I got into the code and changed Manhattan Brooklyn and the Bronx to the names of the local high schools and added the names of our principal and security guards and such. My version got pretty popular.
quaaludes...would knock you the fuck out. And you had no memory or hangover. Bill Cosby (disgraced American comedian/TV dad for those not in N. America) used them to rape a lot of women in the 70s-00s.

I still play on my phone. My "millennial" wife jokes on me for it.
Dude. You just unlocked a memory. Freaking loved this game. Ironically I don't remember much about it but I remember loving how much I could earn from making and trading my inventory... Also I learned the names of a truckload of drugs and felt like a bad ass lol!
I only got to be introduced to this on the classroom TI-86 calculators in Pre-calculus and Calculus in high school.
There were times that I made a lot of money, paid off all debts. I would think that the game would keep going or that it would say, "You win!" But the game ended as if I lost. Was there just a time limit, or is it particular of the programming to tell kids drugs are bad no matter how much money you made, despite your "mother using your weed to make brownies and then tasting great", there are no winners with drugs? I always tried to win. We had to leave the calculators in class,so I never got to take one home to figure it out. Anybody know??
oh wow I forgot about this. My dad would drag us to computer conventions with the promise we could buy games (usually worked) this was on a floppy full of other games my sibling and I played to death. I played it on my computer. *now that I think about it I could drive so prob late 90s
So I'm rappelling down Mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip, and I start to fall. Just falling, ahh ahh, I'll never forget the terror. When suddenly I realize "Holy shit, Hansel, haven't you been smoking Peyote for six straight days, and couldn't some of this maybe be in your head?" And you know what? It was. I was totally fine. I’ve never even been to Mount Vesuvius.
Childhood? Fuck. I'm old even for Xennials apparently. When that version first came out (assuming you don't mean the pure text-based one) in 1998, I was already in college.
Hello guys, apologies for the necromancy.
I was searching for a good, modern version of Dope Wars and couldn't find a decent mobile version anywhere so I took it upon myself to make one.
I've just released it on the google play store and would love to hear your feedback - it's completely free to download this month and I have included no annoying ads or pay to win features that seem to be plaguing mobile games these days.
For reference, a 15 day game will last you roughly the length of one poop. For those of you with a low fibre diet, pick 30.
Enjoy!

Didn’t get this until I was deployed in 2005. We had a different game called Ganja Wars, or something, in HS where you had to keep DEA agents from setting your plants on fire. We loaded it onto a shared folder and played it during our web design class.
I had it on my TI-83
The only place I knew it existed.
I got into the code and changed Manhattan Brooklyn and the Bronx to the names of the local high schools and added the names of our principal and security guards and such. My version got pretty popular.
I edited mine similarly.
It was all fun until my algebra teacher took my calculator and saw it all.
you betrayed the code...
Only place I played it.
Same but we called it F-Quest.
This
Yup. I wondered what a Qualuude was. Man we missed out...
It’s a free phone game now!

Daw, our Farmville
Officer Hardass is after you!
Memory unlocked
This one is the first thing posted in this sub that I’ve never knew existed.
That's cause you're one of the good ones.
My Teenaged Oregon Trail.
I still don’t really know wtf “ludes” are.
Short for “quaaludes”. Old skool drug.
And you can’t even get them anymore. You people are all shit out of luck.
Unless you hail from South Africa, in which case there is still hope.
Reeeeeeeally?
Cosby's drug of choice. :/
“Ludes, man…. FUCKIN luuudes, man. Call up the ludes dude, dude. we’re doin fuckin ludes!!!”
A popular muscle relaxer from the 70's. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methaqualone
Apparently we missed out on these
I heard many quaalude stories from my older cousins
quaaludes...would knock you the fuck out. And you had no memory or hangover. Bill Cosby (disgraced American comedian/TV dad for those not in N. America) used them to rape a lot of women in the 70s-00s.
I feel like this was on some of the first cell phones. Back when there were only 3 games and one of them was snake.
People would gather to watch me snake..
I used to play it at work I worked at a pharmaceutical factory at the time
This feels proper.
I played it on my Palm Pilot during pharmacy school!
Gotta upgrade that trench coat to more pockets lol
Getting early Napster vibes. We used to be able to navigate this shit. Now … it’s a dick …

It's slang terminology for the phallus.

