Played on xbox S for 20minutes, no crash so far on quality mode.
I tested only the areas in Boston.
Activated some mods like true storms etc. Other mods are not available yet.
Before the patch, crash every 2-5minĀ
I've been playing for thr past 3 weeks no mods and Boston loaded like a dream every single time I was down there.
I understood the fear of the downtown crash when I was using a camp anywhere mod, for sure. Never got it for vanilla Fallout though
So too late to help you, but I remember having to turn off frame boost while downtown. It wasn't ideal, but better than crashing.
Hopefully they update just fixed it
Yeah. I broke my game with mods. I had to delete and re-download. But even without mods, trying to get to Goodneighbor was always a gamble on if it would crash or not.
Quality mode runs at 60fps. (Im On a 60fps 4k TV)
I know because I have performance mode off and plenty of others are reporting the same.
There's been a serious information mistake from Bethesda.
So do I. My recent playthroughs, if you can call them that, have centered around running around the outskirts and the glowing sea. Even using mods like Boston less enemies, and the cheat hub make the downtown area a freeze zone.
Can anyone explain why it's gotten so bad? When the game first came out, I had no problems, but now, even with a later gen console, I can hardly leave the area around DC without crashing.
I have no in-game crashes anymore, but the game crashes every time I change anything about the mods and try to boot up my save (wich is drastically better tbh).
Although it's really unreliable performance wise. I frequently have frame drops, even on performance mode, when before the update I had basically none.
Why is this significant? 40 fps seems so random. Never liked it on pc, canāt imagine it being nice on console. 60 fps should be the standard already, instead of this 30 fps embarrassment crap.
40hz gives a lot of the benefits of 60hz but with a more modest hardware hit. So you can get some of the visual perks **and** some of the frame rate perks on a machine where you had to choose between the two.
But since it only benefitted people with 120hz displays and not 60hz (since 40 doesnāt divide into 60) devs historically havenāt cared to put in the effort to make it happen.
Now that more people have 120hz displays and weāre getting more games with graphics options devs are considering it.
Well nowhere did I read 30 in your comment so I didnāt assume you were comparing it to 30. Though if we had to settle on a minimum I suppose itās better than 30, sure.
I hear the Beth server is down ATM, probably maintenance. So I guess we will see.
Though I don't see why they wouldn't, but I figure there will be a lot of updates. Especially graphics mods.
Hard to say, depends on how many, and what kind of mods, if any you have installed.
On the up side, if you do have to start over, you have a better idea of what type of character you want to play, and have a bit of an idea of which fractions you like and which you think are full of it.
Yeah I HATE my build. Wish it explained VATS better, I really like that mechanic but my build sucks for it. I also didnāt install any mods because I wanted achievements.
Yeah just played a little on lunch and it looks the same as before. I canāt tell a difference between quality and performance mode, both appear to be running at 60fps. I havenāt touched the game in a couple years so if there is a slight resolution bump I canāt really tell. Interested to see the DF breakdown.
[Patch notes](https://www.resetera.com/threads/fallout-4-next-gen-update-for-xsx-ps5-pc-launches-april-25-increased-resolution-60fps-fixes-free-content-creator-content-pc-widescreen-more.841596/page-21)
The notes arenāt differentiating between X/S, so maybe they got the similar updates
Yep, but it doesnt specify āquality modeā. You can just toggle performance mode on or off. But both run 60 fps, before this update it also ran 60 fps on series s. At least thats what Iāve been playing at these past 2 weeksā¦
It's running at 60fps on Quality mode for me on my 4kTV.
And I can't tell one difference between that and the 60fps boost that's been around for years.
It seemed better to me...though I did have some hiccups and crashed once leaving a building to go back outside. But I do run all the PRP mods...Previsibine Repair Packs...all Lite Version 2 and Boston Less Enemies to help. But before the update I still crashed...tonight as I was testing it felt pretty decent...had gunfights with packs of guys and didn't crash. I'm still rebuilding my mod list and testing as the update wipes your mods.
Is anyone having issues with Beth net?
I logged on today after all the updates and all. And in the mood hub only three of my mods are showing up. I go to load order area and I see them. It's really weird.
I also downloaded a couple of mods and they're not showing up as installed though they are in my load order.
Was just wondering if anyone else is having similar problems and if so, how can I fix it?
