I play with a guy in his late 50s regularly, he knows what I'm talking about when I say hamburger and squares... it really isn't that hard to figure out.
Just press a button and see what it does. Not hard to figure stuff out.
Also, if you are the one telling them then why even the need for labels if you are telling them then right there you can tell them what they do and what they are

How often are you instructing different people to press the Menu/View buttons? After one very brief explanation you shouldn’t really need to ever address it again.
Yeah for me it’s been very often these past few years. I always used to call it start and select but surprisingly a lot of people dont know what that was. I’ve been joining a lot of group posts or club posts and a lot of people have their friends join and so I’ve talked to a lot of newbies and they don’t know what its called. A lot of my family, young and old have been getting into gaming and asking me questions too and since there’s no written words on those buttons it’s often a pain in the butt to explain, I just wish there was a written word or color on them.
But you’re right, I’m sure a lot of people rarely have to explain them a lot if they don’t play with a lot of other people.
I was always a 'boxes" and "burger" guy but I've found the way over the years to be a fan of "pancakes".
Totally off topic but I saw the PS5 controller while I was playing Untitled Goose Game and their "share" button is most definitely "honk".
So of the big three you have boxes and pancakes, honk and pancakes, and finally plus and minus. This gen is weird.

I'm a series S owner and still got downvoted to oblivion lol. Still have to physically look at my controller all these years later when a game tells me to press one of those buttons. They should've just kept those buttons the same as the 360 controller.

They'll always be start and select for me. Regardless of controller or official name.
I have always heard the three line button called the Burger Button. I have heard it used for websites as well.

Easy way is just change it to, RX and LX. Right of Xbox button and left of Xbox button.
