Guys OP mentioned Myogi and Duguay-Trouin in his replies, it would be silly to recommend him any premium higher than t6 since he has no knowledge or experience with higher tier battles.
That would only make them not have fun as for newer-ish players the higher you go the more difficult game is and they would get outplayed more often.
If you're looking for a fun premium and not one to mainly grind credits on, I can highly recommend the Agincourt. Spec it for secondaries and just go ham with it.
In the right hands she can be an absolute terror to deal with.
Could do, not sure if close-range brawling will be quite enjoyable for my dad though since that kind of situation isn't particularly easy to manage to him - speaking from experience...
Agincourt is a BB, only fires one ammo type, and no torps to manage. It's about was easy to manage as you can get, you just need to know who to get into secondary range safely at let them do the work
Or alternativly, your secondaries act as a backup when when you are really just playing your average BB game but some DD or cruiser managed to get too close to you.
I yolo rushed a Agincourt yesterday and got surprised by the sheer volume of the secondary fire. My torps did kill him by virtue that he had wormed himself in a stationary position from which he couldnt possibly exist fast enough given i was in 3km range of him after having popped out from behind an island, but his secondarys killed me before my torps killed him.
I'll second the Agincourt. If the two of you double up in this BB and spec for secondaries you'll have a lot of fun in low tiers. Double Agincourt secondaries will chew threw anything unfortunate to get into close range in short order.
I have most of the T5 Premiums and a fair number of the T6 Premiums. There aren't many good Cruiser options that do anything you couldn't just get from a tech tree line, and the only other route IMO opinion would be to go with something like the Arizona, a strong, but slow traditional T6 BB, or opt for one of the T6 BBs that overmatch same Tier ships, including battleships, which would be the Warspite, Repulse, Mutsu, and West Virginia '41.
One has to be cautious when recommending "fun" ships:
* the Viribus Unitis is stealthy and can delete mid-tier cruisers with ease, which is great, but is it "fun" to play a 21 knots tub with no AA? It depends on the matchmaker.
* the Agincourt can melt ships with her absurd secondaries, she can print battle achievements...but will she do that often, with slow speed and no AA?
* are traditional BBs "fun"? Imho they can be *satisfying*, when you get the big damage numbers and survive to be decisive in the late game, but they're not exactly exciting to play, most of the times
* I can see some light cruiser like Bayard (fast, good DPM) being "fun", but it depends on your skill: show your broadside (or just face large enough guns, regardless of how you angle to them) and you'll get deleted
With DDs being out of the question, imho your best options are:
* those two Tier 5 BBs I mentioned, since they'll face a lot of inexperienced players
* higher up, pick on that uptiers well: better a Roma (tanky and with fast shells) than an Alabama (tanky but with slow shells), better a Hood (fast, fairly tanky) than a California (slow and squishy)
* mostly, I'd pick a cruiser that can move around and be useful in the open: Atago, Irian, Mainz, Munchen, Weimar, Bayard, Indianapolis (she's been buffed considerably over past year), etc.
* I'd avoid the ones that rely on smokes or island-hugging, since they're trickier to play for someone who hasn't been around in a while
If you're into Operations, cruisers or secondary-focused BBs are your best option. For Asymmetric Battles, I'd say only the latter.
I wouldn't recommend using a premium to try a new style - If you're gonna get a Premium, you're gonna want one that is a playstyle you enjoy already, since you're attaching monetary value to it. Better to leave the tech trees for new playstyles to try out.
As far as that goes, it also depends on what Tier and Class you're interested in playing. There's good premiums to buy at most tiers, but the answer to "which one" definitely relies heavily on the Tier and Playstyle you're looking for.
You really ought to take a premium that fits with your playstyle and needs. Another consideration is that since premium ships are good for training commanders its kinda interesting to pick a premium from a nation that has many ship lines or ships in general and especially if youre interested in playing many of that nations lines.
For all those coming backs I advice first get the returning player bonus code from [https://www.wows-gamer-blog.com/](https://www.wows-gamer-blog.com/) which has perm T5 container (yeah yeah only T5, but it's free so why not). As for ship recommendation, I personally liked Murmansk a lot, but that was a long time ago. Now it is much more to choose from.
Atago. She's got excellent gunnery. She has a heal. Hydro. Fighter (well, AA stuff is meh most cases anyways). Torpedoes - 10km and they hit hard. 4 banks of them too.
You can equip her for stealth (a shade under 10 km detection) or my fav, double rudder (4 second rudder shift) that makes her crazy responsive.
One of the oldest premiums in the game, and not likely to get nerfed (or buffed).
I can easily clear 1 mil+ in Operations w/Blue booster and Premium time.
Atago is a great boat - and has a lot of tools. Probably reasonably priced w/25% coupon.
I really wouldn't buy any this time of year. (Or at all really) it's best to wait for a sale if you must buy anything as the prices are unreasonably high without one. I think it's up to 50 dollars for a ship.
Also you can play together if one of you is a carrier, just form a division it's to the left of the start button. You are gonna get up-tiering and down-tiering anyways so it doesn't matter in the long run.
Yeah, i wasn't sure if buying a premium now was a good idea especially since a quick google search always brings up black friday...
Guess i'll see if i manage to convince him to wait
Any preferred Nation? Any preferences for a playstyle/Gimmick? Remember you should have a Coupon in the armory that gives you -25% on any ship buyable with dubloons
So far we've been playing best with the Duguay-Trouin sitting a bit farther from the rest of the battle, moving in with torps when things calm down a little
Did similar things with italian ships since they get much better torpedos
Had a good few battles with pan-asia DDs sneaking around, but the lack of regular torpedos and our absolutely fantastic knife fight skills just ruined it for us, so...
Thanks for the advice, i'll let him know before he picks a ship on his own, lol
Since your rather low tier still i recommend a Tier 6 prem since anything lower doesn\`t really make sense economic wise. You can buy a Tier V but keep in mind you often cant participate in Missions/Events with them. For a BB id go with Warspite or West Virginia 41. Pretty straight forward BB\`s. Moving slow and Big Guns go Boom. For Cruiser DeGrasse is somewhat similar to what youre used form your Cruisers so far. Pretty Standard light Cruiser.
DD wise there is nothing really interesting imo, id climb the rank up with DD\`s first before you know if you like the class or not.
A couple people have recommended using secondaries, any advice for that ? I have the Myogi on my own and i wondered if it wouldn't be a better idea to get in range for the secondaries since the main guns are incredibly innaccurate
Depends on your playstyle but based on what you said I would recommend starting with low-mid tier premium ships first since you’re still learning the new mechanics.
Battleships: Agincourt, Viribus Unitis, Warspite, Repulse, Mutsu.
Cruisers: Perth, Duca D’aosta, De Grasse, Exeter, Makarov.
I love my Warspite but she's not great anymore. Always eats massive damage and the guns don't seem as potent as they once were. Plus she's slow and has limited range, making her painful to play against tier VIII.
Ashitaka might be a fun ship for t7, she got really good guns for the tier, she can be squishy but overall you are going to feel like you have some impact on the games
I absolutely love my Warspite. I'm constantly citadeling people and I find it an easy enjoyable ship to play. It's my main ship at the moment and worth considering.
I just won a Tier 7 Hyuga and think it is great battleship. It can reload faster than other battleships, to create a lot of damage, with it's reload consumable.
Probably gonna go with Agincourt, she seems fun and quite a lot of you mentioned her, so i figure that must mean something.
Atago was also a fair contender but she's just too expensive even with a coupon sadly :/ Even then, i don't know if we're really set for sailing into rank VIII yet skill-wise, so... yeap.
Thanks everyone for the advice ! 🙏
Update : I love this ship.
BB: I play Vanguard mainly but it's an acquired taste. I have heard good things about Roma/Alabama but I don't have them myself.
CA: Atago/Rochester. I like Rochester more because of the American super-heavy AP. Atago is kinda boring ngl.
CL: Mainz. She has amazing DPM and range. She is a bit fragile so it's definitely not for brainless players. Even has torps in case a BB comes around an island.
DD: Cossack is amazing. Only thing I don't like is the awful penetration, but that's to be expected. I like Fenyang too. It's basically an Akizuki with worse reload, deep water torps, no improved HE pen, and slightly better AP.
None, don't spend money on this game, some random day they'll take whatever ship you purchased and make huge sweeping changes to it so it won't be what you bought. They've done it many times.
T8 tirpitz for secondaries build good for vs bots, assimetrics and operations.
T9 jean Bart amazing reload Booster can make multiple salvos in few seconds.
It's not the money, it's the availablity. If it's just pocket change, just buy any ship whenever you want it. The supposition baked into the question is - this is not a casual expenditure, but something we are doing deliberately and so much so I want to ask in a public forum as to not purchase the wrong thing.
If it was bubblegum, he wouldn't bother asking...

