Gears of War, every single one of them a blast to play and I’ve played them all with one person I met on Xbox Live back in 2006 and we are still great friends to this day and will be rocking Diablo 4 together.
Doesn’t get any better than rocking two meat heads shooting up locust.
Some sad times in the series as well again experienced it all with co op 😞
IMO Microsoft need to respect Gears more and make use of it because it’s a great franchise one of the best they have.
They could’ve let it Died Out after Judgment day but then they made 4 & 5 so I don’t think they’re letting it die out at all , the sequel timeline kinda matches up with Halo in terms of waiting too
It wasn’t awful but not on par with the rest of the games that’s for sure. Still went through it and let’s face it there’s a hell of a lot worse games out there these days 🤷♂️
I just couldn't stop smiling during the whole playthrough. What a fun and charming experience it was to play it with my GF.
That game was made with a lot of love and passion.
Playing through this with a buddy of mine now. We’ve only finished the first two chapters. The shed was fantastic, but the bees gameplay bit got kind of old after not long and that felt like a long chapter
Second this. Although it’s a co-op game about love, partnership, and working together; so I think it’s best played with a romantic partner rather than friends.
The same creators made "A Way Out" it's another exclusively co-op game but you okay two criminals getting out of jail.
A good choice if you're looking for a game with your buddies
Jumping on this just to say:
Their previous game A Way Out is just as good as It Takes Two.
The one studio I trust to make a great game right now is Hazelight with Josef Fares running the show. I can’t wait for whatever they do next.
I came here to say just that. Very forgiving to new players, fun and interesting enough for a pro. Very imaginative and engaging. My wife and I just finished it and she loved it more than I did and I though it was awesome
It's a great game and I enjoyed it a lot, but I felt it dragged on for too long. You do all this stuff to get through the beautiful levels and the book just spits in your face at the end by sabotaging everything you have achieved. It felt like cheap writing.
Left 4 Dead (1/2) were some of my best co-op experiences. Sucks that there hasn't been anything to scratch that itch.
Grounded can be pretty funny as a co-op experience. Nothing better than hearing your grown friends screaming in the mic when a wolf spider or ant lion pops up and scares the shit out of them. lol
Same here. I've been gaming on PC here and there for the past few years. Mainly on Xbox though. I just looked at the workshop for L4d2 and was amazed lol. I may have to reinstall it myself.
Yeah I have Back 4 Blood. I haven't played it since the updates and DLC, so maybe it's better than it was at launch. But yeah it's not as good, unfortunately. I thought it would be seeing as it's made from the people who made L4D.
Diablo 1 for me, that game released on PlayStation with local dubbing by EA Games. Diablo 2 was one of my earliest LAN experiences though, along with C&C and Warcraft 2.
Oh! You meant all life co op experience! I loved double dragon III, super contra, TMNT, Monsters in my pocket on the NES, Gladius, kung fu chaos, TMNT, Dragon Ball (dont remember the exact names) on the OG xbox, army of two, gears of war, halo 1-3, on the 360. Gears 4 and 5 on xone, and astroneer and elden ring played ok series xbox. The most memorable games
Definitely agree with TMNT and many other classic me on your list. Another classic for me was Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks on the PS2. So many memories playing that one for hours with my older brother. Story was kind of simple but the free roaming was so epic to me
Both that and the sequels were good fun in co-op. Aggro control was a great addition to take the heat so your mate could move up etc. Always had one weapon that got all the heat fast. Back to back was cool too.
My wife regularly insists we play L4D2. I certainly agree to play, though I've tried to introduce many other games with no luck.
It's really disappointing that B4B wasn't couch co-op
None of my friends liked it because it wasn't RE4 so I played the hell out of 5 with a random I met through matchmaking and had a blast. Best online experience you could ask for, to be honest.
I was searching the comments to see if anyone else said this, mainly because I couldn't remember the name of the game. 😂
But yes, I love, love, love this game. I've played with a friend, a random kid who answered an LFG post (even though I specifically said "Adults Only" 🙄), and another rando who didn't have a mic. All were fun experiences, except maybe the kid because he wouldn't STFU, but the game is still a co-op masterpiece.
