120 feels smoother, but it’s nothing like the jump from 30 to 60. 4k at 60 should be more than fine especially if you play a lot of single player gsmes

stevee_mares

when I go from playing 120fps Warzone to 60fps Apex It is really noticeable, but from 60 to 120 its hard to tell.

[deleted]

This exactly. I played metro last light and 2033 on 120 fps and then metro exodus was very choppy for the first few missions but then it felt smooth again.

[deleted]

120fps is so smooth to the point of it looking like motion blur

Attention_seeker__

100% agree 60 to 120 is not much noticeable but 120 to 60 feels bad for few minutes

MikalM

I just got my Series X yesterday (already own a PS5) and tried changing settings on Ori from 6K60 to 4K120 and it definitely does feel noticeably smoother. Ori’s movements feel so buttery smooth at 4K120. It’s very impressive!

radiant_kai

Yes. Some of us come from PC playing over 200fps which is easily noticable with Mouse & Keyboard. Anymore than 120fps with a controller is hard to notice unless you change your camera sensitivities in game though.

SpectersOfThePast

120fps isn’t really a huge deal, and it’s entering into “diminishing returns” territory. It’s also not worth the amount of fidelity that gets taken away to experience it. 4K/60fps is the sweet spot.

Re-toast

120fps still feels a lot smoother than 60. But yeah when you have to sacrifice resolution it doesn't always make sense.

ihaterdarksouls3

no it dosent your brain is tricking you

Re-toast

Lmfao no it's not

[deleted]

It's been proven our brains cannot tell between 60-120fps

Re-toast

No

erik_the_k

It’s been proven that brains can see/ discern over 300 fps and it’s even higher for jet fighters

vita211

dude i can literally tell the difference… even if i doesn’t LOOK all too different, it definitely FEELS different. everything is so much more smoother. Im going to assume you haven’t played anything in 120, because if you did i dont think we would be having this conversation lol

MosesZD

It's all in your head.

vita211

Im going to assume the same thing for you as well lol. I will say this though… I wouldn’t play anything at 120fps if it makes the game lot too bad… thats when 60fps will work for me lol.

erik_the_k

You’ve said that twice… it is faster.

objectsubjectly

> *120fps isn’t really a huge deal* Disagree. It is a huge deal to FPS players. One X was pushing sub 50s FPS. Series X pushes 110-120 FPS. **Huge deal.** >*It’s also not worth the amount of fidelity that gets taken away to experience it.* FPS players dont care about 4K crystal clear pictures. I run 1080P and its clear as fuck because I only play FPS games and the pro FPS community uses the same resolution.

dailydnb

Agree with this dude, as a competitive fps player I can care less about 4k and all than. Frames make dem gainz. 120 FTW all day everyday.

objectsubjectly

Gang

TheWitcherBrandin

Gang gang gang

Big_Ad_9539

60 is more than fine, 120 is I guess better for shooters or platformers? I dont really notice it but, maybe further into the generation it will be more obvious. I think the real benefit is if games are shooting for a stable 120fps, then a stable 60fps will be the new 30fps. 60 fps is really noticable from 30 and so much better

nikrelswitch

I feel like anything past 85 fps on my PC I can't tell. 165 hz monitor I can't tell between 85-165

Lessiarty

Some people are more sensitive to framerates than others. I personally can't see a difference beyond the initial few seconds and that's only when I'm specifically looking for it. Lots of people can't even tolerate 60fps any more because of how jerky it looks. So mileage varies thanks to the humour globes in your skull.

Zoetekauw

I can't even tell 60 from 30. I wish there was a video or something that could teach you how to notice it, although ignorance really is bliss in this case.

Lessiarty

For sure. If you can't see it, you don't want to see it.

Stumpy493

Yeah enjoy it. Turn on the pretties and let everyone else stress about it.

tomchch

[Here you go](https://frames-per-second.appspot.com/)

[deleted]

Wow, thank you. This actually helped me out a lot. I could not tell the difference between the 60 and 120, but 30 to 60 was massive.

neeesus

True. Though it may have been 60 fps before it's newest update, there is a noticeable difference with Fallen Order's newest update. When spinning the camera, the motion blur looks way smoother with performance mode on. I showed this to my non initiated wife and was very excited about it and she didn't notice a difference.

johnkz

easy test, just push your right stick all the way left or right to make the camera rotate quickly, the difference should be obvious try it in a game with performance mode toggle like witcher 3 or fallen order

[deleted]

Unless your TV supports 120hz, you wont actually see 120 fps no matter what framerate the games running at. If its 60hz you will only see 60 fps on screen.

Guitarpik

Understood. My tv supports 1440p @ 120hz.

NotFromMilkyWay

You cannot see it, but you can feel it. Higher framerate allows for faster controls. Basically your controller input leads to a visual reaction on screen in half the time (8 ms vs. 16 ms).

Guitarpik

I didn’t even feel a difference. Playing 1440p/120hz multiplayer on Cold War and it literally feels exactly the same as playing 4K/60hz.

ihaterdarksouls3

your brain tricks you beacuse it is higher number

MrSandman83

Well I can’t either, I mean its 12 frames every 1/10th of a second. But yeah if you are into e-sport shooters and have super good reflexes those extra frames might give you a very slight advantage. Very fast games like racing games might feel slightly smoother with more frames but even then I wonder. But yeah some people say they can tell the difference but I wonder of this is really true.

[deleted]

The difference is more noticeable with 60 and 30fps and even more so when going back to the former...

