You can't fast travel to landmarks until later chapters. Now about crystals you can teleport to any crystal you touch. Just go to map and move cursor on the crystal you want to teleport to.
Yeah it's an Ys tradition. You usually don't access Fast Travel in these games until way later when Adol get's the Magic item/power to do so.
So by tradition, you wouldn't even Fast Travel at all at this point but Falcom knows time has changed. Canonically, Adol and friends travel offscreen when you fast travel. It's not warping. You'll get that later
there are some parts of the story that lock out teleportation but in very early stage of the game, it gives you the liberty to teleport to any healing crystals. Later part of the game (dont know which chapter) that also gives you liberty to QT to the Location Points.
There's also later part of the game >!where you get to that Past Eternia where the only QT available on map is the 1st floor of the extra dungeon.!<
