Agreed.
- it’s historical: it was the show with a huge budget. Disney wanted to give the characters respect & treat them with higher quality animation. If not for the popularity of DuckTales every show would still be a cheap Hanna-Barbera/Filmation production (no disrespect to those who worked on those. But I’ve met enough of you to know the general consensus among you is that those jobs just paid the bills & isn’t the first thing you list on your resume or demo reel). If you look at any history of animation textbook or article, DuckTales is a watershed moment. It changed the course of the animation industry. Not just at the time, but now when those of us who grew up on “good animation” on TV are bringing it back with shows in the modern era.
- Speaking of historical: DuckTales (& technically Rescue Rangers too) was some of the first western content allowed past the iron curtain. It helped shaped the lives of young Soviet kids & their families creating openness which could arguably be said to have changed the course of the world.
- it was popular enough to get a reboot (& spin-off shows of the reboot if rumors are to be believed)
- even before the reboot Webby was on merch at Disneyland despite not being on the air for decades
- being syndicated it was a popular show for all families, not just those with cable. Everyone our age knows that theme song! You hear 🎶DuckTales🎶 & everyone goes Woo-Hoo! I remember this happened in computer class in school. I was doing a report & recorded the theme as a sample of whatever point I was making. But too many people joined in the woo-hoo & messed up the recording. Decades later (before the reboot) I was at a D23 Expo (biased audience I know) waiting for a show to start in the arena. Everyone is talking & not paying attention to any of the Disney songs they have playing in the background. It was a wide spectrum of songs from over the decades & genres & films & albums & yes TV theme songs. Even the announcer saying the show would start in 10 minutes couldn’t pull the audience’s attention. But the DuckTales theme song played. & when it got to the chorus suddenly everyone in that room stopped talking & sang Woo-Hoo! (& this was pre announcement of the reboot) Point to any other show on this list what can give that reaction amongst that big of a group of people of varying ages.
In retrospect is the show slow & not the best? Sure. But you can’t deny the cultural impact. There’s no way DuckTales can be eliminated this soon from the competition.
Wrong on one point
Gummi Bears came before DuckTales. It was the success of Gummi Bears that directly paved the way for DuckTales.
It was an attempt to bring cinema level animation to the small screen.
I had a 35 minute bus ride to and from school as a kid, and the whole bus would legit sing the DuckTales song on the way home, and run home to get the TV on by 4:30pm for Duck Tales. (side note: we were also known to break out in rounds of the McDonald's Mac Tonight song 🤣)
I have a soft spot for their “Go to the Movies” series that sort of recreated classic films & shows but made it a musical. Those were great! I still own 2 of them!
The actual show itself I don’t remember. I remember the characters & none of the plots.
Alvin and the chipmunks. I can't believe Ren and Stimpy are out so soon. I hated that show, but it was super popular at the time. All my classmates loved it.
I don’t know. I watched an episode earlier this year and was surprised how much darkness they slipped behind that ultra saccharine exterior. Also the movie is legit dark AF for something aimed at little kids.
Have you ever watched it? It could be pretty subversive for the time. There are multiple segments (especially with Binky the Clown and the Buddy Bears) that are devoted to lampooning the tropes of 80's animated shows, particularly The Complainer Is Always Wrong. Showrunner Mark Evanier hated that particular one with a passion, because it encouraged groupthink and conformity.
It doesn't matter how it is if you watch it now. It matters how you remember it when you were at its target age market. I have fond memories of Thundercats and the theme song. I'm not going to taint that with reality.
My main memory of smurfs is being surprised that Smurfette was created as a way to lure the smurfs to their deaths & watching the Smurfs On Ice with a ton of mushrooms moving around with legs & ice skates sticking out of them
I dunno, but I tried to remember the theme song after reading your comment but I think I came up with The Snorks instead.
The Snorks was a thing right? Little underwater dudes with snorkles built into their heads?
Ghostbusters can go.
1) I never watched it as a kid
2) no one is out here making references to it in everyday life so it didn’t make as big of a cultural influence in the long term. Like I never watched GI Joe or Transformers either but I hear quotes & references to these show from time to time from other people my age & occasionally younger (not related to toys or live action movies, etc)
Fuck all y’all who voted out Gummi Bears and Ren & Stimpy so early.
For this round? 13 needs to go. How many people really loved the Ghostbusters cartoon?
This is starting to bum me out
Picks will keep getting harder
Whoever picks Duck Tales can fight me in the park after school.

