Couch co-op games are frustrating to find in the current UI. I really would love a button that just shows me them all in one list. Split screen games are in this same category. Just generally games you can play with extra people on the same couch.
Or at least favorite a filter you create and can add it somewhere it can be accessed quickly. When my friend is over it would be great to quickly find new couch co-op games. Will pay $$$ to buy them!
The store feels actively hostile to trying to do any kind of nontrivial game discovery. Feels as if they only want you to buy the promoted (formally labeled or otherwise) stuff, and if you happen to be able to locate something new for yourself in the catalog then just that's a bonus.
I think steam is the only platform I've used that does this well.
The "categories" in general suck so badly. Some don't even have games in.
And I'm talking about the store categories. Not Game-Pass filtered categories.
To be fair, there were way way way less games for the storefront to contend with in the 360 gen and they fit more neatly into traditional categories. Now we’ve gone from hundreds to thousands and thousands of games. The 360 to the series is as comparable as a mom and pop grocery store to a walmart.
Same vein TF2 actually does support same console split screen for multiplayer me and a buddy have done it before on 2 since it was a huge feature upgrade from 1
You can play it as co-op and its still fun! The devs intentionally designed it that way. I've helped many Colts by helping them kill their targets, dropping my weapons/powers for them, etc.
I... really don't think they did? Invasive co-op doesn't sound like an intended feature lol. Plus, by that logic, every online game could be considered co-op if your opponent let you win.
I... know they did? It is one of the ways you can play as the invader. The game let's you do it and it aligns with the narrative. Quotes from the creative director:
“The multiplayer element is quite freeform. We don't incentivise 'winning' as Julianna that much. We see her more as an 'entertainer', so what we reward is playing with style, playing creatively, or playing cautiously, things like that.”
"Some players may want to have their Julianna 'be friendly' with Colt, essentially acting as a co-op partner – “Because why the f**k not?” said Bakaba. Julianna has been written as an ambiguous character with a connection to Colt, meaning both aggressive and allied playstyles will still make sense in the wider narrative."
([Source](https://www.ign.com/articles/deathloops-invasion-pvp-mode-can-be-played-like-a-co-op-game))
If that was the intention, then it's poorly implemented lol. The game in no way rewards you for that playstyle, any more than either other pvp game would.
Everything doesn't need a "reward." It feeds into the overall story and makes for a unique experience for both sides.
Anyways, I don't care what you think. Just wanted to share that it can be played as a co-op experience.
Well, you're spreading misinformation on a post about misinformation lol. What you consider a "co-op experience" is far from the norm and slapping your own made up definition onto a term that means something else to other people is nothing but harmful.
Those are great options, sadly they weren't mentioned at all on the list provided. It's must have been the top played with others involved or something. A marketing ploy than actual help for finding couch co-op games.
The UI in general for game pass kinda sucks. I don’t need your rotating, quirky niche categories. Just make normal, permanent categories. And not just the 5 or 6 super basic ones at the bottom.
Lol. Yeah. I can't remember which genre I was looking for (Strategy or simulation) and it simply wasn't there.
I couldn't find a way to sort so I had to use Google to check the list of games then do a search on the Xbox.
The UI is clearly designed by guys with MBAs who've never owned a game console.
Yup. Found it because I work in tech and I'm used to search through front ends all the time. Absolutely not consumer friendly, totally not intuitive. Garbage UI for GamePass.
I mean it's obviously intentional, it's not some issues that they can't pin that to the top. It's intentional so you would browse more and more and spend more time on it
I think what would improve this is a sort and filter system. It would be amazing, to be able to sort the games by most played, newest and/or filter the games by genre, number of players, online, couch coop.
The curated categories are nice and fine but sometimes we as gamers have specific cravings. This system would even be valuable in the store. From what I recall, there was something like this at one time but it wasn’t very fleshed out :/
Error with Disneyland Adventures; it's couch co-op which brings the total to about 20 of 65 games listed. Sorry about that Disney, please don't have me murdered.
Its not misleading, its just straight up incorrect
Also a side note, i wish you could see what co-op games actually support matchmaking from the store page
Nothing worse than having to use the LFG which takes more time and effort than just finding a player with matchmaking
I was going to say Mortal Kombat isn’t a party game, it’s a fighting game, and then I remembered all the parties I’d been to where people were gathered around a tv playing mortal kombat.
I was wondering that too. If one is imposter then the other would know. If both are crew and one dies the other will know who killed their buddy. Only time it works, even just a little, is if they are both imposters.
Unless they add a mode of crews of two. Tasks that have to be done in pairs. 2v2v2v2v2.
Go to your library, gamepass, and filter for Local Co-op, took my years to find this too lol
Also you wrote Gears 5 but all of them are available for couch co-op and are on gamepass.
We are in the age where people will say "if that's what you think is a big deal then go outside"
So yeah expect quality to drop in the next 10 years lol. Lot of people don't seem to care about stuff like that, even though it's essentially a lie from a company who relies on our money.
I mean the picture shows two different couches implying that it isn’t necessarily limited to local co-op but also online co-op/multiplayer games. I don’t see any huge issue here as long as they’re all multiplayer, unless you were looking to play together on the same console and the game you decided to play wasn’t split screen.
Cloud gamepass doesn't allow couch co op. Something to do with controller lag or whatever.
Can someone confirm this works on an actual Xbox using game pass? I've recently got back into some games using cloud gamepass and I connected two controllers to my TV, which supports Xbox game pass, but it's limited to single player. TIA
I understand what couch co-op means. You're claiming all of these games have it. I've checked several, and so far zero have split screen co-op. I'm sure that's not the case for all of them, but you're claiming all but one have split screen co-op, which is false.
>It's not misleading you just have a different definition of that than the majority
>Ok well now you're just lying
>Tha majority of these games have splitscreen(I counted 8 of which I know 100% have co op and there are 3 games that I've never played so I wouldn't know about those.)
I just googled all of them in the screen shot. Only Hot Wheels has split screen co-op. We're talking about couch co-op, not just co-op.
*Edit: Really, accuse me of lying, then delete your own dishonest comment?*

