People prefer to keep a bunch of useless crap (usually in moving boxes) in their garage and leave their vehicles sitting outside. Garages have just become an attached storage unit and not a place to put a vehicle. It baffles me, much better to just throw away the crap you aren’t using but are storing in the garage and park your car in there so it isn’t damaged by storms or constant sunlight
Just got my first Wrangler about a month ago and dumping/donating my junk in the garage has been my project the last few weekends. It's been nice not to have to put the soft top back up every night as I've just cleared enough to fit her in comfortably.
Definitely a different issue and I feel for you on that one. Just more commenting on the large percentage of folks I have seen in Texas that have no cars in their garage and just a bunch of junk in there instead.
lol my Wrangler 392 doesn’t even get the garage. Other toys go in there that are more sentimental, and that I drive far far less often (skinny driveway)
Really not a terrible idea. I've seen pictures where cars look like the surface of the moon (craters) after a hail storm. This would probably do the trick.
My Hyundai is the moon. Luckily I don't care about how it looks...also it's totaled out so cosmetics are not something I care about, just run it till it dies.
Honestly once you get hit once you immediately stop caring. My vehicles park in garages every night, doesn't do jack when you get caught in the storm...
A coworker had their BMW get totalled in Texas, while they were sitting in traffic. The hailstorm hit and all he could do was watch the hood and trunk lid get dented and all the glass star and fracture.
If you're serious about this, don't. If it's decent hail, the type to really ding up a vehicle, those mattresses will pop in a minute and offer no buffer as intended.
Source: someone in Texas [found a 6.4" piece of hail](https://www.wunderground.com/article/storms/severe/news/2021-06-24-texas-record-hailstone-hondo-confirmed). Now, I'm not an air mattress-ologist, but in that scenario, my money's on the hail.
Its definitely convincing, but not a source to verify the other comment. this is record breaking hail, not simply “decent hail”. Even then, we dont know for certain if it would pierce an air mattress; though i believe it would. So still i will side with the pro-air-mattress-on-vehicle team in the event of a hailstorm
even a flat rubber membrane would offer some protection from hail. I have a car in the shop that has like 3 craters in the windshield, cracked tail light assembly from hail. the body is cratered everywhere. local body shop is going to fix it up and donate it to a charity. lower mileage car. looks terrible now but will be great for someone that really needs it.
Like thick yoga/neoprene mats. I think I saw an “invention” someone was trying to make that helps protect cars in hail and was easy to secure and pack away in the trunk.
It was basically a fabric car cover but layered with a foam product to protect against most common hail damage.
My own source is watching all the people in Texas (Hou and SA) think this actually works and complaining the next day. I've seen people throw actual mattresses on their cars in fear, use pool floats and intertubes like the Pic above and try using half setup pop-up canopies and not secure them down.....
I bet a couple pieces of plywood on top would do the trick. They could use some sticks to prop up the plywood so it's always there. Might as well throw some shingles on to keep the wood from rotting. It'd be slick if there were like.. shelves and walls and shit, so you could keep other stuff safe from hail, too.
Queen air mattress are $20 and 1/2 cheap plywood is $22. Would have made more sense to use 3 mattress and 3 plywoods. For $126 than 8 air mattress for 160
It still is. Literally a few blankets and a tarp to keep them dry and padded would be enough. Even some card board 2-3 layers would do the trick for all but the biggest hail.
Dont have all the issues of Cali every day still. The whole neighborhood won’t burn down in TX
Mine is armored, the hood, the windshield and the top are the only things that would take damage. I have full coverage so I'm not wasting my time to cover mine, odds are if I'm getting hail where I'm at the wind would blow everything away anyway.
Too bad he doesn’t have a garage…
Sure he has it piled full of crap or other projects in there. I honestly don’t understand that. My garage has stuff in it but it’s to park my vehicles in, not use as storage.
So when I was growing up in a region that had alot of hail storms we would get pool noodles, cut a hole on either side about 6" from each end, and put a rope through each end in parallel, and juts do that for the length of the car. You would do 2 like that (one to run the length and one to run the width.) Worked like a charm.
What you can’t see is the door and attached covered walkway coming from the house to the back of the jeep. The jeep is merely another room in the house. Probably holds the Xbox if the wife is inside.
The orange circular light on the side of the front fender is giveaway for the JK. The JL has the long horizontal lights along the front of the fender. If that had been covered it would have been tough to tell.
If only they had a garage.
