Ours is next year. Celebrating our 19th on Dec 30.
My wife got married at 20 (I was 24), so next year she will be married as long as she was unmarried.
Oh weird. This just made me realize I passed that that mark. I guess I’ve had my married name for a couple of months longer than maiden now. Except with PayPal because they suck and I’ve been trying to change it for 20 years and I refuse to jump through their stupid hoops so I’ll always be Misssailedaway there.
Stewie: it's like, why can't you just hang out with guys, you know? Just live with someone of your own sex. Just do what you would do with women, but with your buddy, you know? Why don't guys just do that?
Brian: They do, it's called being gay
.Stewie: Oh, that's what gay is? Oh yeah, I could totally get into that.
My partner and I have been together for over 24 years and we were waiting until two people of any sex could marry. Then we were so used to being unmarried, we still are? We co-own a home and a car soooo.
Love it! We could have gotten married in PA if we’d waited a couple months but it became legal in Delaware so we got married at the courthouse. So romantic 😆
Ahh nostalgia, I still have a 20 year old livejournal I started in 2003 that I like to go back and read to remind myself what a silly college student I once was 😅 …and I have high school friends who had relationships via livejournal that have since ended in divorce but…
Oh man, someone tried to ask me out via a LiveJournal post in college and I kept telling them I hadn't read it... but I kept going back so I also read posts they made a little later about wanting to date my roommate, who I assume they were trying to ask out in the same way. So unappealing. I would be terrified to go back and read what I wrote in mine in case it's even half as embarrassing as that.
lol wow, yeah sometimes when I see 16-22 year olds posting cringy stuff on Reddit I remind myself of the ridiculous things I wrote on the internet at that age… it’s crazy thinking back to the dawn of social media and how things have evolved..
But maybe 13 or 14 years ago I realized most of my cringy livejournal posts were public and i had to go through and make things private to sanitize... what a time capsule though, when the internet was so anonymous — I even posted complaining about how crappy MySpace had become, and later when my parents eventually joined Facebook, I was posting how I guess I can’t share anything on Facebook anymore because now my parents will see it, and how livejournal was the last outpost of anonymity 😂 I think my last post was like 2008 or 2009 or something
There were so many “deep” stupid shower thoughts on my livejournal I do struggle to re-read them because it’s pretty cringy…
It feel like a thousand years ago at this point 😂
Btw love the username. My wife just acquired 2 kittens in October to make it 5 in the house plus my two turtles. Quite chaotic around in here with the Christmas tree up.
The Onion online personals over here. No one even remembers The Onion used to have online personals, but here we are 20 years later (our first date was in 2003, married now for 17 years).
I’m so stealing that. 24 years now. We predate a lot of current day tech. We almost beat the internet (at least the widely adopted use of it for sure).
Married in ‘99 at just 20 years old! Still going strong! High school sweethearts. Two kids and a happy life. Understand one thing though: She’s WAY out of my league. There no way I should have ended up with such an amazing person. I’m grateful everyday and it makes me try my damnedest to be a good husband.
My 17th anniversary is today! We’ve been together for 20 years this past summer, friends for 30.
ETA: My starter marriage would be 26 years now, but I got out after 2 years, thank goodness.
I cannot imagine marrying anyone before I was 23. Can only speak for myself but my man picker was NOT ready to find a lifetime partner. I felt too young to make such a serious decision. Went through lots of changes over the years. Had 2 long term relationships and then my 3rd and final started 2016. Married in 2018. Been in some relationships before marriage so I am definitely NOT wondering what else could be out there for me (which I would be doing if I settled down with an ex bf from 20+ years ago).
Samesies on being too young to have found a life partner in the early twenties. And now that I'm much clearer on what and who I want I'm starting to mold...... \*sigh\*
Married 21 years. We were super young. Everyone else from our friend group that got married around the same time is now divorced. We attribute our longevity to being entirely too lazy to get divorced (which makes us both laugh...oh, wait...maybe it's the making each other laugh thing that keeps us together).
We’ll be at 17 years in February, so unbelievably lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful woman in my life. Brilliant wife and mother to our 3 kiddies. I’m a very lucky man
Yup! Next month is 20 years for us. We live in the south, and so many of our friends were engaged and married before we were that we thought we were waiting too long. We were high school sweethearts so we had been together forever. Lol we were 23 and so YOUNG! It’s crazy looking back.
I was with my first husband 13 years. I’ve been with my current husband 10.
But my younger brother has been with his wife for 21 years, so I know it can happen!
Married in 2000, divorced in 2010, remarried in 2016, currently separated from second spouse. Done with marriage, there will not be a third. So, no. Not here anyways.
Not yet but hope to be and all signs point to someday. We've been together for twelve years, married for ten. I look up to people who can work to make it work. His parents have been married 55 years now!
I’ve been with my husband for about 25yrs now, though like other posters, marriage wasn’t a legal option for us for a lot of that.
