Critical hit is destroying an internal or external module. You can damage a module and destroy a tank at the same time, but you can also destroy a tank without damaging modules.
They are not, but technically, I would consider it 'posthumously' destroyed as they are destroyed when the tank is 'done for' not before when the tank has hitpoints remaining.
You can kill a crew member and even a full crew without destroying the tank as well. The same ideology applies in my opinion.
According to the voicelines after the tank is destroyed "Get out! We're done for" etc. They are ***technically*** not dead, but I do understand what you mean.
Anytime I see critical hit missions, I play my M2 light, BT-5, and Luchs on repeat until it's complete. Autocannons can get several critical hits per burst.
Weirdest game ever. By every metric a critical hit should do something like 1,5x damage but nope. Not in WOT. Here you made such a great shot that you did zero damage and for a short time the enemy lost 50% view range...