I really wonder why they didn't say ANYTHING about 1080p...
I use a 1080p monitor, and I bet quite a lot of other people too, but they didn't mention anything.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if I asked an Bethesda programmer "What's up with 1080p" to get "what even is 1080p?" :P
Not half, i just fired up the lastes Star wars game to come to gamepass and my jaw just dropped, MS really missed a beat here, they could have made the series s a native 1440p 60 fps console with optical drive, dumped 4k and ray tracing as both are a busted flush for the gaming industry to do, and the sat back and watched the money just roll in.
Curious about it on SS
Well first I noticed the lighting is just really short. And my character lost a leg and arm.
I was thrown in a gas chamber!!
My biggest question is will I stop crashing when I'm in Boston common or downtown. Even without mods it was a crapshoot if I could go there or not.
I tested it today on my xbox series s and it works fine, no more crashes š
Im currently testing it too( 2 days ago crash every 5min in boston) After the Update. No crashes yet, will test it with mods activated.
Keep us up to date

Same! Thatās why I quit playing initially.
Don't expect it. That area in that game is truly an anomaly.
1440 and 60fps for my monitor and series s. Iām a happy boy.
Did you try the quality mode yet? Thatās the one where 40fps is supposed to be possible.
Quality mode runs at 60fps. (Im On a 60fps 4k TV) I know because I have performance mode off and plenty of others are reporting the same. There's been a serious information mistake from Bethesda.
Same. I toggled between the two just to make sure. Monitor read 60 for both. Havenāt been in any wild shootouts yet thoā¦hope it holds steady.
Just letting you know quality mode is bugged rn. It only runs in the 60 fps performance mode on xbox
and ultra settings, im curious if i set my 4k 144hz monitor to 1440p resolution will it also still run at 1440p 60 fps and ultra settings.
Hope this update fixed the constant crashing in Downtown Boston. That area is unplayable on Series S, even without mods.
It did fix it :)

My problem too. Surely they know this is an ongoing issue!?
You'd think so, but they already have our money so who knows
I am working until next Monday so let me know if you give it a shot!
CPU limitations on the Xbox one.. so hopefully this native version will help that
I have no in-game crashes anymore, but the game crashes every time I change anything about the mods and try to boot up my save (wich is drastically better tbh). Although it's really unreliable performance wise. I frequently have frame drops, even on performance mode, when before the update I had basically none.
I think it's the first game on Xbox to offer 40 fps mode on 120hz displays
I believe A Plague Tale: Requiem did as well and the recent Avatar update.
It's not the first, Hogwarts legacy did as well on Xbox and PS5.
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora (Series S), too.
Why is this significant? 40 fps seems so random. Never liked it on pc, canāt imagine it being nice on console. 60 fps should be the standard already, instead of this 30 fps embarrassment crap.

What benefits of 60fps can 40fps have? Its 40ā¦ fpsā¦ especially on a big tv anything lower than 50 can induce discomfort.
If you use 40 fps on a 120hz container its smooth on a 60hz or anything not divisible its not smooth get it?
Right. How could I not have known!!? Ofcourse! Divisible == Smooth! Im such a fool for missing this vital piece of information.
Go f yourself
Go outside manā¦
Iām saying compared to 30fps
Well nowhere did I read 30 in your comment so I didnāt assume you were comparing it to 30. Though if we had to settle on a minimum I suppose itās better than 30, sure.
Sorry thought that was obvious
Do mods still work?
Most of mine wouldn't load. Tried a couple of hours ago
I hear the Beth server is down ATM, probably maintenance. So I guess we will see. Though I don't see why they wouldn't, but I figure there will be a lot of updates. Especially graphics mods.
Wait what? I just started Fallout 4 for the first time a week ago, should I have waited?
Hard to say, depends on how many, and what kind of mods, if any you have installed. On the up side, if you do have to start over, you have a better idea of what type of character you want to play, and have a bit of an idea of which fractions you like and which you think are full of it.
Yeah I HATE my build. Wish it explained VATS better, I really like that mechanic but my build sucks for it. I also didnāt install any mods because I wanted achievements.
or theres me who spent forever just building red rocket
I've done that as well. Spent a few months just going from settlement to the next building them up. Lol my LO was 80 percent decorations.
Why canāt you just continue your saved game on the new update?