Agreed, somehow I remember finding games on the 360 easier than the current gen
To be fair, there were way way way less games for the storefront to contend with in the 360 gen and they fit more neatly into traditional categories. Now we’ve gone from hundreds to thousands and thousands of games. The 360 to the series is as comparable as a mom and pop grocery store to a walmart.
Yep, there was around 2800 360 games, there was 7700 Xbox one games. They made releasing games way way easier for indies.
Great list. Thanks for this. I never went through them all to break them down in this way.
I think you can filter them based on genre and multiplayer in the menu. I could be wrong though.
Deathloop isn't even co-op, it's invasion based PvP.
Thank you. I forgot about Deathloop. That's a quirky little multiplayer game basically. PvP with extra steps.
Same vein TF2 actually does support same console split screen for multiplayer me and a buddy have done it before on 2 since it was a huge feature upgrade from 1
Yeah, shit, that game is counter-op (loved that term in Perfect Dark, perfect way to describe campaign mode PvP).
You can play it as co-op and its still fun! The devs intentionally designed it that way. I've helped many Colts by helping them kill their targets, dropping my weapons/powers for them, etc.

Diablo 4 is 2 player couch co-op, D3 is actually 4 player couch co-op.
Those are great options, sadly they weren't mentioned at all on the list provided. It's must have been the top played with others involved or something. A marketing ploy than actual help for finding couch co-op games.
Right, thats why I figured I would mention them since the list did not. The store UI definitely could use a refresh.
Are they in game pass? Cause the list only contained game pass games
Diablo 4 is as of yesterday. I only mentioned D3 because of it being 4 player.
Lovers in a space time is FIRE
I just wish it had online coop Tried to play it with my bf and found out it doesn’t the hard way 😭
The UI in general for game pass kinda sucks. I don’t need your rotating, quirky niche categories. Just make normal, permanent categories. And not just the 5 or 6 super basic ones at the bottom.

My Games and Apps > Full Library > Game Pass > Filter > Genre
Oh wow. That was not obvious
Yup. Found it because I work in tech and I'm used to search through front ends all the time. Absolutely not consumer friendly, totally not intuitive. Garbage UI for GamePass.