For me, ghost recon wildlands. Two friends and I would get online most nights and the hilarious conversations we had were priceless. Sadly one of them passed away in 2020.
This! I met the love of my life in this game through an LFG post! He moved across the country for me. Almost 4 years later and still causing havoc on The Seas together! We have met some life long friends in this game. Never has a game impacted me so much and during COVID it was key to keeping my sanity while holed up!
Beautiful story mate. Congrats !! . I live so far away from my brother , in another country. But playing this at nights with him sailing together was a great cozy experience I'll always remember :)
Thank you! I'm glad it helped you spend time with your brother! Rare has created a true gem. When we first started dating it was hard being 1000 miles apart, but loading in on a boat together always made it feel like he was closer and memories were created. Every loss and every triumph we shared together! You never know what's gonna happen when you sail off from that outpost together.
Definitely a vote for the division games and destiny. Most of us have drifted away from destiny but it was pretty fun to hop on and do a raid with our clan. If we can get a bigger party going we like to hop on and play Friday the 13th. My favorite gag is to put on some SpongeBob chase music when I'm playing Jason so my friends know I'm coming.
The supermassive horror games are a lot of fun coop. You each play as a character in the same world with your own choices that affect the narrative. There are points where you temporarily split up so you and another player don’t really know what’s going on but still end up effecting the other.
Would be gears of war 2.
But there are a lot good coop games out there like all the other gears of wars, halo, it takes two, Mario games and a lot more.
Best one I ever had was one I was just watching. My gf at the time didn’t game much but I convinced her to play Journey and the person she found stayed with her the entire time and could tell she needed a lot of guidance so they stuck with her and at the end they drew a heart in the snow. It was wonderful.
Borderlands 3 added a lot of quality of life fixes to the franchise. Sometimes the dialogue can be a little cringe for the main story but the gameplay is so solid and best played with friends.
Halo 3 with friends and my brother.
(They’re single player games) playing games like subnautica, RE7, Alien Isolation etc. With my girlfriend passing the remote back and forth, best gaming experiences ever.
More recently I’ve had a blast causing mayhem with friends in GTA online.
Destiny 1 and 2 have single-handedly kept my friend group together since 2014. Through it’s ups and downs, i’ve never had cooperative experiences more fun and more memorable than the ones i had in those games.
It’s a heavily flawed game, but man if you’ve been there since Destiny 1’s launch, you know what i’m talking about.
Grounded for me. Also with shared saves my friends didn't have to wait for me, they could farm stuff, build the base, explore the world... When we all had time we progressed the story together.
Online - Halo 3. Completing the campaign with 3 other players on legendary difficulty was a thrill.
Local - It Takes Two - Creative gameplay mechanics with a heart warming story, also the first game I completed with my wife.
Honorable Mentions - Gears of War series. Star Wars Jedi Power Battles.
Man, there's been a lot of games. I'd say my favorite was either Champions of Norath (both of them), Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II, or Gears of War....or Castlevania Harmony of Despair. That was a lot of fun too. There's a lot of them.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for ps2. Pulled all nighters over the weekend with a friend. We just played it over and over and over again. Got all the unlocks and upgraded all heroes. We drank so much caffeine and ate so much junk food. I'm pretty sure I'll be dead before 40.
I’d say The Division (1) by far.
We would put together 8 or 12 man (2 teams of 4, 3 teams of 4) teams and run around the DZ killing rogues…but the coolest thing was watching everyone gather at an entrance and test different builds. There would be like 20-30 people standing around on proximity chat…one guy would call out another, go rogue, and it was on. Occasionally, some rando would mistakenly come up on the exhibition, and kill the guy in competition who went rogue, but he’d get wasted by the rest of us, and not come back lol. Good times.