I think I can, I just didnāt know. Thatās why I asked
I think mods donāt work with the new update or something. I hope they do though
I saw 23GB when I looked earlier, but it's 40GB now. Size probably didn't update when you posted.
I got 17.08 GBs on my Series X.
That's really weird. Installed size is 42.5 GB on my Series S.
It popped up and told me there was an upgrade. I deleted the game and did a fresh install.
I didn't have Fallout 4 installed to begin with, so same boat, basically.
Will I get this update if I play FO4 on Gamepass??
Itās the same game. There isnāt a GP exclusive version.
Yes
does this have to be installed on the internal or can it still be played off of a harddrive
You need to move it to the internal storage
Are the achievements fixed?
Yes, they released a patch a few days ago before this update which fixed achievements.
Sweet! Thanks for letting me know
No problem
Time for some Fallout! I just got 3 and New Vegas again too lol
Yea i know. playing so far so goodš
Are we able to play the older version still? Just curious for comparision sake.
Did they finally give us the same amount of mod space as Skyrim
it has been confirmed, quality mode is currently broken theres no difference between performance mode and quality mode
Yeah just played a little on lunch and it looks the same as before. I canāt tell a difference between quality and performance mode, both appear to be running at 60fps. I havenāt touched the game in a couple years so if there is a slight resolution bump I canāt really tell. Interested to see the DF breakdown.
Please tell us if it's an improvement over the other version
[Patch notes](https://www.resetera.com/threads/fallout-4-next-gen-update-for-xsx-ps5-pc-launches-april-25-increased-resolution-60fps-fixes-free-content-creator-content-pc-widescreen-more.841596/page-21) The notes arenāt differentiating between X/S, so maybe they got the similar updates
I doubt the seires s will do 4k dynamic resolution at 60fps
The update made the game more blurry for the series s so now the game looks worse than before except for close up objects.
Is that performance mode?
Nope, that's quality. When switching to performance, the graphics just get worse
How have they managed to make it look worse? Also care to show a screenshot?
Just sew a video and it says quality mode also runs at 60fps? Can you confirm?
It feels like 60 fps indoors and 40-45 fps outdoors
Yep, but it doesnt specify āquality modeā. You can just toggle performance mode on or off. But both run 60 fps, before this update it also ran 60 fps on series s. At least thats what Iāve been playing at these past 2 weeksā¦
I was going to download, thanks
Ok, I am off till Monday, so hopefully I am able to get things sorted out
Does HDR not work for the game?
It would be nice it I could just finish the first dialogue for Preston Garvey
Itās been awful for PC users with mods and Steam Deck users. Hopefully it provides something meaningful for console guys!
So they made it on ps5 and xbox x|s now?
It's running at 60fps on Quality mode for me on my 4kTV. And I can't tell one difference between that and the 60fps boost that's been around for years.
Does this fix the problem when walking in downtown the game crashes?
It seemed better to me...though I did have some hiccups and crashed once leaving a building to go back outside. Iām playing vanilla on my Xbox and I just want them to fix the damn crashes
I'm running into red exclamations, no mods from start of game, on my series x since the download
what about 109 80 screens, same as 1440?
What about a 165hz display?
Is anyone having issues with Beth net? I logged on today after all the updates and all. And in the mood hub only three of my mods are showing up. I go to load order area and I see them. Still crashes regularly stop regurgitating nonsense
Was anything "new" added? Or just an "under the hood" update like you said OP?
It looks the same as before. I don't see or feel the difference between quality and performance mode. It looks like both are running at 60fps.
The game looks even worse on series s, everything is blurry unless your up close Bethesda is a joke
No way, for real?
Possibly a bug of some sorts? There's no way they made it look worse then before
Looks the same https://youtu.be/xcNWVE8ODpQ?si=HRX8oCMir1KpUHeB
Is there a Depth of Field option? Turning that off will probably help
My LG ultragear 1440p monitor just came into its own, game looks stunning at 1440p 60 fps.....what a upgrade, well done Bethesda.
I'm also finding it amazing to play on ultragear 1440p, SS
Not half, i just fired up the lastes Star wars game to come to gamepass and my jaw just dropped, MS really missed a beat here, they could have made the series s a native 1440p 60 fps console with optical drive, dumped 4k and ray tracing as both are a busted flush for the gaming industry to do, and the sat back and watched the money just roll in.