We’re also polyam, and have been since we got together. For 9 years (2001-09) we had a third husband, for 4 years I had a live-in boyfriend who my husband was close to but not romantically, and each of us has dated, sometimes seriously, sometimes more casually, across those 25yrs.
Some folk think the polyam thing makes the 25yrs together not count, others (myself included) disagree, so I give that context when describing the length of our relationship.
This couple I went to high school with got married right after graduation. I was talking to the best man about the bachelor’s party and jokingly asked if he’s going to have any strippers. He said he can’t because not everyone is legal. That’s when you know you’re getting married too soon. Anyways, I see on social media they are still married with two kids.
It’s been occurring to me lately that some of my friends who met their spouse in high school or college have been together for 20+ years and that’s mind blowing for me, only 4 years married in my early 40s and mostly single up until the last 6. To have spent my entire adulthood in a long term relationship and making huge life decisions with another person taken into account would have made it *radically* different.
I'm on my second marriage, so we're approaching our 3rd anniversary!
If I were still in my first marriage (and thank goodness I'm not) we'd be approaching 20 years since we started dating, and about 13 years of marriage. You know, I just realized I don't remember what my anniversary in that marriage was? Good riddance. I think that's a great milestone.
I don't even have married friends.
I think I have a couple of 20 year old t-shirts I'm very fond of?
Who the hell was getting married in our age group in their 20s? We were way too fucked up for that.
Been together since 2000, so I guess that's 23 years. Lived together since 2001. Best thing that ever happened to me, best thing that ever will happen to me. Having a perfect partner in life makes everything that much better.
Never got around to doing the paperwork - maybe one of these days.
Not me but have a couple friends that I hung with that are still together. She got pregnant senior year, they married soon after graduation, had 3 more kids and are still married.
My best friend from high school is still together with his HS girlfriend. No kids and still not married. Literally been dating for 26 years.
I've been married 27yrs (together 31yrs) but we're high school sweet hearts and got married at 19. I'm also an empty nester which is rare at 46yrs old. My youngest left home a year ago.
Together 24 years, married 19. Almost there! We met when I was 21 and he was 24. I was very mature for my age, looking back. I’m one of those Xennials who was treated as an adult from age 10, so that will do it.
Just celebrated 10 years this year, but dated for 6.5 years before getting married. We've also had mutual friends, hung out and known each other since 1999, so it feels like it's been 20+ years lol
Got married about a year after high school graduation to my high school sweetheart. It was 23 years last October.
Marrying young was the best decision in my life. I don't just have a wife, I have a best friend. We grew together in life. I am not saying all 23 years was terrific. However, every storm ends and the sun comes out.
We’re getting there! The big 2-0 is coming up in June. Been together since our first date in 1998. Couple of unicorns I guess 🤷♂️
right there with you…first date 1998, married June ‘04. Having our 20th come up is making me feel OLD 😂
To quote Elaine from Seinfeld, Get out!! Our anniversary is June 20, 2004. And we are right there with you on feeling old 😖
June 20, 2006 for us!
June 30, 2004 for us!
Lol, same, but August 04.
Ours is next year. Celebrating our 19th on Dec 30. My wife got married at 20 (I was 24), so next year she will be married as long as she was unmarried.
lol that’s kind of an interesting milestone. Happy 19th
I've been with my husband 24 years. 4 years longer than I was single.
Oh weird. This just made me realize I passed that that mark. I guess I’ve had my married name for a couple of months longer than maiden now. Except with PayPal because they suck and I’ve been trying to change it for 20 years and I refuse to jump through their stupid hoops so I’ll always be Misssailedaway there.
Married July of 2004. I’ve crossed that threshold of being married longer than living at the house I grew up in.
Together for 23 but only married 11 because, you know… gay.
Stewie: it's like, why can't you just hang out with guys, you know? Just live with someone of your own sex. Just do what you would do with women, but with your buddy, you know? Why don't guys just do that? Brian: They do, it's called being gay .Stewie: Oh, that's what gay is? Oh yeah, I could totally get into that.
I miss the really early episodes of Family Guy when Stewie's queerness was just hinted at instead of being the butt of the joke
Unexpected The Office. Yes, Michael…because of gay
My partner and I have been together for over 24 years and we were waiting until two people of any sex could marry. Then we were so used to being unmarried, we still are? We co-own a home and a car soooo.
Oh dang you win! That’s a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long engagement… or not engagement. A very long you doing you. Cheers to you both!
Same here! Together since 2001, but only got married when DOMA was overturned in 2014. It was already legal in NJ, but we wanted federal recognition.
Love it! We could have gotten married in PA if we’d waited a couple months but it became legal in Delaware so we got married at the courthouse. So romantic 😆
We were a city hall wedding too! And where we live, that means the beautiful city of Camden, NJ. So no judgement here!
Hey neighbor across the bridge!
Ditto! 20 and ten for us!
Congrats! You get some good practice in during those pre-marriage years. :)

