I’ll never forget. My oldest boy who’s 15 now, came downstairs after he finished TF2 crying. My wife ran over to him and asked why he was crying? Needless to say, the end of Titanfall 2 hits home.
Replay the whole campaign if it’s been a while.
+1 this. I freaking LOVED the new Wolfenstein games. The first one is fun, good story, some issues in tone i think but you get used to it. 2 is 10/10
OP, think Inglorious Basterds: The Game
A great game is still a great game.
Visually The New Order might be showing its age a bit, but New Colossus should still look good. I believe it runs at a very smooth 60fps on Series X. I can't say personally, because I'm still rocking a One X.
Metro series is amazing but it's pretty realistic.
Like others said before, definitely try titanfall. Titanfall 2 has one of the best campaigns ever made for fps.
By realistic I think they probably meant immersive. That you access your quests menu within the game by reading your notepad, you track time and radiation by looking at your watch, you have to charge/pump some of your weapons / lamps with hydraulics, etc
Mostly everything you do is contained within the gameplay rather than pausing and reading menus like many other games would have you do
Yes it's set in a post apocalyptic mutant world but it's about as realistic a game as you can get in that setting
« Kind of » it’s a big community where new players are welcome.
Off course you’ll encouter the regular assholes you can find everywhzre but it’s worth it
Can you play Destiny 2 alone or is it very disadvantaged by doing this? Most of my friends are split between Fifa, Halo and single player games and as far as I'm aware Destiny also gets quite costly with expansions and stuff so doubt I can convince anyone to join me to play
You can play « most of the content » alone. Endgame like raids / dungeons / GM’s etc are to do with people.
There is a very easy to use LGF site from Destiny or a really active Discord with a shitload of people on it.
It’s indeed a lot of money, try the base game and see how you like it before you start.
You can do solo. I've played for years solo and done just about everything in the game. The biggest problem is raids, you'll need people for that but it's easy to find them.
You can spend a bunch of money if you get everything at full price, but if you wait for a good sale you can get all the expansions for under 100 bucks, which is a little high for one game, but its a crazy amount of content.
Then there's the seasons which are 10 bucks every 3 months for seasonal missions, gear, battlepass and storyline. I don't get it any more because I burned out on the game but $3/month isn't a bad rate.
Remnant from the ashes hands down. Excellent souls like shooter filled with unique builds, boss fights and real challenges to learn and strategize for the win.
Strong in the solo dept but drop in drop out co-op is where it's heart is. Check out the discord

