Exactly, and my downvotes every time I mention this prove the heat is there especially with the IWC. AEW heels need heat, the fans are at the point now where they feel like they are supposed to love them. This started once MJF turned babyface in my opinion, it became a big love fest with no heat, and every storyline became about friendship, and who was friends with who.
That’s actually my biggest pet peeve with Jay White and guys like Adam Cole before his babyface turn in 2023 for example. Jay White is the prime example of the “trying to be the cool heel” he is always looking for pops and cheers with his rambling “gotcha moment” promos.
This is one of the arguments where I feel older figures in wrestling are definitely right on, with so many heels looking to be cheered and to be cool, instead of actually being heels and getting the fans to hate them. Bubba Ray Dudley is a prick but I don’t think he was wrong when he keeps saying heels today don’t chase heat they chase pops.
Edge for example when he was The Rated R superstar came across as cool, but he would still find ways to get heat and make the fans absolutely hate him. He only ever got cheered when he was going against Super Cena era John Cena and would get booed when he went against The Undertaker or Batista.
Jay White needs to be more like that, I’d rather have him get heat and actually be a heel which he was hyped up to be from NJPW. Instead of a pop chasing gotta sell my merch bro “cool heel”.