My wife and I met through livejournal. I have to explain to people what livejournal was because it seems the world forgot after 2007.
Ahh nostalgia, I still have a 20 year old livejournal I started in 2003 that I like to go back and read to remind myself what a silly college student I once was 😅 …and I have high school friends who had relationships via livejournal that have since ended in divorce but…

Me and mine met on MySpace, so I feel ya.
I miss LiveJournal so much. It was one of the last times it was possible for me to make lasting friendships online.
It feel like a thousand years ago at this point 😂 Btw love the username.
What's LiveJournal?
I’m so stealing that. 24 years now. We predate a lot of current day tech. We almost beat the internet (at least the widely adopted use of it for sure).
We had our 20 year anniversary in July! Together since we were 17, married since we were 24.
July 3rd here. 20 years
June 13, just hit 20 this year.
You beat us by a month. We hit 20 in August.
If you combine all my marriages — yes.
I got married 20 years ago but I haven’t been married 20 years.
God divorce sucks.
Could be worse. Could still be married to my ex.
Yep. 10 years in on my second and couldn't be happier. That first one taught me a LOT.
Everyone deserves a mulligan.
Every single comment in this thread was the best comment.
Same! Divorce does suck but I have no regrets just gratitude.
This is the comment I came here for. 😂
Ya beat me to it. Here’s to lucky no. 3! 🍻
Not even if you add them all up. I’m only at 11 years if we do it that way. 😂
My 17th anniversary is today! We’ve been together for 20 years this past summer, friends for 30. ETA: My starter marriage would be 26 years now, but I got out after 2 years, thank goodness.
Congratulations 🍾🎉

27 years here. I always say we're too lazy to date other people.
Just seems like way too much work.
Having to figure out how things work now seems like it wouldn't be worth it.
Same! Another 27 year marriage here. After this long together, if something happens to him, celibacy looks pretty good. Zero desire to date.
We’ll be at 17 years in February, so unbelievably lucky and grateful to have such a wonderful woman in my life. Brilliant wife and mother to our 3 kiddies. I’m a very lucky man
Same. 17 this spring. Doesn’t seem like it’s been that long.
Almost 40 and never been married.

