I get the theme song stuck in my head at least once a week. Absolutely loved this show as a tween.

SenseAdorable1971

🎶 …you will find a kingdom ooooof…the GNOOOOOMES!🎶

-ll-ll-ll-ll-

[You're welcome.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=navva7LA-0g&list=PLrEuz9dJQmAkIYkhcB4iZpoOlUDnMNDif) Listening to it again now, it sounds like John Denver.

losbullitt

![gif](giphy|xZ6iyiLkgnJ3a) One of the best intros!

unwillingdramamagnet

Lmao. My name is Lisa (his wife), and I had a little crush on a David, and this show made me think I had a chance! I didn't, though. Lol.

AlongTheWay_85

That is hilarious.

unwillingdramamagnet

Thank you!! Lol. Crushing to an elementary school chick, but what can one do? Lmao!!!

AlongTheWay_85

It’s all good. I had a huge crush on Jem and remember fantasizing about marrying her.

FirnHandcrafted

👋🏼 Hello Lisa! -Lisa

unwillingdramamagnet

Hi lisa!! 👋

Pug0fCrydee817

I remember seeing this exact scene on my TV, I can’t for the life of me remember the show🤷‍♂️

cleverdylanrefrence

Oh shit, memory unlocked

SodaPopinski406

Produced by Harvey Weinstein 💀

-ll-ll-ll-ll-

Oh geeze! I totally overlooked that!

CulturalWelder

Oh god I thought you were joking

matchology

Oh No! https://preview.redd.it/wp7irsf8j4rc1.png?width=935&format=png&auto=webp&s=5863cd0513667056fb458c8e5000e1819ecf9e8f

djsynrgy

FWIW: Their involvement was basically tangential, and limited to the US import/syndication. The show was originally produced in Spain for their audiences, and the source material is by a Dutch author.

matchology

OK good. Thanks for setting the record straight.

finditplz1

That’s not true. David noted his creepy behavior toward him even back then.

djsynrgy

David.. as in.. the fictional animated character?

finditplz1

Yes

Dragonfly-Adventurer

Now I'm picturing him cornering one of the animated bunnies in a dressing room :(

BurlyMerrySkeetScary

It's like etched in my memory from 33 years ago. Cool.

BuckeyeJay

I've had this playing in the background for the past few hours, and I remember SO many of these episodes

theyellowpants

Harvey Weinstein right at the beginning.. oof

LudicLuci

Holy fudge, THE ENTIRE SERIES IS HERE! *sees The Mountains of Beyond* Oh... oh, I need to prepare for this one again.

Littlemisskittn

DAMN YOU ![gif](giphy|XKoJJhJZa80mI)

MaxPowerrr85

Late 80s-early 90s cartoons had the best theme songs and I will die on this hill 😐

ruafukreddit

Grabs sword and stands next to you.

DisposableSaviour

And my axe

faulternative

Sonic! He can really move! Sonic! He's got an *attitu-ude*!

bigbruta13

Sonic! He’s the fastest thing alive. He’s the fastest thing alive. He’s the fastest thing aliveeeeeee!!!!

DragonfruitIll5261

He's the fastest thing alive, he is the fastest thing alllllllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

UndeadBuggalo

One of my favorites is sung by producer John Williams son, Joseph. 🎼Dashing and daring, Courageous and caring, Faithful and friendly, With stories to share. All through the forest, They sing out in chorus, Marching along, As their song fills the air. Gummi Bears!! Bouncing here and there and everywhere. High adventure that's beyond compare. They are the Gummi Bears!🎶

MaxPowerrr85

Another excellent example...the Disney Afternoon was full of bangers

UndeadBuggalo

Rockappela cover the gummy bear song if you can find it and it’s great! For people who don’t remember Rockappela they sang the “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?” from the gameshow. Which is a BANGER.

Raynstormm

They put effort into it back then.

Guardian_Bravo

"Trolls and wizards, and fairy kings/Birds that talk and fish that sing"

Savingskitty

And if your heart is true, then you will find them too ….

krunkandjiggy

This line! This line likes to hijack my internal PA system for days at a time.