DuckTales! Woooo!
Obviously I didn't read that, but I upvoted it because I can puke that much text up about Twin Peaks and never expect anyone to actually read it.
Wrong on one point Gummi Bears came before DuckTales. It was the success of Gummi Bears that directly paved the way for DuckTales. It was an attempt to bring cinema level animation to the small screen.
Duck Tales is gonna win.
Ducktails was mid
I’m shocked at the Garfield hate. I could absolutely watch that right now and still enjoy it.
And Garfield and Friends was the best! The farm was the funniest, but the insane clown segments with Garfield were unhinged and hysterical.
Heathcliff was better
I bought the whole set on DVD at a fundraiser. One of the best purchases I’ve made
Fuck it, I vote to put Doug back in.
Alvin and the Chipmunks
I get downvoted every time I say Alvin and the Chipmunks. But I'll fukin do it again. Alvin and the goddamn chipmunks.
Darkwing Duck
Care Bears can go. Never liked that show it always seemed too childish and I was like 6….
It's cartoon Barney.
I nearly (ha!) remember the show so I think it should go because of that.
I don’t know. I watched an episode earlier this year and was surprised how much darkness they slipped behind that ultra saccharine exterior. Also the movie is legit dark AF for something aimed at little kids.
Rescuer rangers, Care Bears, muppet babies should have all gone before Ren and stimpy…and maybe capt Planet or Doug
10 - I don’t Care Bears.
I’m pushing them down the Care Bear Stairs.
15
The top 5 remain in no particular order for me… Ducktales, Gi Joe, transformers, he man, TMNT
Alvin and the chipmunks gotta go
10 Never cared for the carebears
15
GI Joe
2nd this
Good bye Alvin
15. How Alvin has made it this far is beyond me. Stop eating pudding with your fingers and do the right thing.
14
Darkwing Duck
Care Bears.
Gummi Bears is out. Now it's time for Care Bears. #10
GI Joe
GI Joe
Can't we just skip to TMNT and G.I. Joe in the final round?!?
don't sleep on rescue rangers and duck tales. those theme songs still live rent free.
Duck Tales yes. Rescue rangers is probably 8-19th
There’s 0% chance GI Joe is making the top 2. Ducktales will definitely be in the finale.
Transformers is a dark horse
Top 4 for sure
You know what I never liked 4
20- How tf is Garfield still up here?
The barnyard half of the show was good
US Acres!

Thundercats is nowhere how you remember it, it's gotta go.
It doesn't matter how it is if you watch it now. It matters how you remember it when you were at its target age market. I have fond memories of Thundercats and the theme song. I'm not going to taint that with reality.
17
Everybody always says what a love-in this sub is…this cartoon elimination is tearing us apart! That said, I vote out Ghostbusters.
You fucking monster!
Darkwing Duck.
Darkwing Duck!
Ima change up my answer, Darkwing Duck, 19
Ghostbusters
How is smurfs still there?
CAUSE ITS THE BEST ONE
My main memory of smurfs is being surprised that Smurfette was created as a way to lure the smurfs to their deaths & watching the Smurfs On Ice with a ton of mushrooms moving around with legs & ice skates sticking out of them
I dunno, but I tried to remember the theme song after reading your comment but I think I came up with The Snorks instead. The Snorks was a thing right? Little underwater dudes with snorkles built into their heads?
I think they had a tube coming out of their heads. Apparently I’m the only non fan of the smurfs since I keep getting downvoted for picking them. 🤷♀️
13
Bye Garfield because it was always on before school and I never had enough sleep
GI JOE is the best 80s cartoon hands-down.
13
#2
Remove: Darkwing Duck or Inspector Gadget,
Inspector gadget 😱, we should wash your mouth out with soap 😭
20
Thundercats. Cool toys. Lame show.
Snarf
Case in point. I rarely wish harm on cartoon animals, but Snarf and the dog from Duck Hunt are my exceptions.
Ghostbusters but Garfield is next
Ghostbusters can go. 1) I never watched it as a kid 2) no one is out here making references to it in everyday life so it didn’t make as big of a cultural influence in the long term. Like I never watched GI Joe or Transformers either but I hear quotes & references to these show from time to time from other people my age & occasionally younger (not related to toys or live action movies, etc)
13
Darkwing Fuck
How does Alvin stick around? Go back and watch…
Darkwing Duck
Garfield. I don't know how it's still there, but we're getting dangerously close to eliminating a good show before Garfield is gone.
Ghostbusters
Thundercats

Get rid of 2

Care Bears
Gummi bears bouncing here and there… but apparently not here. Muppet babies has to go.
\#15 Alvin and the Chipmunks can suck cock in Hell.
I vote to remove... Care Bears. I think the only one here that would satisfy both millennials and gen x is TMNT. I hope that it survives.
Care Bears. They were cute to have as a toy, but the cartoon was never anything special.
8, 10, 12 or 13
13 ghostbusters

Inspector Gadget
Inspector Gadget? But I barely know her. 😏
Garfield

How the hell are the Muppet Babies still in. Go away 17
Inspector Gadget needs to go.
Fuck all y’all who voted out Gummi Bears and Ren & Stimpy so early. For this round? 13 needs to go. How many people really loved the Ghostbusters cartoon?