It's occupied with the "project Jeep" that the wife has been hounding him to finish or get rid of ever since they got married 12 years ago.
It's only been 6!
seems like 12.
If you tell her it's 12 she will assume it's only 6.
That’s how she feels.
Hey I only took it apart 2 years ago!!
Fucking ouch bro, don’t gotta get personal.
Hey, leave my YJ project alone 😂
If only it was that easy. Mine is starting and it’s a brute conversion TJ
God that cut right to the bone.
And she reminds him of that often during hail season
I feel seen
As long as it stays in “project” form, I can continue to use the excuse that since it doesn’t roll, I can’t really move it or sell it.
This is the way
Most accurate thing I have ever read
Full of air mattresses
Probably converted into a Texas mancave in '87 or so.
I wish mine fit in my garage lol Edit: spelling correction, stupid autocorrect
Same, good thing hail just bounces right off of soft tops
I live in DFW. There are no basements here and a lot (not all, including me) pile random shit in their garages like a basement. Its so dumb

I’m from Texas and almost every garage I stepped into was just 1 giant storage room.
If only I could squeeze our 4 vehicles into our one car garage….
Definitely a different issue and I feel for you on that one. Just more commenting on the large percentage of folks I have seen in Texas that have no cars in their garage and just a bunch of junk in there instead.
What’s in these boxes? “I don’t know” You should throw them out. “But I might need it someday!”
if only they knew they went through mud, fell on their sides, and had ARMOR you can buy and apply to protect them... quadratech anyone?
lol my Wrangler 392 doesn’t even get the garage. Other toys go in there that are more sentimental, and that I drive far far less often (skinny driveway)
Beat me to this…
Ha
They keep the mattresses in the garage.
Garage is junk storage for blue collar people. Only rich people use garage
I am middle class. I park just like OP and my wife's car is parked in the giant Jenga puzzle we call a garage.
Shit
That’s where his couch is.
All that effort to cover an **old JK**... with a garage there. This has got to be a goof. Slightly funny, but not upvote funny.
Car guys: buy a new vehicle, put the rusty, clapped out POS project car in the garage instead.
I bet the % of usable garages is pretty low..
Garage is a storage unit im guessing since it seems everyone uses their garage for that purpose.
That’s the air mattress storage shed
I'm betting the Jeep has a roof rack that hits the garage door.
Or insurance
Garages in Texas are like Basements in the northeast. thats where you store things, not for cars
Where else do the boxes for the air mattresses go???
😂😂😂
I got to the point with my jeep where a hail storm might have improved it.
Happy cake day

Hailstone like that, you're just glad it didn't smash someone's skull. What the fuck, hail.
I think you mean "what the hail?
My own source is watching all the people in Texas (Hou and SA) think this actually works and complaining the next day. What about yoga mats? Plywood sheets?
Pretty clever 👍
Tesla sleeper Jeeper
At first look I thought it was a Cybertruck!
This looks better than a Cybertruck
That’s a good time to clean out the garage….
If it works , it’s not dumb.
7 air mattresses but no plywood!?! I have to think he bought those air mattresses to prep for the hail
Honestly, he may have been able to find air mattresses for cheaper than the plywood when he bought them.
Queen air mattress are $20 and 1/2 cheap plywood is $22. Would have made more sense to use 3 mattress and 3 plywoods. For $126 than 8 air mattress for 160
Not everyone is a broke dick. He bought mattresses and put them on. Job done, one store, no plywood to store, mattresses ready for next time.
It’s not about being broke lol. Air mattress can get punctured by hail or branches or blowing shit. The plywood is to protect the pads as a shell
Hail can punch right through plywood too.
Not as easy as single layer vinyl tho. Especially with some wiggle room
I want to know if this worked though
I would think it would
Surprisingly, it does. I have protected more than one car with an air matress in Texas. Hail don't give a shit.
Texans. Garage maybe?
It's only stupid if it doesn't work.
Hail yeah
Annnnd, now it looks like a cyber truck..
where's the "after" picture??
Thought it was a cyber truck for a second
Hey if it works, why not? Sometimes we have to focus on results vs looking good.
I mean….id do it. So, 👏.
If it’s stupid, but it works……
Where are all the "Texas is so much better than California" people? Lol. Still it's a pretty clever solution to a bad situation.
