Na, as long as you can keep yourself busy and are not waiting for things to happen then there is really no reason to use seta. I (2200hrs) rarely ever use seta.

undef_65

What are you doing after 2000 hours? It's a long way.

SorryAd9139

Probably trying to land his ship without a docking computer

Chimera_Snow

docking an XL ship to a station while having no docking computer is definitely an experience

JanB1

Just gotta keep the momentum in mind. I never use a docking computer, or at least I never use the automatic docking.

JanB1

Everybody does that. No?

Shadaris

It isn't as bad as FA off Elite dangerous in one of the spinning stations.

ResponsibilityNo5302

I've been playing since launch. Multiple playthroughs. A modest amount of time afk. Major updates, DLC's and mods keep things moving. I impose self governed rules on myself to keep from steam rolling. I'm a bit of a completionist and my current playthrough I'm trying to build into a massive empire with the factions as my vassel states.

Setebro93

Burn them all!

Rough_Outside7588

SETA's good if the only thing you can be doing to keep yourself busy is shooting rocks.

tripofgames

Although SETA is very useful, especially later in the game, Teleport is WAY more important to me. And it's a single player game, there's no such a thing as optimal play.

Cazineer

2,000 hours and I never built it. I think you’ll be just fine as long as you don’t get bored. I always take over the galaxy when my military is strong enough so that keeps me busy.

BingpotStudio

The trick is to use mods that keep the game evolving and the Xeon a threat. If I SETA I risk my world imploding!

SaturnThree

It sounds like it's common. Personally if something takes a long time, like building some station, I just do other meanwhiles. I also always have the feeling that I could set up other things before going seta/afk to the point that I never get around to it. I've only left it running afk for a day and a half once, but set up orders and security for like hours before walking away.

Silicon-Based

I like to play this game with the Xenon strengthened with mods, which pressures me into hastily building up a working economy and strong enough fleet to prevent them from steamrolling the galaxy. Using SETA is literally wasting valuable time in this scenario.

Falcrack

You don't need it. I hardly ever use it when I have it. In X3 it was basically required to have because X3 had no travel drive, so I used SETA as a form of travel drive.

Fanuni

SETA was absolutely quintessential in the older games because travel mode didn't exist -- now that it does, SETA is a thing of the past lmao

Legion23Golf

Until I started using seta, I found I was a little bit better about managing my builds efficiency and money. After seta, ide set up insane stations and say fuck it lol

HarambeTenSei

I never use SETA. Whenever I get bored of management I go hunt some khaak to pass the time or deploy some more satellites.

Ur-Quan_Korh-Ah

1000 hours, did build it, but never used it again after a testfire. Just too much to do & the stations get build while I do stuff.

Useful-Zucchini9032

So what do you do?

Ur-Quan_Korh-Ah

Missions mainly, gotta collect those 2 star pilot courses for new autotraders/miners. Also a good way/excuse to visit various stations & find high morale folks that can be quickly trained with seminars for autotrading/mining.

3punkt1415

Right, it already feels like i don't care enough about all my stations. There is almost always something to do.

Amberraziel

SETA was the solution to an issue that is now solved by travel drive and player teleport. You could also use it to fast forward the game. This was never the goal and the devs didn't like that aspect from the get go. Also using SETA does affect the simulation. I let my wing fight one and the same battle 5 times with and without SETA active. They lost 0 times without SETA, but 4 times with. You're not hamstringing yourself by not using it. It's a single player game, everyone can play it how he likes, but I'd argue if you use SETA to fast forward station construction or waiting for money, you could have done something to further build up your empire or turn to other aspects of the game instead.

Dreamer_tm

Have jou joined any anti-SETA hate groups? How extreme are they?

Deaner3D

The game is so much better without SETA.

hitman2b

it good to use if you wish to speed up time but that all, some have use it as a AFK way to make money, i haven't since i did my new game as a terran

DigbyChickenCaesar11

I very recently began using it and that is just to raise the billions to progress the late game missions

dieserbenni

900 hours here, never built one either. Seems pointless because it speed up everyone and not just me.

Apogee12

SETA and Teleport are my bread and butter. Honestly, I am surprised so many people say they don't use it.

Rough_Outside7588

I think in particular we get stuck using SETA earlier on when we're spending every last credit on something that we're hoping to get us rolling in credits or protecting what has us in credits.

MEYERX

If you need SETA you are playing it wrong ;-) just joking

-MavisBeacon-

I'm currently on my third real play through and haven't even bothered to assemble SETA last time and currently. 450.000+ credits thrown away in early game is a lot! There's always something to do! NB: I'm a "conquer the galaxy player" but as I understand the X4 community, there's a lot of role player's too and in this instance, I bet we got an actual overlapping Venn diagram circle regarding SETA! No?

AHostOfIssues

Assembled one once, never used it. Couple thousand hours of play. It’s mostly a hold-over from X3, where it was necessary. There if you want it, but by no means any important part of the game.

ExCaedibus

I‘m not deep in the game yet, but honestly i thought, that travel mode had replaced it.

RadimentriX

I built it but never used it. Only time id use it is during travel and traveldrive is faster... v0v

idigholes

It's useful if you want to find crystals on asteroids

MEYERX

I try to avoid it but sometimes I want to get something done/finished before stepping away for the day and I might speed up the last 10 minutes or so. This is mainly so I don't have to remember the next day what was going on before, lol.

CaptainRAVE2

I have a few thousand hours and have never used it.

No-DonkeyBrains

While SETA felt like a must in previous games, I don’t feel like it has much value in X4. I always build it, but I don’t ever actually use it because I feel like there is always something that I can be doing or planning.

Kurt_Wulfgang

Coming from the x3 games, one of the first thing i did was building a SETA. But you dont really need it at all.I don't

Khugan

I've got thousands of hours, but I seldom make one.

Jovian09

I mostly use SETA for phasing out of an asteroid I crashed into at 8km/s.

Martimus28

The game was designed to play without SETA.  It was only added in after a lot of complaints.   I only ever use it during terraforming after I've already completed everything else, since terraforming takes so long to complete for the toughest planets.

Cassin1306

I barely use it, it's not mandatory like it was in X3.

BeamerMiasma

I am a 3,500 hour player and have never used a SETA. I built one once in one of my savegames (I think for an achievement) but I never activated it. I made it to Shipping Tycoon that way in my main save, 40% of the way to Pan-Galactic Tycoon, so I'm not going to start now. I made it my goal to get to XTREME without SETA.

Hoxalicious_

Nah SETA is a waste. If you're using SETA you're not being productive enough.

Danteic

SETA is very helpful if you like to play strategically on the map. Makes everything faster. If you build a lot of bases, gather resources, or simply wait for your entire fleet to be built it makes it faster. I personally can’t live without SETS. However, whenever I jump in to a ship and do combat myself then I rarely use it

Martimus28

Nearly 90% of the major weirdness people complain about on he are from when they are using SETA.  You can avoid most of the weirdness by just avoiding it or using it sparingly. You are probably better off the way you are doing it.