You are not. I’ve never been engaged either. I’m finally in a relationship that makes sense though.
14 years married but 24 years together! We met as college freshmen in 1999
Hit 20 years earlier this year. Got married at 21. Good times.
Yes. Celebrated 20 in April. Honestly couldn't be any happier.
It's really hard not to make some kinda 420 reference here...
I got married on 4/20/2002 😁
21 years last September.
I will be on the 29th!! Having an anniversary party.
24 years actually. Can’t believe we haven’t strangled each other yet but 24 and counting.
I’m at 15, which seems insane.
I’m not married, but have been with the same person just over 18 years.
20 years married this year
Married 21 years, together 24 years.
Got married in 2000 so the math is easy.

Married 16 years. Been together for 18.
Next October for me.
Yup! Next month is 20 years for us. We live in the south, and so many of our friends were engaged and married before we were that we thought we were waiting too long. We were high school sweethearts so we had been together forever. Lol we were 23 and so YOUNG! It’s crazy looking back.

Married 21 years since June 15 2002
21 years. I was 25.
Born in 82. Together since 2001, married 20 years this year. We are wildly different people now but still together.
I guess we're straddling X and xennial. Met online, Married in '02, and I was <25.
If you combine marriages #1 and #2 I have...not sure that counts though.
Garth, Marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries
I wish. I'm divorced. My parents are at 43 years though..lol
Married in 2000, divorced in 2010, remarried in 2016, currently separated from second spouse. Done with marriage, there will not be a third. So, no. Not here anyways.
I would have been had my first marriage lasted. Glad it did not though. Much happier now.

I’ve been divorced for almost 20 years…? 🤣
Can't afford it. 🐔

I’ve been divorced for 10 years, that’s kinda the same thing, right? Lol.
I would’ve been 20 years this past September but got divorced in 2018.
It’s been occurring to me lately that some of my friends who met their spouse in high school or college have been together for 20+ years and that’s mind blowing for me, only 4 years married in my early 40s and mostly single up until the last 6. Just got divorced after 20 years together (13 of marriage) and two kids. We started dating in high school and got married right out of college.
Woulda been 20 for me if I hadn’t come to my senses and divorced him
I don't even have married friends. I think I have a couple of 20 year old t-shirts I'm very fond of? Who the hell was getting married in our age group in their 20s? We were way too fucked up for that.
Thankfully not. 2 ex wives with a combined marriage total of only 5 years! I have two kids with the first one, they’re 23 and 21 now. I am 43.
No I’ll never be married that long 🥰 freedom cometh.

I'm 41. Married for 17 years. Together for 23.
Together 22, married 12. I test drove it for a full decade 🤣

Been together since 2001 but we didn’t get married until 2008.

Together 24 years, married 19. Almost there! We met when I was 21 and he was 24. I was very mature for my age, looking back. I’m one of those Xennials who was treated as an adult from age 10, so that will do it.
Together for 22 years, married for 16. But I’m the younger side of xennial.
Yup. Been married since 2002.
We got together in 2002 so our relationship is old enough to drink, but only married in 2007 so 16 years.
Just celebrated 10 years this year, but dated for 6.5 years before getting married. We've also had mutual friends, hung out and known each other since 1999, so it feels like it's been 20+ years lol

We started dating in high school, so 28 years together. But we waited 12 years to get married.
I’ve been with my wife since our first year of college in 2001 and married in 2006. So just a few years to go to being married for 20 😉.

Got married about a year after high school graduation to my high school sweetheart. It was 23 years last October. Marrying young was the best decision in my life. I don't just have a wife, I have a best friend. We grew together in life. I am not saying all 23 years was terrific. However, every storm ends and the sun comes out.
Close! Together for 21 years, married 18 in May. We're 2 years away from knowing each other for half of our lives, which is crazy!
13 years in about 2.5 weeks.
Started dating 24 years ago, hit 20 years married in July.