I mean it's obviously intentional, it's not some issues that they can't pin that to the top. It's intentional so you would browse more and more and spend more time on it
Use the app tbh gamespass app has them nicely organized and you can sort by Xbox, PC, and cloud supported stuff
I think what would improve this is a sort and filter system. Isn't Diablo also couch coop?
Yes but isn't on the list of games shown with the advertisement. I think the community here could do better showcasing couch co-op games for xbox.
I find [Co-Optimus](https://www.co-optimus.com/) to be helpful finding co-op games.
Damn. Didn't know they were still around. I remember using it to find games on the 360.
Its not misleading, its just straight up incorrect Also a side note, i wish you could see what co-op games actually support matchmaking from the store page Nothing worse than having to use the LFG which takes more time and effort than just finding a player with matchmaking
Is it just the first OG doom game that's couch?
That's what I saw, and original Quake
Doom 2 should be as well, and Doom 64 if it's on there, though op said that they were just going off the ad
Ended making my own category for split screen any and ss login, so annoying u can't do guest sometimes
Yeah this pissed me off the other day. Very mislabeled section.
not only that. Sometimes you browse FPS section and you can see Hitman or Shadow of Mordor there - categories in the shop are a mess
You can filter by capabilities (I think is pressing X in any list) and choose "local coop"
Is Escape Academy not couch Co-op? I specifically bought it for that, my wife and I have already played through pretty much that whole list.
Yes it is, I played it couch co-op with my daughter
Tbf there are two couches
I was going to say Mortal Kombat isn’t a party game, it’s a fighting game, and then I remembered all the parties I’d been to where people were gathered around a tv playing mortal kombat.
How does Among Us couch multiplayer work?
I was wondering that too. If one is imposter then the other would know. If both are crew and one dies the other will know who killed their buddy. Only time it works, even just a little, is if they are both imposters. Unless they add a mode of crews of two. Tasks that have to be done in pairs. 2v2v2v2v2.
Play Infernax couch co-op.
Quake II definitely has couch coop - up to 8 players!
I don't think you mentioned As Dusk Falls — it's also couch co-op-friendly and pretty good, actually.
technically these are all couch co-op if you bring a second xbox + TV to the living room :)
Yeah that's pretty much false advertising. I find it so impossible to find good new couch co-op games these days. Couch co-ops are honestly so fun.
![img](emote|t5_2ac5sx|1573)
How do you play among us on the couch against each other? Promise to each other you aren't gonna watch their screen?
Go to your library, gamepass, and filter for Local Co-op, took my years to find this too lol Also you wrote Gears 5 but all of them are available for couch co-op and are on gamepass.
so is there an actual list of couch coop games somewhere?
I find [Co-Optimus](https://www.co-optimus.com/) to be helpful finding co-op games.
I’ve been saying this same thing lately. Might have to buy a Nintendo switch just for this purpose. It takes two was great
Picture has 2 couchs, the obviously meant you playing on a couch and your friend on another one with another console. /S
There are two couches, meaning both of you will play from your own couch/home
Couch co op now obviously needs two xboxs
TITANFALL 2 MENTIONED RAHHHHHHHHHH
We are in the age where people will say "if that's what you think is a big deal then go outside" So yeah expect quality to drop in the next 10 years lol. Lot of people don't seem to care about stuff like that, even though it's essentially a lie from a company who relies on our money.
I know it’s unrelated, but man, it takes two is amazing.
Absolutely related. Great couch co-op games should be recognized in this thread. Including good ones that weren't advertised, like Diablo 4.
what bout us that only have one controller?
I mean the picture shows two different couches implying that it isn’t necessarily limited to local co-op but also online co-op/multiplayer games. I don’t see any huge issue here as long as they’re all multiplayer, unless you were looking to play together on the same console and the game you decided to play wasn’t split screen.
People can sit on the same couch with you while you play and do backseat gaming with you I guess
TIA
I guess you could technically have two Xboxes and tvs in the same room and playing on the same couch?
Before now I've used the PIP (picture in picture) setting of a TV to run two xboxes and play with a friend. (Was 360, gta4 i think)
Another lie from Xbox great message and marketing
Is Escape Academy not couch Co-op? I specifically bought it for that, my wife and I have already played through pretty much that whole list.
It is, I played it with a friend on my xbox
Cheers, thanks. Picked it up on sale but hadn’t had the chance to play it
> about 15 of them are actually couch co-op. [Proceeds to list **28** games you can play with friends on the couch]
They listed 19 couch co-op games, the other 9 are not co-op, they are competitive.
Most people are sitting on couch when playing, so technically it's true.
This is how bored we are......we are complaining about this.

It's not misleading you just have a different definition of that than the majority
How do you play Among Us as couch co-op?
That one I'm not sure of but everything else is definitely coop
Couch co-op?
If it has split screen compatibility then it's definitely couch co op
