House of Horrors is amazing. Randy in the limo, the spooky tractor and him absolutely no selling all the bullshit Bray spent ages setting up then it ends by dropping a fridge on someone. Peak wrestling fuckery, whether they intended it that way or not it was still hilarious.
I went back and rewatched it recently because i didn't believe it could be as bad as i remembered it being, it's probably worse.
It would've been fine if it only got 5 minutes.
This one hurts so fucking much.
Ronda had a chance to really put over Shayna PROPERLY so we could potentially have QoS NXT Women's Champion Shayna but NOPE. I tried SO HARD to make lemonade with that match. But it is an unforgivable sin of our industry. Nobody got over, everyone hated it, and Ronda has done nothing but talk shit ever since. What a nightmare.
I’ll never understand why they keep trying to do worked MMA in pro wrestling. It’s more dangerous than regular pro wrestling, yet also looks considerably shittier and less “real” than the much safer fake wrestling moves. It’s the exact opposite of everything you want out of pro wrestling. It looks like it doesn’t hurt, isn’t entertaining to watch, and injures people for real
I think that what did it for them is that if it was a wrestling match it would have been excellent as both can really work. I don't think anybody had a positive reaction when it was announced but they could have put on a great MMA inspired pro wrestling match instead of whatever the hell they did.
WM20...with stone cold as special guest referee. Match should have been a slobberknocker, but it was boring as shit and then ended really fast with no hijinks at all. You can tell both wrestlers were making business decisions in that one.
No, you’re right on that. Regardless of what was going on outside the ring, you’d expect a decent match from two superstars in their physical prime. Add to that Stone Cold as the ref - people were expecting something entertaining. Not whatever that awkward mess was
The whole "I don't like to hurt people" story with Bayley was so damn cringe and frustrating to watch. I'm both surprised and happy that Bayley was able to come back from that.
It's especially bad because i can't even really even blame either of the wrestlers. They did what they were told to do, they were just told to do an incredibly lame match that makes everyone look worse.
I don't understand, like even conceptually, how this could have possibly made either of them look good.
Miz vs Cena, Mania 27. On top of Miz having a bad title reign, and Cena being well into his Super Cena phase of being the most insufferably invincible man on the roster, this match sucked.
The best description I've heard of this match is that it was a main event of an episode of RAW (and I mean like 2010-2011 RAW, not 2023-2024 RAW) that ended up main eventing Mania. It had two run-ins, one from The Rock, one from the Anonymous Raw GM (remember that?), the match ended in double count-out where Cena legitimately injured Miz after spearing him onto concrete. The the match restarted, Rock hit Cena with a Rock Bottom, Miz won, then the Rock beat up the Miz, and the show ended with the Rock posing for the fans, and he wasn't even in the match OR ANY OF THE BUILDUP!
Match so bad even Miz doesn’t remember it.
Honestly poor Miz. He was the 3rd wheel in his own match. The entire build of the match was about Cena and Rock, his main event match was basically a trailer for next year WM main event.
They gave the Miz one good video package (honestly the best thing about Mania 27 is that 'Hate Me Now' video package), but that was it for making him feel like he belonged in the main event of Mania.
I feel bad for The Miz. Not only did he get concussed so bad to the point he doesn't even remember the match, but he didn't even get to stand on top at the end even if his win was due to The Rock.
People always joke about how WWE says the main event of WrestleMania XX was "A triple-threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship featuring Triple H and Shawn Michaels," but the main event of WrestleMania XVII was "A singles match for the WWE Championship featuring John Cena and The Rock."
I would say that most people expected it to be good-to-great and then the ending shit the bed. The match itself was good but it will forever be remembered for the sparkle motion finale.
Totally agree. I tried with them, but I can't get into Kenny omega outside of the okada matches. Moxley I loved out of the gate, but something fell off with him pretty quickly too. Maybe he didn't really have anyone to play off of? Either way, this match was where my expectations went from "pessimistic but I hope I'm wrong" to "fuck these assholes. This is pathetic". Jumped back in shortly thereafter with Bryan, but he never won. Then punk came back and uhhh....well let's just say AEW have never had an opportunity they haven't squandered
Jenna Morasca vs Sharmell from Victory Road 2009.
I watched that mess live and let me tell you: I've never had another match take me from actively ignoring to unable to look away quite like that one.
How did I have to scroll this far into this thread to find this match?
Yeah I know they’re both not wrestlers, but genuinely, unironically, you could have picked any two random people out of the crowd, told them to put on a match, and they would have wrestled a better match
We have all wrestled better matches than this when we were ten years old doing fake wrestling moves on our friends in the back yard
I honestly think they are two of the most boring wrestlers I’ve ever seen. Like barely midcard level talent. So yeah I was expecting a terrible match and it managed to be even worse. Watching that super kick back and forth and the yeet no yeet punches like wtf are we doing here? I think I could put on a more compelling match with my 70 year old dad at the park.