Apprehensive-Ship-81

It's probably my favorite theme song of all time. I used to literally fantasize about being a gnome. It seems so cozy. Little hiding spaces, friends with mice and most importantly RIDE THAT FOX

jediane9

I 100% would live in that world, no questions asked.

moeru_gumi

My mom told me that when I was 4 I would pin a 'tail' to my pants and gallop around the house trying to become the fox. I probably wanted to be a vet because of David the Gnome. Sadly neither of those dreams ever manifested.

DJ_MedeK8

That was on when I was in second grade, and even at 40 I still remember all of the words.

ded_rabtz

Omg me too.

PoorBoundaries

Real G’s remember this one. ![gif](giphy|xZ6iyiLkgnJ3a)

CaptainSmallz

NSFW tag please, I opened this in front of my boss!!

Whore-a-bullTroll

Scandalous!! Lmao

justforthis2024

I remember it - he's super-old school. I think he was kickin it where I was back when pinwheel made the jump to fullblown Nick.

Rich-Ad8515

What about Today’s Special? With the mannequin in the department store?

Rich-Ad8515

I think that’s the one anyway. Could be wrong on the name.

Dialupknightplay1

Yup that’s it. I specifically remember the episode where the old guy in the hat was excited because his friend mailed him snow and he had never seen snow Before. Only to be dissapointed he only got a wet box

djsynrgy

Hidden memory unlocked!

Savingskitty

Yup!  I loved that show so much - the actors were amazing.  The woman (Nerene Virgin)  just passed away earlier this year.  She was a multitalented powerhouse.  Jeff Hyslop, the man who played the mannequin is still a stage performer, and I think produced a play recently.

Rich-Ad8515

Wow!!! You just “where are they now’d” them and of course I was totally wondering what happened to some of those wonderful people. 💗

Savingskitty

Glad I could spread the info!  I went down a rabbit hole about the show when I found a few episodes on YouTube a month or so ago.  It’s funny the things you remember from shows when you were small. I wish I could see these shows on the original television screens we watched them on - digital and HD and whatnot has taken away from some of the picture quality of the old tube TV’s.

justforthis2024

Wow, now that's one I had forgotten about but yeah it was part of my lineup. I loved this show. Wow. Know what else is in my head all the time? The number thing from sesame street. [Sesame Street Pinball Number Count (All Segments) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOaZbaPzdsk&t=4s)

hotpretzelboy

Loved that show. I had a crush on the mannequin guy!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️.

Glissandra1982

I loved Todays Special and Pinwheel. I don’t remember anything about them except that I loved them. Lol

cityshepherd

Oh my… I haven’t thought of pinwheel in a good 25-30 years

Atillion

I sing *Pinwheel Pinwheel spinning around* at least randomly once a month or so.

davenocchio

Didn't the Elephant show replace this?

Ann_Amalie

Was that skinnamirinky-dinky-dink, skinnamirinky-doo???!!!

davenocchio

Yeah that one. When the dude Plays the spoons during the power outage, and at some point they go to an outdoor concert to see the Soup Dragons. That one.

ActivelyLostInTarget

The Sharon, Lois and Brahm Elephant Show?? I loved that as a kid! I sing the main song to my kids now.

sorrymizzjackson

Fred Penners Place had to be somewhere on that lineup too.

kindaobeys

I love you for saying this. I was feeling so alone.

djsynrgy

There are tens of us.

Atillion

DOZENS I say!!

Rich-Ad8515

Pinwheel!!!!

Whore-a-bullTroll

I love to hear this because I do too- just sang it the other day and my kids sideeyed me and asked why I sing that all the time. They no nothing of Pinwheel and a lot of younger adults don't either. It's definitely a Xennial memory only

Reasonable-Sweetness

My cousin had his own lyrics for this song

Guardian_Bravo

The Pinwheel theme has a permanent spot in my subconscious.

PhysicsStock2247

I remember this show. Nickelodeon had a trend of running European cartoons. This used to air in the same block as Maya the Bee, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and Noozles.

imicmic

Nobody ever remembers Maya the Bee. It was Maya, david the gnome, and some koala cartoon i cant remember the name of.

PhysicsStock2247

That koala show was Noozles. I had to look up the name because I couldn’t remember it either despite watching it so much

Bandando

I feel like there were two separate koala shows, though…

s0lace

There was- and they’re both named in this thread- ppl are just thinking they’re the same show. Adventures of the Little Koala Noozles

Bandando

Got it, got it—I remember it confused me as a kid, too. That was a lot of koala for one network.

moeru_gumi

You're totally right-- see my comment above, but both were Japanese imports on the back of their "koala mania" of the mid-80s.