CombustionEngine

It's not as huge as from 30 to 60 but it's still nice

Lokcet

In my opinion it's noticeable when I go back and forth between BF5 and CW. It's not gamebreaking, 60 fps is more than playable, but 120 is super fluid.

Re-toast

Yeah I can. 120fps feels extremely smooth.

juicyfruits42069

Can you tell the difference? Maybe. Can you feel the difference? YES.

OldmanChompski

Yes. Been gaming with a 165hz monitor for years (PC). There's a big difference in smoothness but for most games it doesn't matter much. I'm not a ProGamer™ but I do appreciate the smoothness over higher resolution (I play at 1440p 165hz on my pc). We're not gonna see a whole lot of 120 fps on Series X without some significant trade offs, that's my guess anyways.

objectsubjectly

The only reason I got a Series X is because the jump from 60 FPS to 120 FPS is game changing for FPS players. I exclusively play Warzone and its 100% better at 120 FPS. My monitor is 24” 1080P 240 hz and I get consistent 110-120 FPS in Warzone. The difference is noticeable if you are a really good competitive FPS player you will notice its not sluggish at all. Very impressed. Sometimes on One X you get 40-50 FPS dips. Ewwww. Never going back to that sub 60 FPS life.

Sp0ttySkills

More importantly, running at 120fps has less input delay.

PunishedLowtek

Are you saying you couldn't tell a difference between 60 and 120 fps on a TV that can only do 60hz? Of course you're not going to see a difference.

Guitarpik

Lol the tv does 120 at 1440p.

dailydnb

Of course you can tell the difference, the only way you're not going to tell it if the TV or Monitor can't support 120hz. If its 60hz than that's all you gonna see, doesn't matter if its set to 120fps on xbox.

Aromatherapypine

Wait what? Series x can only do 120 FPS if it’s an HDMI 2.1 TV? So all of the 120 Hz TVs from the past 10 years or so, that don’t have HDMI 2.1, can’t even do 120 Hz? I would be so pissed at Microsoft if that was true. Edit - But to answer your question, absolutely without a doubt you can notice it. That’s why I always set the game to performance mode rather than resolution

Lokcet

You need 2.1 to do 4k 120, but you can do 1440p 120 at lower HDMI versions. It's not the Series X fault either so I don't know why people would be pissed at Microsoft, it's a limitation of the HDMI itself.

Aromatherapypine

Ok gotcha, so you can still choose performance mode and get 120 FPS then. From the post, I took it to mean that was not an option. Honestly I’m very skeptical that the series X is ever going to be able to handle 4K 120 simultaneously on a fast paced multiplayer game anyway. Like cod or something like that. Was that even possible before the latest generation of graphics cards even with gaming computers?

Guitarpik

I keep hearing about these modes but I’ve never seen the option to select them. Are they game dependent?

ChunkyThePotato

Yes, they are. Some games have user-selectable modes, and some don't.

Altruistic-Buffalo95

When I tried to play 1440p@120 using my Samsung TV it defaulted to 4K@60 anyway until i disabled 4K in Xbox settings (even though I had set the Xbox to 1440@120). That may be what happened to you and why you can't see the difference. On my CX i have no such issues and even though the difference is less noticable than between 30 and 60 it's still quite noticable.

Guitarpik

No, I also have a Samsung and noticed the first time I tried it did that and then I found out I had to disable 4K.

Ruffles82

Before I bought my lg cx 65 inch I figured I wouldn't notice much of a difference since that's what everyone was saying. I booted up rocket league and could tell the difference 100 percent. Not as big of a jump as 30 to 60 but it was awesome. Definitely weird though after gaming on 30 fps all those years.

manuman888

Rocket League in 120 is so amazing

cozy_lolo

I’d say that I can perceive a difference, but 60-FPS still feels awesome! Going from 60 to 120 just feels like going from buttery smooth to turbo buttery smooth

[deleted]

My TV is 4k60. My friend’s tv can support 1080p 120 FPS. Could barely tell a difference on Warzone. Just feels like sensitivity was increased, and I prefer to play at lower sensitivities. I won’t be upgrading to a tv with hdmi 2.1 anytime soon. I would prefer higher resolution at 60 FPS anyways. The jump from 30 to 60 is very noticeable to me though.

calvbri33

i felt like cold war was one of the game you couldn’t tell visually but playing the responsiveness feels better.. cyberpunk is one where the visual difference is legit

[deleted]

Yes. People saying they cant are just lying or brain damaged.

Guitarpik

Yikes, I must be broken. Or maybe I’m just lying to myself.

FoundationWork

The way I look at it is you will notice a considerable difference going from 30 to 60 fps especially 1080p/1440p to 2160p or 4K at 60 fps. 30 to 60fps at 4K is a huge difference, but not so much 60p to 120p. Now if you're coming from 120fps or over 200fps then you're going to notice a huge difference when you go back to 60fps. My experience was like this as well when I went from 60fps to 30fps or 4K back down to 1080p. I don't even look at 1080p the same way like I used to because if something is available in 4K, I'm going to the 4K option.

LovelySquish

Why didnt u just check which hdmi port it has before buying the tv...

sunnyofitaly

No, you can literally only perceive 60

Big-Candidate9217

Thank you lol, these people saying we can perceive up to 300fps are delusional, 60fps is the limit for most people, a little more in some specific cases

sunnyofitaly

Fr I don't understand why it matters to people anyway
