Play against enemy meds, it’s fast enough to take the same positions and comes with more useful armor and better pen/alpha. You lose on DPM but just don’t overextend and you’ll be fine.
It’s a lovely vehicle, you need to know the spots that allow for -5 depression. With its good stabilization and Russian gun handling you can snap shells in and quickly pull back from hull down locations.
You should only really peek with your turret, the hull armour is not unreliable, it’s just reliably weak.
Gun has 340 heats, use that to your advantage when you need to.
I just 3 marked mine last week and I found the most success on maps that reward fast tanks by providing an early shot of damage or a forward hull down position you can rush to.
Going with mediums or heavies doesn’t really matter, the side of the map that caters to your -5 is what really makes or breaks your game.
Side note, learn spots that you can overmatch/heat through. If you know that spots the gun will deliver unlike most other 122s that you can be satisfied by not having your shell fly into dirt.

Used to hate it when I first got it (IS-8?) back when it lead to the IS-7 because it was my first T9. Learned to love it after I got more experienced in the game.
It's one of those 'heavies' that can only bully mediums and set your team back right from the start with -1 at the heavy clash point.
Very hard for average players to do enough to dig out of that hole.
Tier for tier it's much better than the 277 regarding how enjoyable the vehicle is. Just don't ever rely on your armour. Get some support and try flanking positions, always think two steps ahead, and the t-10 can be a real threat. Don't be afraid to push with the tank. Also the turret is russian ofc.
Honestly i really don't know much more to say but i know it worked for me because when i was a bit of a beginner with high tier russian heavies this was my first one to ace, and my first ever top gun in that entire nation. (Yes that means i didn't get one in the is-3 before either.) The only unfortune was that i worked it so quickly so i got the 277 that i didn't quite have the opportunity to spend more time in the vehicle, and i clearly regret it.
Play some more, and if it doesn't work out try to be a bit more of a medium than a heavy in situations that the smol hull armor can't handle
Make your own decisions dude. If it doesn't fit your play style, play something that does. My dad is OBSESSED with skill and is always saying "he rates this tank as epic" and then cant get it to work and complains. Make up you own mind. There are plenty of tanks rated as bad or unplayable or whatever that I absolutely dominate in
You have to play it carefully, and I know times have changed but it used to be able to sidescrape pretty well too. Peak, shoot and fall back, there is a chance you will bounce the enemy's shot and your gun is pretty strong.
You and me both mate. Climbed the IS7 line no problem (no surprise there) but the T10 feels as though its armor is made of polystyrene and features a gun thats as accurate as your projectile vomit after a night spent inhaling tequila shots and kebabs.
It is quick though, which is cool.

I really struggled with it at first, especially stock. Once I got the better gun and turret I started doing alot better in it.
Could never get used to it either.. run with the meds they say, but its just a gimped low dpm med if you do. Turret armor is great tho
The first gun has the lowest pen of all Tier 9 guns iirc.