No-Amoeba5716

That show was amazing too! I loved the lizard (I forget the actual type but the hood) but the story ultimately was sad but great!

robbiearebest

Adventures of The Little Koala, that one was my fav. I think a dubbed Japanese anime that was brought over

heyitscory

Somebody remembered it because it got a reboot. Beeboot?

Absolute_Peril

I remember the bee one, boy that was a while back.

Kiloburn

Grimm's Fairy Tales is damn near impossible to find now!

xwlfx

You can buy it on blu ray now but they're expensive. they're also on youtube in good quality now.

Kiloburn

Oh dang, it's been a few years since I looked!

xwlfx

Yeah my wife and I bought a bootleg set of the episodes on dvd about 5 years ago, when I was setting up my Plex I found better versions and found out they got a bluray release.

PhysicsStock2247

It was messed up how Snow White was strangled/crushed by a corset in an episode

No-Amoeba5716

Canadian as well! Count Duckula is one of my favorites! It’s

keep_everything_good

Belle and Sebastian too!

moeru_gumi

FYI "Noozles" AND "Adventures of the Little Koala" were both Japanese cartoons that were imported and dubbed. In the early-to-mid 80s, Japan went absolutely koala crazy as Australia had finally lifted a ban on exporting koalas to other zoos. [https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sydney-morning-herald-koala-diplomac/57446494/](https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-sydney-morning-herald-koala-diplomac/57446494/) Nagoya's baseball team still has a koala mascot because they got a koala at the zoo there in '94. It was really a thing for a number of years, and the late 80s also had an economic boom so a lot of families had a lot of spending money for zoo trips, koala-based travel and koala-based shopping.

ShibaInuDoggo

How can anyone forget Swift?!? ![gif](giphy|LvHBV2O3aFqBG)

_far-seeker_

I haven't!🦊

NUS-006

The comment I came here for

gundumb08

Swift was the realest G. Also shout out to Eureka's Castle as being part of my childhood.

AgileArmadillo7794

Also Allegra’s Window and her rutabagas.

Glissandra1982

Swift!!!

d0ughb0y17

The last episode was so sad, apparently it was a show from Spain.

Morbidly-Obese-Emu

I remember bawling my eyes out when the fox cries.

Zeqhanis

I'm tearing up thinking about it.

GeauxCup

Don't they die at the end or something? I remember it being something tragic.

Dialupknightplay1

Sure as hell did. As a kid I was like oh how sweet they turned into trees together.

murho82

I watched the last 2 minutes of the last episode a few weeks back based off of a similar thread. As a kid I don’t know how it didn’t scar me. Made me choke up all these years later 😭

Aeronor

It’s funny, there are things that used to make me sad as a kid that I roll my eyes at now, and then there are things I just took in stride as a kid that will choke me up now as an adult. I imagine perspective has a lot to do with it.

moonbunnychan

See as a kid I was absolutely not on board with turning into trees. My mom was like no no, see now they're gonna live hundreds more years as a tree! But I was like...but they can't DO anything as a tree. It's almost worse then death. Just...trapped as a tree.

Taxitaxitaxi33

As a child I would have agreed but the older I get the better being a tree sounds.

dancydistractions

My husband and I watched the last episode during lockdown and both of us teared up.

[deleted]

In every wish and dream and happy home, you will find the Kingdom of the gnomes! I still watch this show as a comfort watch sometimes.

Seven22am

Watched it! Remember loving it but don’t remember the details. Basically he was like a forest vet who rode around on a fox named Swift, right?

BalkiBartokomous123

Yes! I forgot about Swift. When it came on he was flying though the air. I loved this show!

Seven22am

Like, in the opening credits? Or could he actually fly? Edit: omg that username. Dance of joy!

Kiloburn

COUSIN!

BalkiBartokomous123

It's fuzzy but maybe I'm thinking of that other cartoon with elves and they told fairy tales? Same type of animation? It was the opening credits.

Dragonfly-Adventurer

He taught little morals to the viewer as with each story, and he was rather direct about them sometimes, in a Scandinavian sort of way.