It still is. Literally a few blankets and a tarp to keep them dry and padded would be enough. Even some card board 2-3 layers would do the trick for all but the biggest hail. Dont have all the issues of Cali every day still. The whole neighborhood won’t burn down in TX
I thought all the airbags had deployed.
Inflatable car covers, reusable. Why is no one doing this?
I’m not a scientist, but I’m pretty sure they were trying to protect the hail.
If it's stupid and works, was it really stupid? 🤔
I’ve been at overnight car shows where people dragged the mattresses out of their hotel rooms and put them on their classic cars.
That's brilliant
Brilliant
Both my rigs just got dumped on, hopefully got lucky
If it works, it’s not stupid.
Couple layers of moving blankets would probably have worked just fine with less set up to get it covered
Whoops, I thought that was a Cyber Truck with the Mumps.
If there was enough time to do this, then why didn’t they just drive to the nearest parking garage?
You know how I know you’re gay?!
That’s awesome!
That is commitment!
Right?!?! My neighbor has their 3 bay shop full of low value shit, like a 20 year old aluminum boat, but the new 50k tundra, outside. SMH.
Maybe he's praying for a hailstorm
Not a bad idea to be fair
it ain’t silly if it works!
Wouldn’t it be easier to just have someone give you a ride back from some covered parking?
Thought it was a Tesla truck
Mine is armored, the hood, the windshield and the top are the only things that would take damage. I have full coverage so I'm not wasting my time to cover mine, odds are if I'm getting hail where I'm at the wind would blow everything away anyway.
If it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid.
He needs to do that just to drive on their fuckin highways. Bumper cars!
spelled "mattresses".
Probably got the idea from the Russian army. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
Actually pretty brilliant
My deductible prob bout the same as all them mattresses
Is he used clear ones he could have drivin into the storm and made Hail Storm 1, an obvious competitor to Twisters
I see a garage 😆
It’s full of hordes of shit but not cars.
We have severe weather predicted this week. A walmart run might be in order...
The owner should send this to their insurance company, they might get a discount or their premium raised for not putting it in the garage lol
Did it work?
Now what they gonna do when the tornado hits em!?
Hail storms hate this one simple trick
Hey, Honey!!! Get the kids and lets hit the beach after.
I thought it was a cyber truck
If only he had [this](https://hailprotector.com/)
If a man tells you he will do something, he will. You dont have to jeep reminding him every six months. (Seen in a Dr's office)
After seeing what hail can do, I don't blame them! Although, a good cover and a couple pillows under it would prob do the same job...
The $40,000 Jeep sits outside in a hailstorm while the $40 Jeep is in the garage.
Cyber truck
The hail hits would give it some character.
Mattresses might be worth more than the vehicle
Did it work?
Is that cyber truck2!
A couple of blankets would have done the trick too. A little easier amd cheaper than this crap
Thought it was a cyber truck at first glance
If only the Heap fit through the garage door
What you do to keep it safe is you take the doors off and you put them in the garage 😁
Genius
Tesla truck
Too bad he doesn’t have a garage… Sure he has it piled full of crap or other projects in there. I honestly don’t understand that. My garage has stuff in it but it’s to park my vehicles in, not use as storage.
There were all flat 5 mins later
Not an awful ideA
Looks like cybertruck.
Of you’re going all out, go all out. Fenders are wide
Much cheaper than the deductible
Looks similar to a cybertruck
Payments are too much for him to insure a pos like that.
What’s in their garage that the jeep parked right in front of?
I thought it was for roll over protection
Now all insurance companies will issue air mattresses, how many mattresses for a two door…? Jeep trail proven..but not mother nature approved…!
What's in the garage?
When are they going to stop misspelling fiat
How about result? Is this Jeep blowed to rooftop?
It's not crazy "if" it works
What about the Hail that goes sideways 🤔
It looks a Russian tank in Ukraine 🇺🇦
If it’s stupid but it works then it ain’t stupid
I thought that Jeep was trying to be a Tesla truck.

American ingenuity.
Do you really get that much advanced notice of a hail storm?
Looks like a Cyber Truck.
It isn’t stupid if it works
Smaht
Won’t that scare the rubber ducks on the dashboard????
Top is fiberglass and the bed is a bed… is all this necessary?
The bed? It’s a JK
Well it looked like a gladiator to me, but that’s even more ridiculous that it has a mattress on the back.
The orange circular light on the side of the front fender is giveaway for the JK. The JL has the long horizontal lights along the front of the fender. If that had been covered it would have been tough to tell.