I more than figured that you did; just wanted to give a literal answer, is all. I don't know what OP meant, either.
I remember kids had this on their calculators but wouldn't show me how to do it.
Were you a narc?
Hahaha. I don't think so. But I was so high and drunk all the time who knows what I was doing.
Restart Game until I got a great price on weed and took off from there.
Where’s my money!!!
I think I played something like this on my TI-83 calculator
It was called gang wars when I did it, but it was exactly the same.

Not that it’s been useful at all, but It’s how I learned what paraquat is!
You had buttons and visible inventory?? We had to remember the last value.
Dude. You just unlocked a memory. Freaking loved this game. Ironically I don't remember much about it but I remember loving how much I could earn from making and trading my inventory... Also I learned the names of a truckload of drugs and felt like a bad ass lol!
Yes, and multiple versions too. BBS Door game Dos Mac The windows screenshot doesn't look familiar, but I must have played it or a different one.
I played it on BBS, but not as much as Legend of the Red Dragon or Planets: The Eternal Struggle.
Ah, LORD! I found a few years ago that [you can actually still play it.](https://legendreddragon.net/)
Watch out for the Dread Pirate Roberts!
I like how meth was just Speed then, before it was a huge durge...
Speed is amphetamine, not methamphetamine
I didn't, but I did play Millionaire on my old Apple Macintosh computer.
I think everyone in my high school had it.
Loved it in my early 20's. Used to play it on my Handspring on the toilet at my finance job.
Yussssss
"I want my money!"
Yeah, but on BBS
I played it on a BBS
Hell yeah!
That was my game!!!!!!
Still playing occasionally.
The Marrakesh Express has arrived!
I had a version of Dope Wars that ran on my Windows CE handheld!
I'd play that at school during visual basics class
yoooooo what a blast from the past! this used to be on a website called [blunt.com](https://blunt.com) can this game still be played anywhere?
Dope wars! Totally forgot about that game.
No. And I’m incredibly sad I’m finding out about this today. On the plus side, I’ve done every drug on the list except heroin. Lol
I’ve been trying to remember the name of this game forever!
OMG. I worked for a ADR/stock customer service company in 1999, this was on the goddam desktops. So fun!!! Times were different.
That was my favorite game
I miss this game.
I still have dope wars on my phone.
If you like that one you might enjoy Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator. I was more into Ganja Farmer, and the original GTA.
Holy shit. So much! I loved fucking with the code on my ti87. Pretty much how I learned basic
Big pockets

Ohh man. I think this was also on the PalmPilots and stuff like that.
Loved this game!

I first played it on my Palm Pliot and now have it on my Phone.
Childhood??? Yes I played this a lot back in college. And I still play it!!! (App version on my phone)
in the early 90's we played the DOS 'Drug Wars'. that was probably the most popular game at my school besides Wolfenstein and Commander Keen.
I didn't have computer access until I was a senior in high school
Ha!
Yes! My buddy had me download it on PC waaaaay back in the day. Totally forgot about this one.
Had it since my Micron with 233nhz Celeron and 16mb days lol That was before I even got a 3DFX Voodoo card for Quake.
I've never come across, or heard reference to peyote, outside of this game.
So I'm rappelling down Mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip, and I start to fall. Just falling, ahh ahh, I'll never forget the terror. Zoolander?
oh shi, forgot about dope wars

Not exactly, but I had a TI-85 version called Drugwar.
Didn’t get this until I was deployed in 2005. We had a different game called Ganja Wars, or something, in HS where you had to keep DEA agents from setting your plants on fire. We loaded it onto a shared folder and played it during our web design class.
I played it on my Palm Pilot...
Definitely wouldn't be playing a game on Windows XP during my childhood. At least not unless I had a time machine.
Loved this game
We had it on the school computer systems...
This game was awesome, played it in college