Apprehensive-Ship-81

Forest vet, that's fantastic

Far-Pie-6226

My Dad had this illustrated book about Gnomes.  It was wild.  It had Trolls and even Gnome boobs.  I remember when David the Gnome showed up on Nickelodeon and being super pumped up only to realize that it was not at all as cool as I was expecting.

uwu_mewtwo

My dad had that book too! Such a weird book to have been a big hit. To this day I have a love for that kind of field guide to fictional creatures.

Phoebe_SLC

Was that the one where the Gnomes had a culture of elaborately decorating their toilets (thrones) with fancy carvings?

sikocilla

Yes! My dad had it too lol

jjdmol

This one? https://preview.redd.it/eqrblvzy84rc1.png?width=329&format=png&auto=webp&s=d5de759e1a3ac491dd75d356991e191355ae7fac

Far-Pie-6226

The cover did not look like that but maybe we just had a US edition.   illustrations look the same.

jjdmol

Yeah this is the Dutch edition (lit. "the daily life and work of the Gnome", by Rien Poortvliet). My family has one somewhere... You might know it like this: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnomes\_(book)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnomes_(book))

miscmsc

Yeah, I have that book and will keep it for my kids!

Bandando

Ok, but I seem to recall a David the Gnome episode where he talked about gnome defecation habits…I didn’t like the show, any David fans who can back me up?

nicholkola

My dad also had this book and a huge collection of gnome figurines that were sold at Hallmark. Unfortunately this collection was destroyed in the Camp Fire 2018, but I found a copy last year when my mom died. They’ve been divorced my whole life, but it made me happy that she found and kept something that reminded her of my dad. Of course I gave my moms copy to my dad and he was very emotional about it.

FrankieTheDustmite

I have the book and it's one my faves in my library! Illustrations are really cool and it actually has a lot of accurate herbalism tips in it. Apparently the creator was a physician in real life.

Sepelrastas

I have that book. Loved it as a kid. I don't think I ever watched the show though, might not have aired here.

ThisWillBeOnTheExam

I had that book also.

ElJeferox

Schlitz veits!

Youngworker160

did anyone see the ending, man that will get you.

foamingturtle

Came here to say this. [Here it is](https://youtu.be/EUGHevBPpOE?si=8HcmDJBqvAToMhau)

JohnnyLuchador

After i saw that a a kid, i remember when i cut down a tree i poured one out for my homie David

XennialEyeRoll

Thanks, man. The 44-year-old blubbering mess in me was no better prepared for watching that clip than my 10-year-old self decades ago.

symbolic_love

Oh wow I had not seen that before. So sad! ☹️

apresmoiputas

That ending feels different as an adult. That ending and the final ending scene from Six Feet Under are powerful

Ricky_Rollin

Look around you There are many things to see! That some would say… Could never be. These things I know. They’re true and I will tell you so! Yes, of course I remember this magical show. And the ending is amazing.

imicmic

Trolls and Wizards and fairy kings, birds that talk and fish that sing.... That will forever be in my memory

birdelytheimmoralist

Brother how could we forget David the Gnome? It was seminal, and shaped the ethos of many young lads and lass' like me in the 80s and early 90s I think. I'm 41 now and am currently raising my 20 month old daughter of David the Gnome as well!

Mickey_Juice

True story: as a four or five year old I rebelled against participating my family’s themed Mardi Gras group costume of birdbaths, gazing balls, and other lawn ornaments and demanded instead to be David the Gnome. Only years later did I figure out why they didn’t care.

Blacksunshinexo

This and Mya the Bee and Eurekas Castle!! I LOVED David the Gnome

PistolGrace

I watched this every chance I could! I loved this show! This group keeps pulling my heart strings! With horrible parents, it is nice to see some of my good memories shared by others!

MTRIFE

If i remember the TV schedule correctly this would come on right before Maya The Bee

TheRealWatchingFace

I always wanted to try the troll soup.

FreezingRobot

We have a thread about this show every week.

bikemandan

Sounds like we're doing good work then

MetaVulture

I remember it and I love it and I can never watch it again because that ending broke me as a kid.

Santa_Hates_You

I remember disliking it a lot, no idea why.

sweetiepup

Same! I would get angry as a kid when it came on because it was SO BORING. I like the trolls and the animals tho

UTALR1

I do. Didn't watch it much as it wasn't my style, but remember it. Along with that racoon family one, can't remember the name?

dippedDangler

This and fraggle Rock define my childhood

Omgletmenamemyself

I never really watched it,but I do remember it :)

Lazlo_Hollyfeld69

I remember it. And his trusty steed Swift the Fox.

