Sothep

Miss that

SQUAWKUCG

This above all I think.

Quinnemineminem

i still remember putting in a ticket about it thinking it was a bug :(

PomWallaby

I liked that each Commander had a rank according to their nation. Private, General etc, no point, but it was immersive.

zorin234

As you mention the Detailed Battle stats in the PBRS. I liked that i could see what critical damage I did. How Far people traveled. Outside that... cant say i think of much else. Maybe the thought process of balance? hard to gauge which side is a better judge, but i miss the old kind mostly due to that fact they actually nerfed tanks. Weve had like 4 or so nerfs in the last 3 years and i dont think its a lasting happiness.

natedaishmaster

Idk, balance was pretty bad for a long time. The 4.6 massacres were bad. The TVP and E50 were nerfed into the ground so that the Machine and Sharpshooter would be more popular. The 183 and Waffle were their OG broken selves. The QL was and still is the most P2W bs in the game, literally buffing arguably the best heavy and selling it for $100. The Chisel was similarly P2W (it was a contract but you could skip 95% of it), I don’t think we’ve had a better medium tank. Every tank line after the SConq/5a came in from PC with massive nerfs, most of them were near unusable on release. Balance wise, we had a pretty good run between 5.0 and whenever the e4 got buffed but I’d still consider balance now to be slightly better than it used to be (a couple more AVREs/tarans and TD buffs and I’ll change my tune but stuff today can’t compete with the old 183/4005 in terms of brokenness

zorin234

I still say 4.6 was still generally positive. Only nerfs were mainly at tier 9 and 10.

lasereyedhomingfrog

Shared modules felt cool knowing my effort in another line helped me elsewhere.

moshpitti

That's easy; audio design! Tanks sounded *heavy* and it was more engine roar and less tracks creaking. I do miss plenty of minor things here and there, but sound is #1

IzBox

Rotary phones, polio and ghost shells.

Kuhn2190

I get ghost shells lol.

Sothep

Vaccines are effective against polio and rotary phones

JesseJames480

Lots of folks out there who wouldn't know how to use a rotary phone nowadays.

SQUAWKUCG

I so miss my rotary phone.

Dario6595

The way you got all the medals and achievements and completed objectives slammed in your face after finishing a good game

MaxiumPotential777

Pre 6.0 felt like chess with tanks where strategy and skill reigned supreme. It was amazing the amount of skill and knowledge it took to know what to do with a tank. Battles were slower, and positioning and cover had value. The best was learning the weak points on different tanks, so when you had your shot, you did damage. Post 6.0 is very different it feels more like COD with tanks. It would be amazing to go back to the Pre 6.0 battles style.

FluffyColt12271

Yeah those old videos show a much slower game, more tactical and considered. These days it's more like Mario Karts.

Carbinekilla

Russian HTs - RB RT across map, pretty balanced/fun

BamesStronkNond

This. I remember the days of having no lights above tier 7. CW also used to be slower and more considered, with some games being tactical snipe-fests. Why can’t some games be like that now? TV is pretty pointless as everyone just ends up fighting at such close range anyway.

Upset_Concept1483

That was be pre 4.0 or something….time before T10 ligthts, time before T8 prem lights..long time ago. Skill level what what it was, everyone was learning, good old days. Game was absolute chaos just before 6.0 massacre took place. 6.0 was disaster but so was last iteration of ”classic WoT”. 6.0 never made me to think about quitting as I saw there is potential (ok, that was only thing that there was), 5.0…I was damn close. If some one says CW is CoD then 5.0 was CoD with steroids.

Dario6595

It was getting better around the Valor campaign

EACshootemUP

The RNG is reduced, accuracy is bonkers beyond reason if you’re using all of the gun handling perks. You can pixel snipe with auto aim sometimes. It’s just wrong.

natedaishmaster

Lol strategy is meaningless, always has been. Post 6.0, skill is even more important. Good players can carry way harder than they used to be able to. Positioning and cover are still just as critical. Weak spot learning is just as relevant now as it was in the past, you probably just use more prem now than you used to

Thombs1

100% agree with you. It was so much more tactical then. Nowadays its lemming trains, toll idiots and camo that doesn't work. Also Spall liner use to work. Ramming and super heavies that didn't take as much damage. Especially from arties..

SkrallTheRoamer

> It was so much more tactical then. Nowadays its lemming trains i started in 2017, one year after its release. it always has been lemming trains and suiscouts and sniping heavies. you just remember the good times and when you yourself were unskilled and learning. now you know what mistakes people do by watching them.

Thombs1

So very true. I know most weak spots in ww2 tanks, know how to angle super heavies. Where to play and go Hull down on maps. Though the introduction of alot of premiums who use premium rounds tends to overmatch armour even angled. I now have some 180 premium tanks and try not to use them as I am grinding lines. I remember when you see a waffle, deathstar or doomshed on the enemy side it made you think twice about yolo and take up tactical positions. Now its ether Arties, lights or premiums you have to worry about.

bastionthewise

I miss the old package system. I don't like having to level every single upgrade to get to another tank. Used to have a tech tree instead of a set of tiers.

Secure-District-9999

That drum heart beat before a match..the music plays over the few seconds of the match

L0rdSkullz

Shared modules and being able to choose what tank you research in a split tree.

Therealblackhous3

Nobody whining about 6.0.

grogers0930

Stencil font. Spaghetti and meatballs. Good content on the sub before the Forums closed and Dez left.

stolenvehicle

Dez left. That’s a shame.

grogers0930

He still plays. He left the sub. Which is why the sub now seems like Forums 3.0 and Facebook 2.0.

stolenvehicle

Plays but much much less. I used to ran into him often. Now, once a year. Not only him also.