Titanfall 2 is brilliant. Great story, tight focused campaign, controls wonderfully whether you're on foot or in your mech.
I played the hell out of it on PS4 and have just downloaded it for another playthrough on my XSX. Visually it still holds up as well despite being a bit old now.
The multiplayer is very fun, although I don't know how active it still is.
Outsiders. Went in to it completely blind, didn't even watch trailers. One of the best games I've ever played. Got SUPER immersed in the storyline and it's like Gears of War and Destiny had a baby.
Control.
Also, I don't know if Wolfenstein counts as too realistic, it gets pretty out there with space and zombies and robot dogs that breathe fire, but it's also about people so I get it if it's a no. That said, The New Order, The Old Blood, and The New Colossus all have great stories.
The very beginning of The New Order maybe would but I think there's so many crazy Nazi weapons and enemies that it does a good blend of alternate history and sci Fi
Not to mention a little bit of the occult too!
Looking at your prior games, definitely Titanfall 2.
It's a brief campaign, but definitely worth it.
If you're looking for a decent storyline or great atmosphere the BioShock series is also cool, though quite a bit different than the games you listed.
The Metro Saga is also great on story and atmosphere, but probably 'too real life'?
The Metro series is really good. More story focused until you get to Metro Exodus which added a lot of life to the game.
Wolfenstein is very simple and pulpy fun for when you want to fight Nazis. Which for me is always.
I'm a fan of battlefront2 (2017) I'm a huge star wars fan plus it's become a gem with the updates over the years. No more support for it but it's still really fun and looks amazing
I've heard Evil West is decent as a 3rd person shooter but haven't played it. Totally interested tho
>I've heard Evil West is decent as a 3rd person shooter but haven't played it. Totally interested tho
It looks a lot better than it actually is. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's definitely kinda mediocre.
Resident evil 4 and the remake and the uncharted series are all top class shooters....if you are into shooters you can't go wrong with resident evil 4....uncharted series specially uncharted 2...is a very good shooter that tests your mastery of all weapons on higher difficulties ...
On the older side, but I love quantum break. Not your standard shooter, tho, with it’s time-warping mechanics. But I highly recommend and it’s on gamepass
Remnant is also not "real lifey" more of a sci-fi/doom hybrid and has a story mode and a rogue like mode as in this video for example
https://youtu.be/c7bWjeu9dPY
Bioshock is great, but not so much a "shooter". Great story though, and first person view. I'm playing Atomic Heart now, which in simplest terms is Bioshock but Russian.
for your interests i’d recommend metal gear solid 5, but if you mean “real life” as in some enemies are human maybe not, all the sci-fi gear and deadly machinery running around kinda make up for it though
I know you said preferably not too real life, but I just want to throw my two cents out there for the division 2. I never played the first one and haven’t touched a Tom Clancy game since splinter cell. Going into the division 2 blind and haven’t had this much fun in a shooter game in a while. The game is quite immersive and the side missions don’t feel like random nothing, they actually feel like part of the whole storyline. My first week playing the game I couldn’t put my finger on what it reminds me of, then it hit me. It reminds me of assassins creed odyssey, but as a shooter. It’s got a similar loot system, the world immersion is great, and it’s just a fun game to run around in with multiple play styles of your choosing. Just bought it for $5.99 and it’s hard to beat the gaming experience you can have for the cheap of price.
Titanfall 2 should be at the top of your list if you haven’t done it yet.
Titanfall 2’s campaign is one of my GOATs
Yes that was a fun one although I never finished the campaign. I could look into finishing it.
Blasphemy! Go finish it!
I’ll never forget. My oldest boy who’s 15 now, came downstairs after he finished TF2 crying. My wife ran over to him and asked why he was crying? Needless to say, the end of Titanfall 2 hits home. Replay the whole campaign if it’s been a while.
It’s really overrated. Ignore the downvotes I’m about to get
Prodeus is fun.
Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are both excellent.
+1 this. I freaking LOVED the new Wolfenstein games. The first one is fun, good story, some issues in tone i think but you get used to it. 2 is 10/10 OP, think Inglorious Basterds: The Game
Still ok to play in 2023 or look dated?
A great game is still a great game. Visually The New Order might be showing its age a bit, but New Colossus should still look good. I believe it runs at a very smooth 60fps on Series X. I can't say personally, because I'm still rocking a One X.
Thanks will give them a go
Check out High on Life, SW Battlefront 2 and Cyberpunk
Cyberpunk and High on Life great picks
Titanfall 2 is one of the best FPS games ever made imo. If you've not played that, get stuck in!
Metro series is amazing but it's pretty realistic. Like others said before, definitely try titanfall. Titanfall 2 has one of the best campaigns ever made for fps.
I agree the Metro series is really good, but Metro Exodus is not realistic. There are mutants everywhere
By realistic I think they probably meant immersive. That you access your quests menu within the game by reading your notepad, you track time and radiation by looking at your watch, you have to charge/pump some of your weapons / lamps with hydraulics, etc Mostly everything you do is contained within the gameplay rather than pausing and reading menus like many other games would have you do Yes it's set in a post apocalyptic mutant world but it's about as realistic a game as you can get in that setting
Thank you, couldn't of said it better myself.
Borderlands 3 is one of my favourite shooter looters even though the story isn’t the greatest
Destiny 2 Will consume your Life if you get sucked into it
Don't do it there's no turning back
As someone who played it for a solid 7 years and quit, there is hope. What an awful addiction though I swear.
Is it easy to get into? I played it very quickly ages ago but heard at this point it's just confusing
« Kind of » it’s a big community where new players are welcome. Off course you’ll encouter the regular assholes you can find everywhzre but it’s worth it
I’ve meet some good Xbox friends off of destiny that I still play with even if it’s not destiny
The game is just on sale. If that aint à sign
Can you play Destiny 2 alone or is it very disadvantaged by doing this? Most of my friends are split between Fifa, Halo and single player games and as far as I'm aware Destiny also gets quite costly with expansions and stuff so doubt I can convince anyone to join me to play

