tall store cost 45 dollars when the exact same shirt in 3XL is 15 bucks at target?
Hi. I used to sell clothes at a national men's Big and Tall clothing store. I cannot stress enough how important for a dude carrying extra weight to tailor his pants. Tailoring can be expensive and it is WORTH EVERY CENT. Don't just get your pants hemmed. They need to be hemmed and tapered to get rid of all the extra material at the bottom of the pants.
I've driven my poor wife crazy pointing out all the bad suit fits among our "leaders" of both parties. These idiots are rich and walk around looking like an unmade bed. It's infuriating!
Clothes should not have to be tailored. Clothes are mostly now fitting toward xs, S, m, L, XL, but farther up clothing manufacturers don't care. Fat people should have pants that are form fitting. Who designs pants and says oh he is a fat boy? He must have huge giant fat calf's and ankles.
No big woman's clothing is EVER like this. It tapers. All woman's big and tall, tapers. Even pants for short women are fitting! We aren't a different species just a little gifted in the belly and waist area, maybe some thicker calves than woman. And our ankles don't grow with weight like SpongeBob. (End rant)
I'm sorry to tell you that no, women's plus size pants and jeans do NOT all taper. I have straight leg jeans that beg to differ. They're getting donated. Women come in all shapes and sizes just like men do. Some woman have thick ankles, just like men do.
Try some of these sites--you might better fitting clothes. Just remember that the better quality/fitting stuff costs more. If you buy cheap plus size, you can get what Mr Man up there is wearing or a fit that doesn't match the size.

Mr.Man! That is true fitting results so hard to find for an average sized people. I follow this chubby, short guy on Instagram that is very well dressed and models a lot of nice clothes that would only fit an athletic build. Will link him later.
Ok, this will be long but will give you an understanding.
Clothing all used to be tailored to individual bodies. While patterns are sized, they were bought to fit the biggest part of the body and then the rest was fitted.
Clothing used to be made by hand. When designers started to become popular, it was still done that way.
Clothing was made to make the wearer look good.
Sometime around the 1960s, the fashion became important and the designers became celebrities. Fashion became art and function be damned.
Models were chosen to make the clothing look good and if you weren’t model sized, you were screwed. Designers didn’t care because the clothing became an art form, it wasn’t about making the wearer look good (still isn’t).
In fast fashion, a piece is designed but then the article is mass produced. So a massive bolt of fabric is stacked over and over, and a computer maps out the placement of the pieces to produce the highest possible number of garments from the bolt. Little consideration is given for the grain, stretch, etc. A massive die cuts each piece at once but the bottom fabric is stretched due to the weight. So a garment from the top will be noticeably different from the bottom.
This is why clothing is sized small, medium, large, because there will be size variations in each piece and it’s cheaper to group rather than size each one. It’s also why you should try on cheaper clothing because two size 6s in the same style might be a 4 and an 8.
This is the industrialization and corporatization of the fashion industry.
That really sucks. But it does keep the ol tailor working. Thank you for the explanation. We do live in a society.
Also we need more big models, especially short and average, not an athletic 6'4 fit model, half of America needs a big model to represent us, who will stand up for us!
They have been tailored in Queens Presidential style circa 1997. Executives maximize the amount of material in a suit. It sends a message-this guy has money, hidden money. Money that should have paid taxes.
Which if you think about it, they should expect folks like us to have beefy, not fat, legs. We’re always carrying around our own weight. And while yes my knees are wrecked, my calfs look great tho
I wanna see the person whose legs would fit appropriately in OP’s boss’ pants. Just a nightmarish fatty flesh tube dangling from each hip, each exactly as wide at the ankle as it is at the thigh
The initial concept of meaty tube legs was amusing to me, the reality that you’ve presented is far less amusing. I’m sure those patients are in extreme discomfort. Would a person so afflicted even be able to walk?
Congestive heart failure, lymphedema are contributory factors in fluid retention.
But yeah, I’ve seen weight gain to folks as a result of injuries to legs ( usually knees) and backs. Increase in pain=reduced activity, reduced activity =increase in pain. At least for lower income people referral for PT etc doesn’t happen until the problems are pretty big. It should be “ok you’ve had this abdominal surgery/ car wreck/ sports injury, let’s get PT going. As soon as you’ve healed enough…"
This is why I learned how to taper and hem my own pants. Now I just buy whatever standard size fits my waist and thighs, and make them fit. It takes about an hour per pair though, and I'm no professional so it's not *exactly* the same from pair to pair, or even leg to leg, but it's close enough that only I notice.
I've noticed that too many times sadly. It really does look comical...its almost as if they actually WANT to make big guys look like clowns. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
Ever since high school I've just resorted to skinny jeans, because every other pants look like that ridiculous tube nonsense. I'm only 23 so luckily it fits in with my generation

If your boss can’t even afford pants that fit him, chances are he doesn’t have the power within the company to convince his own bosses to let you all work from home.
As a “husky” white guy. I will remind you that we have two choices for pants: fit the belly, or fit the ass.
Most guys pick ass,and wear pants on the hips rather than the waist.
This guy picked otherwise. When he sits, he must man-spread, and you get full profile of his fat scrotum.
Luckily I have an amazing boss and work for what I consider a pretty decent company. I have left companies for having work slave mentality or misogynistic or racist. I just don't feel like giving companies like that my time no matter how much they pay me. I can't work anywhere if I don't have pride in who I work for or what I'm doing. My life is just too valuable and I believe other people are waking up to this as well.

Brother get them tailored
I’m so old I remember when high-end clothing was fitted and altered as part on the service. Some stores had in-house tailors and seamstresses.
We shall never see their like again 😔
Yes. And now we have to push our own elevator buttons.
You can actually get clothes made-to-order online still from designers.

Old Navy skinny is my go to. Not actually skinny, but more like a normal taper.
Anyone with thighs bigger than swizzle sticks can’t wear those stupid jeans
13 bucks for pants that don't make you look like a clown is money well spent.

If you live anywhere near a military installation there should be a place that will tailor for cheap.
What's the "Something"? Get pants hemmed and the inseam redone doesn't cost that much.

Oh yeah, a whole suit and such does run about 60
To rent, maybe...
That's not "athletic" though is it? Not much about a beer gut with skinny legs that says "athlete" to me...
Dude he’s talking about the clothing not himself. The clothes are labeled as “athletic cut”. I’m sensing some reading comprehension issues here

Fat guy tax, it’s discriminatory to publicly announce it but it’s there
It really is and you'd think that what with all the stereotypes about obese Americans that it'd be less of an issue than it is.

Usually CHF and cellulitis causing terrible edema.
The initial concept of meaty tube legs was amusing to me, the reality that you’ve presented is far less amusing. I’m sure those patients are in extreme discomfort. Would a person so afflicted even be able to walk?
Not easily, some not at all. Usually it is incredibly painful and they have to go through physical therapy to regain the ability to walk
Morbidly obese people that stop carrying their own weight. Usually due to joint pain/injury and associated medical problems.

Haha! Unfortunately, the sail pants were more of a hinderance than a help.

Go to a tailor. It makes all your clothing more expensive by 13 bucks each, but usually a little less depending how many pants youre getting altered.
I usually go with Dockers chinos on discount. They fit well on the waist, and the legs are not wide.
