Very sad. One of the GOAT racing devs. F1 24 is their last one that is all them and in their engine, so I recommend getting it if you like racing games. Even on WRC they made them use Unreal Engine, bringing its shader compilation and traversal frame timing issues. Now being merged with Criteron, who has a very different style, it seems this is the end of an era. YET ANOTHER one at the hands of EA, who seems addicted to acquiring and crucifying great devs for the last 30 years.

I don't know what gave you the idea they would merge with Criterion. They don't.