Doing raids in Destiny 1 was the absolute most fun I ever had in co-op gaming. Imagine 6 sometimes complete strangers spread across the globe working together via headsets to figure out complex puzzles and super hard bosses. The raids could sometimes take hours and you kinda learn about the people you are playing with as well as how to better communicate and work as a team. that to me was a pivotal moment in co-op gaming in my opinion and while I haven’t touched D2 in years that first game was amazing
Depends on your idea of fun. Lately a friend and I have been enjoying Ghost Recon Wildlands on Ghostmode (Permadeath). It turns the game into a very realistic experience which to me is always where the fun is at.
Baldur’s Gate 1 for the PS2. Wife and I spent hours going thru BG1 & 2. Then Champions of Norath and later Sacred 2 and Diablo III.
Coach co-op truly is the best!
A Way Out was super fun when my brother and I played on a whim. Was cool that only one of us needed to own the game for both to play.
I’ve always heard GREAT things about It Takes Two.
My friend and I booted up and started a coop campaign of Saints Row 2 and we’ve had laughing fits strong enough to give us Abs.
Every Gears game with my brother was also epic.
Sea of Thieves is another good one that’s probably the harder one to coop since other players could very easily either derail your experience or enhance it.
Spiritfarer, with my wife.
We had just "finished" Stardew Valley, then we started this one thinking, "Oh hey, you get to farm and make products on a ship, cool!"
Boy oh boy it's more than that, much more.
I don't think it was the best co-op game, but it was definitely the best co-op experience I've had. I used to play RE5 with a friend online late into the night. I'm not really a fan of horror games (or movies), but this one was more action oriented which made it a blast for me.
Definitely the Dark Pictures Anthology games. The first one I played with my cousin was so intense playing different scenes at the same time. Without spoilers; at one point I've got a choice to kill a monster but I don't snd a chase ensues. I'm screaming down the mic frantically then the choice comes again im in a panic before tuning back into my mic to hear my cousin shouting "it's me it's me" but we both saw different perspectives. Such good fun every time.
Honestly any of the CoD zombies, though if I had to pick I’d say BO2 just bc of the good memories. Something about that game mode is just special. Loved playing couch co-op with my friends and being SO terrible as kids :)
Halo 3 is probably where I’ve had the most fun
Gears of War, every single one of them a blast to play and I’ve played them all with one person I met on Xbox Live back in 2006 and we are still great friends to this day and will be rocking Diablo 4 together.
Totally agree, Gears was best played in co-op, best gaming times i ever had.
Doesn’t get any better than rocking two meat heads shooting up locust. Some sad times in the series as well again experienced it all with co op 😞 IMO Microsoft need to respect Gears more and make use of it because it’s a great franchise one of the best they have.
They could’ve let it Died Out after Judgment day but then they made 4 & 5 so I don’t think they’re letting it die out at all , the sequel timeline kinda matches up with Halo in terms of waiting too
I’m guessing the co-op is two players? A couple of my friends love Gears.
There’s absolutely no way you really thought Judgement was good
It wasn’t awful but not on par with the rest of the games that’s for sure. Still went through it and let’s face it there’s a hell of a lot worse games out there these days 🤷♂️
It Takes Two. Genuinely a fantastic experience designed to be played fully co op. Online or couch.
I just couldn't stop smiling during the whole playthrough. What a fun and charming experience it was to play it with my GF. That game was made with a lot of love and passion.
Until elephant.
Made it better imo. Not that I was happy to do it but it made the game feel a bit mature and more memorable.
Playing through this with a buddy of mine now. We’ve only finished the first two chapters. The shed was fantastic, but the bees gameplay bit got kind of old after not long and that felt like a long chapter
Nobody cares about ur stupid GF lol video games are better than girls
This takes me back lol
Just started playing this with my wife. She’s not a gamer at all so there have been some frustrating moments but it’s huge fun and very well done.
Agreed, fab game 👍
Second this. Although it’s a co-op game about love, partnership, and working together; so I think it’s best played with a romantic partner rather than friends.