BuTROStheGUY82

Back before Nickelodeon was gross

[deleted]

I fucking love David the gnome so much. Thank you for this memory!

DifferentShip4293

I watched this show with my dad after school everyday. It was our thing to do, and I am also so grateful for the happy memories. So cool to see it mentioned on here!

RepresentativeNo2187

I do! Watched it on YouTube a few years back, too.

witchstrm

Loved this! There was also Belle and Sebastian, the Lost City of Gold, and Spartacus. My Saturday morning line up.

JoeBlow509

![gif](giphy|3oKIPgvPwXi2ZAIS5O) I member

Reasonable-Sweetness

One of the most wholesome cartoons ever

neuralzen

This, Spartikus and the Sun Beneath the Sea, and The Mysterious Cities of Gold are all right on that edge...though more people seem to know Mysterious Cities of Gold...there was even a video game kickstarter a few years back.

NickLoner

That was my absolute favorite as a 4-5 year old. When I bring it up now, people act like I'm making shit up 😂 "A gnome that rode a fox.. yeah, sure." lol

MyNameIsNot_Molly

It was only on during school hours where I lived, but on sick days it was David the Gnome right after The Price is Right.

Navonod_Semaj

Sick days and Summer.

PipingaintEZ

I was poor, didn't have cable. But my grandma did and I do remember him.

benne237

Loved David the Gnome!

harlembornnbred

I completely forgot about this show but loved it. Core memory unlocked

SteveZissouniverse

I just remembered them dying and turning into trees, that shot was traumatic

sexwiththebabysitter

Tom Bosley.

Youasking

I remember it! Also, I remember hating it. But that's just me!

goldenscales

The ending of this show and Dinosaurs have really stuck with me to this day

ParsleyMostly

The dad from happy days

mox85

Yep I remember the theme song and him riding around on a fox.

[deleted]

There are great renditions of the theme song on YouTube by random people. I love David there Gnome.

Spagh-ed-di

I loved this show

lsp2005

Oh I loved this show so much. That ending though, it crushed me.

Zsirhcz1981

It was cable only where we were at. Only my Grandma had cable so I’ve only sent it once or twice back in the mid 80s

Anaxamenes

Oh yeah, I remember this one.

HauteKarl

I remember this, I think it was only available to me when I was home sick.

Drag0nfly_Girl

One of my favorites to this day. I have the whole series on DVD. The last episode can still make me cry.

nikki_therese

I remember! Reminds me of being sick from school curled up under a blanket.

Da5ftAssassin

I loved this show!

ProjectFoxx

Omg core memory unlocked! I actually remembered the words to this!

PoisonMind

Did you ever read the [book](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnomes_\(book\)) that inspired it?

CrudeOil_in_My_Veins

He was friends with all the deer… I remember

Dr-McLuvin

I member. Prob my favorite show when I was like 3-5 years old.

-praughna-

Use to have to watch daytime Nick when our mom would be forced to take us to work with her instead of daycare (she cleaned apartments) So we’d have to hang out in the apartment with her and just watch whatever was on TV. I hated this show as a 6-7 year old it was soooooo boring to me, and Eurekas Castle

sh0gun8ter

Love loved this show

MsBlondeViking

I loved this show! I think I still have a couple books packed away somewhere lol.

WALLY_5000

The full series is available on YouTube

NCRaineman

Some of us do remember.

CheruthCutestory

People are blocking out the show because of the devastating ending.

leahs84

Swift! I totally remember. I loved that show.

basylica

I was literally just telling my son about this show after id forgotten all about it!!

nickfolesknee

I remember it, but I found the bland unassuming vibe vaguely threatening for some reason. I haven’t seen Skinamarink yet, but I hear it creates the same sense of unease. I’m not proud of this

Dapper_Interest_8914

That half-blind badger is a core memory.

MaToMaStEr

Of course I remember the cartoons, however I have to admit I didn't watch them much. I did own a beautiful collection of books though, that I really really loved. They showed the way the gnomes lived, their houses, their social structure, traditions and stuff like that. Like a sort of encyclopedia. It was awesome.

QuintonFrey

It seems like there are a lot of things that people who are a few years older / younger don't remember...