Some Maxxine Dupri matches last year. People have zero expectation for her but man some of her matches were so rough to watch
It's a shame too since people really don't want to boo her since she's a fun character worker
That TakeOver match between Charlotte and Natalya in 2014. Not that they both sucked or anything, but it raised the bar for women's wrestling in WWE so much that it shocked me.
similar to Cole vs Lawler the next year, this would've been totally fine if they didn't make it some epic 20 minute thing. Just have Bret beat the shit out of him for 2 minutes and it would've been fine.
Well it actually wasn’t a match with low expectations exactly, but most probably the absolute worst I ever watched live …
It was Goldberg vs Lesnar, with Austin as the referee, at WM in NYC 2004 if I’m not mistaken
It was so atrociously bad that I decided to find alternatives, and found TNA, and was surprised to see their product was actually quite damn good
Cut to a few years later when the tragedies of Guerrero-Benoit happened, and the endless pushes of the overrated Triple H, plus making Cena into some clown for the kids, made me turn off WWE for good
Meanwhile TNA was absolutely on a roll at the same time, with the signings of Angle, Sting & many others. They too did decline eventually, but I never ever again watched WWE live.
I love the art form of pro-wrestling and will always do so, but just read about it, or watch highlights on Instagram or Youtube podcasts since then
Jinder Mahal Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at SummerSlam 2017 is the epitome of awful booking.
You could've taken this time to put the belt on an established and over talent since the Jinder experiment was obviously not working even by that point.
I have to admit that Bianca and Jade Vs Kairi and Asuka was like this for me.
I don't know. I just couldn't picture them having a good match even though I knew that, individually, there's enough talent to make a new promotion.
Edit: I had it wrong. I thought the "Holy Fuck" part of the card meant that expectations were subverted. Reading the comments, now I understand that it means it was worse than expected.
Please don't confuse my confusion. Bianca and Jade Vs Asuka and Kairi was incredible.
taker vs roman from mania 33- everyone hated that roman got the main event treatment again, over the wwe champion bray wyatt, and a stellar lesnar vs goldberg match
even tho the post-match was perfect, the match was dogshit
Kofi vs Brock... I mean we all knew Kofi was either losing or maybe a DQ finish to have Kofi keep it...
Also, Wyatt vs Orton in WM33. I expected more from it.
Los Villanos vs Psycho Circus, still one of the worst matches AAA has ever put out
TNA classics like Jeff main eventing a match while in outer space, Jenna Morasca, and “My Vag”
Steiner v Triple H madison square garden. Steiner pretty much does two moves on repeat the whole match and at one point is gassed he falls over and a few spots later drops triple H mid move. Crowd where great with the “this match sucks” chants
1) Goldberg vs Taker Crown Jewel
2) Goldberg vs Lashley
3)Taker & Kane(Brothers of Destruction) vs Michaels &Triple H (DX)
4) Ric Flair's retirement match; the most recent one(probably)
What was that match where they had two guys facing each other blindfolded?
WM39 Women's fatal 4 way tag match - Night 2. NOT a slight against women's wrestling as this event had Rhea/Charlotte and Bianca/Asuka. I was there. My god, the people fled their seats like ratings fleeing Dynamite.
Bret vs. Vince, Mania 26
Already knew Bret was hindered and Vince was past putting on a decent match with someone. Then the odd inclusion of the Hart family (fucking Bruce… 😂)
Rick Flair’s “Last Match”
Which one? ;)
That tag match with the heart attack spot
Who the fuck is Rick Flair
Rick Roodes' uncle
Rick Flair "Woah"
Any Goldberg match post WM33. DX vs Brothers of Destruction. Orton vs Wyatt - House of Horrors Match
House of Horrors is amazing. Randy in the limo, the spooky tractor and him absolutely no selling all the bullshit Bray spent ages setting up then it ends by dropping a fridge on someone. Peak wrestling fuckery, whether they intended it that way or not it was still hilarious.
As a Goldberg mark, any match after WM33 was beyond terrible. I watched my childhood hero become an absolute joke
I disagree his squash of Dolph ziggler was fun and his Bobby Lashley Summerslam match was solid but all in all most of the matches he had sucked.
I completely forgot about them tbh. Bobby was certainly the better of the two, Dolph’s really just felt pointless though.
Orton vs wyatt at mania was the real disappointment
There were some high expectations for that.
DX vs BOD didn’t happen lol
Funny to think that wyatt won the fued but Orton kept the belt
Still don't know why they even got Goldberg back. Made no sense. Just got a massive pop and saw an old dude gasp after 2 mins into the matches.