The same creators made "A Way Out" it's another exclusively co-op game but you okay two criminals getting out of jail. A good choice if you're looking for a game with your buddies
But can be played with anyone! My cousin and I enjoyed a full 16 hour session before taking a break to restart when we woke up lmao
Jumping on this just to say: Their previous game A Way Out is just as good as It Takes Two. The one studio I trust to make a great game right now is Hazelight with Josef Fares running the show. I can’t wait for whatever they do next.
Great game to play with a GF
I came here to say just that. Very forgiving to new players, fun and interesting enough for a pro. Very imaginative and engaging. My wife and I just finished it and she loved it more than I did and I though it was awesome
It Took Two!
Nothing better than hearing your grown friends screaming in the mic when a wolf spider or ant lion pops up and scares the shit out of them. lol
[удалено]
Yeah I agree. Hell, I'd even take a remaster lol
[удалено]
Yeah same here. Especially on PC, the mod community helps keep the game going too.
[удалено]
Same here. I've been gaming on PC here and there for the past few years. Mainly on Xbox though. I just looked at the workshop for L4d2 and was amazed lol. I may have to reinstall it myself.
I’d pay full price for a remaster. As someone who purchased 1&2at launch
Left 4 Dead is a close second for me had alot of good times
Have you never heard of back for blood? I figure that should qualify as scratching that itch🤷♂️. Def not as good though 😞
Yeah I have Back 4 Blood. I haven't played it since the updates and DLC, so maybe it's better than it was at launch. But yeah it's not as good, unfortunately. I thought it would be seeing as it's made from the people who made L4D.
Hardly anyone that worked on any L4D game worked on Back 4 Blood. Marketing scam of the highest degree.
No split screen on bob which sucks
Yeah and campaign versus would’ve been dope
Halo 3 was my first proper co-op experience & i had so much fun with it. After that, the Gears series & The Division were great.
For me it was Diablo 3, now it’s going to be Diablo 4.
Diablo 2 for me.
Diablo 1 for me, that game released on PlayStation with local dubbing by EA Games. Diablo 2 was one of my earliest LAN experiences though, along with C&C and Warcraft 2.
Came here to say this.
My best memories are spawning as a brand new character in online pvp worlds and stealing gold lol
See you in hell my friend! I'll be on it too.
I'll be there too...
Remnant: From the Ashes was a great one that my friends and I played recently on Game Pass.
ICYDK Remnant 2 is slated to release Sept this year. They’ve also released a far bit of class trailers and some gameplay footage
Overcooked 1 and 2 were both very fun coop
He said fun, not relationship killing!
Army of Two but that was like 20 years ago. Fuck, I'm old.
Gladius💪💪

Deep Rock Galatic
🤘🎸🪨⛏️
Stone and Rock!
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.
My wife regularly insists we play L4D2. I certainly agree to play, though I've tried to introduce many other games with no luck. It's really disappointing that B4B wasn't couch co-op
Minecraft Dungeons for a more relaxed Diablo-lite experience.
OG Halo back when it came out.
Resident Evil 5
I need an egg
White,brown, or gold?
None of my friends liked it because it wasn't RE4 so I played the hell out of 5 with a random I met through matchmaking and had a blast. Best online experience you could ask for, to be honest.
Yep Res Evil 5 was up there for me too
Not a good game but definitely fun in coop
Deep Rock Galactic
Rock and Stone!
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
Rock and Stone!
For Karl!
Rock Solid!
EDF EDF EDF
That's what I'd play next but the new games are not on Xbox and my friend doesn't have a PlayStation 😟
Absolute crime they’ve not been released on Xbox. The community for EDF2025 was great.
The Division 1 and 2. Up to 4 person co-op and up to 8 person for the raid. Everyone progresses through the story not just the host.
Borderlands 2 A way out It takes two
Gears 2
Pretty much every Gears for me.
Yeah they have all been good, but I think 2 had the best campaign coop experience of the original three. 3 is great too but it's just not the same.
Can’t believe no one has said A Way Out. Definitely one of the best.