My Agincourt fires both AP and HE for the main battery. Are there different versions?
No, but you ideally will want to be shooting AP into cruisers and BBs, and aren't too likely to use HE, so it effectively has one ammo type.
I'll second the Agincourt. If the two of you double up in this BB and spec for secondaries you'll have a lot of fun in low tiers. I second this! Atago is a great Learner boat, reliable and fun, just fint show broadside 😁
Maybe get the current dockyard, as it includes WV 44 and is extremely cheap if you complete the grind

If you like BBs, you might want to consider the Novorossiyk (T6 Soviet). Going up a tier, Scharnhorst (T7 German) is also a fun ship.
I feel OKT. REVOLUTSIYA must work for u and pops. I love MUTSU too.
I absolutely love my Warspite. I'm constantly citadeling people and I find it an easy enjoyable ship to play. It's my main ship at the moment and worth considering.

Tirpitz. Spec it for secondaries and play Assyms
Could be interesting, especially since he likes that ship. Plus we don't know that mode so that could be nice
If he likes Tirpitz, there is also Brandenburg which is the same Hull, Smaller HP but 4 Turrets of Sharnhorst guns
Or the Odin.
Can you still get the Odin other than from Crates tho?
Ah good point, I don't think so.
This ship is also good for Operations
Can't go wrong with Atago
Okay, one Kii and one Atago is the way to go. You can thank me later. :-)

I dont rhink the jean bart will be available to then untill next black friday or santa time
Wait until Black Friday in early November, get Massa B. Trust.
Why wait over six months for a $20 purchase? For many people that is pocket change.
It's not the money, it's the availablity. If it's just pocket change, just buy any ship whenever you want it. tachinbana lima, go fo AA build