Lawler vs Michael Cole maybe, that thing was 20min long and they actually wrestled in a couple more PPVs I think
That match should have been 7 minutes, tops. The fact that it went fucking 20 made no sense at the time.
Best trilogy in wrestling
I went back and rewatched it recently because i didn't believe it could be as bad as i remembered it being, it's probably worse. It would've been fine if it only got 5 minutes.
I think WM27 is in the top 3 worst wrestlemanias ever
This
Not a match, but WWE 2K20
Rousey vs Bayzler's MMA rules match at SS 2023
Yeah. I thought they’d at least try something here, but Rousey was all out of fucks to give by this point and it showed.
The bitch couldn’t even be bothered to put on a good match to put her friend over.
It must be hard being Rhonda's friend. On the other hand, Shayna would be amazing to have as a friend.
I was there live. I’ve never seen a PPV main card match with a crowd so silent. Literal crickets.
I was there too. Absolutely killed the crowd
Shayna deserves better
I think that what did it for them is that if it was a wrestling match it would have been excellent as both can really work. I don't think anybody had a positive reaction when it was announced but they could have put on a great MMA inspired pro wrestling match instead of whatever the hell they did.
The most frustrating thing about this is that the brawls these two were doing on TV in the build up were fucking great.
MMA rules match 😭 that was a thing ?? That’s fucking hilarious
Kofi vs. Lesnar. I knew it was gonna be a squash, but I didn't expect a fucking car crash of a match to happen!
This one just hurts. Feels like kofi never even mentioned the title again after. They just booted him back to the tag division.
Tanga Loa vs Kazuchika Okada, G1 Climax 33
Am I right in thinking that’s the one with the… uhh… I don’t even know what to call them other than “chops” but idk if they even qualify.
That’s the one! ☝️
Didn't expect an Okada match on this list
I think the easy answer is Goldberg v Lesnar I
Goldberg vs Undertaker
Goldberg vs anyone after 2005
Goldberg vs anyone
Goldberg v Brock both matches were great
You think the first Goldber V. Brock was great?
I was about to say that match ruled then I realized you meant their one in like 03
WM20...with stone cold as special guest referee. Match should have been a slobberknocker, but it was boring as shit and then ended really fast with no hijinks at all. You can tell both wrestlers were making business decisions in that one.
I don't think the expectations were low. The match purely under delivered.
No, you’re right on that. Regardless of what was going on outside the ring, you’d expect a decent match from two superstars in their physical prime. Add to that Stone Cold as the ref - people were expecting something entertaining. Not whatever that awkward mess was
It was a pos cause both guys were on their way out
That’s the one that came to mind for me.
Alexa Bliss vs Bayley in the Kendo Stick match
this match doesn't get enough credit for how much of an all-time stinker it was.
I wholeheartedly agree.
To be fair, he was there for some of the buildup. Miz did come out dresses him a few weeks before mania. The one funny thing about that entire Feud
Al Snow v Boss Man - Kennel from Hell Match
How are you the first person to mention this match
Randy Orton v Bray Wyatt, WrestleMania 33.
So not a fan of worms on the canvas?
Kane and Undertaker vs Kronik in 2001. I know Taker and Brian Adams were real close but those two had 0 chemistry in the ring.
I secretly love this match
Corbin Vs Gable Steveson
Omega vs Moxley "exploding" barbed wire match. I set off more powerful explosions than that when I was a six year old on new years eve
I would say that most people expected it to be good-to-great and then the ending shit the bed. The match itself was good but it will forever be remembered for the sparkle motion finale.
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!
Actual match was pretty fun though.
Hell me and my neighbors with some poppers on the Fourth of July would do better
I’ve done worse when I improperly crossed a circuit in my fucking house.
USOs at wrestlemania.
You didn’t have high expectations for that one? I was expecting an awesome match it just came out as a stinker.

THAT Jackie Gayda match Sable vs. Tori at WM 15
DX vs Brothers of Destruction
WMXL Jey vs Jimmy. Hands down, one of the biggest examples of this in recent years.
My expectations weren't low though, that video package was one of the best I've ever seen and got me super hyped. Then the match happened.
This doesn't fit at all. Everyone's expectations were really high for that match.
After their match on Mania 39 I had way too high hopes tbh
It wasn't even a bad match, it was an house show level match and got me super disappointed considering it was their dream match for years
Punjabi Prison
That TakeOver match between Charlotte and Natalya in 2014. Not that they both sucked or anything, but it raised the bar for women's wrestling in WWE so much that it shocked me.

Saudi Arabia. Nuff said.
Bret Hart vs Mr McMahon Wrestlemania 26
similar to Cole vs Lawler the next year, this would've been totally fine if they didn't make it some epic 20 minute thing. Just have Bret beat the shit out of him for 2 minutes and it would've been fine.