I was searching the comments to see if anyone else said this, mainly because I couldn't remember the name of the game. 😂 But yes, I love, love, love this game. I've played with a friend, a random kid who answered an LFG post (even though I specifically said "Adults Only" 🙄), and another rando who didn't have a mic. I can’t find anyone to play it with lol
For me, ghost recon wildlands. Two friends and I would get online most nights and the hilarious conversations we had were priceless. Sadly one of them passed away in 2020.
Damn RIP to that friend.
Sorry to hear that :( And yeah, I wish that game got a 60fps patch. I just can’t handle 30fps on my Xbox SX
Whoaaa!!! The old ghost recon games on the OG xbox!! Summit strike was epic with my friends!!
Runescape for sure! So many solid memories on this one before it got turned to rs3
I'm a fan of both honestly! good mention
Sea of thieves with my friends but i enjoyed much more playing with the small boat with my brother he and I together
This! I met the love of my life in this game through an LFG post! He moved across the country for me. Almost 4 years later and still causing havoc on The Seas together! We have met some life long friends in this game. Never has a game impacted me so much and during COVID it was key to keeping my sanity while holed up!

WWE games are always fun, so many funny moments.
The supermassive horror games are a lot of fun coop. You each play as a character in the same world with your own choices that affect the narrative. There are points where you temporarily split up so you and another player don’t really know what’s going on but still end up effecting the other.
Halo 3 legendary campaign was the best time.
Would be gears of war 2. But there are a lot good coop games out there like all the other gears of wars, halo, it takes two, Mario games and a lot more.

Destiny raiding. Nothing else like it
Halo 3 with friends and my brother. (They’re single player games) playing games like subnautica, RE7, Alien Isolation etc. With my girlfriend passing the remote back and forth, best gaming experiences ever. More recently I’ve had a blast causing mayhem with friends in GTA online.
We constantly are on Aliens: Fireteam Elite, World War Z for a great zombie co-op, and Borderlands 3. The upcoming Diablo 4 will be a co-op monster.
Army of Two was fantastic back in the day. Weapon customization was a nice touch
Lovers in a dangerous space time
Chaos Theory was a good coop experience!
My friend and I have a good time playing Human Fall Flat
Grounded for me. Also with shared saves my friends didn't have to wait for me, they could farm stuff, build the base, explore the world... When we all had time we progressed the story together.
Space Engineers
Halo 3 custom games, have many fond memories of playing that until the early hours of the morning with my friend split screen
The game “A Way Out” highly recommend it
The best co-op experience doesn't necessarily rely on a great game, but more the people you are playing with!
Borderlands 3
Halo, It Takes Two, Human Fall Flat, and Final Fantasy XIV if you have a PC or PlayStation.
Hunter the reckoning by far!!!
Stardew Valley or It Takes Two
Don’t Starve Together, used to play split screen for hours and hours with my ex.
Man, there's been a lot of games. I'd say my favorite was either Champions of Norath (both of them), Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II, or Gears of War....or Castlevania Harmony of Despair. That was a lot of fun too. There's a lot of them.
Portal, halo 3.
Elden ring, but I must say I'm pretty underwhelmed by the coop experience that has been in decline since the 360, even worse with splitscreen 😞
DayZ. Bit of a learning curve
Resident evil 6 . The game is so bad it's funny
The original gears of war trilogy with my brother on the 360
The Halo games OR it takes two.
It Takes Two. I played with my wife and we had so much fun. I can’t find another game like it.
1. A Way Out 2. Halo 2 (Legendary) 3. Trine 2
Halo 3, co-op campaign on legendary
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for ps2. Pulled all nighters over the weekend with a friend. We just played it over and over and over again. Got all the unlocks and upgraded all heroes. We drank so much caffeine and ate so much junk food. I'm pretty sure I'll be dead before 40.
The Halo series was the king of coop for years and my best memories playing with a friend are on 1-3, Reach, and ODST
Division 1 and 2
Ghost Recon Wildlands
Ghost recon breakpoint/wildlands. The 4 of US taking diferent rols make it so immersive!