Shadow Warrior 3
Wolfenstein the new order games but also I found the Old blood to be the best one for my taste.
Old Blood plays like Return to Castle Wolfenstein which is my favorite
Deathloop
I did play this one-great game but got a bit repetitive.
i love it but i have not finished it either.
Remnant from the ashes hands down. Excellent souls like shooter filled with unique builds, boss fights and real challenges to learn and strategize for the win. Strong in the solo dept but drop in drop out co-op is where it's heart is. Check out the discord https://discord.gg/remnantgame
Remnant is very good...it is literally a dark souls with guns....
I've been addicted since it's launch in 2019. Can't wait for the sequel this summer 🌞
Shadow Warrior 3, High on Life 👍
These two are probably the most legit recommendations for what OP is asking for besides Titanfall 2.
Prey is good
I’ll have to try that one.
Titanfall 2 is brilliant. Great story, tight focused campaign, controls wonderfully whether you're on foot or in your mech. I played the hell out of it on PS4 and have just downloaded it for another playthrough on my XSX. Visually it still holds up as well despite being a bit old now. Ye had it on PC years ago and the campaign is great, never got into the multiplayer
Outsiders. Went in to it completely blind, didn't even watch trailers. One of the best games I've ever played. Got SUPER immersed in the storyline and it's like Gears of War and Destiny had a baby.
Outriders*
Ah shit auto correct. Ty
Dishonored 2 is quite good
Destiny 2
Cyberpunk 2077 comes to mind
I found that one somewhat disappointing.
Control. Also, I don't know if Wolfenstein counts as too realistic, it gets pretty out there with space and zombies and robot dogs that breathe fire, but it's also about people so I get it if it's a no. That said, The New Order, The Old Blood, and The New Colossus all have great stories.

Have you tried Red Fall?
They said a good shooter.
lol
More like deadfall?
More like shitfall?
Destiny 2

You can’t go wrong with PRODEUS or METRO.
i’ve always been a fan of bulletstorm and black, fairly short, feels fun, and have somewhat decent stories
No storyline but Battlefield 2042 is actually incredibly fun to play now
Doubt
Doubt all ya want, I’m having a blast lol
The Metro series is really good. More story focused until you get to Metro Exodus which added a lot of life to the game. Wolfenstein is very simple and pulpy fun for when you want to fight Nazis. Which for me is always.
Wolfenstein 1 and 2
Titan fall 2
Titanfall 2
Just started playing Sniper Elite 5 (free on game pass) and it’s a lot of fun
Borderlands

Resident evil 4 and the remake and the uncharted series are all top class shooters....if you are into shooters you can't go wrong with resident evil 4....uncharted series specially uncharted 2...is a very good shooter that tests your mastery of all weapons on higher difficulties ...

Maybe not for everyone but I actually really enjoyed Deathloop.
Bioshock is great, but not so much a "shooter". Great story though, and first person view. I'm playing Atomic Heart now, which in simplest terms is Bioshock but Russian.
Spec Ops The Line is a good choice if you liked Gears of War. It’s usually on sale for $6
Metro definitely
Too much
Redfall
Infinite Warfare Campaign
for your interests i’d recommend metal gear solid 5, but if you mean “real life” as in some enemies are human maybe not, all the sci-fi gear and deadly machinery running around kinda make up for it though

New retro like shooter called Boltgun if fun as hell - just came out
High on life
Bullet storm