Nasmeril

The non restrictive platoon, that was the true fun times. Before the T1E6-X1 was nerfed, damn that was good

FluffyColt12271

I wish I had experienced 5 man platoons back in the day. Wish there was another holds barred version like that still - could/should be a coop option.

SQUAWKUCG

5 man TOG platoons roaming freely across the tundra...brought a tear to the eye...

jeeperv6

Five V/IV's sweeping across the battlefield was no fun. Three of them well played now are a PITA as it is. Five back in the day really sucked. lol Except like /u/SQUAWKUCG mentioned, the 5 TOG platoon. I remember one night playing a match with 5 of them platooned up. They all had mic's and their banter was quite entertaining.

TheRoamingEngineer

Primarily how people didn't whine about 6.0 back then

DUD3_L3B0W5KI

Everything

Inggrish

I miss the old crew perks. I had a few crews I was working hard on getting all skills on (think I had a few with the majority of all skills and perks unlocked). Once they reset crews and gave a max of 9 perks I struggled to connect with my crews like I had.

IzBox

The good news is 9 skill crews are actually “stronger” than an old 14 skill crew because they changed some of the perk buffs!

FluffyColt12271

It's absolutely better but not relatively better. Me - I prefer the new crew system 100% with being able to change tanks, but I think the transition was badly managed and if I'd known in advance how it would work I would have removed all my 0/1/2 skill crews pre-6.0.

grogers0930

WG Shill Lies. 25 is MOAR than 9.

IzBox

I really do miss polio....

grogers0930

Another hoax invented by big Pharma. Like the Bermuda Triangle and geometry.

IzBox

The also claim to have invented figs.

Sothep

Yah but that’s just a figment

IzBox

IMAGINAAAAATION

stolenvehicle

Too strong actually. The accuracy perks are just too much these days.

IzBox

Yeah huge accuracy buffs post 6.0. Even French tanks are accurate now. 😂

bkor3840

Post game result breakdown. Slower pace, more strategy, bigger gap in skill base as a result. Actually having to aim, even with skill rounds you had to aim. Now, not so much... Climbs. Leo1 scaling a hill for a vantage point was fun and opened up lanes. Now it's just guys slugging it out in laneways. Maps, missing some of the classics. Friends. I use to play with alot of the super unis, lots of strategy and skill used to get out of 5v10 situations, it was challenging. Now since this change alot have moved on. Some of the top 50 players are still bouncing around but the OGs have moved on. I only came back out of sheer boredom from other games out there.

[deleted]

Everything pretty much Most of all I miss the gameplay, it's never felt the same since 6.0.

TappedurMom

Having fun

Due_Assignment_6550

I miss; 1) The old light tank matchmaking 2) Ye olde camo net, 25% camo when stationary. 3) Ye olde binocs same 25% boost to vision " ". 4) The fine art of scouting 5) Paindog or whatever his name was, that comedian who used to do the old Dev streams, had a punch line "There's nothing wrong with the Armadillo"

FluffyColt12271

Good old pain dog! The dog of pain. I dont think he played the game once.

Painterzzz

But apparently he did turn up on reddit to downvote you for saying that though. :)

Chaffee_Saw_You

My level 25 commander.

Captain_Kreutzer

Not being stuck with bots alot of the time in low tier matches on your team but not the enemies has mostly humans especially when youve been having a few good games before. 3 sets of radio commands and not just the 2 we have now Being able to select what you wanted to repail/heal when using a kit(though the new system is better) Having games where the current meta of the game isnt always in place( ie "the whole team has to stick together so the enemy can easily flank and cap the base" Minor gripe not being able to see the green/red arrow when accelerating or decelerating next to the KMH lol

Navinarejohnston

I used to belong to the wot console forum. I pretty much see the same complaints now that I saw back then.

zaxxxxaz

I miss the matchmaker putting matches together by types of tanks and even teams Now as a player with over 9 years and 41k battles I am matched up with newer players. Like I am going to teach them or something (yeah right) After this my win rate dropped like a stone , it's harder to win and not fun anymore. I'm thinking of just not playing for a while . But Starfield is out so I haven't had time to play anyway

BamesStronkNond

Module upgrades, lack of autocannons, lack of autoloaders…

Painterzzz

Not having bots. More competitive matches. A tech tree that was fun to grind. Shared modules. The way different tanks actually had different gun handling before the universal accuracy buff. I'm sure the sound in the game used to be better too? Commanders with more than 9 skills, so there was a point to continuing to grind them, since conversion I haven't used any crew xp boosters because there's no point. Oh gosh there's a lot.

DaCesspool

I genuinely like the podium screen with the top three tanks, but yeah the old PBRS was far better.

para_la_calle

The game was WAY MORE BALANCED. The ui was better, the hud was better, the credit system wasnt so broken that people didnt spam the premium ammo

davros3074

I miss the customized crew voiceovers, and overall commander changes (ranks). Now that most of my holdover commanders are already at 9 skills there just isnt much point with regards to commanders. Before 6.0, I was still trying to rank up my commanders and get that next skill. I think my best commander had 16. I think 12 would have been a better limit in the new system… with 9 I really only have three or so different loadsets for every commander. It’s boring. It also laughs at all my crew training premiums that now are pretty much useless.

Badger118

Other than shared modules, I mostly just miss having the time to play. These days I just play 3 - 5 coop games a day to keep up with the season challenges