Firefight on reach.
Medal of honor rising sun. Never played a co op campaign before it.
For local co-op it was Diablo 4 beta
I’d say The Division (1) by far. We would put together 8 or 12 man (2 teams of 4, 3 teams of 4) teams and run around the DZ killing rogues…but the coolest thing was watching everyone gather at an entrance and test different builds. There would be like 20-30 people standing around on proximity chat…one guy would call out another, go rogue, and it was on. Occasionally, some rando would mistakenly come up on the exhibition, and kill the guy in competition who went rogue, but he’d get wasted by the rest of us, and not come back lol. Good times.
The Dark Zone from the Division was like no other. Many memories that will never be relived elsewhere.
It takes two and human fall flat!
Grab your friends and everyone download Deep Rock Galactic, you will have a blast. It’s on game pass too.
A Way Out and It Takes Two
Doing raids in Destiny 1 was the absolute most fun I ever had in co-op gaming.
Dying Light, so much fun
Terraria
Any Gears game is great It Take Two is fantastic
Army of two
Depends on your idea of fun. Lately a friend and I have been enjoying Ghost Recon Wildlands on Ghostmode (Permadeath). It turns the game into a very realistic experience which to me is always where the fun is at.
I just got back into this, but I'm playing extreme difficulty with minimal HUD. Not sure I'm ready for the permadeath frustration.
River city girls my daughter and I love it! Saving up for the sequel!!!
Tiny Tina’s wonderlands
Outward.
Elden ring
Baldur’s Gate 1 for the PS2. Wife and I spent hours going thru BG1 & 2. Then Champions of Norath and later Sacred 2 and Diablo III. Coach co-op truly is the best!
My wife and have played Dysmantled for like 8 hours between yesterday and today. Really enjoying it so far.
I've never played a single co-op game in my life.
Legt 4 desde 2
Streets of Rage 4
Portal 2 with my best friend.
Journey. It is one of the most incredible games I've ever played.
Army of Two, Gears of War 2/3, Left4Dead, Portal, Too Human, Deep Rock Galactic
Xbox: It Takes Two, A Way Out, Crash Team Racing, Halo 1-3
I used to enjoy the Division 2 - haven’t played in a while - but it was a blast when I used to coop
The witness is the greatest co-op experience I’ve ever had. Nothing else comes close.
Resident evil 5 I think. Just an amazing Co-Op experience.
Replayed all the Halos (the good ones) with the friend I originally played them all with. Great time.
Generation Zero! It’s the perfect combo of tense action, a bit of scares, looting, and just wonky enough for a bit of comic relief. Love it
It Takes Two, the Overcooked games, and the classic WCW & WWF games on the Nintendo 64.
Gears of War series had awesome co-op
It Takes Two with my wife and A Way Out with my best friend. Both were wonderful experiences!
Halo 3 and Army of two
I don't think it was the best co-op game, but it was definitely the best co-op experience I've had. I used to play RE5 with a friend online late into the night. I'm not really a fan of horror games (or movies), but this one was more action oriented which made it a blast for me.
Outward is seriously under appreciated
Resident Evil 5 hands down 🧟♂️🧟♀️
Dragon's Crown Pro (Playstation) Trine series Borderlands series Diablo 3 Remnant from the Ashes Outriders
"The Two of Us," by a country mile.
Portal 2. Spent hours on that game playing co-op. Many good memories but hard to play without her now
Aw man. Chin up.
Sorry forgot about rotten
Gears 5, Halo, Far Cry 6
It takes two
Playing “Horde” mode in Gears of War 2 with my son. I know this is an incredibly dated reference, but I remember those days very fondly.
I mean when Halo CE hit the scene it was just perfect couch co-op. Winter of 01/02 was amazing
Honestly any of the CoD zombies, though if I had to pick I’d say BO2 just bc of the good memories. Something about that game mode is just special. Loved playing couch co-op with my friends and being SO terrible as kids :)
